Camping at Fort Wilderness

Hi, We live in Michigan and were thinking of camping at Fort Wilderness for 3 nights the first weekend in March. We're flying and plan on packing the tent.
We love camping but not sure if we should stay at a resort instead due to our short trip and packing everything for the flight.
Would appreciate any suggestions or thoughts.

Hey there, I guess it would depend on what your plans for the weekend would be; are you going to focus on doing a lot in the parks or are you going to rest and take it easy? If you plan on doing a lot in the parks it would save time to just get to your resort with ME, check in and go to the parks without going to your room, your bags will be taken there for you. If you're just going to have a more relaxed weekend, going to the fort, then checking in and setting up your campsite would be OK. Of course, when you fly with your camping equipment you don't tend to have all the camping bells and whistles that make set-up take a bit longer than just checking into a resort (that was our experience when we took the train last September, I've got to write that trip report someday). There are alot of people who do weekend trips and stay at Fort Wilderness (off-season weekends will find loops full of families from Florida who are there for the weekend).

If it were me, and I had 4 or less in my family, I'd stay at a resort for a weekend. This is from someone who loves Fort Wilderness so much, if I could get buried there I would. Over there on the very far side of the beach going toward River Country. A nice shady spot at the edge of the trees in view of the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. :angel: :flower3: :dancer: (this was the only preacher-like smilie I could find, there'll be dancing and the celebration of life at my funeral!)

I have flown and camped before, but never for less than 6 nights. For me set up and tear down take at least 1/2 day each, so for only a couple of nights it's not worth it.

As the previous poster said, if this is a relax at the Fort weekend, then go for it. If you want to maximize the park time, I would stick with a hotel resort.

Thanks for the advise. I think we'll check into the mod or value resorts. Any suggestions?
