Kind of a rant, but
Okay. I play the cello. I have had the same orchestra teacher for 4 years, and I have never really liked her all that much. There are 2 cellos in my grade. I have held first chair for 4 years, and we test about 10 times a year for chairs. My test scores have always been at least 5 points higher than the other girl's. The other girl just happens to be the most popular girl in the grade. My orchestra teacher is young and very popular, and tends to take a liking to those types of people.
We just had a playing test. I got graded off because I did not cresendo as much as my techer would have liked, so I got a 49/50. I had about 7 different shifts in my section that I did by strong recommendation from the teacher, aka, I lose two points if I don't have those. The other girl has the one shift that everyone was required to do. She pauses during her test, shifts to the wrong position, the teacher says "no, third position," and then she shifts to the correct place. After the test, the teacher says "okay, in the same spot that I told Emily about you DEcresendoed instead of cresendoing, and you need to work on that shift."
And then she gets a 50/50, and first chair.
I don't care that the teacher chooses to challenge me more, but I feel that on tests like that, the grading should be un-biased.
It also doesn't help that my fellow cellist had hoards of people stopping by her locker to congradulate her:rolleyes:
But really, am I being so unfair to think like this?
