I found this lovely photo on the internet, I cropped it a bit so it could go into my signature, but it's still WAY over the byte limit. I was wondering if anyone could teach me how to resize them?

If the visible size is what you want, then lower the quality setting when saving to reduce the file size. Every program does this a different way, but it should be there somewhere. Once you lower it, you cannot bring it back, so you might want to save as a copy so that you do not have to start over if you make a mistake.

You won't be able to do much with Paint. It's not designed to do what you need. You will need to get a real image editor. There are many and most cost much. You may want to find something free first, to see if it will do what you want. Try going to www.download.com (http://www.download.com) and looking for something that does digital editing. After a quick look, I see two that may help. They are called FastStone Image Viewer and IrfanView. They may or may not be what you are looking for. Other, more pricey, options are Adobe Photoshop (CS2 or Elements), Paintshop Pro, and others.
Whatever you pick, you need something that will allow you to change resolution, width, height, etc. To post files that fit the limits of the board, you will usually need to change an image's resolution to 72 pixels per inch and the width/height (whichever is larger) to a maximum of 800 pixels, which works just fine on most video monitors.

Irfanview is probably your best bet, but the Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/windows/) is another free editor that will let you do more if interested.

Actually you can do it in MS Paint. . .
Go to Image>Stretch/Skew and adjust the settings.

I believe that DueyDooDah means that you cannot change the quality settings for JPGs in MS Paint. You need a better program to do that.

Definitely go with Irfanview... you can resize, crop, and save at different quality levels until you get to the byte size that you want. It's free and a tiny <1-meg download. You'll never run Paint again. :)
