Ok I found my paper. This is from a magazine I bought several years ago. This was written by Franny van Nevel in Woman's Day 1/2/01

PRIZE! If you complete said assignment by the end of the month rlovew is willing to cut out a title for the World Showcase for you!

Goal: Find the remote! or in my house the remoteSSSSS

Declutter:
- Recycle old magazines, flyers, mail order catalogs. Sort the rest.
- Cull piles of photos- separate the good, the bad, and the ugly. Toss the bad. :faint: share duplicates with friends and family. Set aside the rest for now.
- Go through CD's, videos, books. Create piles for keepers, loaner-returners, donation or resale.
- Paw through the stacks of games and toys; collect missing pieces and put them in appropriate boxes. Create stacks to donate, to toss, to store elsewhere and to keep in the family room. Donate what you can't use. like our 1000 different Monopoly games
- Start inventory list of model and serial numbers for your TV, stereo, VCR, DVD player, etc., for your homeowners insurance.

Clean:
-Vacuum and clean floor, walls, bookshelves, entertainment centers, windowsills, mini blinds, and ceiling fans.
- Dry clean or launder drapes, throws, and area rugs. If possible, switch sides when rehanging drapes to minimize sun damage.
-Spot clean sofas; vacuum cushions and sofa base; flip and rotate cushions. Dig down the sides for lost coins Hey for those saving for big trips this is good and writing instruments and don't forget food -blech

Maintain:
-Choose a drawer or find a basket to hold remotes. Or attach infrequently used remotes to components with Velcro.
-Buy acid free photo boxes or albums for pictures. Spend 1/2 an hour a week arranging albums. Obviously written before the scrapbook obsession took hold LOL
- Designate a basket or box to hold on-load tapes, books, videos. Write return dates on the calendar.
-Initiate weekly 5 minute cleanups with family members( :rotfl2: ) to keep things moving toward their designated spaces.
-Once organized take a photo or videotape of the room to keep with your home inventory list.

OK everyone needs to post their progress!!!

I printed it so I can refer...

Oh and :rotfl2: to the weekly 5 min cleanups with family members...that for real? If I wait a week, it will take longer than 5 min to get that room back together! My conclusion is that she actually lives alone....

Okay, I'll try some of this tomorrow.. My family room is fairly clean..but only because DH decided to clean today so because he was "bored"... no football on at that point! As for magazines.. we don't have many.. I have 4 scrapbook ones and they are in my scraproom...
As for 5 min. family member help.. Well, we can hope for miracles!!!

I am so in for this.
Our family room is where we hang out, watch TV, etc. So we have tons of pillows, blankets, movies and books all over.
I promise to find a home that these things will go back everyday. I promise to move the couch to vacuum, mmm, tomorrow. I promise to wash the curtains. Okay they are really shower curtains 'cause we were broke when we finished building this house. But they are a nice linen look and washing them means, yup, ironing them.
Is that worth an England topper?

I think I will try to start sorting through our videos when DH leaves for Kentucky Wednesday. This will be one of the easier rooms for me as we don't have a living room and i like to keep this one clean for our guests but I guess i need to start by getting the Christmas gifts still in there but away.

BernardandMissBianca
01-01-2007, 03:34 PM
I can put my living/family room back together after the tree comes down. We have to rearrange furniture to get the tree in so it's kind of cramped. I have already started to straighten the table up though.

I am in. Its one of my goals to get more organized. Well the problem isnt getting organized its staying organized.

StitchIsOurHero
01-01-2007, 03:47 PM
I'm in. I'm hoping to just get some actual cleaning done tomorrow. . .our family/living room will be one of the easier ones to do. It's just DH & I, so once he puts away the Christmas boxes, it shouldn't take long.

Now, the scrap room, that's another story. If I could actually see the floor when I walked in there, I'd consider it a success!!

YodasMom
01-01-2007, 04:04 PM
My family room is in pretty good shape. I do have a fairly new oak media cabinet that still does not have the shelves installed and can't be used until it's fully assembled. So, getting that functional will be helpful in getting the DVD's and CD's out of another room. I'm so good at getting organizational furniture and tools and not assembling them or actually putting things in them!

Since the dining room flows off of the family room ( at a right angle) and is full of scrap stuff, that's still my major goal to get sorted, organized, and out of there.......so, I'm including that in my family room organization this month.

01-01-2007, 05:37 PM
I decided to take a look at our family room and convinced DH to help me weed through our DVD and CD collection- we did that and it looks messier for now with piles to take to different people- but I will deliver those by Sunday. I only have to declutter 1 bookcase and I will be done with step 1- once everything has made it to new homes. Then it will be off to the cleaning section.

BernardandMissBianca
01-01-2007, 06:07 PM
I've got about 1/2 the table cleared off and most of the new DVD's rounded up to be absorbed into the old stuff. DD keeps waking up form her nap though. One good thing is I have DH out running an errand to get him out of my hair for a few minutes.

PrincessNancy96
01-01-2007, 06:11 PM
Well, my DVD's and Video tapes are in order.. I'm so anal they are alphabetical order for the Disney Videos! The DVD's aren't.. I need to find a cabinet for the CD's.. they are neatly stacked though.. The top of the entertainment center is cleared and dusted...
Now, the floor has upteen years of Christmas pictures that need put into their photo box and transported to the scraproom..but right now I'm scrapping 1995 Christmas! LOL Yes, I'm starting my Christmas albums! Yeah!

I will join this challenge! A one month time frame seems to be something I can manage.

I think now is the time to finally go through my CDs and copy the ones that I never listen to all the way through into iTunes and set them free. The list of albums I actually listen to is about 20. The number of CDs I have on my shelf? In the hundreds. I almost exclusively listen to music through my computer anyway - it just makes sense.

I too am printing out the list in post one and I won't let the month end without finishing it!

All that after the kids go to school. Thank goodness they all have a long day tomorrow. :goodvibes

move couch to vacuum
wash and iron curtains
take down last tree and put it in box
take boxes to barn

ddavis860

I worked on my scrap/craft room all day, I can see floor, and have a ton of paper for the recycle...mostly things that seemed like saving at the time...print...and pile...some recipes were saved, and all bead patterns, but the rest is junk...sigh...
SOOOO, another goal, saving on puter, not on paper for 2007...

List for tomorrow:
Bank
JC Penny for a return
Borders
Office Max

I got a few small things done tonight. I cleaned, reorganized and weeded out our video nook. (DVDs are housed elsewhere - they will be another project.) I did the same for one bookcase.

I also started my list for Thursday (my next day off). It includes: post office to return a package, gathering up and returning all the used printer and fax printer cartridges I bring home from work to recycle and going to Target to buy a couple trunks to house books and videos from my childhood that I can't part with yet but don't need to be on display. I also plan to wash the curtains, go grocery shopping and take my crockpot out of the box and maybe use it. I got it for Christmas, you see... In 2003!!! It never made it out of the box, but a friend gave me a crockpot cookbook for Christmas year and told me now I have no excuse.

YodasMom
01-01-2007, 11:11 PM
I assembled my second scrap paper storage rack tonight. This one went together easier because I didn't follow the directions! My next step(hopefully, tomorrow night) is to organize my cardstock by color and the patterned paper by theme, and actually put the paper on the shelves of the racks. They will be going in the basement so it doesn't take up so much room elsewhere.

Now that I'm in an assembly mood, I might put the shelves in my media storage cabinet tonight or tomorrow night. I'll be organizing my DVD's and CD's, etc by themes......Disney, drama, comedy....so that they can be watched based on the mood of the moment!

Well I got all of my Christmas stuff put away and my living room back together. Doesn't seem like a whole lot, but it did take a while.
My goals for tomorrow:
1. go to the gym first thing
2. grocery shopping
3. take Brooklynn to school
4. if Molly is up to it, run to office max, michaels and bed bath and beyond (for new curtains) while Brooklynn is in school. If not, that will have to wait until Wed.
5. get the dirty laundry out of the living room and into the laundry room.
6. Get clean laundry out of the living room and into the dressers.

Thanks for the reminder DS10 has a dentist appt at 3:30. Of course now I have to figure out how to pay for it. They have opted to not accept our insurance anymore.

I scraped today too!!!!:cool1:

Ergh! I'll be mad if the Bank isn't open tomorrow. I need to deposit some xmas checks to make a payment on our trip to WDW.

Not sure, but I think by law the banks must be open tomorrow. The law says a bank can't be closed more than three days in a row, so if I was you, I would try stopping by.

Okay as far as cleaning my living room this motn, it just got easier. DH and I bought new living room furniture yesterday, so I need to empty the wall unit of everything and the room needs to be ready by the 1/25 delivery, so I still have the whole month, but I know it will be clean before February's challenge!:thumbsup2

My goals for today:
1. Walk on elptical machine for at least 10 minutes before signing up for swap(I need a reason to do it).- done, although only 5 minutes before swap signups its been awhile and I can't do 10 minutes at 1 times- I will work my way back up

If I hadn't decided to drive into Fort Myers for lunch with DH and to stop by the craft stores in town and look for swap materials then I probably could have actually got some swapping done.

Tomorrow's goals:
1. Go through bags and baskets in the family room and sort out things. POut them all away.

I succeeded with my goals today too

1. I did my Walk away the Pounds 1 mile tape
2. Only signed up for one swap
3. Shredded documents for 2002. This one was the hardest, because the shredder jammed up, I had to take it apart, clean it out, and put it back together. It's amazing how much one year's worth of paperwork turns out to be shredded. Too bad I still have 2001-1993 still to do. Then I have to clean out the desk of the last couple of years, and shred what needs to be shredded. That's my goal for all of January.

Well I got the grocery shopping done, but that was about it. The dentist was a bust, I thought it was at 3:30 but it was at 1:30 so we missed it. Not like I had the money to pay them so what ever.

Tonight
-Pizza Box
-5 pages journaled
-1 CJ completed
-Sort DVD's
-Copy pages for Mom's scrapbooks, we are going to a crop on Sat
-Gather pics and papers for said crop

Wednesday:

-Bank We'll try again. Our bank is 30 minutes away so I try to avoid going there unless necessary.
-Tree
-Mall DH's watch died so I need to get a new battery. Near bank so that's good.
-ACMoore I'm in need of some retail therapy and since I have gift cards I don't have to feel guilty.
-Walk Done 2miles WOO HOO!!
-TRU Darn Disney mix stick doesn't work again. So I'm getting DS10 an IPod soon.
-Cancel DH's DR. appt, he'll be in BF Washington state.

My DH works in N Fort Myers. I am about 30 miles outside of Fort Myers in the center of the state. I do love Florida weather but I hate the city traffic. Today was only the 3rd time I had driven to Fort Myers alone and I have only driven with others 2 times. Normally I ride with DH or a friend into the city. We have lived here for 3 and 1/2 years.

My house has been sparkly for three days now. I asked my DH, don't you like it? He says, "What, your not doing it for me, your doing it for your internet friends." I told him, you make me some toppers and I'll do it just for you.

Okay, from the list B&MB had, I just need to inventory equipment and go through DVDs. I even found a basket to hold our remotes & Xbox stuff. I was pretty sad that there was no money in my couch. But very happy there wasn't much under it. I've been doing better there.

So today,
take DS to school and pick up later
fold laundry and put away (yesterday's laundry is already put away :yay: )
call about jury duty at appointed time
grocery shop after taking DS to school
call preschool if jury duty because little bit will have to come with me
wash kitchen floor
(trees are down) take boxes to barn.

And start on my swaps if there is time.

That wasn't so bad! Items complete!
Declutter:
- Recycle old magazines, flyers, mail order catalogs. Sort the rest. Only have 5..for DS6 school work!
- Cull piles of photos- separate the good, the bad, and the ugly. Toss the bad. share duplicates with friends and family. Set aside the rest for now. No problem..photos are being organized in scraproom
- Go through CD's, videos, books. Create piles for keepers, loaner-returners, donation or resale. No problem..we had weeded prior to Thanksgiving!
- Paw through the stacks of games and toys; collect missing pieces and put them in appropriate boxes. Create stacks to donate, to toss, to store elsewhere and to keep in the family room. Donate what you can't use. like our 1000 different Monopoly games WE have a game cabinet in the basement so those items were already done there with the exception of the new ones for Christmas.. Just a few reminders to the kids and they are all stacked downstairs ready for the shelf to be dusted!
- Start inventory list of model and serial numbers for your TV, stereo, VCR, DVD player, etc., for your homeowners insurance. Inventory list made.. DH just needs to get the serial numbers done tonight!

Clean:
-Vacuum and clean floor, walls, bookshelves, entertainment centers, windowsills, mini blinds, and ceiling fans. DONE
- Dry clean or launder drapes, throws, and area rugs. If possible, switch sides when rehanging drapes to minimize sun damage. DONE
-Spot clean sofas; vacuum cushions and sofa base; flip and rotate cushions. Dig down the sides for lost coins Hey for those saving for big trips this is good and writing instruments and don't forget food -blech Cleaned..just a few items of wrappers.. uhm, lecture started!

Maintain:
-Choose a drawer or find a basket to hold remotes. Or attach infrequently used remotes to components with Velcro. basket by my side of the couch w/ controls in there!
-Buy acid free photo boxes or albums for pictures. Spend 1/2 an hour a week arranging albums. Obviously written before the scrapbook obsession took hold LOL not, scrapping instead!
- Designate a basket or box to hold on-load tapes, books, videos. Write return dates on the calendar. no returns/ going to library tonight.. maybe...
-Initiate weekly 5 minute cleanups with family members( ) to keep things moving toward their designated spaces. We are going to try this! Wish us luck!
-Once organized take a photo or videotape of the room to keep with your home inventory list. Done! Photos taken today.. it was clean.. couldn't pass it up!

My house has been sparkly for three days now. I asked my DH, don't you like it? He says, "What, your not doing it for me, your doing it for your internet friends." I told him, you make me some toppers and I'll do it just for you.

:rotfl2: That is too funny!

Great job Nancy! My house was built in 1946 so all my rooms are little too. Makes it easy to clean out everything.

I hear ya PBLM! We resided the house..and the insulation they had on the outside... I was fuming.. it looked like Reynolds Wrap! I was like no way! My DH laughed at me because I was a fussin' and a cussin'... Than FIL explained that was insulation in those days! Hello, give me that big, fluffy pink panther insulation.. now that is insulation!

I live in apartment, so it's a little hard to jump into these room challenges too. I do have to organize regularly otherwise we would run out of room quickly! The biggest area of non-organization is the desk/file cabinet/shoe boxes of financial stuff, so that's what I've been focusing on.

I am probably about 3/4 of the way done with the shredding.
I did my exercise tape
DH made an appointment at the PO to apply for our passports, next Tuesday (Woo Hoo)
And most importantly, another day where I didn't spend any money. Although we found out that DH's latest dentist appointment didn't get covered because they only cover 2 cleanings per year (GRRR, I could use that $150)

I'm impressed, Nancy!! My family room clean-up is going to be this weekend. We did get all of the Christmas stuff put away last night, into the attic, so that's done. Just have to move the desk back to its rightful spot and clean, clean, clean.

Here 's my list from today (I stunk it up!):

1. Do 30-40 exercise minutes. Nope, lost the battle.
2. Visit my kindergarten teacher (we visit every year, and tomorrow's the day) did this--it was fun!
3. Scrap at least 2 pages not yet
4. Use my mom's tanning bed She wasn't home, so I didn't go by.
5. Dust living room Nope, DH said we'd do the living/family room this wknd
6. Survive work with being less negative! Didn't really do too good at this either. The woman I work with was in her office. I told her I was going to go run schedules (we do this together). An hour and 15 minutes later, she came in and asked if I was running schedules. When I said, "Yes", she said, "Why didn't you tell me? I wanted to help." I didn't do so well with the no negativity!!

Ok, my goals list was crap today. Starting fresh tomorrow. We have a basketball game tomorrow, so my list of things to do tomorrow has to be modified.

1. Exercise 30-40 minutes (I'd like to do this before work)
2. Follow my WW eating plan
3. Call to schedule appointments
4. Be less negative at work!!
5. Get to work with everything I need (I couldn't get that going today!)
6. Weigh in to determine starting weight for diet.

I hope everyone has a successful Thursday!! :cheer2:

I only met one of my initial goals for today because my Dad called and asked me if I wanted to go to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch as his Christmas present to me. How could I resist? Yum! I did go to the post office to return my package with him, but I didn't feel like going out again afterward so I focused on in-the-house tasks. I made HUGE progress on the goals for this thread.

Declutter:
- Recycle old magazines, flyers, mail order catalogs. Sort the rest. DONE
- Cull piles of photos- separate the good, the bad, and the ugly. Toss the bad. :faint: share duplicates with friends and family. Set aside the rest for now. N/A - this is done on a regular basis.
- Go through CD's, videos, books. Create piles for keepers, loaner-returners, donation or resale. Books, DVDs, and Videos done. CDs are in another room and I will get to those later.
- Paw through the stacks of games and toys; collect missing pieces and put them in appropriate boxes. Create stacks to donate, to toss, to store elsewhere and to keep in the family room. Donate what you can't use. Done.
- Start inventory list of model and serial numbers for your TV, stereo, VCR, DVD player, etc., for your homeowners insurance.Done for all the things in the living room.

Clean:
-Vacuum and clean floor, walls, bookshelves, entertainment centers, windowsills, mini blinds, and ceiling fans. Done in a big way! I went over every inch of that room tonight. I don't clean often, but when I do I go all out!
- Dry clean or launder drapes, throws, and area rugs. If possible, switch sides when rehanging drapes to minimize sun damage. Done - I did all the curtains in the whole house so I've got a jump on other rooms! Who knew my curtains were white and not off-white!?
-Spot clean sofas; vacuum cushions and sofa base; flip and rotate cushions. Dig down the sides for lost coins Not yet - I want to pick up some upholstery cleaner for the sofas.

Maintain:
-Choose a drawer or find a basket to hold remotes. Or attach infrequently used remotes to components with Velcro. Already have a box for these.
-Buy acid free photo boxes or albums for pictures. Spend 1/2 an hour a week arranging albums. N/A but I did replace a couple albums that were ready to fall apart at the seams and completely reorganized the 'Photo album/scrapbook bookcase' that I had deconstructed about a month ago and never put back together.
- Designate a basket or box to hold on-load tapes, books, videos. Write return dates on the calendar. Already have a spot for these.
-Initiate weekly 5 minute cleanups with family members( :rotfl2: ) to keep things moving toward their designated spaces. N/A. DH does way more cleaning than I ever do and 99.99% of the clutter in the house is mine.
-Once organized take a photo or videotape of the room to keep with your home inventory list. Not yet - once I take the donation boxes out of the room.

I feel like I accomplished so much! I took "before" pictures. When I take the "after" I'll post them.

Goals for Friday:
1. Take car in for an oil change by 8:30 at the latest. (This will force me to get up and out early and start my day.)
2. If it's not raining, walk for at least 30 minutes while I wait for the car to be done.
3. Target for upholstery cleaner, trunks, and something I'm forgetting.
4. AC Moore for swap supplies.
5. If AC Moore doesn't have what I want, go to not-so-local scrapbooking store for backup.
6. Recycle all printer/fax cartridges.
7. Place online photo order.
8. Take GPS unit that I bought DH for Christmas out of the box and get it ready for him to use.
9. Clean living room set and then take picture of my finished room.
10. Start on at least one swap.

I've already got my idea for my title Rebecca!!!;)

I haven't got the newest update to the software that more easily lets me weld words- everyone is going to get the same one- I just don't know what it will be. If I have time I will make a special one for the group- If I feel I don't have much time then I will cut one I already have welded together. Anyway, I will definately send the same title to everyone- I can create it and then have the machine cut it over and over again from a 12 X12 piece of cardstock. If you have a phrase or word you would like you can PM me and I will think about it.

If you want to send stamps you can. I figure I will do something that I can send in a regular first class envelope. I'll take care of postage this month though- if you want to send some for future months you can send it (If I am doing a swap that you are hostessing wait and send it with the swap- I will probably send your first months title with my swap unless I send the swap out before Feb 1.) and I will keep a file with each persons envelope. As far as paper is concerned. I can usually cut 6-8 title from 1 12x12 piece of paper or 5-6 from an 81/2 x11. I haven't yet figured how to cut from scraps on this machine. If people want to send the cardstock to cut out the titles for a month they could do that- otherwise I will use what I have around- I have drawers filled with it and might as well use it.

I figured I would cut the word out and send it on with cardboard in the envelope.

Getting done first doesn't win the challenge. Doing it is all you need to try and do. Each of us that completes the list by the end of the month gets the prize not just the first people done. I will be working slower and slower as my classes start up and DH arrives home. It is amazing what I can do when he is gone.

Do you remember the movie "War Games" from the 80's? The lesson there was, "the only way to win, is not to play." The lesson here is, "the only way to LOSE is not to play."

Don't let these overachievers :cheer2: :badpc: :wave2: get to you. January is 31 days long, and we're only on Day 5. Everything you do manage to get done that wouldn't otherwise, is a victory.

For me, getting clean is easy. It is keeping it clean all month that will be my challenge. I'm really consistant for about a week and then something will happen, usually I get a cold or flu, and than things go to, well that place in a handbasket and I have a very hard time getting back to straight and sparkly.
So keeping a daily listing and accounting is very good for me.

The more I clean, the worse I make it! LOL!

I am going to try very hard to tidy things up and work on swaps too. Tidy first than swaps...

I did pretty good today on my goals.

Goals for Friday:
1. Take car in for an oil change by 8:30 at the latest. (This will force me to get up and out early and start my day.)I left the house at 9. Not bad.
2. If it's not raining, walk for at least 30 minutes while I wait for the car to be done. Nope - I was too tired. :(
3. Target for upholstery cleaner, trunks, and something I'm forgetting.Yes, but I went to 4 different stores looking for trunks - no luck. Only plastic storage.
4. AC Moore for swap supplies. Done.
5. If AC Moore doesn't have what I want, go to not-so-local scrapbooking store for backup.Done.
6. Recycle all printer/fax cartridges. Nope - forgot them at home.
7. Place online photo order. Done.
8. Take GPS unit that I bought DH for Christmas out of the box and get it ready for him to use. Done - it's so much fun! I used it to get to LSS. I love it!
9. Clean living room set and then take picture of my finished room. Done!
10. Start on at least one swap.Yes - I finished one element for one swap.

No goals for the weekend - I'm working Sat-Sun-Mon. Maybe do some scrapping/swapping at night if I'm not too tired. Think about my Tuesday list.

I forgot about flex points!! It may take all 35 and then some. My SIL (my brother just got married in September) is out of town, and so my mom is fixing biscuits, sausage, and gravy for us, plus hash browns and fried eggs--my brother's favorite meal. I can skip the eggs & gravy, but I know I'll eat the other stuff!

Oh well, just another reason to accomplish that "exercise" goal!! :thumbsup2

DH decide to fix the toilet today and that took most of the day. We also went shopping for a new sink, I hate my sink. But the one I want is way too much (apron front) and what Lowes and HomeDepot carry didn't wow me. So we went to Hobby Lobby and $200 later I am all set for swapping!! THE WHOLE YEAR! HL had some of the Sizzix dies clearanced so I got a few, I'll list in the other thread. Also had some paper stacks that I have to go through so there could be some that end up in the Pizza Box. Some of the $$ was for models for the boys. But those go back as my oldest just couldn't see past the great drawings on the front. Once he opened one up and saw the work involved, he got really sad. Anyway, long story short, I am now stuck with a sink I hate for another few months. But that's okay. I'm gonna put some of my swapped items on the window sill and my sink will look so much better.

Tomorrow, just going to do light housecleaning and put away my bought finds.

This weekend, I made a lot of progress, partly because I had to get ready for company tonight.
*The scrap paper racks are all assembled, the cardstock and patterned paper organized, and stacked on the racks in the basement.
*The shelves are installed in my media cabinet and the DVD's are in it. I will need to unpack the rest of my CD's and a handful of videos when I get to the guest bedroom (where they're stored in the closet). They haven't been unpacked since this house was built three years ago!!
*The family room is organized and clean. I'm done with this room.
*The dining room, where I had too many scrap supplies, is clean and free of all scrap supplies and tools except for two tote bags that are in a corner where they can't be seen. I'm done with this room, too.
*I worked on my MNSSHP swap and will finish that up in the next two evenings, hopefully.
*Worked on designs and organized supplies for the rest of my early winter swaps. I have a plastic box for each of the upcoming swaps where I put paper and supplies for each. Made a list of supplies I need to buy in addition to what I have.
*It was a productive weekend!
*Now, I'm watching Desperate Housewives and The Apprentice on West Coast network stations and relaxing with a cup of high octane (too much caffeine)cinnamon spice tea.

I need to find new home for my printer and then the living room is officially done! I have fleeting moment of clarity when it came to organizing the cabinet next to the fireplace and everything just fell into place. Now my kitchen on the other hand looks like a bomb went off. Everything that didn't belong in the living room is now in there. I have a ton of baby stuff to get rid of, but for now it will go in the loft. That's DH's job tonight.

Make sure I get myself to school on time tomorrow to open the school store.
I need to finish glueing together the "house party" squares & toppers and I'm done with that.
Clean the downstairs(finished basement) of toys-on-floor-syndrome. And re-arrange that furniture so 9 kids can all see the TV.
More laundry. :laundy: Seriously, does this stuff mate or somthing?
Need to strip the beds this day.
Clean off the front porch so it looks reasonably presentable. I guess I should remove the Halloween stakes from the front garden too.

And if the toys don't win the battle, I'll try to work on some of my swaps.

OKay speaking of organization, that was one of my goals for the beginning of the year too. I have 10 6 gallons containers to place shoes that no longer have boxes with photographs inside. Started scrapbook organizing and boy do I need it (not that I hjave done anywork since the summer but....)

So here is where I need help. Does anyone have one of those carts that are shevles for paper and are enclosed in the case but when open the shelves "stand up." I saw one for clearance for 89.00 but want to make sure that It would really help and be used before I dish that kind of dough. Any thoughts?

Thank you!

So, I finished the page kits yesterday, cleaned the downstairs. Take that toys! I won!
Cleaned the fish tank. Have the whole main floor presentable. I am so ready for this house party on Saturday.

My son has strep. He will not be on antibotics for 24 hours before the party. Even if he was, my youngest most likely will be coming down with next, so he is still contagious. I was looking forward to being on Cartoon Network (sorry Disney). It would have been so much fun.

So I'll be dropping off the box of goodies to another mom from the cropping club and she will be the new hostess and the other kids will still be able to be picked to be on tv.

Guess I'll be working on my pet swap this weekend. Still need to have my laundry neutered. Know any good laundry doctors?

Hey-it was the Budget Board people's fault. I saw on the freebie thread that if you sign up at "house party" you could be picked to host one for the Cartoon Network World Premier of My Gym Partner's a Monkey The Big Field Trip made for TV Movie. Who would have thought they would actually pick someone who admitted to only having 5 families over?

It was pretty cool the stuff they sent. Plates, cups, napkins with Cartoon Network on them, animal print balloons, window decals, temporary tatoos and piccalos. Oh and the DVD with the movie and 4 other episodes on it. NOT my favorite cartoon they have, but it was still a neat idea.

If you want to see our party I'll PM you the web address and RSVP number to log on. You can see what my monkeys look like.

We were supposed to have the party tomorrow and then we would watch the show on Sunday and see if they put us on TV. The chances of that part are slimmer than being picked to host the party. But it was still a chance.

Here is where I am, ones completed are bolded.

Declutter:
- Recycle old magazines, flyers, mail order catalogs. Sort the rest.-I do this on a regular basis: new magazine in, old one out. Most flyers and catalogs don't even make it in the house. I am real good about getting rid of junk paper!
-Cull piles of photos- separate the good, the bad, and the ugly. Toss the bad. share duplicates with friends and family. Set aside the rest for now. This was my New Years Day project!
- Go through CD's, videos, books. Create piles for keepers and donation. Donations will be picked up next week!
- Paw through the stacks of games and toys; collect missing pieces and put them in appropriate boxes. Create stacks to donate, to toss, to store elsewhere and to keep in the family room. Donate what you can't use. Donations will be picked up next week!
[Start inventory list of model and serial numbers for your TV, stereo, VCR, DVD player, etc., for your homeowners insurance.

Clean:
-Vacuum and clean floor, walls, bookshelves, windowsills, blinds, and ceiling fans.
- Dry clean drapes, launder throws.
-Clean sofa base. Take off cushions and vacuum. Dig down the sides and under cushions for lost coins --found about $8!
Extra days after New Year's that I didn't have to work helped me get this done!

Maintain:
-Choose a drawer or find a basket to hold remotes. I got a "fancy" box to put them in that sits on the coffee table.
-Buy acid free photo boxes for pictures. Spend 1/2 an hour a week arranging. Got a box for XMAS. Need to organize the pictures--probably next weekend as this one is busy.
- Designate a basket or box to hold on-loan tapes, books, videos. Write return dates on the calendar. I also tape checkout slips by the calendar.
-Initiate weekly 5 minute cleanups with family members to keep things moving toward their designated spaces. Working on this one! My son likes to "Nest" and hubby leaves shoes all over!
Once organized take a photo or videotape of the room to keep with your home inventory list. Took photos, need to get a tape for a new video--old one is really out of date as we gotten rid of stuff, gotten new, rearranged.

Well, we had the party after all. The other mom's weren't as concerned about getting sick as I thought. Since on of the boys is in my DS class, he has already been exposed to the germs and the other family has it going around in their extended family so they were pretty sure if they were going to get, they would already have it.

It turned out to be lots of fun. The children had a blast. The cartoon was pretty funny. The best part was when a bunch of the animal kids fell of a cliff and the one giraffe girl says "Well, all my friends jumped off a cliff, I better do it too" and promptly jumped off the cliff. That was hilarious! :lmao:
The warthog lady does the word c-r-a-p. But that is the only bad word said in the cartoon.

So if you watch the show on cartoon network at 7pm and see some still photos from Ohio, it might be us.

Anyway, I got everything cleaned up from the party, laundry is in and some ready to be put away. Have to make a trip to buy parts so my DS8 can make a simple machine for class. Who thinks up these things? :confused3 My DH is out in the garage right now trying to figure out what parts he needs to make this fish feeder that uses a pulley, an inclinded plane, screw, a wheel & axle, and a lever. Than after they make this thing, DS has to write a report on it. The report part I understand. But really, to have to shell out $$$ so my DS doesn't get a failing grade seems a little out there. Enough of my whining.

Hope everyone has a happy Sunday!!:flower3:

You should be able to use things around the house for most of the simple machines, unless the teacher is making them use new things. Pulleys are the main machine you don't find all over the house.

Than after they make this thing, DS has to write a report on it. The report part I understand. But really, to have to shell out $$$ so my DS doesn't get a failing grade seems a little out there. Enough of my whining.

Hope everyone has a happy Sunday!!:flower3:

I was tired of needing a owners manual/instruction book for something and having to run up or down stairs, so I took a notebook and sheet protectors and have put the manuals/books for items on each floor in them. That way if we need the manual for the vcr in the basement, it is there! I also wrote the serial number on the manual/book. I put the notebooks in a drawer or in a corner of the bookcase so it isn't so obvious, but we know where it is.

Restarted Pet Swap elements. Hope to work on those while little guy is in preschool. I'll grocery shop tomorrow.
Need to dust the ceiling fans again. Might as well stay on top of this. Every three weeks seems doable.
Take cushions off couch and move it before hoovering the floor (after dusting the fan :) )

Want to hear something funny? It's really funny that you mention this now. Apparently I did this at one point (most likely after reading some organizational magazine article telling me to do so) but I only have a vague recollection of doing it. It was while cleaning out a bookcase for this task that I found that binder. Of course half the stuff in there is stuff we no longer own and who knows where the new instruction manuals are, but if I ever find them maybe I can keep that binder up to date!

Well I almost finished my question, I'm actually 20 words over the limit so I need to trim down one night. Right now I'm 431 words into the 2000 limit monster, still got plenty to go on about, just have no idea if it's what I'm supposed to be writing :(

Not doing much in terms of other tasks today as exam work needs to take priority (deadline is next fri but I don't want to push it, especially as one of my bridesmaids is hoping to come over for a day of girl talk.) Plan is to keep the desk as clear as possible, so not happening with all my research papers scattered right now and do some exercise (done some steps on OH's stepper whilst I waited for the computer to load - trust me, that's a long time!) If I get chance I might clear the dining table.

Wow Buffy, good call. I did go up to my room to work on my pet swap. I got the brilliant idea to tie ribbon around bone shaped paperclips. It is taking forever to do this. It seemed so simple on the prototype.

I did have to go pick up DS from school. They had early dismissal today. So now I'm back on the naughty mat and will not say the bad word anymore.
