I just read the "Borrowing" others photos for your scrapbook (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1292040) thread and thought I'd offer up my latest trip picks. You can download them at full resolution and print them yourselves or you can just order prints from the site.

MGM (http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/2251902)
Epcot (http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/2250989)
Animal Kingdom (http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/2249971)
Magic Kingdom (http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/2250500)

It'd be great if you let me know (pics@barbierifamily.org) which ones you found useful. It's not necessary, but I'm just curious.

Here are some examples from the Festival of the Lion King:

If you want a quick an easy way to see my best photos from the trip (and you have a Windows PC and a good Internet connection), check out one of my slideshows at http://barbierifamily.org/slideshow.

Since this trip, I have gone back to WDW again. The photos from that trip are in the thread More Photos for Borrowing (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1617443).

Mark, thanks for the offer. I know I will probably be borrowing some pics of signs, like the Fantasmic one. I always forget to take pictures of those then wish I had them for the scrapbook. I'll share when I use them. Your pictures are AWESOME!!! Love the slideshows!!

Great pictures - thanks for posting! What kind of camera do you use? My FIL has some fancy digital camera with a $2,000 lens that takes amazing photos like those. I cannot afford that, I just have a little digital, but it does make a world of difference doesn't it!!

WOW!! The slideshow was awesome. My DS wants to see it again, please. But he has to wait until Mommy is done typing.

Thank you so much for sharing. I will be borrowing your photos as we did not take enough photos on our first trip this past August. Do you think anyone will notice the dispcrepencies in the time line with the Christmas lights?

Thanks so much for all of the compliments. We're really happy with how most of the pictures turned out.

What kind of camera do you use?

I do use some pretty expensive gear. The camera is a Canon 1D Mark II (about $3,500) and the lens is a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS (about $1,600). I've been a hobbyist photographer for a long time and have accumulated some nice toys. My camera gear is worth a lot more than my car (although that isn't saying much).

My pictures from that show are so dark and grainy!
I posted the Festival of the Lion King photos on purpose because it is a show that really benefits from high end photo gear. You need a camera that can shoot well at high ISO (the digital "film" in the camera has to be really sensitive) and with a wide aperture (the lens opening has to be really big). That allows you to get good shots in low light.

Here are some more FotLK photos from our trip:

Oh, my gosh! Absolutely gorgeous pictures! Thanks so much for your generous offer!

I only watched the slideshow for now but I can see that I would definitely love to borrow your attraction photos - ToT and Everest, specifically. I'll be browsing your site as soon as I get a chance.

From a viewing (not borrowing) point of view I loved your stroller shot and the pictures of your kids on Test Track and Kali - great reaction shots! And the tigers that looked like they were dancing - that's an incredible picture!

Thanks for sharing!!

Your pictures are so clear! Many of them are absolutely breathtaking while others make me feel I am back in the World!

I also peeked at your Vegas pictures and WOW! The colors at night and the little umbrellas pictures make Vegas look like a photographer's paradise! I could never get all those lights correctly photographed but you did a beautiful job!

Hi Mark - we are neighbors (I live in Jersey Village) and I am the one that started the "Borrowing" thread. Thanks so much for the offer of your beautiful photographs. I, also will be borrowing a few from FOTLK and Fantasmic as well as some of your pictures of signs. I took over 1200 pics on our recent trip but it just seems that I either forgot to take ones I really wanted or the ones I took just didn't come out right. Thank you again for your generosity!

I'm back again - LOL.. :)

May I ask what kind of camera you used to get such spectacular photos???

MarkBarbieri
12-27-2006, 05:15 PM
May I ask what kind of camera you used

I used a Canon 1D Mark II. Most of the photos posted on this thread were taken using a Canon 70-200m f/2.8 IS lens. I also used a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and a Canon 17-40mm f/4.0 lens on the trip. It's all horribly expensive stuff (not to mention bulky and heavy), but photography is my primary hobby, so I can bear the expense. I am one of the few people I know who's camera gear is worth much more than his car.

I hope you guys know that if there is ever a picture that you want for your scrapbook, you can almost certainly get a good one over at the Photography Board (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=97). Just tell people what you need and you'll probably get a lot of good pictures in response. Some much better photographers than I am hang out there, so you can get some great shots.

The other thread that Mark talks about is the Picture of the Day thread in the Theme Park forum. There are some awesome pictures there. Of course Marks are some of the best. O Joe and Gdad and many others also have amazing photos. They just happen to be the ones whose names are attached to all the photos that I wish I had taken! Those shots make me think I should just leave my camera home, but then I wouldn't have any family photos to scrapbook.

I'm afraid that I don't even know what the Adventurer's Club is.

Any hints you have for people just learning??
Spend some time over at the Disboards Photography Board (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=97). You'll pick up lots of hints and tips.

If I had to summarize my favorite tips, I would say:
1) Take a lot of pictures and only keep the ones you really like.

2) Try to zoom each picture in so that only the things you want to take a picture of are visible (also called "filling the frame".)

3) Don't forget to take pictures of the little things like signs, buildings, or other things that help set a scene.

4) Take a lot of pictures of your companions while they are actually doing things, not just when they are posed.

5) Learn the rule of thirds.

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures.

I'm glad that you find them useful. I'm thinking about setting up a website on Disney Photography. If I do, one section will be devoted to pictures that would be useful for scrapbookers. I think scrapbooks are really cool. Sadly, neither my wife nor I have ever really created any.

Mark- your pictures are AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!:) Have you considered digital scrapbooking? You have a good picture editing program, don't you? You wouldn't need much more than that. I would encourage you to check out some of the posts here on digi scrapping- I bet you would be really good at it! Besides, the world could use more male scrappers!:thumbsup2

I am so thankful for you!!

My 4 year old daughter went on the Tower of Tower and then our camera was stolen and I lost those pictures. It is the one ride she still talks about (she was proud of herself) and I was wishing I had something from it!! Thanks so much!

I am going to make the picture of the hotel a 8x10 size and then scrapbook on top. (still have the photopass pictures and quarter pressed) That way I won't feel like I stole your picture but it is more a background paper. THANK you so much

Your photos are beyond words. The FOTLK is our favorite show, and seeing those photos brings back wonderful memories. Since we have a "much less expensive camera" and no flash pix are hard to take, we have very few. Thanks for sharing and if I borrow any, I'll be sure to let you know.

Mark, would you mind if I used your FOTLK sign for a scrapbook swap?

I was going to use it for a title piece.

I'm very sorry for the late reply to this. I was on vacation for most of August (See the pictures on my Smugmug site (http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/3286305#191193415) or the slideshow on my slideshow page (http://barbierifamily.org/slideshow)). Not being a scrapbooker, I don't regularly check this forum.

Any of you can use my Disney pictures for any legal, tasteful use you want. I'm just an amateur photographer taking vacation pictures and having fun with it. If you have a use for the pictures, by all means enjoy them. It doesn't cost me anything. I still don't really understand what a swap is, but it sounds OK with me.

I would also caution you that not every photographer feels the same way. When someone takes a picture, they automatically have a copyright to that picture. Using it without their permission is illegal. Even some amateur shooters are very cautious about who can use their pictures when. You'll find lots of great pictures if you watch the Photography forums, but ask before you borrow any. Most of the people there are quite generous.

Remember that you can get the best picture by going to my Smugmug site and selecting the original size photo. You can also let me know what photo you want and how big you want to print it and I'll process one specifically for that use. Believe or not, there are different tweaks that you do to a picture depending on how big you are going to print it and what kind of printer you are going to use.

Great pics as usual Mark. I love the nature pictures from Canada. I would love to go to Banff some day.

Basically a swap is where there is a group of us, say 6, who make 6 of the same thing and then we trade so we each get 1 back from each person. It's all for our personal scrapbooks, nothing to sell or mass market.

I totally understand why not everyone is willing to share. I love sharing for our pictures, some of us at some point wish we had gotten a shot of something. We started a thread too for picture requests. It's titled "anyone have a picture of....."

Thanks for getting back to me!

Your attention to detail is amazing....I went thru all your pics and I scrap-lifted some of the more detailed shots of signs and scenery and statues. I just finished my scrapbook from 2003 and am working on our trip in 2005, a scrapbook for my niece!

Your pictures are just beautiful. I can't wait to print them out. They will need no cropping at all- I love just thinking about printing out the size I will need.

You have much much thanks from a Disney addict here in West Virginia.

Hope you update your photo site soon with tons more pictures from great family vacations! Your family looks wonderful.

Thanks for sharing! I borrowed pics of Fantasmic. Your camera (and eye) is much better than mine.

OOooh...your pictures are fantastic. We just got back last night from WDW and it took me 3 cameras to get pictures - and a lot of them are just horrible. My first camera conked out in the morning of our second day and the Kodak shop did not have what we needed....so I was forced to buy a (akkk!!) disposable camera for the rest of the day. DH went to Walmart and Target at the end of the day and still could not get the right battery for my camera - so he ended up buying another (basic) digital camera...which I couldn't get the hang of right away.

So what I'm saying is...chances are very good right now that I'm going to be borrowing some of your pics. Thank you for sharing them, you have amazing talent.

Wow!! Great timing for me to find this thread. I see it has been popular.
I was just complaining about my pics not being as clear as I wished. For some reason I was using 2 different cameras, my digital and 35 mm. The 35 mm really let me down. And that is the camera I was using when we met Cinderella and had lunch at the castle...:headache:

Thank You Mark for sharing...:flower3: ...sooooooooooo kind. The pics are incredible. :goodvibes
I am going to look thru and am hoping for some castle pics reallly badly!

Thanks Again!
