Whoo-hoo!!! I'm so in this!!
Could I please have a spot in the cat group and a spot in the dog group? We have 2 cats and 3 dogs, so I have to be an equal opportunity scrapper! ;)
On the dog one, I'll do 2 journal boxes and 2 tags, and on the cat one, I'll do a topper and 2 tags.
I am a copy cat, too, by the way (but without the cool name tie-in ;) ) I lifted KAMommy's directions, too! :thumbsup2
How many people are in each group? I may try to work on this this weekend! Thanks again for hosting!!

another thought -- i'm keeping on an eye on the pets, pets and more pets group to see what others have. i guess i'm gun-shy for not wanting 9 other 'pets' that don't apply to me. scrappable pictures for me would include hamsters and horses
kat -- i looked for a cute jumping piggie smile but no, not one!
KatDisney
01-02-2007, 09:39 PM
Another thought on the Pets pets group, It can be dogs and cats together which is what I am thinking to do since I have one of each and have alot of them together. I also can use horses.
Also, if you get something that you can't use that pizza box will be Floating around soon and you could always toss in the "unuseable" pets into there I would think.

Well ladies, I am almost done with my two groups. I might wait until we either have more people in the second dog group to do the shaker boxes. Yep, thats all I have left to do! ( Told you I was excited about this swap! lol ) Come on ladies, we have 3 more spots to fill on the 2nd dog group, and I think the cat group needs 3 more too.

Just checking in.
I have my plates printed. Need to figure out how embellished or simple to go with them.
I cut out my file folders (by hand so please excuse the wavy lines at the very top) and am ready to embellish.
I have the tags cut and the squares cut (okay I cheated with these I have sheets of already made squares, but I promise to make them look good).
So I'm pretty stoked about getting these done on Sunday.

Ugh! I must have Micksteritis. I hate my elements on this swap like she hates hers on Epcot. I had purchased all my embellishments before the holidays. I have these total cool Karen Foster Brads. And well, long story short, none of it makes sense. The premade squares I bought don't really match the Karen Foster Paper. Bad case of the Clash.
Okay, after the kids have baths and head washings I will try again.

Hi Kat! :wave2:
I got a lot done on my library pockets and tags at my crop last Sunday and then WPASADI called so I've not touched it since.
The good news is that our challenge is due tomorrow and the judges won't even START judging until Sunday so I should have plenty of time this weekend to finish this swap.

checking in -- i'm just getting started but will have mailed on time
i'm sorry i have 2 stupid questions --
does 'double matted' mean two or three layers total? i just noticed the tags are to be double matted. how do you all make the additional layers if you punch out the tags with your sizzix? i have the dog tag sizzix die and the big one is about 2 1/2 x 5", but there is no one just a hair smaller for matting?
and secondly, dog group one -- should the tags be empty so you can add your own wording or should they have something on them? you know like a dog? i have a CUTE sizzix embossed dog. should he be in the center of the tag, or do you all want something to it?
AlexWyattMommy
01-22-2007, 02:38 PM
Not a stupid question. I thought double matted meant three layers, but it means two.
For your Dog Tag shaped one, you could cut another one in a different color and cut it in 1/2 and put that on it. True it would only be double matted for 1/2 of the tag, but I but it would still look cute. Or you could put them slightly off center from each other, so one is peeking to one side.
My tags have die cuts on them. Two layers of paper than the die cut and some ribbon diagonal across on one. The other one has a brad & die cut. I bet the embossed dog would look great.

I use Sizzix dies on almost all of my tags. I punch out two different colors with the same size tag dies. Then, I adhere them together so the the top layer is adhered maybe 1/4 inch from the lower layer and so that only the hole on the top layer shows. When I do that the double matting of only the upper part of the tag show, though. Then I punch through the hole with a hole punch so that the hole in the tag goes through both layers. I usually use an eyelet in the hole. Unless the tag is for a library pocket, I usually decorate the whole tag and use the tag for an embellishment, but you can also leave some room for journaling if you want.
Double matted is two layers.

i'm trying  do you have a picture? you lost me on "only the hole on the top layer shows" -- is the top layer angled/crooked? are you saying you line the holes or angle it enough that the holes are not over each other?
i'm sorry -- but :thanks: for your help!! new die cut machine for me and i really want to learn the tricks!

I put both tags together (and don't do any flipping), so one is directly behind (or underneath) the other. Then I move the top tag down 1/4" just until the hole of the bottom tag is covered by the top of the top tag, and adhere. Thus, only the layer of the bottom tag that shows is the top of the bottom tag. The rest that shows, is the top tag. I often also add other layers to portions of the top tag, but what I described is the basic design. Then I embellish the top of the tag once all the layers are there. The only hole that shows when I do this is from the top tag. So, I have to punch a hole, after they are all together through the bottom tag right where the hole of the top tag is.
If you look on the thread for MNSSHP at the photos. I did the Headless Horseman theme and did a tag that illustrates this. There are a lot of ways of doing tags, but that's just an example of how I do them without making two different sized layers.
Hope this isn't too confusing.

I spent about 3 hours on this stuff and I hated all of it!!!! :rotfl2: Sooooo it all went in the bin for something else and I had to put on the thinking cap again and order supplies...

Ok, first of all I have the Tags, Bags, Boxes and more cartridge. There are several tag shapes - I picked an elongated oval shape (like military dog tag). Cut one with the window option (the front of box) and the other with the blackout option (back). Add a puppy in a bathtub, white/iridescent mini beads, foam tape and plastic ~ voila!
I'd post a pic but I mailed my package when I was out at lunch.
I also used the rectangle window cut-out as an embellishment on a photo mat!
The other cool thing I used that I really like is cork. I found 12x12 sheets of it at Michaels or AC Moore (I wish I remembered which) and I definitely want to get more. It really adds great texture.

So is the window option only on the Tags, Bags, Boxes and more cartridge? I havent gotten this one yet, but if I can do shaker boxes with it I get it ASAP! lol. I cut all of the centers of my shaker boxes out by hand! :scared1: But dont worry, I actually do a good job... lol.

I've been using my Fiskars to cut out the inside for shaker boxes.
I did buy 20 premade shaker boxes of ebay that were made with a sizzix die cut. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but these guys are little. And I mean little. So my AK swap will be getting two little shaker boxes instead of one decent sized one. I guess I better go post that over there. :cutie:

I bought those last year - they are the size of a slide frame.... still haven't used them, lol.
:confused3 Besides, I couldn't figure out out to seal them so the beads couldn't fall out. I think that cricut cartridge has the same template if anyone knows how to use it, lol.

The reason I usually add DC is to keep the PO a little more accountable, and hope they pay more attention to what they're doing. Although, DC just means that it's been delivered somewhere. It doesn't confirm the person you address it to actually receives it.

This may be a little off topic, but it is a Pet Swap so I guess it fits here more than other areas.......
Yesterday, I mentioned on another thread that any trips to WDW this year would probably be planned closer to the date of travel because I am wanting to get a new puppy and am attempting to make a job change. :teacher:
I had e-mailed the breeder that I had gotten my corgi (Yoda) from 14 years ago to tell her that he had died in July, that I was heartbroken, and was wanting another one of her corgis sometime this year. She did not have any pups but said she would let me know this year when she had a new litter. Well, on the anniversary of the date that I got Yoda, I started getting really anxious for a new pup kind of related to him.....and I started e-mailing and calling her. She just got back to me last night saying that she is in the process of breeding now and is hoping to have a pup that will be perfect for me. That would be around 9 weeks till they are born (whenever they're conceived) and then another approx. 10 weeks after that until I could pick up the pup. So, I may be looking at June sometime to welcome little "Disney" or little "Pluto"pluto: into my home!!
Whoo Hoo!!! I'm so happy!! :yay: :cool1: :yay:
I also got 2 preliminary job offers, yesterday, that I will be going through the process of considering which I want to pursue. What a day!! party:
Sorry, this is off topic, but I figured the group on this thread was a bunch of animal lovers and it would be safe to share. Thanks for listening! :flower3:

Part of the process is basking in the anticipation and enjoying getting ready, although I've got tons of dog stuff and still have an older female who wants a new friend to play with. I love the whole process of choosing names, etc,...although I guess I have that covered (kind of), too, since I'm wanting one of those two names if they fit the personality of the pup. It's so nice not to have to obsess about when and whether she's going to contact me, now that I heard from the breeder. :cool1:

I have my most beloved " Charlie" he is a doxie, he is so precious. I will share the story behind him. About 3 years ago, a lady near where I lived was pulled over for some traffic viloation or other. She was eventually arrested. But when she was pulled over she had 27 dogs in her hatchback car. Doxies/dashounds. 7 of the females were pregnate!
Animal control was called and they took all the dogs from her. In one of the local papers they said Animal control was looking for "Foster homes" for all the dogs. I really wanted one. I called and they took my name and put me on a list. A few weeks went by and I had heard nothing so I called again and the Animal control officer told me I could come down and pick one out. When I walked in my heart just cried. I wanted to take the few that were left home with me. I picked the 2 that I felt needed me the most. We went into the back room where they could be set down and "Charlie" just came over to me and crawled in my lap.
The ACO ( animal control officer) said he seemed to be one of the "broken" ones. He didn't like men at all and was shy around kids. I told her I wanted him. So I signed my papers, and with my new baby in my arms we went to the vet to get a rabies shot ( it was required and the animal control paid for it. Now keep in mind we are just "foster parents" still.
I arrived home with him and my husband was sitting at his computer, he asked if I got one. I said of course I did. I then set Charlie down on the ground. He RAN over to my husband and jumped in his lap!!! the dog who hates men! I was in shock. To this day he loves my husband and loves to sit in his lap. He dosen't care for any other man though/ Strange as that is.
We had to potty train him. My poor hardwood floors :( It took awhile but we managed it. When we put his food in his dish he wouldn't eat. So for the first week we had him we had to hand feed him. The following weeks he started eating out of his bowl but only taking one piece at a time and backing away from the bowl to eat it.
Then the news came that his owner was allowed to have only 3 of her dogs back and she got to pick the 3 she wanted. Lucky for us Charlie wasn't one of them. We then were able to adopt him.
2 Weeks after we adopted him he was in the back yard and we had left. My oldest daughter was home with him but didn't realize he was in the back yard. He chewed a hole in the wood fence and got out. I was frantic. I called everyone short of the FBI and Military. I plastered posters, put an add in the newspaper, radio stations, called the animal control daily. I was a mess.
19 days later I recived a phone call. They had found him. He was 10 miles from home. Skinny as a rail and injured. I was so excited I drove to the Animal control still in my jammies. I was asked to stay in the office and when they brought Charlie around the corner he saw me and started howling and crying it was so emotional ( I still tear up thinking about it) I called my husband and he could hear Charlie and he wanted to come home but couldn't.
He was injured. His flea collar had gotten wrapped around his left leg when he went under the fence. It was cutting off his leg. I rushed him to the vet. They tol dme thye had to keep him over night, I said oh hell no he is coming home. I will bring him back in the morning for his surgery. They did everything they could to make him comfortable. It was hard taking him back the next morning as I wanted to be with him.
Now he is the light of my life. He has healed and just completly a differant dog than the day I brought him home. And that is the short story of my Charlie Brown.
My other pet is my Kitty Sweetie :) We got her from The Human Society :) She is a spoiled princess cat.

My furbaby is "Missy", she is a Siberian Husky. My sister bred her Husky Tasha and this one of the first litter. I flew to NY to babysit the puppies while my sister and her family went to...DISNEY! without me...anyway I fell in love with the one my sis knickname SB, because she thought the dog was stupid.
Turns out she was the smartest one of the litter. She potty trained in one and a half accidents. I picked her up in the middle of one, took her outside and said THIS is where you go. And that was it. Never another mess. She was hand signal trained (don't do it anymore) and could walk without a leash. We have 25 acres now, so we don't walk her, she takes her constitutional by herself. She'll be 12 this June. Poor old girl. But boy you should see her play in the snow even now.
We have three cats, Beemer, Sister and Brother. They live outside in the barn. But don't feel bad for them. They live in the heated office part of it with a cat door to the barn and then outside. They are quite happy little creatures. Good mousers too.
Can't wait to hear more stories.

Sharing our pets...
Well, I have had many dogs and 1 cat blessing my life. I still miss my precious Duncan, a golden/yellow lab mix, who was with me for a short 7 years, and was quite ill for most of them. We nickname all our pets...his was "poophead"...don't ask...
My 1 cat was Cookie, rescued from a terrible pet store. She had ear mites, and was way too young to be away from mommy. She sucked buttons, fingers, anything for a long long time. Her nickname was "Missy Cookie"
We now have 2 dogs. One is DS18's yellow lab. Her name is Holly. She has to find you a toy when you come home, and then sings with it in her mouth. She also goes between your legs, and if you scratch her back and say "Happy Holly Happy Holly" she will dance for you...always a big laugh for new visitors. Her nickname is "Pudge"
The other dog was supposed to my mine, but adopted DS14 instead. Her name is Maggie and she is a chocolate lab. She doesn't dance, she hops with excitement when she goes between your legs. She doesn't get a toy, but sits back and waits patiently till Holly gets her attention, then she comes up and LUUUURRRVVVVSSSS all over you. Her nickname is "Goozer" which has turned into "Magoo", and now DS is calling her "Montagoo" Poor dog...
I would love another, but DH says 2 is enough...I say no, but what can I do :confused3
Here are "The Girls" The dogs and I are the only ones that get princess pages at my house. Too many boys here...

Well, I already told you about my current story with the puppy that is hopefully "in the oven" or soon will be!!
Gracie is my 12 year old corgi / collie mix. She's very pretty, believe it or not. I wanted a playmate for Yoda, and called the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue in my region. They put me on the list, had me complete an application, and then I waited and waited. Most of the rescue dogs they got, at first, were ones that would not fit in a home that already had other pets, or wouldn't get along with a male, or would not do well with a young dog like Yoda was at the time. After a long wait, I got a call about Gracie who had been turned into a "pound" in northern Michigan by a truck driver who didn't have time for her. She was turned over to Corgi rescue. She made the trip to a foster home in Illinois and the foster Mom arranged to come to my home to do a home visit to "approve" me and my home and also for her to meet Yoda. They played the whole time. I adopted her and she's been part of the family for 10 years. She acts more like 8 years old than 12 and is very playful when she's around other peoples' dogs.
Yoda was my Pembroke Welsh Corgi that I had for almost 14 years until he died last summer. He was so loyal, was always with me and wrapped himself around my heart from the first moment. Kat, your description of your attachment to your Charlie sounds like how mine was with Yoda. I could go on and on, but anyway.........:cloud9:
Hey, did you get my box?

Karen,
Yup I got your box and when I opened it Charlie was sitting right there. When I pulled out the Doggie treats he just got all excited. He followed me all the way to my computer since I carried them with me...
Thank you so much! I gave him one already and he is one happy pup!
P.S. your pieces are once again beautiful! I can't wait to scrap pictures of Charlie :)
Charlie is my baby, I can't even imagine life without him.

My fur babies are dachshunds. I've had dachshunds for over 25 years - they have such personality!
Currently I have two. Zeke, who was a rescue and we believe he is about 13 or 14 years old now. I got him and his 'wife' together back in December of 1996 a week before Christmas. His mate Zena died a couple years ago of renal failure. Zabella, is our 2 yo puppy. I got her from a breeder as my DD was only 5 and I didn't want to deal with a dog that may have 'issues'.
And yes, ever since my 1st dachsie they've all had names beginning with a 'Z' - my mother's do also. The first was Zushka which is Russian for Sophia. My mom was a nurse and had a patient with that name and liked it. That started it all. Between the two of us we've had. Zushka, Zoe, Zirca, Zena, Zeke, Zues, Zenida, Zachary,Ziggy, Zabella. We've both had as many as 4 at one time and my mother, who now works for a vet, has rescued some with back problems.

Glad Charlie enjoyed the treats, Kat. When you mentioned you have a Dachsie, I wasn't sure if the treats would be too big, or not.
I think of all the dogs we had when I was growing up, our dachsie (Hildegard) had the personality that was most similar to my corgis....bossy, comical, loyal, talkative, etc. I've only had corgis as an adult, though.
Oh, and of course, Corgis have the same back problems as Dachsie's due to the really long backs and short legs.

OK I have to tell you all about my Bella Girl!!! She is my fur baby!!!! :cloud9: I had to put my Petou down due to Alpha Male Syndrome, he was attacking everyone in site including me. I so loved that dog, he was my Jack Russell Terrier, but when my husband died, I think something just snapped in him too. He was never the same after. When he started going after my nephews and attacking them, I knew it was time... I just couldn't risk anyone besides myself especially a baby getting hurt really bad. Then 3 weeks later, My 24 year old cat Leroy died from old age. He just couldn't hang on anymore... So it was really rotten, in one year, I lost my husband, my dog and my cat!!! I thought my life was just over... Then about 5 months later I was looking on line at local shelters and there was this picture of a dog and I fell in love! I e-mailed and called immediatly!!! She was still there and I went right away and saw her! Well that was it, I was in love, she was my little girl!
She was bald, sores all over her little body, covered with fleas, skinny and pathetic looking, but the cutest face you ever did see and I knew with love and affection this little dog would be the best! I was right, she now has a great coat of hair all blond and silky, and she is a full 9 pounds!!! No sores ever!!! AND never pathetic looking ever unless she is out in the rain or snow!!!! Or after a bath and all wet!!!! LOL!!!! OR whining for attention!!!!
The shelter did not know her name, because a drunk man threw her at them and left saying he didn't want her anymore. So they gave her the name Tahalulabelle, and I just thought WoW, that name is just HUGE for a doggie to learn right away so I shortened it to Bella! So I call her my Bella girl!!! I dress her in little shirts and coats and she is just the cutest doggie!!!! I spoil her rotten!
October this year, my sister found a litter of kittens behind her shed that she was taking down and we took them to the shelter, I adopted one of them and named her Spooky!!! She was 3 weeks old when I got her and I bottlefed her! She didn't want to get off the bottle, so she had to go back to her littermates for 2 weeks to learn how to use the litterbox and eat! Well after watching her sister and brothers doing it she picked it up in 2 days!!! Little brat!!! Anyway, since she was on the bottle formula for so long, she was the biggest kitten out of the litter!!!! She was double the size of all the others! :rotfl2: They were so cute!!!! Anyway, I have her home and she spent her first Christmas destroying the tree and having lots of fun eating the presents! Yeah, and she loves WATER!!!! I can't keep her away from it!!! She showers with me every morning and I can't keep her out of the toilet! She likes to do cannonballs into it!!! I am not kidding!!! She is psyco kitty!!!! Every morning she is soaking wet!!!! Then I have to take the hairdryer and dry her, she loves it!!! WEIRDO!!!! :rotfl:
So this is my life now! Besides the new Boyfriend and little man who is 5!!!!

I have 3 furbabies right now.
My oldest is a 13 year old Schipperke named Gilly. I got her from the Humane Society when she was 2 1/2 years old. I wish I knew why someone gave her up (or abandoned her, or ???)but I don't. She is definately the Alpha Dog in the house. Very bossy, very active (if it wasn't for all the white hair she has you'd never know she was 13) and very loving. I named her Gilly - her original name was Onyx - because Schipperke means "Little Skipper" in Belgian and the first thing I thought of was Gilligan's Island, since Gilligan was Little Skipper.
My second oldest is Tippy, a 10 year old Schauzer mix. She has the sweetest disposition of any dog I've ever had. I got her from a lady I used to work with when her mom's Standard Schauzer had puppies and Tippy was the last pup in the litter.
My last dog is a 3 year old Beagle named Molly. She is a big beagle (around 40 pounds) and big boned but very agile. She is an excellent rodent catcher (don't let Mickey & Minnie know!) - her total for the year is 4 mice and one rat - and is my "bunk buddie" sleeping right next to me in bed. Molly was a shelter dog who was bounced around from home to home and never really had a permanent family. Her foster mom brought her to my house for review and to see if she would work out. Her fee was $80 which was waived because the foster mom thought I would be such a good home for her. The only stipulation was that if I ever wanted not to have her I should call the foster mom instead of taking her to a shelter. No such problem - except for the first few weeks where some adjustment to the pack took place, she's fit right in.
I love to pop on here and read all the wonderful rescue stories and stories of how Dis Members hold their pets so close to their hearts. I'm so excited to see all the great swap goodies and I hope that we can do this yearly.

way back when seems like forever ago -- we adopted our first dog from the shelter. in the fall of 2002 my DDs and visited the shelter and my oldest, the true dog lover of the family; was drawn to bigger dogs. we live in a housing development and have a small yard. now I was drawn to this one medium sized guy that just looked so small with all the bigger dogs there, cowering outside scared to death. i went over and petted him, he was so scared i just hated to leave him. That night took DH out to see him and by the next day we adopted him. His name was Sparky and we kept it. DD, Taylor took him to obedience classes and he was such a master-pleaser he did so well. She was 10 years old. She then joined 4H, a dog club, and began to learn how to show dogs, groom them, train them, etc. She did 4H for 2 years and then really pined for an AKC dog to show year round. DH and I decided to let her get one when she was 12 and she researched, interviewed breeders, etc and decided on minature wirehaired dachshund. After christmas she got a call that a black/tan boy was available for her, as long as she agreed to 'finish' him in the world of AKC showing. She did that, began training and traveling with her doxie breeder and continues today. Last summer she was invited to travel with a professional handler, which is a big deal. She shows and grooms multiple breeds; dachshund, weimeraner, German wire-haired pointers, co-owns a yellow lab (with her original obedience instructor), boxers, and more i can't think of. mostly in the Hound and Sporting group. She has won Best of Breed before, but not Best in Group yet. anyhow - here is a picture of a door sign i made for our Nov 2005 cruise, sorry it's big:

How fun that there are several doxie owners here! she has a really cute poem from a dachshund book that i'll post later

I have LOVED reading these stories today! I can read the threads at work, but I can't post, so these stories kept me uplifted all day. DH & I don't have children (don't know if we can/will), but we have our "fur babies". We have 5--yes, 5--2 cats and 3 dogs. Here is the breakdown of our darlings:
Our "oldest" is Fish, a cat. He turned 7 in July. When DH & I were dating, we went to PetSmart to get me a dog. We looked at the adoptable ones (our PetSmart has a Humane Society in it. . .not sure if they all do). DH fell in love with this cat. I had NEVER had an inside cat. At the time, he was about 10 weeks old and he was a little ball of fur. We brought him home at the first of July. I took him to the vet for a check-up, and they told me that he was a Mainecoon--an actual breed, where they have the big fluffy hair and can weigh up to 30-40 pounds. :scared1: About 3 weeks later, we went on vacation with my parents and DMIL kept our "baby". Turns out he had ringworm, and they had to shave him. He looked like Dr. Evil's cat on Austin Powers. It was so sad, but so funny! We had to take him every week for 6 weeks to be dipped in a sulfur bath (stinky!!) and shaved again. Now, though, he is king of the house--he weighs a little over 20 pounds, sleeps in the bed with us, with his head on my pillow and his body stretched out like a human! He is definitely DH's cat!!
Our other cat baby is Maggy or Maggy May (after the Rod Stewart song). She turned 7 in December. Right before DH & I got married, we were moving into our apartment. A woman I worked with (who introduced DH & me) called about 9 p.m. one night. She said that her friend was a vet and had called her. Evidently, someone had put a box containing Maggy and 3 of her siblings in the middle of the road to be run over. Nice, huh? :furious: Another person ( ) had picked them up and taken them to the vet's house. The woman from work had seen them and thought one looked like Fish. We went to pick her up right then. She was about 3 weeks old and she fit into DH's hand. We think she was abused during her first 3 weeks of life. She immediately attached herself to me--to this day, we think she believes I am a cat. She tried to nurse on my finger and even now, she will follow me to whatever room I go to so she can make sure I don't leave her. She's my baby! (She's also been known to see the suitcases indicating a vacation and then wait until we leave the room and throw up on them! :sad2: ).
As though this isn't long enough, we have 3 outside dogs. The original two are Buster & Keaton--both golden retrievers. They are brother and sister. Buster (the boy) is blonde, and Keaton (the girl) is more of a reddish color. About 2 weeks after I had a miscarriage in 2003, a little girl I coached told me that she had golden retriever puppies. She asked if we wanted one, for free. I had never had an outside dog--or a BIG dog. We went down and adopted Buster. About 3 days later, DH decided Buster needed a playmate, so we adopted his sister, Keaton. They have been such blessings to us!! They are so fun to play with!!
Our youngest is Lucy, a lab mix who is solid white. Last January, DH & I were going to get an inside dog. We went to adopt one, and DH saw Lucy and fell in love. The woman said, "Oh, she's going to be small. No more than 8 or 10 pounds." Yep, that was NOT right. She was 20 pounds by the time for her first vet visit (3 weeks later). She was an inside dog for about a month, and then she moved herself outside. She loved to go outside (we have a fenced in yard where the dogs live) and play with B & K, and one day, she just refused to come in. She is a bundle of joy!!
I know this is the longest post ever, but i just wanted to share our fur babies!!

I love reading all the stories of your furbabies!
Before last year I was NOT an animal person. I even went as far as to say I hated animals. Even more specifically I hated cats. I could almost see the appeal of a dog, but a cat just seemed smelly and not that much fun. For years I nixed any talk of us getting a pet. But DH, in his infinite wisdom, knew to make an end run around me on this one and surprised me one day by bringing home a kitten.
Last spring we got this torrential rainfall that caused major flooding in our area. The kitten showed up in the rain on the doorstep of one of DH's coworkers. She tried without luck to find an owner and since she couldn't keep it, she brought it to work and asked if anyone could take him home. DH took one look and fell in love. When he brought him home, at first I said, "Bring him back!" but I was a lot distracted by the fact that our own cellar was flooded so I wasn't as upset as I might have been on another day. I didn't fall in love as quickly as DH did - it took me about 45 minutes. ;) But I was hooked. We brought him to the vet (because we didn't even know if he was a boy or a girl) and we learned he was a he, and he was very healthy and those funny looking tootsies meant he was double-pawed. We decided to name him Lucky, because to me the double-paws seemed a sign of luck and DH said he was lucky that he found us and we found him. What's funny is that DH and I each came up with the name separately!
Lucky's almost a year old now and I can't imagine my life without him! I am so the proud mama - I take pictures like you wouldn't believe and I think everything he does is adorable. He's very smart, of course, and absolutely beautiful. And he's very affectionate and sweet and hysterically funny. SIOH - you said your cat thinks you're a cat too - I'm pretty sure Lucky thinks he's a human. When he goes to the vet he does not get along with the other cats and he gives them a look like "What on earth are these strange things?" It's no wonder he thinks that way though. After we had had Lucky a few months my DH came home and said that original coworker had "found Lucky's mother." I panicked, thinking we were going to have to give him back, but it turns out he meant, literally, Lucky's mother - the cat that gave birth to him. I assumed she meant the previous owner, because in my mind, I'm Lucky's mother! She had seen a cat that looked a lot like Lucky with a new litter of kittens that looked just like him. She figured out who the owner was - a woman with tons of cats that she didn't take care of so it was definitely a good thing that he 'left home.' It's just a sign of his intelligence - he could see things weren't going to be good for him there so he headed off in search of a better life!
Nobody who knows me can believe I made such a huge shift to loving an animal this much, especially my DH. I tell them that Lucky is just very special!
Here's my gorgeous boy:

Shauna, I know how you feel. You know, I bet it will still arrive. I sent a box priority to a friend last year, in priority packaging, and it took two to three weeks to arrive in the Phillie area (and I'm in Illinois). It was also insured. I haven't googled your condition yet, but I hope it something that will heal quickly.:flower3:
I woke up two weeks ago with a beet red eye and severe pain in my right eye. After trying to "deal" with it for the morning, I went to the optometrist who told me I had the "largest corneal ulcer" he had ever seen. He gave me some antibiotic eye drops that I used for a week and half before he figured out that they weren't working so he sent me to a corneal specialist last Friday. Mind you, this whole time I was restricted from computer work (not that I stopped), watching TV and all close work (reading, scrapping, knitting, etc.) and I had to wear sunglasses and a hat everywhere I went. By last Friday, my eye was still totally swollen and red and the corneal specialist freaked out on me, presribed three different antibiotic drops/ointments and made me come back yesterday. The good news is that my eye is FINALLY getting better. The pain is mostly gone but my vision is still blurry and she still has me limited to only 1/2 hour of "close work" a day.
So that is what I mean when I say "close work". Honestly, it is nice to be able to do something other than watch TV and be online against doctors' orders. The bad news is that it will take me a bit to finish because my eye still gets really tired and starts to burn if I focus too long on anything.
Thanks for the well wishes, though! I am definitely ready for it to be better!

shauna -- i'm so sorry about your eye and then having to remake your swap!! oh my mucho PD heading your way!!
anyhow - a while back i promised to post a cute dachshund tidbit for those of us with doxies, but really this sentiment could be used for most any dog I bet! thought you may like it for a layout sometime, it's from Dachshunds for Dummies book:
The Dachshund philosophy:
How does a dachshund view the world? Much like a toddler. You may have seen versions of this list before, referring to Dachshunds, or, in a slightly differently form (but not too different!) to small children. This is how a Dachsie thinks:
If I like it it's mine.
If I think I might like it, it's mine.
If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
If it was ever in my mouth, it's mine.
If I can take it from you, it's mine.
If you take it from me, it's still mine.
If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
If I'm chewing something, all the pieces are mine.
If it looks just like mine, it's mine.
If I saw it first, it's mine.
If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
Everything I've ever laid eyes or teeth upon is mine........including you!

I've seen that "Dachsund philosophy" written as a dog's philosophy and also written with every breed under the sun in the title. When you think about it, it applies to most dogs, especially puppies. And some puppies never seem to age, even when they're 14 years old!! It's in one of my corgi's scrapbook.

I love this! I have a kitten and she is EVIL, (she takes after me) :lmao:
Anyway, this quote describes her to a T!!!!!

OK Ladies. Thank you for your patience. I have re-done my elements and will be mailing tomorrow morning with DC.
Thank you all for being willing to wait for me. My eye has improved quite a bit and I'm allowed a full hour a day to do close work. The corneal specialist said that I should be lucky and won't have any scarring.
Thanks for all the PD!
More pixiedust: headed your way so you heal even quicker! Glad to hear there is no scarring! That is great news!

Thanks again for waiting for me, ladies. I'm sorry to have held you up!

I was trying to narrow it down.... had 8 items for the group, right number.... checked names and found that the item from PigletsPal was in the wrong bag - which now makes my group 1 pack have 10 items (as it should) and my group 3, 7 items (my own the missing one)

Disneyfreakk.. hehe no worries, I was trying to put forth the extra effort and getting DC on everyones packages to show proof that the items were in fact mailed.
I am baffled at the missing items though.. They have got to be in someones box but like I said I even had my husband helping me sort ( maybe there lies the problem..lol) but he was even watching me pick up one from each pile for each group.

Kat said someone flaked in group 1, so I wonder how you got 10 items for group 1??
Who flaked kat? Maybe when you post pics we can all tell which ones we made for which group. That might help out in finding the missing stuff since not everyone puts their names of the bags.

bookmama, have you looked at the swap glossary thread? It has some links to websites that give you step-by-step instruction on how to make most of the elements.
To help with the overall feel, pick one main color for all your elements. Than only use one or two other complimenting colors until you get the hang of it. Simple is very okay, as long as you are using good quality paper and embellishments.
I noticed your cutting was jagged and uneven. Do you have a scrapbooking store near you? Like an Archivers or locally owned one. They will have special die cutting machines you can use - for free - if you buy the paper there at that store. This will help you tremendously with keeping clean lines and not spending a lot of money on machines & gadgets.
If you need advice or help - please ask someone - we are willing to help. We have all been new and amatuerish.

It's not you. I've bought three different paper trimmers - both the Creative Memories cutting system straight edge and the new CM straight cutter and the Fiskars grey and orange cutter. NONE of them cut straight. Only the expensive ones trim in a straight line. Don't feel bad. It drives me crazy, too!
