Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Thanks to everyone for all the nice words. I don't really do much around here. I actually think of it as an honor and a privilege to be associated with such a fine group of folks  I got to showoff my bling collection at Xmas and would never have made it through any of those races without all of you! :grouphug:

Today's run is entitled "Dancing with Squirrels" or "Gremlins Got Garmin"...you choose. I did run with orthotics (not as exciting as on the TM). First mile seemed okay (11:41), second was a bit slow (12:50), third (6.56)...????. Garmin musta thought I was running with Christa or something. Then mile 4 came in at 16+. I get almost home, look at garmin to see how much further til 5 miles...and it says 4.45 miles.....WHAT?????? So no clue as to pace today.

And I almost smushed a squirrel. He was on the sidewalk, stood there trying to decide which way to go as I was coming, went one way, then stopped dead in front of me and turned around. I nearly tripped over both of us trying not to step on the poor thing.

Colleen...I was :lmao: over your dream. Sorry to have figured so prominently in it. It doesn't look like we'll be needing to sport the 'homeless' look for this race, but Howard is the guy who pointed out last year that I forgot to put my chip on my shoe

Terri...I'm nervous this year, too, and have no idea why. I'm less nervous about the WISH meets this year....last year, I was meeting most everyone for the first time!

Pat...s'ok...I'll take the rap for the weather this year ;) I love the temp forecast, but would pay money if WDW can promise no humidity. We're looking at record highs in the low 80s this weekend, but there should be a little cold front that gets us back to normal before marathon weekend.

Kristi...good luck on that XT!

Lynnda...glad to see you're feeling better!

Mel...:wizard: for the boy!

Lynne...congrats on honor society and your HI rotation! I can't complain too much about rotations...I didn't get to go to HI, but all mine were around here.

Heather...pinch for ya! Glad your stress test went ok!

I did have a marathon dream last night but it was totally bizarre. We've spent the past week watching Star Trek Voyager reruns recorded from the Spike marathon so my marathon dream involved the Borg  So now y'all know one of my other deep dark secrets...I watched a lot of Star Trek growing up :rolleyes1

Just one question for everyone: are y'all ready to do this thing?

I missed out on the beginning
So this is all history
But here is the story
As it was told to me.

A lady named karebear,
Back in 2004,
Posted an innocent question
On the WISH board.

She wanted to know
Would folks join in her quest
To walk the WDW half.
Surely this was a jest!

But WISH folks signed on
Even some that we know
Lily, Heather and Sunny
Joined in for the show.

Their enthusiasm was infectious
As they went to the race.
They were inspirations to all
Who continue in their place.

Now the WISH team sets out
On its third year of fun.
It’s grown and evolved
From what was begun.

We are walkers and runners
And triathletes.
We’ve talked about everything
From our heads to our feet.

New shoes, new clothes
New gear to report.
There’s always something to buy
For our chosen ‘free’ sport.

We did find there’s one thing
Some can go without.
“Go Commando or Go Home”
About half of us shout.

We’ve had a new baby this year
And two more that we’ll meet.
We’ve also found new characters...
Iceman, Batman and good ‘ol ZB.

But what continues to amaze me
That hasn’t changed yet
Is how well we have gelled as a team
On the ‘net.

We’re separated by distance,
Many miles for most.
Yet we get closer and closer
With each little post.

You guys are the best!
A true racing TEAM.
With support and advice,
It’s like an amazing dream.

So it’s almost here
Our annual event.
The ressies are made,
The money is spent.

I look forward to seeing everyone.
The weekend’s almost here!
And hey, by the way,
Who’s ready to train for next year?

I've been in lurking mode for weeks now, but before everyone is packed and on the road/plane I just want to say GOOD LUCK to all who are headed to WDW for the full and the half. I'll be there in spirit with all of you, and will be checking the boards faithfully to see how everyone does. It's been so much fun listening in through all the ups and downs of training, and I know everyone will do great! :goodvibes

Mel - The poem is amazing!

Dave - Have an extra special time with the princesses. Hope the birthday celebration is out of this world!

5. Draft behind Calcio or Thunder Matt during the Marathon.

I will spot you with my secret pair of eyes in the back of my head and bob and weave!

Got in my last 9 miler LR today, but DW had to skip hers due to major soreness from snowboarding yesterday (yeah I know we were asking for an injury there, but we got lucky). So the furthest she went is 8 nonstop, but she's still confident that all the crowds and fellow WISH scream teamers on the side of the road will let her finish the full 13. I'm pretty sore, and todays pace was only 9:45mpm ish, so we'll see if 10mpm is still workable come next Sunday. Thinking I'll take 3 days rest, then run maybe 2mi, then 3 more days rest before the race.

We're almost there! :scared1:

Let's talk weather.............OH MY, IT WILL BE HOT!!!!

I am going to have to rethink everything! I was always thinking another 35 degree start like last year, but now a 60 degree start. I am going to melt!! I spoke to a friend who ran it 2 years ago when it was hot and she was hoping for a 4:45 finish time and she ended up 5:30!

Lily, can you remember how hot it was 2 years ago?

ColleenYes, I DO. I did not enjoy the heat it much. It was my first ever half and I am hoping that had a lot to do with things. I really liked last year...perfect. I am trained up 2 years since and if I must, I can walk it out. I will be drenched. As Christa, I sweat and tons. So, I will be carrying a water bottle then to get me along I'm thinking. Have to ponder this some. I know they have plenty of water stations, just not sure if I want to trust it. I think one 8 oz. bottle on the belt will make me feel secure, but the added weight may not. I've got a sleeveless WISH shirt and that will get me through the full. It's airy, I just need to be prepared for heat. I've got the cold weather prepped.

The poem is great!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Thunder, thunder, thunderation!
We're the WISH group delegation.
When we move with determination,
We create a Great! sensation!

LOL I totally forgot to mention, DW and I are out here in Cali visiting the parents for Xmas/New Years, and what better way to ring in 2007 than being at the happiest place on earth.

I was there on 12/31 99/00/01/02/03/04 before finally missing a year in 05 when visiting DW in London, but making it 7 out of 8 this year! And for the first time, I won't be the only one with no one to plant a big wet one on! :rotfl2:

Great poem Mel!

Well, finally I got to get a workout in after being sick. I was afraid how rotten I would feel and how much stamina I lost. It wasn't too bad. I did a
5K this morning in 41:36. That's under 14 mpm pace, so I was pleases. Gotta stay ahead of the sweepers.

My iPod battery died after the first mile. So after that I just focused on my steps during the run portion. I did w4/r2 and w4/r3 intervals. Just focusing on the steps kept my mind occupied, so I wasn't worried about how far i was going. If I can stay focused like that next weekend I might be ok.

I won't be checking the boards until later tonight. Gonna celebrate the last night of the year with an Eagles division title! :goodvibes

Happy New Year everybody!

Mel...that is an amazing poem!!

After thinking about the anticipated temperature for the races, I think I will carry a water bottle or 2 with me. Especially since I havent gotten any warm weather training in lately, I think the extra weight will be justified with the ability to take a drink whenever I need to. And I can always refill the bottles at the water stations if I need to.

You'd think living in the desert would have me ready for a warm marathon, but I have 12 inches of snow in my front yard! I know that is nothing for some of you guys, but it is a record amount down here! Heck, the city shuts down on an inch of snow. No long runs for me this weekend. My Kayano's didnt come with the optional snowshoe attachment :lmao: .

Leave for the World on Wednesday!! Can't wait! :woohoo:

Although I am registered for the 1/2, we decided early on this year that making another trip to WDW for the 1/2 was just going to be impossible. I think with making that decision, it also allowed me to let go of all my good senses where eating and exercising was concerned. I also ended up not visiting the WISH board and have missed out on so much.

With that being said, I wanted to stop by and tell you all that I will be thinking of each and every one of you. I know you all will do great and I'll be watching and reading what everyone has to say about their experience.

The poem was great!!!

Keep up the great work everyone, have a wonderful beginning to 2007. No resolutions for me as some do, but I can say that I am thankful to be getting back in gear to get back in shape and lose this extra weight.

Have a wonderful, safe trip!!!

Hi Team,

Sorry I didn't get to post for the past couple of days, I did work on the ellipitical last night - - diff set at 3, for 30 minutes.....felt pretty good. Yesterday, I was actually supposed to do work with my personal trainer but when I went to try and use the ATM it wouldn't take my card -- so, I had run to another machine and it wouldn't work there -- it said it was an invalid card and to contact my financial institution......I was so scared!

Anyhow, after going to two banks I finally called my bank (I was on hold for about a half hour)....turns out the strip on my card was no longer working they will be sending me a new one. Whew thank god! I had all kinds of things running through my head.

So I have rescheduled my training session....my trainer and I will be getting together tomorrow morning.

Still nervous about marathon weekend -- but I will do my best! Don't get me wrong --- I'm really excited too!

Tammy, thank you for being our cheerleader! It is great to hear from you. Sorry you won't be there with us. Stop by the walking/running thread more often. We're here for you as you work your way onward and downward.

Paul, safe traveling. Wow! 12 inches of snow for you. We've had fantastic training weather on the North Coast. My ITB issue has caused me to not take complete advantage of it, but it is great to train. Your comment solidified that I will take a bottle with me and refill along the route if needed.

Matt, enjoy your celebration!

Molli, I think there are gels being distributed along the course. I'll go back and check my program. Haven't noticed the neck thing. Maybe cutting it some would be the answer. I think Sunny did that last year?

Happy celebrations to all if I don't get back here.

Based on last year, they gave Cliff packets out around Animal Kingdom. There were no powergel or gu spots on the course. Since Cliff is the sponsor again, I would guess it will be about the same this year.

I did 8 miles this morning, and it felt great! I got some blisters on my heels so I will have to make some sock changes to take care of that. I will also find some second skin to bring with me. I am determined to wear comfortable shoes to work this week (if I only had some). Do you think anyone would notice if I wore Crocs with my suits? I guess if anyone said anything about it, I could just snap at them and say "Hey, I'm running a marathon on Sunday. What are you doing with your life, loser?!" On second thought, maybe I should just shut my office door and stay away from people as much as possible during this taper madness. :lmao:

Happy New Year everyone!

I looked in the guide, and here's what it says:

Marathon
22 beverage stations will be set up along the course offering Dasana Water and PowerAde. There will be four food stops. Oranges and candy at Mile 13.2, CLIF SHOTS at Mile 16, bananas at Mile 19, and candy at Mile 23. There will also be sponges at Mile 17.5.

Half-Marathon
Nine beverage stations will be setup along the course offering Dasani Water and PowerAde. (On the map it looks like Miles 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 12 and Finish). Two food stops: bananas and candy at Mile 6.3 and CLIF SHOTS at mile 10.1.

This is my first half-marathon and I'm really new to running. I've been running in Nike AirMax180 shoes for the last few months and I've logged just about 180 miles on 'em.

I'm wondering if I should buy new shoes today, and run with them a couple times this week, to use in the half-marathon on Saturday, or if I should just continue to run in these?

I'm still about 20-30 lbs overweight, so I don't know if shoes wear down faster or not.

What's my safest bet?

Chris

PS: Ran 5 miles today in light rain and feel great. Strange dreams the last couple of nights though.

Your shoes are good until about 300-500 miles logged (lower end is better to replace).

You want your race day shoes to have roughly 100 miles logged (something like that).....it is really too late now to get new shoes unless absolutely essential (like you ruined your current shoes).

Your mileage is low enough that even with the extra weight--your shoes will be fine for race day.

Yes They Hand Out Gu or Some Other Energy Gel

During last year's marathon the volunteers did hand out Gu or something else. The only stop I remember specifically where I got it was the food and water stop near the waste water treatment plant (nice smell :scared1: ) before you enter the Animal Kingdom. But I remember getting 4 or 5 Gu packets over the course of the marathon. This was the first time I ever used the stuff and it seemed to help. During my long training runs this fall I have used it and with this larger sample size I am absolutely certain that my legs are stronger after using it.

I recall the first stop where you can expect to find it is the one just past the ticket and transport center, as you run under the monorail. This is about mile 9.5 on the course. I plan to carry one Gu pack and take it with water at the mile 4 stop.

Chris

Your current shoes have plenty of miles in them and are well broken in. It wouldn't change now unless you saw a place where they are breaking down.

One more time . . . PLEASE COOL DOWN NEXT SUNDAY.

hey thanks for the info -- i'm in the 1/2 so one CLIF shot isn't quite enough for me - i can't stand eating while i'm walking. i tried sport beans and didn't like the eating thing. anyhoo -- i'll be sure to pick up some GU, never had a Clif shot but i'm sure they are similar

and starting tomorrow for me -- NO MORE alkiehol (hiccup) or white sugar! i gotta detox!

love the poem!! how fun!!!! i remember that little ole' thread by karebear and she wouldn't never had any inkling it would evolve into this AWESOMENESS!! me either!

i must admit i'm dreading the course change, when i last did the 1/2 it was the full and 1/2 together, old course. all i keep thinking of is me and 25,000 of my closest friends in eery silence on the highway portion of the route. anyone else remember that? there were soooo many people and all i could hear were feet pounding. i'll miss the World Showcase portion -- do we get enough through epcot? i want good pictures!!

Mel-- What a wonderful poem! Thank you:grouphug:

I'll be wearing shoes that aren't broken in:scared1: As of today they have 13 miles on them. It wasn't the plan... As for the Cliff shots; I hated them and had a terrible time opening them. I usually use accelerade or GU and never have a problem opening either of them. Last year I was loaded down with a fuel belt with 6 bottles and only used one. I planned on going beltless this year but with this HORRENDOUS heat forecast I might have to reconsider carrying some fluid. After my cookie stupor, I am only comfortable being seen in long black running pants so my ego is going to have to take a major nose dive for this stupid heat!

Sunny

I drank at every water stop and had all my water finished at mile 20. I was desperate for something, water, powerade, powergel, around mile 23. I got excited when I saw they were handing out candy. It was such a let down when the candy was chocolate kisses...:sad2: there was no way in a million years that my stomach would have taken that!:scared:

I too will be carrying water and gels with me.

Craig, for some reason I only remember one gel stop at mile 16ish (right before AK).

No plans for tonight as I really want to get rest and get healthy from my sickness last week. Unfortunately, I am really getting a little stir crazy with this taper. Went out today for an easy 4 miler in the rain and 49 degrees. Beautiful running weather!:)

Hey guys......

I apologize for not being around lately. I'm afraid I have some bad news....

I'm not going to be able to run the marathon this year. :sad1:

Christmas night I started to feel pretty bad-- mainly flu-like symptoms. A couple of days later I went to the doctor because I still wasn't better and I had the races coming up. On Friday, I got the test results back--- I've got mono. :sad1: :headache: (No, I haven't been making out with anyone.... sadly.....)

Anyhow, the doctor said I need to avoid exersice for the next three weeks. (Something about my spleen... which apparently I need....) There's no way he'll clear me to run and, although I'm probably no longer contagious, he thinks it's best if I stay close to home. :sad1:

I don't really feel that bad anymore, but the doc really, really seems worried about this spleen thing, so I'm going to have to skip the trip.

I am trying really, really hard not to let this get me down, but it's very, very hard. But I can tell you this-- I'm not going anywhere and I'm going to do everything in my power to run Goofy in '08. :woohoo:

I want everyone to go out there and have a fabulous time. I want good stories and race reports when you get back! And thanks again for all the support during training this year..... let's do it again in '07-- same time, same place. ;)

I hope everyone has a Happy and Safe New Years! Let's Go Terps and Go Blue!

Take care,
Kevin :earsboy:

Oh Kevin, I am so sorry! But, yes, your doctor is correct to be concerned about over-exertion. My DD7 had mono when she was 4 and they were really concerned about her spleen as well. They gave here steroids to reduce the inflammation in her spleen. She wasn't herself for 6-8 weeks. Maybe Lynne or Mel could explain what happens with mono and the spleen.

I have no doubt you will be going Goofy in 08!

Mel - Thank you so very much for the poem:grouphug: . It is truly wonderful.

Kevin - That is terrible news!! Please take care of yourself and know you'll be there is spirit. We will miss you:hug: .

Heather - Congrats on the great 8 today:cool1: . I say go with the crocs for sure this week. I've already warned my boss I'd be a bit manic and annoying this week:rotfl2: .

Tammy - Sorry you won't be making it this time around.

I am the only wierdo who likes the temps a bit warm. I preferred WDW '05 over WDW '06. I guess it's because I mainly train indoors and I HATE being cold. I am bummed I can't wear tights but am thrilled I won't have a suitcase full of throwaways either.

I had a great 8 miler today also and I am busy packing. Travel safe to all this week. We're outta here on Thursday and the anticipation is killing me!!

Good evening everyone!

I ran 4 uneventful and easy miles on the TM today. No more running until Saturday!

Kevin - Sorry you won't be able to make it, but listen to the docs and take care of yourself.

Heather and Sara - great job on your runs today.

To everyone - Happy New Year!

Colleen - I agree - TOO HOT! I melt in the heat. :scared:

Kevin - Oh, man! I'm so sorry this is not working out for you this year. Your health definitely comes first.

Well, I have some disappointing news of my own. I guess you can say I got some xtraining in today. A water line stopped up causing our toilet to leak water - gushing water. The bathtub also started to fill up and overflow....into the bathroom, part of the kitchen, my office, master bedroom and most of the main hallway. We've been ripping out the carpet and taking out the pad. It's a mess. Luckily, my furniture is ok, I think. I'm taking a little bit of a break right now but I've got to get moving here in a minute.
Do you know how much a plumber cost on NYE? Hopefully, you'll never have to find out. :sad2:

Oh, no, Kevin! That's just awful! :grouphug: I was looking forward to meeting you IRL this year. But yes, stay home and take care of yourself. When spleen's get mono, they get irritable and inflamed and may enlarge, which increases the risk of rupture. A ruptured spleen is a rare event even with mono, but I'm sure your doc doesn't want to tempt it.

Sara...you're not the only warm weather weirdo :thumbsup2 I've already packed a sweatshirt to wear in the corrals before race start. It's going to be a LOT easier to get up on race morning when it's not so doggone cold.

Is there anything y'all will need for the full being that the weather's going to be so warm? We'll be at Beach Club, between miles 24 and 25 and could have a mini WISH team aid station. Looks like there will be water at 24 and again at 25, but the last food stop is at mile 23 with candy. I have plenty of Clif Bloks, a couple packs of sports beans...if anyone thinks they'll need it, I can stock up on some GU too.

Happy New Year everyone!

Kevin- PD that you get well soon! :wizard: :wizard: We will miss you, but I will see you next summer in Michigan.

I found a lime green running bra at Target today. I didn't buy it, but I laughed thinking about if it gets too hot on Sunday, I could take off my shirt and still show my WISH colors. :rotfl:

Kevin,

So sorry to hear your news. Remember that there will always be other races, but you only get one spleen. Best wishes for a full recovery.

I remember last year that they had just ran out of Hershey's kisses at MGM right before we got there. Lots of small silver wrappers all over the ground, but none left for us! I really wasnt in a chocolate mood at that time anyway.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

hey thanks for the info -- i'm in the 1/2 so one CLIF shot isn't quite enough for me - i can't stand eating while i'm walking. i tried sport beans and didn't like the eating thing. anyhoo -- i'll be sure to pick up some GU, never had a Clif shot but i'm sure they are similar
....

i'll miss the World Showcase portion -- do we get enough through epcot? i want good pictures!!

Clif shots are similar in principle--but the taste is entirely different. Personally I find them disgusting.

As far as EPCOT--you run in to the right of Spaceship earth--under the lighted archway, then up and around the christmas tree and back around to the opposite side of SE out a side cast member exit and onto the finish line.

Basically you run up to the lagoon (almost) and back.

Kevin, I am so sorry about your medical news. You seem to be taking it well :(. I remember crying hysterically in PT last year when my therapist refused to clear me for the full. I did get cleared for the half--but sobbed and sobbed.

Stay well and take care! Are you still planning on some low key cheering, or is this a complete trip cancellation?

I had a team in training teammate last year...she goes to my church. She LOVES LOVES LOVES running in the heat. We're not talking the forecasted race day temps....we're talking Florida heat and humidity in AUGUST!!! She just loves it. I cannot remember what country in Central/South America she was from. But it was reminiscent of home and she would run out in the noon day sun like it was nothing.

Mel - What can I say about the poem? I laughed and cried! I loved it...Thanks for all you do.

As for gels on the course...I get confused on what year they do what so I am not any help. I carried my own last year...4 to be exact and took them all.
Are they having the red and blue start for the marathon this year too? (I know I could look, but that would be too easy.) Someone was asking about where we went in EPCOT...this will be different for people if they have both the starts....
I found a lime green running bra at Target today. I didn't buy it, but I laughed thinking about if it gets too hot on Sunday, I could take off my shirt and still show my WISH colors.

Ok, I've been lurking on this thread ever since mouseskywalker (Dave) invited me to join...finally thought I would post something :)

Christa - there are red and blue starts for the marathon, but that's about all I can tell you, seeing as this is my first Disney marathon (and marathon, at that!) :)

I posted a question about race day apparel earlier, but that was before I knew the weather was going to be so warm. I am wondering if a short sleeve dri-fit top will be appropriate. Usually I run in a long bra top/compression tank thing, but I'm thinking I might need more coverage...perhaps a short sleeve top? I would like to wear a black top (since I have a pink running skirt), but am afraid that will be too hot by the finish.

Hi Everyone -

Happy New Year! 3 more days until I leave for WDW!! I can not believe it is here already!

Kevin - I am so incredibly sorry that you can not go to the marathon. Wow, I can not imagine how you feel right now. I have however, had mono. I KNOW how incredibly tough even day to day tasks can be with mono so I can not even imagine training for a marathon or running a marathon with it. Take care of yourself and spend your days imaging how much stronger you will be when you are training without mono! My heart goes out to you.

Now, for a little good news: I more than made my fundraising goal!! I almost doubled my original goal!! Thanks to lots and lots of people who gave me $10 and $20 donations, I managed to do a respectable job of honoring my dad. If the fundraising has ever intimidated anyone, I am here to tell you that it was not difficult at all. America is full of amazingly generous people, you just have to tell them what you are doing and they smile as they donate.

I better go run in my new black shorts, looks like I will be wearing them on Sunday. This Sunday!!! Wow.

Oh and WAR EAGLE!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We leave on Thursday, so I am frantically pulling out shorts and things to bring along. I have 2 long and stressful work days coming up before we take off.

My Wisconsin Badgers are in Orlando right now playing the Capital One Bowl. I wish it would have been a week later so I could have gone and hung out with a bunch of crazy cheeseheads!!!

Now for me, I ran my 5 on Saturday, cleaned the house yesterday and today I need to get back on the treadmill (ice outside and too lazy to go to the Y which may not even be open). I think I am tapering too much because I have no energy to run anymore, I say that I am saving my strength but really I am just being lazy.

Kevin - I am so sorry you can't be at the Marathon. I was so looking forward to meeting the speedy zebra bum. Take care of yourself and maybe we can meet up at another race.

As for race gear, I have decided that I am still going to wear my tights with the sleeveless WISH shirt. I ran the 4th of July 5K in pants and it was 90 degrees. Yes I was hot, but I made it through. I just don't want to have any rub problems that my current shorts give me, and no time to break in new shorts. I will just have to down extra water.

Kevin, Soooo sorry to hear about the mono. Are you sure it wasn't from the kissing? You are right to stay home but it will be tough. The spleen, although you can live without it, is esential in the production of antibodies (TO FIGHT INFECTIONS) and storage of red blood cells. If the spleen ruptures - which can occur with prolonged exercise like running a marathon or half - a person can and will bleed to death rapidly if surgical treatment (a splenectomy - removal of the spleen) is not done very quickly. So, continue to be smart, take care and there will be races to run in the future. See you in '08. By the way, I am an RN, and have cared for a number of splenectomy patients in the past, in case you did not know already.

One more thing, I really am starting to get nervous now. Everytime I check the weather the temp goes up and I am the master of calf cramps right around 20 miles when things heat up. Extreme hydration and slower times are in my future unless it is cooler than expected.

I would like to wear a black top (since I have a pink running skirt), but am afraid that will be too hot by the finish.I read that a couple years before my first WDW experience there were ladies who were running in their jog bras since it was quite warm/hot, at the time I guess it raised a few eyebrows but no one tossed the ladies from the event. Now women's running apparel is more widely accepted. That said, I wouldn't be caught outside my house TM in my jog bra...no body to go with it. I'm thinking the long bra top/compression tank thing will be quite appropriate if the weather is cooperative. My design will be opposite if it is warmer, I've got the sleeveless WISH shirt that is loose fit and will have my jog bra and lots of hopefully breeze space as I trek. (must cover up the old lady flab) Be cool...

Cecilia, great job on the fundraising.

On a related note, it seems as if the only commercial running on tv right now is that stupid Zicam one...you know, the one with the guy who starts out saying, "A week before I was supposed to run the NYC Marathon, I came down with a cold/flu..." Every time I see it I'm like, "Aaaagh - turn the channel!" Here's to everyone staying healthy before the race!

Hi everyone and happy new year!

Kevin -- I am so sorry you won't be joining us next weekend. I really hope you are feeling better and stronger. Please give your body a chance to recover. Frankly, mono doesn't surprise me at all, considering all you have been managing for the past several months. Looks like your body finally sent a message loud and clear that you have to slow down and take care of yourself. We will look forward to sharing the training experience with you once you are feeling better and we'll all be together in WDW in January 2008. pixiedust:

Mel -- The poem is wonderful! It made me cry! How many more talents do you have that we don't know about? ;)

Heather -- I am so with you! I am tremendously relieved that I don't have to do the 12 block round trip walking to court any day this week and I don't have to wear heels at all. :woohoo: I was actually fantasizing about wearing my crocs, but have been content to be in stocking feet whenever possible. :)

Susie -- I am so sorry you spent your new year's eve day dealing with an overflow. I hope it is all under control now. Be sure to check with your homeowner's insurance to see if the damage is covered.

Well, I'm not surprised, but definitely disappointed that I haven't gotten any kind of workout in recently. The last workouts I had were 60 minutes on a bike last Tuesday night and the cardiopulmonary stress test Wednesday morning. I thought I'd get something in yesterday or today, but came down with some kind of flu-like symptoms yesterday. The kind where your body aches and you have the horrible sick headache. UGH! Feeling better today. I'll be at work until at least 8 tonight but will get to bed early so I can go to the gym tomorrow morning. Howard is picking up my Azmacort refill and I'll be back on that tonight so hopefully it will be in my system enough by this weekend.

I hope all our WISHers who are already in the "world" are having a fabulous time. :)

Can't wait to see everone in just a little more than 4 days! OMG! I HAVE to pack!

Kevin - I am so sorry that we won't be seeing you in WDW for the race. Please take the time to get back to 100%. We will see you in 2008! Your presence on the boards has been great. I look forward to getting to know you better through this forum and in WDW next year. Take care!

Cecilia- Thank you for the link and comments on last week's thread. I printed out wrist bands for the half (2:30 finish time) and the Marathon (4:30 finish time). The 2:30 time for the half is slower that I've ever done one (roughly a 11:27 pace); it is my goal to take it easy on Saturday since I must be Goofy by running the Marathon on Sunday.

BTW ~ Just for the record, I will personally check each and every pair of running shoes for a race chip. If it appears I am being rude by not looking everyone in the eye, you'll know what I'm doing.

Also.. if Matt and I were running behind the ladies (in the dream), I am sure we had a very good reason to. :rolleyes1 :flower3:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

The holidays have been absolutely insane, so I have not gotten much training in over the last few weeks. I guess it was a real taper. We are now at WDW & the kids are down at POP Century pool, so I am sneaking a quick note in. As this is my 1st marathon, reality is setting in & I'm getting very nervous about going the distance. I'm sure with the higher temperatures, my turtle pace will become even slower. But you meet some of the greatest people in the 15-16 min. pace group. We are gonna make it together.:thumbsup2 See ya soon.

Back from DL, and boy am I drained! Left at 6:15am PST for the park (after staying up til 1am the night before conveniently), didn't get back to the car til around 1:30am, slept in spurts in the parking lot and at the airport til around 4am when we checked in for our 6:45am flight, slept randomly til boarding and while in the air, transferred through DFW, landed in Mobile, and drove the rest of the 90 min or so home, finally getting here around 4pm CST.

Phew! :headache: I think I'm gonna go ahead and do nothing at all (outside of work) til I leave Friday afternoon or evening depending on when I get off work...

Hey guys, just checking in to let you know that we're still here. We just got back from MI tonight, and we wrote out a "to-do" list on the way home. It's a looooong list. :sad2: Add me to the list of people who think this marathon just sort of snuck up on us.

Kevin--I am soooooo sorry to hear about your disappointing news. I know you must be crushed. We were all looking so forward to meeting you. Take it easy, and as everyone else has said, we'll all be there in Jan 2008. Just know that you'll be there with us this weekend in spirit, and I'm sure the zebra butt comments will come up once or twice at the WISH dinner Friday night.

Temps of 85 degrees on Sunday????? :scared1: I finally realized that it would be shorts and a singlet in that weather instead of a short sleeve shirt, and then I realized that I didn't have any newer singlets that are still "race-worthy." So......a quick trip to Champs Sporting Goods web site, and I now have two singlets shipping next day air tomorrow. Yeah, that was sort of expensive. I know, I'm breaking the cardinal rule of wearing new clothes for the marathon, but I am going to try to get my last two 4 mile runs in wearing the new shirts. I guess we'll see what happens.

Good luck to everyone this final week, and safe travels. Not too much longer now....

Instead of a training taper, I've kinda had a training disintegration:confused3 .

On Sunday, December 10, we had a relatively beautiful day here in Ohio. The temperature was up to about 50, dramatically higher than the high 20's and low 30's we had been having. I left my house to do a 9 mile LR. Unfortunatley, luck was not on my side that morning. About 3 miles into my run, I hit an ice spot on the sidewalk in such a way that I went down, hard. I hit my right cheek/temple directly on the cement side walk. To keep this story from getting too long, I broke the bone on the right side of my face. I had surgery almost 2 weeks ago, and everything went fine. They patched me up with 2 small titanium plates, and the stitches have been removed. Most of the swelling is gone, and I am cleared to run this weekend.

And here's my BUT (as Pee Wee Herman used to say, "there's always a big BUT"), but I haven't trained since Dec 10 (and that was only 3 miles). At this point, I've resigned to the fact that I'm going to walk and run, not just run this 1/2M, but I don't know if I should try to get some training in this week , or am I better off just letting it go. ( I'm just so glad that I ran my first 1/2M back in October, so that at least I know that I can do it.)

What do you think? Squeek in a little last minute training, or go into the 1/2M having not trained in almost a month.

OOOHHHH NO! Glad you are OK though! See my above post for the answer to your training question.

OK! I have a question! With the heat...I have already said that I MAY NOT wear my WISH shirt. But I am really torn!
I have really wanted to wear it so I could be identified as a WISH team member. I got it for the marathon. But then I think it may not be worth being uncomfortable in it....but then I may not be uncomfortable.
SO WHAT SHOULD I DO???:confused3

Christa, I know you don't need my advice, since you are way more experienced with marathon weather than I, but I would forego the WISH shirt and wear something more comfortable for the conditions. Is it a long sleeve shirt or short sleeve? If it's LS, I would definitely leave it at home. If it's SS, it's up to you, but it's starting to look like singlet weather (see my above post for my last minute singlet dilemna :) ).

Don't worry about having to wear the WISH shirt to show you're part of the WISH team. We'll all recognize you on the course, and better yet, you'll definitely be able to see all the WISH team supporters along the course wearing their shirts and cheering you on.

Christa - I got some lime green polyester at a fabric store and made a fake buff (see buffusa.com site) I love the buffs but couldn't get one in time for DW. I am going to start w/ a hat and probably change to head band or ponytail holder by end of the race. Also, I'm wearing my WISH socks and im going to try to get down to target (2 towns south) and get a lime green sports bra (if they have them) That is my "it's too hot for my wish shirt" plan.

Denny - You would have started tapering one week later anyway. I say do no more. I believe sara wisely told us last year that it is better to be under trained than overtrained. Good luck w/ your decision.

Or I may go with what I always wear.....me on theleft with the blue hat. This is what I ALWAYS wear when it is hot....but I may put my other shorts (that really don't match) with it b/c they are better running shorts.

I just returned from a fun day of shopping and found the Asic Kayano II's at Scheels in the clearance area for only $69.00 for a $135 pair of shoes that is totally awesome :cool1:

I was told by the shoe clerk that Asic will be coming out with a new version of the Kayano in the next few months but this price was just too good to pass up :thumbsup2

Kevin - That is horrible news :sad1: take care of yourself! I also won't be going to WDW for 2007 again due to injury. 2008 is going to be our year :thumbsup2

Cam - If your not feeling well PLEASE forgo the training and just hydrate and get some rest. You are trained and ready to go :goodvibes

Everyone - Although I won't be with you this year IRL I'll be thinking of each of you and WISHing you to the finish line. As soon as you all get a chance PLEASE check back and let all of the ones still here know how it goes. I can't wait to "read" all about it. By best to each and everyone one of you :goodvibes

For those of you who want to still sport W.I.S.H. Team colors, Contact Race Ready. They have Lime Green singlets and they will be at the Expo. Check out their website: http://raceready.com/index.html

E-mail them and they could probably bring what you need to the Expo.

Their singlets are really soft material, and probably wouldn't create too big of a problem for wearing without "testing out". But men be advised, they will wear away at you nipples at distances over a 1/2 marathon. Be sure to "Body Glide" or "Band Aid" as a precaution.

I'll be sportin' my Lime Race Ready singlet.

Mel, that is a really neat poem, you have true talent. Hey, why not put that on the WISH shirt next year? No?

Kevin I'm so sorry you won't be participating, but it's smart to stay home and not aggravate the condition anymore than it is. Hope all goes well.

Good luck TEAM with the marathon...I'll be there in spirit this year, but walking with you guys in 2008! Have fun and I can't wait to read everyone's trip reports and see your pictures.

(cuz I don't want to wash the sleeveless if I wear it Saturday)..will think that some. I did wear cotton t-shirt in the heat 2 years ago for my 1st half. I made it through in cotton even! So, I'm confused about what I'll be doing canyatell? I may opt for SS in the parks as suggested, and wear my hot weather sleeveless stuff that I am taking now too. It's all something. DH is asking me why I'm taking so much running wear, don't I know what to wear?! ;)
My luck, it will snow!

Hello from the warm & humid Villages, FL!

My grandparents only have dial up, so this will be short & sweet.

Kevin - I am so sorry! Please take good care of yourself!

Matt - I am so freakin' jealous you were in CA over New Years! My Goos played HOB at DL last night!!! If it would have been HOB WDW, I so would have been there last night (even after our 27 hour drive!).

As for the lime green WISH shirt issue...I have no WISH shirt. I am going to wear my lime green champion tank that I wore to DL (and bought at Target) since it's going to be so warm. I went to the local Target today to buy another lime green workout top so you guys could see me while I do my scream-teaming on Sunday. Alas, this Target has none of the new Champion line of lime green workout clothing that they have back at home! I was so bummed. I'll probaby be back at Target before we head down to OKW, so I will check again. The new stuff they had at home was very cute. It's the exact same green as the infamous running bra they carry. :rotfl: It's a much better lime green for this pale redhead.

Ok, dial up is killing me here...and Chad is whining about getting some computer time too...

Hi All,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Mel – GREAT poem. Brought tears to my eyes.

Kevin – So sorry to hear your news. Take care of yourself.

Susie – Not a fun way to get some XT in.

Denny – Ouch! Glad you are all patched up & will still be able to race.

Well….been fighting a cold and haven’t gotten in any training since last Wed. Felt a little bit better today so went to the gym and did 30 min on the elliptical. It was tough since my chest is still congested but I got through it. We leave bright & early in the morning for WDW. Being sick put me way behind. Had to get the laundry done, clothes packed & Christmas tree down between yesterday & today. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hi Everyone -

Steve - wash the singlets twice and they will be fine. Just don't dry them or they may fit like mine - a little bit snug.

How about making lime green pace bands for everyone? That way you can all wear what you need to wear and yet you will know how to spot one another. Ok, its not ideal, and certainly isn't as easy to spot as a shirt but I shudder at the whole bandaids comment.

And also, I can wear a lime green pace band even if it clashes horribly with my snug purple jersey. I am sure that will make me easy to spot ina sea of purple :lmao:

85 degrees? They have to be kidding. I may be thanking Disney for starting so early after all.

To all of our long distance scream team...THANK YOU for being here for us!! :thumbsup2
Kevin, I'm sooooo sorry we won't be seeing you, though! :sad2:
Cam and Pat and any other marathon walkers, I, too, will be interested in your reports. I am planning on only doing one marathon in my life..the Mickey medal is calling me. When I read that there will be a special 15th anniversary medal next year...it looks like my once in a lifetime marathon is coming sooner than I expected!!:faint:
Cecilia, thank you so much for the pace band site!
MelR, sooooo glad the doctors finally figured out what was going on with your DS and that he is on the mend.
Denny, the pros have spoken..just wanted to say how glad I am that you are healing and still on for the race!

Off to do laundry:laundy: and pack....

I know this is studip, but I don't know what to do.

If you are up for it----use puffy paint either on fabric to pin to your shirt or just puffy paint directly to the shirt in a way that can be read "W.I.S.H".

We do this for Team in Training--only it is actually are name to help our cheerleaders know who we are...and when spectators can see the name--they cheer more.

Just a suggestion---but you will be tossing your WISH shirt...I guarantee it!!!

I would suggest lime green puffy paint--and if you opt to do this---if directly on your singlet....use some type of cardboard underneath the area you will right---be very easy with the puffy paint--you could inadvertently use too much and make a mess.....

If you just get a piece of fabric (I used something that was almost like canvas last year) and pin it to your shirt--front or back....then if you make a mistake, just make a new one. ;)

Hi Team,

Just popping in really quick --- Good news, my friend is definitely doing the Goofy Challenge, we may take it slower than we originally were going to do but we should be just fine. I'm so relieved, I haven't seen her in over an year and really like the idea of being able to catch up plus do a fun activity.

So is anyone else going out this Thursday? Uhhhh -- I have to get up super early that day and leave my hour around quarter to 4  to get to the airport and through security....I get into Orlando at 10:00 a.m. hopefully I will be able to get some sleep on the way there. :confused3

Looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday! Thank god, I am already totally packed. All I have to worry about is getting up in the morning.

Well, gotta go -- and get ready for work

Have a great day everyone!

Another idea for race day identification.....

Lime green ribbon (if you can find it)....probably the half inch think stuff...ladies can wear it in their hair if they like--or you can tie a bow and pin it to your singlet.

Of course--this idea may not work so well for the men. ;)

OK, so I came in here pretty darn low. I've been sick since Friday and my team shamed me last night. I want to rant, but think my energy is better utilized elsewhere. However, hearing of Kevin's illness and not even being able to make the trip makes me realize that things could be worse. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Kevin!!! We will miss you!!!!!!!

mel - That's an awesome poem!!! :grouphug:

Heather - So glad you and Kevin are ok to run!!!!

I am on the mend. If I make it through the work day and have energy left, I may do an easy r/w. I did 40 minutes on Friday without pain, bu I lost my stride. I'd really like to find it before I go. I will not push it, though. Been hydrating like crazy, but I'm still thirsty, so I'm really worried about staying hydrated in teh heat. I'm going caffeine free this week, though, and drinkinf Powerade Option like it's going out of style, so I hope to be ok.

I have the concentration span of a gnat, so forgive me for not catching up with everyone. Oh, it worries me that that is the only taper side effect I feel. Not dying to run, legs don't hurt. Maybe it's because I've been on a pseudo-taper for about 6 weeks.

Good morning everyone! Back to work for 3 days then it is off to WDW! I am not wearing my Crocs today, but I am wearing comfy shoes. If my feet start to hurt, I am going with stocking feet as Lily suggested. I started packing last night, but I am still bummed about the weather. DH is insisting on packing our throw away jackets and gloves. They take up way too much room in the suitcase. I am going to wait until Thursday night, check the weather one last time, and take out the throw away stuff if the forecast is still for the 80s. While going with the lime green singlet from Target is tempting, I am way too fat to show so much skin, and the WISH shirt is long enough to hide my butt & thighs in my sausage shorts. :rolleyes1 I ran in SS coolmax shirts all summer so I am sure that I will be fine in the WISH shirt.

Denny- I am so sorry about your face. Please take care of yourself. I am so glad that you can still make WDW. Just rest this week. You will have no problem finishing the 1/2 and claiming that Donald medal. My first year my longest walk was only 6 miles before the 1/2. I finished the 1/2 with no problem. You are well-trained and ready for this.

Jodi- I am so glad that your friend is going Goofy with you. :cheer2: I know that is a relief for you. Is your DH coming along as your Scream Team?

I am jealous of those who are already in FL, but I know that we will all be there soon. See you Friday!

Good morning Team! Happy New Year!! Like Stephen said, we are back from the lovely state of Michigan. I thought of Carrie and Kevin a lot this weekend, especially on the drive from Benton Harbor to Mount Pleasant, when we passed Grand Rapids, Grandville, and Kevin's college. :goodvibes I am going to be such a bear this week, I am "detoxing"--no caffeine until Sunday afternoon, plus I am sick with a sore throat and a very congested head. At least it isn't in my chest. I didn't get a single workout in this weekend, so I'm doing an hour today on the elliptical after work. I'm still nervous to try running with my IT band issues, so I was planning on doing the elliptical over the weekend in place of my 6 miler. We stayed at 3 hotels from Thursday-Monday and not one of the hotels had an elliptical, only a treadmill. Grrr.

Kevin-- I am SO sorry that you aren't going to be able to run this weekend. I was really looking forward to meeting you. Please take care of yourself and get healthy again. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dave--Who Dey baby!!! ;)

Jody--Yay! Your friend is able to do the Goofy Challenge with you. That is great news! I have to thank you for posting about your ATM troubles, my debit card expired in 12/06 and reading your problems reminded me that my expired card was still in my wallet. As soon as read your post, I moved the expired card to the back and put my new one up front. You saved me the embarrassing "Ma'am this card is denied" exchange that would have happened the next time I used it!

Denny--I am so glad that you are okay! How scary that must have been for you. I think you will be fine in the half on Saturday (Saturday?!?!!!! )

Kristi--I have that green shirt from Target too! It's a very comfy shirt to run in.

MelR--I'm so glad the boy is better. That has to be a huge relief for you and Phil.

I'm pretty sure I don't like the weather forecast for the marathon. Running in 85 degree weather is a little much for me. On the bright side, we'll get a nice suntan. :daisy: Speaking of suntans, does anyone know or remember if there's a booth at the Expo that sells the solid tubes of sunscreen that you put on your face? I got some regular sunscreen, but I couldn't find the tubes that Stephen and I can take with us and use as we are running. I'm sure I can find it at running store, but I don't have time to go to one this week.

I know there are A LOT of people I didn't talk to, I hate only posting a couple times a week. I'll be here this week, until Thursday night and then it's off to Walt Disney World!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

BTW ~ Just for the record, I will personally check each and every pair of running shoes for a race chip. If it appears I am being rude by not looking everyone in the eye, you'll know what I'm doing.

Howard

That's a relief. Last year I nearly tripped myself for the first mile because I kept looking down at my shoe to make sure the chip was really there!:rotfl2:

I'm relieved that others are opting out of the WISH shirt. I think I will wear an ultra thin white nike shirt due to the heat. Lisa's idea of puffy paint is a good one, I might try that. I have a lime green visor I wore last year, I might do that, too. Looks like there's no way to hide the Pillsbury Dough Boy legs this year:rolleyes:

Craig-- Are you walking over from POFQ for the full? If so, about what time? I want to walk over but last year I chickened out. This year I don't even know if I'm going to attempt the full, but if I do, I hope to walk and save that extra 1-2 hours of standing/waiting.

I definitely plan to do the half with Paul. Depending on how I feel after that, I'll decide on the full..

My plan (should I follow through with it) will be to show up at the start line and take one mile at a time. If I finish, great, if not, I did my best. At least its a very well supported race so I won't get stranded somewhere. It will be a miracle if I do it. The pain was one thing, then the weight gain, then the pneumonia, now the heat... It's really not looking too promising!

Squeek in a little last minute training, or go into the 1/2M having not trained in almost a month.Denny- Oh no, that is too, too bad. I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I think you'll be OK for the half though with the training you've already put it. Take it easy on yourself.

Good Morning and Happy New Year TEAM:

I was trying to catch up with everyone after not checking the boards much over the weekend.

As far as the weather goes, I'm going to be wearing shorts and my W.I.S.H. tank top. I got it this summer in the first batch of shirts, wore it for the x-country races in August, and then stuffed it in the drawer. I'm glad I have it now. I never thought I'd be wearing it for the marathon though. Am I going to be the only one in a W.I.S.H. shirt though? Hey everyone, on Sunday look for my scream team near mile 9 of the full marathon by the Wilderness Lodge. I'm going to give them all W.I.S.H. t-shirts so they should be easy to spot. There will be DW, Cool Aunt, and my 2 princesses princess: princess:. That is unless they decide to go to MK.

Not much else to report for me. I took 2 rest days off after my 7 miler on Saturday. I thought I would do some x-training on the elliptical today and SWOG tomorrow and Thursday. Get some good soaks for the legs in before travelling.

Oh one other thing, I don't think we'll be able to make it to the meet on Friday night afterall. We're going to be at Animal Kingdom, and I know everyone wants to see the parade at 3:30p. There's not going to be any way we make it to Pop for the meet if we stay for the parade. I guess I'll just have to meet people b4 the marathon, at the "W" tent after the full, and at the IllumiNations dessert party.

Krista and Iceman- Yeah! Go STEELERS!!!

Carrie and Kevin- Uuugh, the Rose Bowl was a stinker!

Whooo, I'm excited for the weekend. We leave on Thursday.

Or...Like Sunny, I may just wear my white nike tank...Sunny, we will be twins!

For everyone who is wanting to give up caffene this week for the race, let me give you a warning.....Bree did this one year for a race (not sure if it was WDW or another one) and she had a MAJOR head ache the whole race. I would not try to change much this week.

Dave--I've heard that caffeine dehydrates you, that's why I'm not drinking it this week. I didn't drink any pop the week before the half last year, and I was fine by Saturday. I just have to be careful to not over hydrate, I'll be drinking water and Gator Ade this week.

I guess I figure I'll compensate for any dehydration the caffeine causes with taking in some extra fluids. I've trained with using caffeine, and I don't want to switch now. Good morning Team -

I am a wreck. An absolute wreck. :scared:

I woke up this morning at 2:30 coughing and wheezing and having and really hard time breathing. I think I have a sinus infection, so I have an appointment with an ENT today anyway. But I really think I had an allergic reaction to something. I coughed so much my lungs still hurt. I was awake until at least 4:00. I realized the alarm was about to go off, so I shut if off and went back to sleep eventually. So I missed training. :sad2:

Plus, I am really a nervous wreck! All of the sudden these past couple of days I am petrified. Really. I have such an upset nervous stomache ache, and all the accompanying GI delights that go with it. I haven't been eating much, amazingly. Why am I such a nervous wreck?

I keep saying to myself "I have trained for this, I know I can do it - I HAVE done it!" I keep trying to remember what Craig said about all the hard work being done, now is the fun part. Ugh! I hate this! I keep trying to distract myself. I have so much to do before we go, you'd think I'd be too busy to panic.

OK, I must relax, RELAX, RELAX! I'm using far too much energy being nervous. Maybe once we get going I'll be OK.

I'd like to put my offer out there to anyone doing the Full, I too will be over by the Yacht & Beach Clubs on Sunday and would be happy to hold or take anything for you. If you want my cell number just let me know. I'm bringing binoculars so I can see who's coming so if you want me to hand you anything or take anything from you, I'd be very happy to do so.

Well, here's some good news. I did my last L.R on Saturday and felt really good about it. :thumbsup2

6.01 miles

Mile 1: 13:36
Mile 2: 12:22
Mile 3: 11:58
Mile 4: 12:39
Mile 5: 13:48
Mile 6: 12:30

I took a little different route and added some hills in mile 5.

I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

I need to catch up on this long post, but first I have to get us a rental car and confirm our flights.

Sunny - I need to "borrow" some clip art for the name badges.

Christa – I know you've already gotten a ton of advice on race apparel, but I think the most important thing is comfort. You could always hang a lime green ribbon from your waistpack or something to make sure we all spot you from a distance. Don’t worry, though, I am sure we will all recognize your smile!

Minnie – Great find on the kayanos. It’s funny, I still always have this sense of longing when someone mentions kayanos. I really wanted them to fit for me and be “THE” shoe, but they weren’t, and I am doing yet another race in my boats/slippers. I am so glad you were able to get such a great buy.

Denny – OMG! Thank God you are okay (relatively speaking). I have no advice to give on this week’s workouts, but just wanted to wish you the best as you count down the final days to the race.

To everyone else who is trying to get healthy for the weekend, I am sending pixiedust: and :goodvibes: I am really suffering with sinus pain of migraine proportions. And the flu like symptoms from NYE have hung on in the form of stomach cramping, totally unrelated to anything I am doing or eating or drinking. I am being totally optimistic that by the time we get on the plane Friday a.m. I will be feeling 100%.

My main concern right now is getting Howard to hydrate. I got him to confess this morning that pretty much the only water he drank yesterday was what he used to take his morning pills. So, the key word of the week in my house is "HYDRATE".

I am at work through Thursday. In between now and when we get on the plane, we have to
1. get Jenn back to campus;
2. get Andy's stuff ironed and packed for when he moves to a friend's house Monday after school (he wears a uniform to school and needs his shirts & pants ironed);
3. get the rest of the Christmas stuff (including the spode) put away;
4. get the house cleaned up for our "adopted daughter" who is coming Thursday to stay with andy until he leaves for school Monday;
5. go grocery shopping;
6. get to the bank;
7. finalize details for rides to all-state practice Saturday and a play audition Sunday night for Andy;
8. finalize details for the pet sitter for next week;
9. medical authorizations for andy and the dog; and
10. PACK

Geez, I feel like such a slouch being at work. There are so many other things to be done. Thank God Howard took care of most of the decorations and cleaning yesterday and is dealing with a lot of the other details. Not having the energy to work out is driving me crazy, but I also know if I were trying to squeeze that in now, too, I'd completely wipe out.

Take care this week, everyone. We are in the home stretch. The FINISH line is within our reach now! :cheer2:

Oh CARRIE, this is EXACTLY how I feel, I could have wrote this word by word. Not dying to run, low concentration, etc. etc.

I have to rememeber that this is all normal!! Everyone reacts differently through taper. I also have "hopefully" phantom ailments! It will all come together this weekend.

Thank you colleen!!!! I know you have not undertrained, so maybe there's hope.

Weird dream alert: This was from December 23, but I didn't post and thought it was too late, but reading that Krista & Steven really were in MI over the holidays really freaked me out and I must post. (I really did not remember hearing you were headed this way)

OK, so, Krista & Steven were going to her family's home in MI for teh holidays. Due to my hip issues, Krista told me I had to come to their house so I oculd get some rest. :confused3

It was a major family reunion/bash at her house and people were going everywher eand doing everythign adn I was getting sucked in and shopping with them adn such. So Krista finally yelled at me and told me I was supposed to be resting my hip. That must be when I went to my family's home. Next thing I know, I was headed to my old elementary school with my college friends to go line dancing. I really wanted to go, as I have not line danced since college, don't even listen to country, but I kept thinking how I should be resting my hip. The dream pretty much ended there. Oh, did I mention that the Michigan marching band was playing in the road outside the school? :confused3 BTW, to all of you who don't know me IRL, I really am pretty normal.

Oh, I should add that I am happy that 3 days on my back seems to have done wonders fo me hip. ALso, I am very thankful that I am not married to Steven, as I really don't feel like being thrown in a lake. Still hopin gthat I do not get Scott sick, but am comforted by the fact that he won't hold it against me. ;)

Sunny - We're staying at POR. If you want to walk over for the half let me know. I'd rather walk than take the bus.

Hey, is anyone excited yet? :lmao:

Yes, I plan to walk over with Paul for the Half, too. I'm thinking we will leave POFQ at about 5:15, which means we will really leave about 5AM due to nerves. What's your eta? Are you alone? I will look for lime green nose hairs, but I don't dare explain that to Paul:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I noticed there is a "mild front" heading in on Monday Jan 8 (along with thunder storms), maybe it will arrive early. I'd rather run in thunder storms at ~68 than sunny 85:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Fortunately for us New Englanders, we've had a mild December so our blood isn't too thick yet. But still....

Carrie, Cam, Colleen, Denny, Judy--- I'm so sorry you've all been struck will illness and injury.:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Here's hoping you'll all feel fine in a blink of an eye.

Judy-- beyond the sinus infection which hopefully will not be, and clear up really fast, you're fears are TOTALLY NORMAL. You once whispered in 1pt type that you want to be a runner. That little whisper voice is trying to haunt you now. SHUT HER UP! She has no place bending your ear after the serious training you've done. You are going to shine. But please don't shine to brightly, the sun is going to be hot enough:cool2:

Cam-- you, too! Please no flu or sinus infections:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: And no more mention of missed workouts. You are FULLY TRAINED FOR THE FULL. Your mention of Howard hydrating made me realize all I've had today is on tea... Off to the bubbler I go...

This has been a bizarre year. Last year we all had reasonable aches and pains, this year we've been hit by a swarm of ugly bugs.:confused3

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I'm realizing with the change from POR to POP for the meet, we may not make it. We arrive in Orlando around 1PM, taking the ME to POFQ, then off to the Expo to register. If it's too late or we (one of us anyway:rolleyes1 ) are too grouchy, we will just return to POFQ after the expo. I hope to see you all, though:grouphug:

I absolutely am walking to the marathon start from POFQ Sunday. I'll likely be in the lobby sometime before 5:30, do some final stretching and one last bathroom break, and then walk out to the corrals about 5:35. You are of course welcome to make the trek with me if you like. If we don't see each other there will be a few folks doing the same thing, and you can join up with them.

Good luck in these last few days.

So unbelievably busy but I had to comment on the race apparel...

I hacked off the sleeves of my WISH shirt last night, so I am still hoping to wear it for at least the start or when I can hand it off to my DH at one of our meeting spots. I will also use the material I have from hemming both of my WISH shirts to make hair ties or some other identifying piece that I can sport.
I hemmed it real short, nearly crop, so I am hoping I will be fine. I do have a backup Nike tank though...

Travel safe to all!! :wizard: :wizard: to those who need it this week. True to form, DH has a BAD cold:scared1: , so he is confined for the week. We leave on Thursday and I have about a million things to do before then:confused: I can't wait to see you guys:grouphug:

Kevin - I am so sorry to hear that you won't be joining us. Please take care of yourself.

I have found that my WISH sleeveless shirt is a bit too uncomfortable to run in, but I use it as a sweat rag. I start out my run in it, but once it starts driving me bonkers I take it off and hook it through my fuel belt so I have something to wipe the sweat off with. So you guys will see me in green running shorts, a green sports bra, a pink fuel belt, with my neon green WISH shirt hooked on it!! In any temps over 70 I wear my sports bra, so I hope it doesn't bother any one too much.

I am sorry I won't be meeting everyone on Friday, we actually aren't coming in until Sat morning in time for DS5's race, then back to the hotel to relax a bit before Sunday morning. I will however be in the "W" tent after the full, and that is where my family has been instructed to meet me.

I love the fact that the weather is going to be a bit warmer, since I live in Florida this is what I have been training in for months. I am still way to nervous, but I feel alot better physically. I haven't been running, just doing cardio XT. My ankles don't hurt, my shins don't hurt, even my knee is feeling much better. I think I am gonna XT today, and Thursday, and that will be it until the race. Are we meeting somewhere before the race starts? I know that we had talked about the left of the porta potties or something like that, but I would really love to find the group before our race starts. Let me know.

Take Care,
Dana

Dave - I went totally decaf (except a little chocolate) last year a week before. Same this year. I went decaf last week, but caff free this week. I was starteld to know that my Gus have caffeine in them. It's a VERY minor amount, so I wouldn't worry about it, though. You should be fine. Even decaf is probably ok, but I know I have hydration issues. Not gonna' waste my energy talking of yesterdays' dissappointement.

BTW - My scream team (mom and dad) left for FL today. If there's any PD left after all the run/walk team needs, could you send them some for safe travels?

Carrie--That dream is hysterical!!!! All the shopping and cooking is very much like my family!! I'm not really feeling the traditional taper either, I'm not grumpy and I'm certainly not yearning to run!

I could use some PD for my Mom as well, she is running the half, but her asthma flared up really bad last week from being sick, she can't even catch her breath when she is walking, much less running. She is going to see her allergist this week to get a new inhaler and she said she'll make a game time decision whether or not she does the half. I know if she doesn't, she'll be so disappointed and upset. By the way, does anyone know of she can fly with her inhaler?

For everyone who's sick or injured or freaked out or just "normal".

Judy got me thinking of this this mornign, so I'm going to post. This was "our" song for hs cross. I heard it while stressing out wwhen I arrived at teh Pop last year before the race:

Don't Worry, Be Happy
From the Movie "Cocktails"
Performed by Bobby McFerrin

Here is a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy......

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The land lord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Lood at me I am happy
Don't worry, be happy
Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me
I make you happy
Don't worry, be happy

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got not girl to make you smile
But don't worry be happy
Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy (now).....

There is this little song I wrote
I hope you learn it note for note
Like good little children
Don't worry, be happy
Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry
You make it double
Don't worry, be happy......
Don't worry don't do it, be happy
Put a smile on your face
Don't bring everybody down like this
Don't worry, it will soon past
Whatever it is
Don't worry, be happy

I can't focus at all at work today. I'm supposed to be reading/critiquing a grant application and I'm just thinking about the upcoming race. I did 30 min on the elliptical today. I think I may not do any running this week before the race and just do some x-training. I would like to get my shins totally healed up. There's still the smallest amount of soreness left in them - although it could be phantom pain for all I know.

Let's see as far as taper issues go. Yeah, I've been kind of antsy and irritable lately. So much so, my DW once said "so how's that taper going?" Which I responded by walking out of the house without saying anything. Then I got to thinking in the car when I was running errands. I used to always be antsy, cranky, and irritable before I started running this year. How I am at taper is how I was all the time. The running has been really good for me mood-wise. It's helped me lose weight, boosted my self-confidence, boosted my self-esteem, given me more energy - hey, all those things they say it's supposed to do in the doctor's office. It was kind of a breakthrough for me to realize that.

This trip to WDW will be such a reward for a year of hard work for me.

Hi everyone!

Cam is right, I don't drink enough water. This was proven this time last year when I was in the Emergency Room with a kidney stone the size of a gum ball. I was determined to run the Half and did (with a stent in place) and later had the stone pulverized and the stent taken out two weeks after the race. The stent caused frequent stops at the "facilities" along the course, despite these frequent stops, I finished the race in 2:15:56 for a 10:17 overall pace.

I can't drink like a :fish:. I am of the mind set that I eat when I am hungry and drink when I am thirsty. Today, she has given me the proper motivation to drink water in copius amounts :rolleyes1 . I downed 8 - 12 oz. cups of water at work and another pint of water this afternoon. Unfortunately my body isn't quite used to all this hydration.:confused3 I will keep up the hydration saturation the rest of the week into the weekend. I am keeping good track of it all so I can reap the benefits on the road and with my motivator.

Good Luck with keeping the pace! If I had trained fully for this endeavor, I might have set the 4:00 goal for the marathon. At this point, I just want to finish both, collect my bling and enjoy the WORLD for a few days.

Krista - Yes your mom can fly with her inhaler. Tho, last month when I flew the security guy was cranky and yelled at me because I didn't have it in the quart sized bag for liquids. I guess I didn't think my "prescription" inhaler was considered a liquid! So tell her to put it in her quart sized plasitc bag just to be safe from cranky security men!!!!

OK, work was pure H*LL!! And tomorrow is likely to be worse. By the time these 2 days are over, I will have definately earned my trip. I get the feeling that I will be getting calls while I am there tho!!! Things have been just nuts. I think the worse part is that I get home for 2 days and then turn around and go for another 4 days for a convention. I know I will be way behind by the time this month is done!!!

Dave, thanks for your Scream Team Thread. My DH is freaking about where to see me along the course and this is helping him decide. With 2 little girls and his parents, it's hard to cruise along the course to find me. I told him if he misses me at one, head to the next. Plus I am sure someone from WISH will see me and scream.... Won't you?? So far I think I will be wearing my sleeveless WISH shirt and black tights. The people at the Y say I am really bright!!!

OK, gotta clean out the fish tank and pack!!! Then I have to log into work and get some things done!! YIKES.... so much to do!!

You might--but I can't remember. And just wanted to alert you (I didn't think of it until now!) just in case since the last thing they have on property is your personal favorite power gel, gu, or whatever.

I am getting way too excited. I packed a white singlet and a white baseball cap tonight in addition to the WISH short sleeve shirt. I have not decided what I want to wear on Sunday. It turned colder here again today, and I am wondering if this colder weather will extend down to Florida in the next few days. I guess I will give in and pack a pair of running tights just in case. And fine, DH can pack the throw away coats and gloves. I am such a wimp about cold weather, I will probably wear the coat and gloves to watch the 1/2 on Saturday. I mean, it is going to be 60 after all.

My DDs are so cute. They have been calling me "Marathon Mama" the past few weeks. You should have seen their faces tonight when they realized that DH will be getting 3 medals. Better get to bed. But I'm too excited to sleep!

Better get to bed. But I'm too excited to sleep!

Me too! I work a short day tomorrow and then it is off to the airport!! It is finally here!

Oh, and I am SO glad I am not the only one dithering over what to wear/bring! I will be sticking with my lucky lime green undies and sports bra, and the WISh sleeveless shirt. It was ok in August for the Chicago half, so it should be good for WDW in January. My problem is how much stuff I plan to carry...cell phone, camera, couple of cliff bars, couple pks of sports beans, kleenex in case the port-a-potties are lacking, water, sunglasses...good thing I'm not planning on setting any speed records!

Hi Team,

This will most likely be my last post before the weekend! I leave tomorrow morning for Disney:woohoo:. It should be interesting at take off (I don't deal with the take off too well) -- One time I got totally freaked out at take off and grab my DH by the arm and sweezed it so hard, I left him with a black & blue.....Let's hope I don't do that this trip to an unknowing stranger:rolleyes1. Just kidding -- I should be fine!

I will see all of you on Friday at the WISH meet -- at POP.:goodvibes

Doesn't work know I have too much to do to be going in today????:confused3 I guess I should not be whining...I only have 3 clients today and only slightly have to deal with medicaid.....But it is the point!

Thanks to everyone who is supporting from home...that is so cool of you!

Susan - so glad to hear from you again.

Going to pick up DH's new shoes today..I will have to load up on the gels too. We are driving, but Lisa, you had some good advice on the flying with gels....
Lisa - are you planing on doing 08? I know Bree is, but she had her baby in November.
DH has now explained to me why I get so crazy about WDW and I am fine with other marathons.....it is the getting there...to WDW, to the starting line, ect....My others, I just walked up to the start and for the trail race there was just a little sign (where we parked) that said START...and a man said "OK, lets get started", and we ran.

Am I rambling?

I had my first marathon dreams last night. It wasn't funny or exciting, I was just running and running and running. I seem to have hit a "down" cycle in this taper madness and have decided that I will be happy if I even finsh the thing forget the 4;30 goal, I will never make it. Hopefully, this is normal and I will perk up before the race. Yikes.

I also signed up for the Atlanta ING yesterday. They are predicting a sell out based on the people who have already registered and so I went ahead. I signed up for the half not the whole marathon. I may never run another full marathon when a half is a perfectly great challenge.

Have a great trip everyone! I will try to catch up with some of you at the W tents after the races.

Ha, ha, Christa, I am the exact way. I was just thinking about that this morning. Why are I such a mess before this marathon?? The other races were no big deal (well, exciting yes, but nothing like Disney!). I think it has to do will all of you as well!:grouphug: It will be great to see everyone again and meet all the new people!:dance3: I am so envious of everyone already at Disney and those flying out today or tomorrow. I have to wait until Friday morning. I am a little nervous because this is a solo trip for me, but I know once I get there I can always tag along with my WISH friends!:goodvibes

Off to do my last run! I will just do an easy 3 miler today and that will be it for my Goofy training. Overall the training has been sporadic. I did get my 10/20 in but I only ran 17 miles TOTAL during the 3 weeks of taper (because of illness). I hope I will be OK on Sunday, that heat will zap me!

Oh, I am soooo excited!!!!!:dance3: :dance3:

YES YES YES!!!

Overhydration is bad...also do not take any NSIDS this weekend (like ibuprofen).

The marathon world has gotten better with this as the symptoms of overhydration mirror dehydration.

Just be aware that you may need to drink a bit more water than usual, but alas do not overdo it.

Let the weather obsession continue! :yay: Based on the hour-by-hour forecast for Thursday on weather.com (which is currently forecast to be very close to Saturday and Sunday), here are the approximate temps for the races:

3 AM- 66
4 AM- 66
5 AM- 66
6 AM- 65 (?)
7 AM- 66
8 AM- 68
9 AM- 70
10 AM- 73
11 AM- 79
12 PM- 80
1 PM- 81

If this turns out to be close, it looks like the 1/2 marathoners should not have too much trouble with high temps (although I know that high 60s is not ideal). Those of us doing the marathon, especially those of us who will take the entire time allotted to finish, will face hot weather on the hardest part of the course (the last 6 or 7 miles). That being said, WE CAN DO THIS! We are strong, we are well-trained, and we are a TEAM! :cheer2:

P.S. I think I might head to Target tonight and buy that lime green running bra. If it gets hot enough and I am crawling by mile 23, I might not care about showing too much blindingly white flabby skin. :lmao: Hey wait, there is a Target close to Downtown. Can anyone say "Road Trip" during lunch? (I knew my DH should have taken custody of my credit cards this week ;) )

I am trained for this marathon. Somehow I don't feel so greatly trained. :) I only did 10 minutes on the elliptical last night before I had to get off and go home. Of course I woke up sick yesterday--sore throat, head cold, terrible headache that lasted ALL day. It was the headache that made me stop last night, my head was pounding and the noise of the community center and my mp3 player didn't help. I am not sure if the headache was from the head cold or from not having caffeine all day. I am feeling a little better today, but I sound terrible. I've been taking Day-Quil/Night-Quil and my doctor called in a prescription that I'm going to start taking tonight. Crossing my fingers I don't have to run this marathon sick!!

Susan--It's so great to see you here!! I've missed you! Can't wait to start training together again and talking football smack. :cutie:

Howard--Here's my confession: I never drink water either. The only water I get is when I'm running and when I'm brushing my teeth. I don't usually take medicine, but when I do, I wash it down with Diet Coke. I am so BAD!!!! I've been drinking water and Gator Ade only since yesterday and it's killing me!!

Lisa--It's great haiving you around again! I'll miss seeing you this weekend.

Christa--I know what you mean about the excitement level at Disney. The only other big race I've done (bigger than a 10K) is the Flying Pig half marathon in Cincinnati, while it was a great race and a wonderful course, the excitement was no where near what it is at WDW.

Galloway says to drink (water/sport drinks...not beer) until you can hear sloshing in your stomach. He says that will keep you hydrated but not over hydrated.

Sara - I am so sorry to hear about DH's grandfather. We just found out yesterday that my DH's grandfather is going to be placed in Hospice care. He is like 90 years old, with alzheimers, and has been losing blood on a regular basis. He isn't bleeding or anything, he just isn't replacing what your body loses naturally. I don't know what we would do if he passed before this weekend, probably bag the weekend too. I wish you guys the best, and again I am so sorry.

I think Lucas (DS2) gave me his cough. DH too. I have been taking the zicam because I started feeling like I was coming down with something, and I can now feel a cough starting!! Luckily I have an inhaler to take with me. Hopefully it's all in my throat (if I do get a cough) and not in my chest.

I am so excited about this weekend. I have not run a race since Cross Country in High School, and even though we ran in the State Championships it was nothing like this. I go between being afraid I can't finish, to knowing I can finish but being so excited I can't stand it anymore. The way I look at it is, I ran almost ALL of my LR's by myself. If I can run 22 miles by myself in the freezing cold, then I can definately run 26.2 with people at DISNEY WORLD!! Right?! Please someone tell me I am right!!

We are not leaving until Saturday morning. Actually we are leaving at 5am Saturday morning and driving the 3 hours down to Orlando. Need to be there by 8am so we can check into our hotel, and make it to the Sports Complex for Michael's race at 10am. Also need to pick up my race packet while we are there.

Alright, I am just rambling now. I can't wait to meet everyone there.

I am worried about Amy. She hasn't posted in her journal recently, either -- or at least, not as of yesterday when I checked.

For everyone still not feeling great, let's hope we get it out of our systems before the race. My sinus migraine is marginally better and it only woke me up 2x last night. Hoping to get to the gym tonight for one last (reassuring) run. I am taking my autographed copy of marathoning for mortals with me to read the last couple of chapters and psyche myself up.

UGGGHHHHH!!! :furious: OK, fine. Let's get it over with. I do, however, have all the joys that accompany it - backache, cramps that would bring a mere mortal to his knees...guess this explains why I was extra vile last week. :rolleyes1

Did 20 min on the TM this morning @ 3.9 @ 1% and 10 min on the bike.

You'll all be happy to know I have calmed down somewhat. :goodvibes I am not such a nervous wreck as I have been the past few days. Guess at this point I'm just ready to go (except for the 100 or so things I have to do before I leave). It really helped to get all your very kind PMs yesterday. I really appreciate that.

Dave - You know, now that I think about what you said - about how you used to be ansty, cranky and irritable before you started training - I think might be true of me too! I realized I've been in a much better mood, and frame of mind, since I started training seriously. Well, OK except for the Taper Tantrums and PMS. ;) But I think you really might be on to something there. Concentrating on work? Come on! I haven't done that in a week!:rotfl:

Sunny - I got my EarPlanes last night! YAY! :thumbsup2

Cam - Thanks for the bump of the "rights and wrongs" from last year. I printed it out and read it last night. Good advice on there! :thumbsup2

Howard - I think all those trips you'll be making to the men's room today count as training! :lmao:

Lily - I have Lime Green Bra Envy. (Goodness! Tag Fairy stay away!) I tried to at least find a white one for under my WISH shirt, but I'm stuck with my navy blue. I don't THINK you can see it, but I may look like a complete fashion "Dont!". Ohh if I only had time today to run to Target....:rolleyes1

Oh Sarah - I'm so sorry to hear that.

Susan - I know we don't know each other, so don't think I'm like hitting on you or anything. :rotfl2: ..but holy moly you're pretty! Look at those eyes! I can't believe for a second you are 50! :goodvibes

OK, guys...guess this is almost it. I'm leaving work early because if those 100 or so things I need to do. I have packed my race uniform and everything else is all layed out, waiting to go in the suitcase.

Ha ha - OK, I THOUGHT I packed my race uniform. This morning I was unloading a basket of folded clothes and I found my RUNNING TIGHTS! :scared1: Can you imagine? I called myself all kinds of unflattering names, until Charlie came in and asked what the heck was going on. I haven't yet checked everything off my packing list, so I'm sure I would have realized. But at any rate, I do have three pairs of capris in my regular suitcase which would have worked too.

I'm thinking I'll see a lot of you at the Expo. I'll be sporting the Lime. If not, I'll see you guys at PC for dinner.

Travel safe everyone!

I can't believe we are leaving tomorrow. Oh man...I AM SO EXCITED!!!

DF (the man who disturbingly needs no running motivation at all) bought me a nano iPod, a Nike + unit, some new Nike shoes and a funky hat with speakers built in for the iPod. Does anyone use these? Let me know how you like it!

Suzie

Suzie,
I got the Nike + deal for Christmas and love it. It really may be as good as sliced bread. I'm not a big fan of the shoes however, I've been placing the sending unit that goes in the shoe between the tongue and laces of my New Balance shoes and that works very well. I've set goals for myself and entered a couple of mileage challenges on the website. Its just another way to help keep motivated.

Good luck again to all you runners this weekend! I finished my first 10 mile lr on Saturday, that was a great feeling. According to my Nike +, I ran 10.45 miles at an average pace of 9:47, and every mile was between 9:30 and 10:02, which was exactly what I was trying to do.

Remember, take lots of pictures and write really long, detailed reviews, please!!!!

Hi WISH Team!

I'm with everyone on the work comments. They should know there's things that NEED done and not here! That said, I am being kept immensely busy at work and it is making my time fly for sure.

Sara, I so sorry for the loss of Grandfather.

CJ, oh so sorry you're sicke there, but you are probably right about getting it over with before the event.

My big fear is to be sick this weekend. Battling every little ache or mind-thoughts of being sick these last hours.

I've got all sorts of things packed--can we say over packed for the weekend. It is such a problem trying to figure out weather. Awww wth take something of everything!

Still have last minute things to gather: $$$ some small amount of dollars as most is done on plastic--I don't like to carry around much $$, check/double check once over on the packing, double check the paper work, get the bills lined up for payments, ummmm the list is endless right now.

Judy, glad you'll be zoomin' now I guess. I won't be figuring that you'll be at the back playing with me then. At least you are dealing with things now as opposed to then.

I just know the "sightings" of any animal prints will never be the same...

I offererd to switch our outbound flights but he isn't agreeable at this time. His GF was 87, had Alzheimers and was in a nursing home. Honestly, this will probably come down to yet another thing my IL's will hold against me:confused3 .

Dave - Please try to stop by post parade at Pop on Friday!!

All of this talk about the lime green bra at Target has me so darn tempted!! I am now in search of a cow bell and I am scrounging through my DD's room for lime green hair accessories.

I will taking a bereavement day tomorrow to pay my respects, so if I don't check in again, travel safe and I will see you guys real soon.:cool1: :wizard: :wizard: For those who need it prior to the weekend.

Sara-- I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Susan-- Wow! It's great to see you. You look maavalous, definitely NOT 50!

I've actually been deligently working today. Then, I decided to check the thread and I'm in panic mode again. I have major packing issues. As of yet, I have not committed to the full. I currently have a check-in bag filled with propel water, V-8 and slim fast and gels-- all which will be a waste of travel if I don't actually do the full! I change my mind about 100 times a day on the subject. My "meager" training was cut a week short due to the pneum. My taper was non-existent, I'm 20 lbs heavier than last year AND I'm going to melt.... and sometimes I can barely walk! Oh the stress of it all!

Oh and I bought a really comfy tiny fanny pack this year, thinking I wouldn't carry fluids... now I have to rethink that, too. UGH!

As Heather pointed out, the fast WISHers might beat the heat... NOT ME!:scared:

I printed out a pace bracelet for 6Hrs and wrote the sweeper times at the appropriate miles. Maybe I'll just see how many sweeps I can beat:thumbsup2

As for hydrating and caffeine: (I'm no expert) but I say drink a little more than normal (or a lot more if you normally don't drink), keep the sodium coming along with the fluids and don't make any major changes in caffeine consumption. If you normally drink 3-6 cups a day, try to just drink 1-2. If you don't drink caffeine-- don't start now! Paul drinks coffee all day long, so I told him to try to limit it to 3 cups a day until after Saturday.

I have another idea that's taboo. Since I'm wearing new "not broken in" shoes, I was thinking maybe I'd wear them on the plane instead of packing them. My bum around shoes are smaller to pack anyway. Any thoughts?

Oh I have to end this post, my heart rate is climbing with every keystroke!:scared1:

My turn to freak out... :scared1:

I have two lime green jog bras from Walmart. If it's warm enough the last hour of the half, y'all may see one of them :scared:

I don't have any idea which WISH shirt to wear for the half 'cause I need to save one to wear while cheering for the full.

I'm bringing shorts, tights and capris...just in case. And a sweatshirt for the morning wait. And some pants to toss in case I wear shorts in the morning.

I'm breaking the cardinal rule of racing too...different shoes than I did my LR in. I sent back the FILA's I did my LR in and I'm trying to break in orthotics. So I don't know which shoes to wear for the race AND I'm wearing them around town trying to get used to the orthotics.

Anyone just want to run around screaming for awhile??? :scared1: :scared1:

Sara... so sorry for your loss. What a tough decision.

Susan...you look mahvelous, dude! Yep...we'll be keeping these threads alive for 2008...there'll be a lot of football to discuss ;) I'm a big fan of Jake Del Homme this year!

Here's my confession: I never drink water either. The only water I get is when I'm running and when I'm brushing my teeth. .

I don't usually take medicine, but when I do, I wash it down with Diet Coke.

Krista, Krista, Krista, my girl, you need to drink more water in your every day life!! Think about all those toxins in your body that want to be flushed out and can't!! Do you have problems with cramping after a run??

Just a quick drive by.

I'm out of here (work) in a hour. Still have to stop by the post office and stop the mail, get the truck washed, pick up a few snacks, get the boys prepared for their kennel stay, and finish packing. The DW hasn't even started yet.

Thank you to all for your condolences:grouphug: . I feel really bad for DH, as he is trying to do damage control since we most likely will miss the services. I offererd to switch our outbound flights but he isn't agreeable at this time. His GF was 87, had Alzheimers and was in a nursing home. Honestly, this will probably come down to yet another thing my IL's will hold against me:confused3

So sorry to hear about DH's grandfather.

Unfortunately, I have in-laws that have their idea of how we should live our lives too and they arn't afraid to voice it. Good thing my mother-in-law is 2500 miles away.

Colleen and Carrie--Thanks for your concern! :) I do not cramp after a run (thankfully) and I have been drinking Gator Ade and water this week, using the rule of thumb that urine should be a pale yellow in color--not dark and definitely not clear. Do you think my office mates would mind if I moved my computer and phone into the last stall of the bathroom? I've been making so many trips there today due to my 28 gallons of water and gatorade, that I feel I'd be much more productive in Stall #3 than my current office location.

DH grew up in a house where the Christmas tree was typically not put up until Christmas Eve night. So, although we don't put ours up that late, it's not uncommon for ours to stay up until February.

Our tree will be up till after the races although I did get the outside lights down yesterday so the neighbors won't complain. I still need to climb in the attic to find our suitcases and start packing since we leave tomorrow. Somehow when you are just driving over it doesn't seem as bad since most likely we will wind up just throwing stuff in the car.

And of course right when I think we have everything set up, Uncle Sam rears his ugly head.

I'm now scheduled for a simulator that's right, Saturday afternoon from 10am-2pm. Basically the whole President Ford passing thing gave us Tuesday off which was nice, but to make up for it we're having to come in and fly the sim on Saturday.

So now although Cheryl (DW) will still be driving down Friday morning and probably make the meet, I won't be able to leave until Saturday afternoon, and will not only miss the meet, but the entire half marathon as well.

:furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :badpc:

So basically I'll be driving by myself from 2pm-10pm or so (lose an hour going east) show up at the hotel, try to sleep until 4am or whatever, and then immediately have the run the marathon Sunday. After that it's back in the car all the way back home together, and I have a crack of dawn sim on Monday morning as well. Oh, and also Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. 12 hour days all the way through.

I'm ridiculously upset that I'll be missing out completely on my wife crossing the finish line of her first big race ever, 5 miles longer than she's ever run. I really hope you all get to meet her on Friday, and hopefully some of your scream teams will recognize her along the way (guessing around 2:30 finish time), because I'll only be there in spirit. :guilty:

Count me in as another one who has a MILLION things to do and yet here I am on the boards. AHHHHHHHHH - running around the room just for Carrie :)

Sara - sorry for the loss and for the accompanying difficulties. Hugs to you and your dh as you make your way through all of this

Matt - what a rotten turn of luck for both you and dw. I am sure that the WISH team will step up and help her along the way but I know it must be very disappointing for you both that you can't be there. Wishing you the best of luck making it through all of the next week - it sounds crazy to me!

Kevin - I am just so sad that you won't be there this weekend. I was really looking forward to meeting you! I hope that your mono passes as quickly as possible and leaves you no worse for the wear. We'll definitely be looking for you next year :)

My list is soooooooooo long at this point. My sister is getting married Friday morning so we have all of the accompanying duties for that, then I need to get packed for this weekend (along with all of the laundry I need to do first!), and then I have to get the house and kids ready for our absence; my mother and aunt will be here to stay with the kids but there is so much to do to help them manage while we're gone. I think it will take a novel of "notes" on where to find things, when the kids need to be where, what they need for lunch, etc. etc. etc. AHHHHHHH - more running around the room!

Too many things coming to a head at once - hope I don't just run away instead of dealing with all of it :rotfl2:

Better get busy - my aunt and cousin arrive late tonight so I guess having the guest room in order is a necessity, huh?????

Just as an FYI for those attending the dessert party on Sunday night - see you around 8:15 or 8:20 in the UK Pavilion near the Fish 'n Chips takeout window. They'll escort us down to the terrace at 8:30 and the party will last until 9:30ish. If anyone runs into any kind of problem, call my cell phone at 214-334-6807 and I'll do what I can to help!

I am so sorry I won't be there Friday night but maybe Cam can call me and let me hear all the fun :) I am so looking forward to seeing everyone during this weekend and hope that you all know how immensely indebted I am to each and every one of you for your presence in this group. Without all of you I could never have made it this far and I can't wait to cross that start and finish line with Cam by my side!

Thank you everyone -

DH was reading over my shoulder tonight and he no longer thinks that I am "over reacting" Evidently, he has had some repressed thoughts about my behavior the last few days. He was smart enough to keep silent. But then he read about the green toilet water and he realized that I am not alone in my obsessing. So thank you.

Safe travels to everyone leaving tomorrow. I have until friday morning at 4 am. Yes thats AM. I hope the rising sun doesn't blind the pilot. I won't complain, its a free flight.

I have no idea what to wear when I am not running. So I decided I better start doing some laundry tonight. I wonder where I stored all my summer clothes? :laundy:

Oh, and a bit of advice from an "old Pro" that I thought I would pass on: Run about a mile or two on saturday. It will lossen up the legs after travel and it will help you adjust to the climate a little better. It will remind you of how it feels to run in the heat. Especially important for those like me, who ran their last LR in below freezing temps.

Also, does anyone know the website where they have the time adjustments based on Temperature? That might be a good thing to look at.

Matt - what is it with the military and those simulator flights? They always seem to schedule them at the last minute and at the most inconvient times. Be careful driving all that way by yourself.

Sara - My dh's grandmother died 9 days after his GF and we decided it was too much to take the kids out of school for a second time in two weeks so we didn't go. My MIL eventually understood. Hang in there.

Cecilia - I haven't even started packing!!! I'm leaving for the airport at around 7:30 but we don't get to mco until 4 (i'm not sure why i thought it would be better to drive 3 hours for a direct flight than to fly from here w/ a plane change????) I don't know what to wear either!! I always call summer "the summer of feminity" b/c i like to wear lots of skirts (even biking skirts) Anyway, i don't think my little skirt outfits will work that great at WDW!

Vic - when you are done packing, can you help me out??

Lynn or Christa - I'm hoping to see you ladies b/4 the start of the race. I think Phil is thinking that he might want to move a little faster than me and some company might be nice. I'm not sure he could do the 4 hour thing, but he did that other one in just over 4 and 1/2 and it was hilly.

Although I'm really glad that I'm relatively sane right now... it would be so much more fun to be packing and running around crazy getting ready to go... and wondering what color the toilet water is... and if the lime green sports bra is the right thing to wear...

DD's boyfriend wants to do the full next year, and his dad has done the half and full in years past but didn't know about the Goofy until a couple of days ago. His eyes were wide with envy when he found out he could add another medal, so I may have a support group here to train with for 2008.

I'm having a hard time getting so worked up, I've been up since 2:00 this morning vomiting and have been bouncing back and forth between burning up and sweating and then freezing cold. Great. I haven't eaten anything yet today, I'm scared what will happen! I'm hoping this is just a passing bug. Oh, and last night I dreamt that my IT band was throbbing and throbbing; now I don't know if that was a dream or if my IT band was really hurting that badly. Matt - bummer about not being able to come earlier. As for your cold, take zycam or something with zinc. Maybe that will ward off that evil bug!

Denny - I'm so sorry for your accident. Glad you are doing better now.

Vic - are you still packing? :lmao:

As for me, I finished packing at 2:00 am. Working on getting the house in shape after our little "flood" took a lot of time away from packing earlier. I'm tired. On top of that, DH hurt is hip somehow - probably in moving furniture, carpet and other after the "flood". Now he can barely walk. I told him that he might ought to stay home and go to the doctor but he wants to come cheer me on.

I was going to go to the gym this am to do my 30 minute walk/run routine. However, I think I'm just going to stay home and do the elliptical. My pulled muscle is acting up on me and I don't want to aggrevate it any more today. Shortly after that, it's on the road to the airport. Wow, it's time!

Cam-- I just printed my boarding passes:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Complete with my one checked bag completely filled with liquids and gels.

Mel-- I'm running around screaming http://sunnyshopper.com/clipart/exercise2.gifhttp://sunnyshopper.com/clipart/exercise2.gifhttp://sunnyshopper.com/clipart/exercise2.gifhttp://sunnyshopper.com/clipart/exercise2.gif

I'm not packed yet. I don't have any summer clothes that fit! :scared: Dx says he won't share his carryon with me! So I have to do my own carryon, but I have nothing to put in it:eek:

Judy-- I still don't have my ear planes:scared1: I've done my "last stop" shopping twice and still have to go out one more time...

20 hours to Logan.......

ETA: Susie, the key to not having a let down is to immediately plan your next race and get back on the boards to virtual train with everyone!

Mel, I think the 5 hour peeps are supposed to meet Sunday am in the far left corner by the port-o-potties.

::yes:: Hopefully Lynne and Christa will be there too so Phil can find them! I really hope it works out and WISHER's can find someone to pace with. The only thing the corrals for the full and the wave start for the half that may pose some problems.

I think I am in the 6:10 wave for the half and corral B (again) for the full.

I will be in the air 24 hours from now.

Dave a good flight!

Colleen - I am going to miss the meet friday night. how will i find you 5 hr. peeps on sun am????I think it was decided by Colleen and we all agreed that meeting like we did last year in the same area over to the far left. Once you go through the baggage drop and into the port-o-potty area, go to the far left hand corner.

Colleen - or anyone else, can you please confirm for MelR and any others who may miss the Pop meet where the WISH'ers will be congregating pre-race both Saturday and Sunday?

4 good miles for me last night on the TM. We're off today to MCO around 4. As for DH's GF, the wake is tomorrow and the funeral is Saturday. The burial won't be until May, so now we're hoping it isn't the 4th-13th when we're booked for Orlando again. I would never hear the end of it...

Travel safe everyone. This is like MY Christmas and I am just like a darn 5 year-old!! I am literally:cloud9: and I can't wait to see everyone.

With the heat, none of our times will be stellar, but we will have a great time!

So good to hear from you.

Good morning!

Susie and MelR - Done packing! WooHoo!!!

Matt - Sorry about the Saturday morale flight (sim). Been there, done that.

We're leaving in about an hour. The boys are at the kennel and I'm fixing to pack the truck.

See you guys tomorrow.

Take care.

Matt- I am so sorry to hear about your cold and having to miss DW run the 1/2. We will be there for her and cheer her on. :cheer2:

Krista- OH NO! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that you get well soon. Like others have said, stay hydrated and take it easy today.

Carrie- I am so glad that you are feeling better! Don't forget to buy your t-shirt at the Expo this year. After last year, you learned NOT to wait so don't. ;)

MelR- How's the Boy? Remind me, is Phil going Goofy this year?

Amy- Howdy Stranger. We have been wondering if you were okay. Glad to hear that your injury is getting better.

Sunny- Can't wait to see you and give you a big hug  after all that you have been through this year. I am with you on the last minute shopping trips. I remembered late last night that I completely forgot to buy more Snickers marathon bars. Duh! DH is off to the store today to get some.

Dave- Safe travels. You made it! :yay: Remember when you were just running one or two miles?

I am almost packed. I even did some laundry last night (a miracle for me) :laundy: to make sure that my WISH shirts and running shorts are soft and clean for the race. I just have to get through work today without completely losing it. :scared1: And for some strange reason, I have massive envy over Vic's black hat that says Sheriff in lime green letters. :sad2: I wish I had a hat to match my WISH shirt . . . maybe I will find something at the Expo. I have not given in to my obsession to buy a lime green sports bra. When I told DH about it, he asked why I would possibly want a lime green sports bra for the race. After I explained that I might have to take off my shirt during the race if it got too hot, he was like "Yeah Baby" ;) So, DH is on board for the whole ripping off my shirt and running around in my bra idea, but I think I am just going to stick with the white one I trained in.

We're leaving tomorrow! :dance3: We're leaving tomorrow! :dance3: Almost time to print off our boarding passes. :moped:

That is so funny!!!

Heather - Phil is doing the full only.

Colleen and Sara - Thanks for givin me the info. I'll see you there!

The boy is doing well. I think he is recovered and is very excited about our trip!!!! He really wants to do a kids race, so i'm going to get up early and try to get him registered! I guess we'll go to the expo after that. I need to actually check the schedule to make sure it is open!

Krista - Oh no! I hope you are feeling better!!!! I don't drink water either

Matt = sorry about all of the issues you are dealing w/ for you 1st marathon!

Susie - Major letdown! Sunny is right. Stay here (the boards and schedule another race soon!)

Can I print boarding passes?

Amy-- so glad to hear from you! What will you be wearing? I might be in your vicinity on the course.

MelR-- yes you should be able to print boarding passes... check the airline website.

I wonder if Disney would consider moving the races up to BOston?!?! It's going to be perfect running weather this weekend (48-60ish). Darn! Actually, my marathon dream last year was that Disney called me and told me they over booked and I would have to run the marathon on my bike path and phone in my results!!!!

I actually have to go to a meeting in 8 minutes and talk intelligently:rotfl2: :scared: :rolleyes1 popcorn:: :lmao:

So how long is it socially acceptable to leave 2 Christmas trees up? End of January? February?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My mom left hers up all year for a few years...This is until my dad was tested for allergies and dust was the biggest one....can you dust a tree?:rotfl:

Burning question - enquiring minds want to know - are we going to experience a big let down after this is over? I'm already feeling kind of sad about it. :guilty: ;)

Safe travels, everyone! See you on Friday!

Susie - We will feel a little sad, but that is normal...just plan another race and that will help...even a little one.

Heather -- Your DH's comment had me :lmao:

Amy -- I am so glad to see you here. I have been so worried about you!

Susie -- Thanks for asking. My sinus migraine is gone! :woohoo: Now I am just congested with clogged ears and mild sinus pain. I think I'll go look for earplanes. My tummy still isn't right and I am hoping it settles by tomorrow.

Happy travels to all WISHers en route and happy packing to those of us left behind and trying to get it all done. :grouphug:

Thanks for :wizard: I am feeling a little better now. I still feel blah, but not pukey, so I'm okay with that. I ate a bagel about 2.5 hours ago and it's still down, I am hoping it stays that way!!!! I will be getting home around 3:30 today, I plan taking a nap before Stephen gets home from work and Mom, Dad, and Jessica (my sister) get over to our house.

Susie--I will feel sad after the marathon. I'm not 100% sure Stephen and I are doing Disney in 2008 (the marathon that is, we will always vacation there); I will really miss everyone if we decide to not run Disney.

Amy--YAY!!! I am so happy that you are feeling better. I have been worried about you. Looking forward to meeting you this weekend.

Sunny--I can't believe they expect to speak intelligently--don't they know it's taper??? Hello???!!!

I don't recall seeing your written request to be excused from 2008 yet. I'm not sure that will be an option for you! ;) Glad you're feeling better!

I need to be sent to the funny farm!
I just put on my "official race outfit" (including an old race #, my new # belt and pouch) and ran a mile. I even packed what I plan to carry (phone, gels, and put the garage door opener in it too:lmao: )
It is around 60 with 80% humidity and was full sun so I am reall freak'n now b/c I was HOT!
OK...off to work for a few hours. Leaving around 12 (lunch time) tomorrow!:cloud9:
