AP question

We are planning a trip to POP at the end of May. We are also planning to go over Thanksgiving.

We are going to buy AP passes (at some point). If an AP code comes out for our May trip, do I have to have the pass at the time of my reservation?

I can't decide if I need to make a package reservation or a room-only reservation. We really like the dining plan, but if an AP code comes out, then we'll need only a room-only reservation.

Can you change from a package to a room-only without making a totally new reservation?

Also, if a code doesn't come out for May, can I add the AP pass at the end of my stay?

1. I just got off the phone with WDW and changed my room only reserv. to reflect the AP discount. We do NOT yet have the AP. I specifically clarified with the CM that you only have to have the AP in hand when you check in to receive the discount.

2. I think that you would have to cancel the package and change to a room only reservation. Once before I had a room only reservation and a package discount came out. I had to cancel my room only ressie first and then book the package. BUT be sure to first check if there are any rooms available for the discount before you cancel the first reservation !

This is right... Although I have checked in without an AP and had to bring the AP back and show the front desk it later.
