I apologize if this has been asked recently, the last post I could find was from october. How are they handling carrying on pin bags at airport security? I am traveling in a week from Atlanta Hartsfield to MCO and don't want to have problems at security.

Can anyone share their experience with carrying on their bag recently? Anyone specifically at hartsfield? Thanks for any help.....

If Atlanta is anything like Newark and I suspect it is......security is still really strict about pointed objects. If I were you I would check your pin bag. It just isn't worth the risk of possible confiscation to take it on board with you.

I have been keeping track of the same. I certainly don't want the pins I am carrying confiscated.
I may even send them to the resort, Priority mail.

I travelled several weeks ago and took all THREE of my pins bags on. Left out of Dulles/Washington DC (where security is pretty tight) and there was no problem. The screener checked every page of every book. Coming out of MCO, even better. The screener said "you've got Disney pins"! Took a quick look, complimented me on my collection and away we went. I was pretty nervous about carrying them on. But after doing a list and the fair market value price of the pins I was carrying on, the total ended up being over $4,000. If I had checked them I would have had to get extra insurance at $30 per $1,000, so I took a chance and carried them. Glad I did! If you ship them to the resort, you still have to buy insurance and that could get pretty expensive.

Ths is from WDW. JudySue and I came down Thursday night (11/29) from Washington/Dulles. There were about 400 pins in the carry-on. We got a fairly close inspection. We did ask that it be done in private, and we were taken into the Security Break Room, where one person went through the case and another watched. We had no problems at all. Actually, they were very impressed with the collection

Hi, I just flew out of Harrisburg PA on 11-16. They did ask me to open my bag, but after a quick look at the pins, said ok no problem, and allowed me to carry them on. On the return trip, I didn't even have to open my bags in Orlando. Just went right thru. I did mention up front before I even put my bags thru, that I had a pin collection in them. I'm going again in Jan. and am going to carry on again.

Hope that helps.

but I STILL don't take my trader bag...it has about 200 pins...Austin Bergstrom would probably confiscate it...not good not good.
I have taken a few pins (e.g. less than 10 carded and wrapped) and not had a problem with those, but my overfull little trader bag...those of you who have traded with me know the "increased density" of that little bag ;-) has to be checked...hate it but do it.:bounce:

We just got back from the discon convention. We carry two rolling suitcases both with pins in them.

We had no problems in either Chicago or Orlando with them. They always open the bags, look at them and that's it. Took about 15 minutes in Chicago and about 5 in Orlando. The people in Chicago spend more time admiring them, where the people in Orlando see them everyday.

About 3 weeks ago we also went to disneyland via LAX. Same two bags took about 15 minutes to clear security there also.

But overall no problems getting any of them on the plane.
