Kind of a rant, but

Okay. I play the cello. I have had the same orchestra teacher for 4 years, and I have never really liked her all that much. There are 2 cellos in my grade. I have held first chair for 4 years, and we test about 10 times a year for chairs. My test scores have always been at least 5 points higher than the other girl's. The other girl just happens to be the most popular girl in the grade. My orchestra teacher is young and very popular, and tends to take a liking to those types of people.
We just had a playing test. I got graded off because I did not cresendo as much as my techer would have liked, so I got a 49/50. I had about 7 different shifts in my section that I did by strong recommendation from the teacher, aka, I lose two points if I don't have those. The other girl has the one shift that everyone was required to do. She pauses during her test, shifts to the wrong position, the teacher says "no, third position," and then she shifts to the correct place. After the test, the teacher says "okay, in the same spot that I told Emily about you DEcresendoed instead of cresendoing, and you need to work on that shift."

And then she gets a 50/50, and first chair.

I don't care that the teacher chooses to challenge me more, but I feel that on tests like that, the grading should be un-biased.

It also doesn't help that my fellow cellist had hoards of people stopping by her locker to congradulate her:rolleyes:

But really, am I being so unfair to think like this?

In a way. I think its a little unfair. I mean at least you were crosendowing (I can't spell) a little bit instead of decrosendowing(still can't spell).

well i couldn't understand all the details. but i think chairing is kind of unfair in the first place. you really dont' have to rub it in people's faces that they are worse than others.

i mean in our grade we dont' and i know at our high school we don't.

so i don't think that your being unfair or a sore loser. if you weren't doing it as much as she liked, and the other girl was doing the complete oppsite, isn't that a little....BAD HORRIBLE CRAPPY?

well i agree with you rr. although i have no idea what your real name is i'm calling you rr for the rest of your life.

I agree. Unfair. But still, teacher's decision. Do you have a system at your school where you can "challenge" her for the chair? If, so that would be the route to take.

It's definitely unfair. Maybe since you've had first chair for a while the teacher's trying to give someone else a chance? :confused3

Still seems pretty unfair to me.

If that is really what your teacher said, then honestly I would take that up with a student guidance counsellor or one of your school's principals. Grading should be un-biased, and your administrators will understand your concerns.

I have a similar situation with a teacher right now, but I'm too scared to talk to her in case she does something to my marks. The best advice I can give you is to confront her first, and if she simply shrugs you off, then I would talk to somebody who will listen.

That seems unfair. My sister has a similar issue. She is the only girl in a group of 15 boys, and the teacher is young. She says he favors boys.

That is unfair. Go see a guidence councellor and tell them about it.

I say you should challenge her back.

Challenge!

That isn't fair, honestly.

That is really unfair for a teacher to do something so dumb....but then again i know how picky teachers can be when the challenges are close.

none...

but I just feel like, I don't know, I wouldn't mind if it was fair and square, but this doesn't seem like that.

And my friends keep yelling at me whenever I say how it kind of upsets me.:guilty:
And then they go on to tell me how sooo many people were sooo happy for her, they were all at her locker after school. Thanks for making me feel better guys:sad1:

^^but you guys, really, thanks. I feel a little bit better, like I feel it's unfair for a valid reason.

oh. well you obviously have more experience than she does. i dunno, maybe the teacher thinks she has potential and wants someone new.....no offense. don't worry about your friends. you have a right to be mad. if you can't talk to them, we are all here for you!:) :grouphug:
