Hey all,
I just went to the Dr's today and found out that we are having a baby girl (in May). I am VERY excited, but the only problem is we can NOT come up with any girl names that we both like. We don't want anything super common, but nothing too weird either. So here's the thing, if anyone can come up with a girl name that we like and decide to use, I will give them a Pirates of the Caribbean fortress room code. Anyone interested in helping us, please post. Thanks SO much :) Oh, our last name is Johnson if that helps.

I like the name Jenna Johnson. Don't ask me why. I just do. :)
I also like the names Amanda and Leigh Anne.
And my last suggestions are Jillian and Kendra.

I always thought the name Emma was cute, especially paired with the middle name "Lee" ;)

Congratulations Palm!

Julia is a not to common name, also rhymes a bit.

Angela if you want to keep some of your faith in her name.

Deanna is an interesting and sophisticated name.

Best wishes for both of you! :wizard:

We don't get the choice here to find out if it is a boy or girl ...
Sometimes I wish we could know ...

Good Luck on the Name Game - it is hard for us to agree on names too!... we have our girl names narrowed down, but, are having a difficult time deciding on boy names

DaraAllen
12-27-2006, 10:33 PM
First of all, congratulations and best wishes! Pray for healthy baby and give thanks when she is!

Second, be sure to pick out one or two boy names. Those sonograms are not 100% accurate! neither are the amnios

Third, some suggestions:

Majel - American Indian, means Wood Dove (my daughter's name)
Katarina - Yugoslavian for Katherine, short version is Kaja pronounced kaya
Christiana - town in Delaware, almost named my daughter that
Catarina - Italian version of Catherine, short is Ciara (key-ARE-uh)
Julia or Juliette - Juliette means "Little Julia" (my mother was Juliette, named for her grandmother, Julia)
Sylvia - my paternal grandmother's name, but still popular

With a fairly "normal" name like Johnson, you want something a little different for first name. My maiden name was weird and my first name is weird, so it was a pain until I got married the second time, wound up with Allen!

And, of course, there's always "Dara" - lol

Helena
Marina
Crystal
Jasmyn
Mikayla
Andrea
Tikka ( LOVE This one. If picked, go with a middle name of rain :) )
Shelby
Rose
Roslyn

AAAAnd just some tips :

1. Baby names need to go nicely with the sound of your last name. Also, pick a first name and a middle name that go together well. (So maybe not something like Erasmus Beelzebub Smith !)

2. When your family finds a name you all like, look at the initials to be sure that you don't give the new baby a name with initials that will make people laugh. (So maybe not Pamela Iris Green, which equals P.I.G. !)

3. You might not want a baby name that is so unusual that the other kids will make fun of your little brother or sister as he or she grows up. (So maybe not Rosebud or Molasses !)

4. You also might not want a baby name that is so trendy that it will sound funny by the time the baby is ten years old. (So maybe not Sunshine !)

5. You probably shouldn't pick a name that's really cute for an adorable little baby but will sound silly when the baby grows up. (So maybe not Dimples !)

6. Avoid baby names that might produce insulting nicknames when people shorten them. (So maybe not Smellonius, or Smelly for short !)

7. You and your family might not want a name that is so hard to spell or to pronounce that people will always get it wrong and your poor little brother or sister will have to go through life correcting people. (So maybe not something like Incandescence, or is it Incandessints ? )

8. You and your family might want to pick baby names in honor of favorite relatives or ancestors, or special names that show your family's ethnic roots. You might even find a special name from a book or movie that you love. (Like Harry ?)

9. You might want to look through books of baby names and pick one that has a special meaning that you like - maybe something that means "sweet" or "kind" or "brave." (So maybe not wimp !)

10. You might want to think about names that will go nicely with your name and your other brothers' and sisters' names, so that if mom or dad are calling you all for dinner or signing a birthday card to grandma it won't sound too crazy. (So maybe not "Happy Birthday, Grandma ! Love, Joey, Cindy and Dweevo !")

There are hundreds of names waiting for you out there, so good luck on your search for the perfect name!

Have fun on your quest ;)

Just noticed the "King of Kings" tag... :goodvibes

A family friend named their daughter 'Victoria Christine' to mean "Victory in Christ." I always loved that.

This might be too different, but I think its pretty and flower-like... 'Adalia' (ah-dale-yah) which means "God is my refuge." It is actually my dog's name :rotfl2: but I think it would be such a pretty girls' name... We call her Addie for short :)

Palmnut! What wonderful news! The girls asked me after we met last week if you were pregnant...they are much more observant than I, lol. We are so happy for you! :goodvibes

You have been given some wonderful suggestions...many that I never would have thought of. After four girls I was running out of names. Mintchip didn't have a name until she was a week old (really!). ;)

I've noticed that you have been given the suggestion of Elizabeth a time or two, and I thought that I'd mention that my second oldest (the mother of my grandchildren...you didn't get to meet her) is named Elisabeth with an 's', so there's no Liz for short. When she was little I made her promise to name her firstborn John, so he would be John the Baptist, son of Elisabeth. It would have worked, too, if her husband (my son-in-law) had not had his heart set on William, Jr., lol! How rude!

My thoughts and prayers are with you for a happy and healthy pregnancy. May is great...no being pregnant in the summer! Yea! :lovestruc

My daughter is Nicole Christine so I'm partial to that choice.

My two youngest nieces are Teegan May (16 months old) and Olivia (3 months old). Olivia doesn't have a middle name yet. My sister hasn't come up with something she and the father like. Olivia was born on September 11th and it turns out my sister's water broke during the moment of silence for the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania. I suggested my sister look at the names on the passenger list from that plane for a possible middle name for Olivia. Some may find it morbid but it would make for an interesting background story about her name.

Sophie Mae would be my choice for a girl's name now. I had a second trimester miscarriage about 5 years ago. I had my heart set on Sophie Mae if I had a girl.

Remember, you can always add a silent 'q' to the beginning of the name if you need to make a common name more unique. :rotfl:

Congratulations and good luck with picking a name you like. My mother always had some names in mind during her pregnancies but didn't choose the name until the baby was born and she had some time to get to know it. She wanted the name to reflect the baby's personality or something like that. She got creative with my middle name. It's a combination of my father's mother's name, Lily, and my mother's childhood friend's best name, Anne. Anne died in a car accident when she was sixteen so my mother really wanted to name me after her. My first name was planned to be Ruth after my mother's mother and I already had a cousin Ruthann so Ruth Anne was out as a choice. My mother came up with Ruth Lilyanne. It is pronounced like Lily-Anne, not Lillian. I always hated my name because it wasn't common but I do like the thought my mother put into creating it and the meaning behind it!

Congratulations Palm!! I hope your pregnancy is going well too. Continued prayers for a smooth delivery. I also would say to keep it in mind that the tests aren't 100% accurate either, so pick out a boy name also and leave that thought in the back of your mind that "it might be"

My name suggestion is Victoria Ellen Johnson There is no way I'm taking a VMK prize though if you decide you like that, so don't even try! :rotfl2:

Thanks for all the names so far everyone. I don't know why this is so difficult for me. The name should be the easy fun part right? Grrrr! Anyway, Pink, NO MADISON! Lol! There are too many Maddies at my church. Anyone have any good A names? We like AJ for a nickname... Or R names for some reason. I need a baby name book I guess

I'm not talking about "Maddie"; I'm talking about the name "Madison" - no nicknames allowed ;)

AJ? RJ? No!!!!!!!! Too tomboyish...........

Ok so I spilled the beans to Pink so I guess I can reveal here and hope we don't change our minds. We've decided on Elaina and we're going to call her Lainey. So I guess the closest person to that was Snowy Jingle Bells on page 3 she said Alaina. Thank you everyone for all your suggestions :)

Beautiful name. I had to scour the post to see if I never posted myself, nope. Alaina was one of my top choices, calling her Lena, but never convinced dh. Snowy did actually put Elena, along with the majority of a small baby name book. ;) We have a neighbor girl named Alaina and they call her Lainey. She's a confident sweetheart (just in case it matters, lol).
Along the same lines I've liked Arianna, or Aria for short. One of my former day care kids was named Arja, pronounced Aria. I thought it wasn't great thinking to want her so unique that people totally mess up her name all her life.

Hey all,
I just went to the Dr's today and found out that we are having a baby girl (in May).

I think her name should be Emma Rose Johnson :) Thats my favorite name :):)

We like AJ for a nickname... Or R names for some reason.Oh Palm. I totally missed out on this thread and came to it too late. Congratulations on your impending arrival and for also selecting a great name.

Of course, if you are suddenly back in the market for "R" names... might I recommend "Ricksella." It has a certain exotic flair, don't you think? ;)

And I have to agree with Pink that "Madison" would be a great name too. After all, our fourth president was a Madison and he turned out alright. Also, he was short and so, too, will your baby be. Hmm, but he also owned slaves. Well, maybe your baby wouldn't own slaves if she were named Madison.

Ooh, and that mermaid from the movie Splash was a Madison... and she was lava. Hmm, but she talked in that high-pitched screechy mermaid voice. Well, maybe your baby wouldn't talk like a mermaid if she were named Madison.

Boy, good thing you already have a name. This is hard!

Ricks (who believes a rose by any other name would smell as sweet)

Ye shall henceforth be dubbed Ricksella from this moment on (or trick.sell.a, whichever the case may be) ;)

Good thing Ricks isn't naming your baby, Palm! Good grief!

And I have to agree with Pink

Ah! Stop the presses! This one was SO worth quoting! No way could I resist....
