Airport travel on NYE as opposed to NY Day?

Does anyone have experience traveling on NYE as opposed to NY Day? We can come home either day, I'm just trying to figure out which would be less crowded.

My initial reaction is that NY Day would be worse. I would think that most people wouldn't want to travel on NYE; they want to celebrate. But, hey, what do I know?

Anyhow, it would be neat to spend NYE at WDW. I just don't want to be crazy and have a nightmare trip home on NY Day. I know our kids, in NJ, go back to school on Jan. 2nd - so, I suppose the 1st would be heavily travelled?.?

Any advice or experiences would be most appreciated!

NYE at WDW is wonderful and I think you'll probably have the majority of people traveling on 1/1. But, as you point out, school starts on 1/2 for many people so they may bite the bullet to get the kids home with a day to spare making 12/31 busy but less so than 1/1.

If you are thinking about changing your flights to 1/1 you may have some difficulty. In a regular year I'd say it was impossible but this year I imagine it can still be done.
