As a soon to be first timer, i have checked an online shop with lots of the merchandise available in WDW. I am a sucker for souvenirs, and see myself spending big buck!
However, my DD would like to get souvenirs for friends, and her list gets longer. What would be a good small(and cheap) souvenirs for kids.
also, can someone tell me how much the standard mickey ears and engraving costs?

I would go with packs of candy or pencils that you can split up.

I agree. You may even be able to make a cheap grab bag. For example they sell bags of choc. coins with mickey on them, bunches of suckers with mickey heads , etc. The souvenirs are definetly not cheap. When we were there in Sept. and t-shirt for my 18 mos DS were about $18.

If you'll have a car you could check out the Character outlet stores. That is usually our favorite place to shop. However we haven't been able to go the last few trips because we didn't have a car. I think the one we always went to closed. There is one in an outlet mall close to WDW. I don't have the name or address handy right now. I'll get it and check here later. If someone hasn't already posted it for you by then I'll post it for you.:goodvibes

You can definately get some good deals on Disney Gift items offsite. They will still say Disney, still come from Florida but will be a whole lot cheaper!!;)

They have those "pressed coin" collection machines and for 51 cents or a $1.25 you can have a great coin that turns into a good magnet. You can get a bag of round magnets with sticky material on one side to put on the coin and presto you have a great, from Disney souvenir! :thumbsup2

Ohh that magnent penny is a GREAT idea!!!

The Charachter Premire is also a great place as a PP said. We were just there NYE, and one of the princess babies my daughter bought in the park, for $14. They had them there for $5, boy was she peeved. But I got a few for her for her bday.
It is in the Premire Outlet mall exit either 35 or 36. The one right before the Disney Exit. Which I believe is 37
Everything still says from WDW on it. Im currently wearing my $12.00 shirt, that had a WDW price tag of $38!

You could find some pens and pencils at the dollar store. Trading pins are nice. Mickey Mouse rice krispy treats are great. Key chains. Candy. The itailian charms are nice. You will find something trust me! LOL

Have you thought about going to Walmart of the like, buying cheap plain t- shirts, and iron on transfer paper and going to the Creative DISign threads and making the friends t-shirts? My DD did this for her best friends last year and they all loved them. Think we have about $4 invested in them!
Some of the DISigners will even personalize the items for you.

Go to Innoventions in Epcot, try the Fantastic Plastics robot exibit and make a free robot. DH and I made one and gave them to our niece and nephew, they loved them (although they are younger, 4 and 5).

Yes! I think that is the one I was talking about that is still there. Like I said earlier I think the one I usually shopped at is gone. This one would have the same stuff though. We always come out with sacks full of stuff. Unbelievable bargains!:goodvibes

Packs of pens or those little key chain flash lights. I got those last year, they come in a pack of 4, and they were the biggest hit out of everything that I got.

Also, I found that even the airport had souvenirs that were cheaper than buying in disney. They had great keychains and magnets.

Thanks for all the replise. I really like the 4 pack of Flashlights idea. DD has 4 friends she really wants to get something for (so far, lol) ANyways, how far is Target/Walmart from WDW. We are staying in All stars with no car, so wondered how long of taxi drive to get there? Are they both close to each other?

I thought all the idea's were great but what we loved bringing home as a cheap souvenier was the mickey mouse candy bars... you can find them anywhere in any of the shops, I think they cost 1.00 or 1.25 they have different flavors as well. If you go into Goofy's candy shop, they have a bunch of candy to choose from that has different disney things on it.
Also another fun idea is the passports in Epcot... if your child doesnt color them in at the park, you can make copies for the kids and they can color them together..

We usually get disney dollars for the kids before hand so that we can set a limit on how much we spend. The kids seem to love the pressed pennies, the trading pins, the writing pins, stickers, and my eleven year old is great at finding the red tags at every store we hit.

It's funny actually because I had sort of forgotten about this but our favourite find at DW was the Mickey antenna topper! They are available in a number of different stores & come in all kinds of different types. There were sports themes, holiday themes, character themes, etc & they cost about $4.00. We bought the "Soccer Mickey" which is really just a soccer ball with ears but my kids love it!

The other day we went through the car wash & I forgot to take "Mickey" off the antenna & of course, it came off through the car wash. :sad2: The kids were very upset & so I waited until the brushes stopped, prayed another car would not come through anytime soon & yup, you guessed it....ran into the car wash to rescue "Mickey"!! :scared: Needless to say, the kids were pleased & I was wet but it was worth it!! :yay:

For sure, we will be buying a number of different antenna Mickeys the next time we go so that we can change them up over the years! :thumbsup2

I can't laugh at you but with you...I have done the same thing (MORE THAN ONCE) . You would think I would learn my lesson!

When we went last, I had been begging my DH to let me put a topper on our van, but I was worried about it getting stolen. We found a three circle mickey head car decal and I was so excited when DH said to get it. It was only $5!
Anyway, for friends, there are a ton of things you can get, just keep your eyes open! For example, in the food court at POFQ (& I'm sure others) they had those hard straws with a Mickey Head shape at the top for $1! They make a great gift! I meant to go in before we left and buy them for DD's class, but I forgot. lol.
ETA: It probably wouldn't be worth it to take a taxi to a store JUST for those gifts, but if you go early in the vaca and get more, like pop-tarts and snacks and water, other souvies, etc, then it may be worth it...

Do you remember where you found the mickey head? I would love to have one. I do have a lime green mickey head on my attenta and I put an eeyore one on dh's Tahoe because I call him Eeyore. He is a good sport about it. He does say he doesn't think Eeyore needs to go hunting and fishing but as far as I know he leaves Eeyore on. I wonder if when he gets around the corner he takes Eeyore off? LOL

Isn't that a bad pic? I can't believe I'm posting it on the net! lol. But she looks cute. :cutie:

ETA: Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack the thread. So, here's another suggestion. Um, Markers! Especially if you are just buying for a few friends. They have markers in shops (like the hotel gift shops) with the characters on them. These can be used at school, so they will remember who gave them to them each time they use them!
