I order some bulbs last spring and they didn't do very well and after checking out the company there was a lot of complaints about the quality of plants that they sell. I don't want to make the same mistake this spring. What is your favorite companies to order from? TIA

I've been happy with the bulbs that I buy at our local Ace Hardware store! I used to order from mail order catalogs, but have been happy going local.

I order from bluestoneperrenials.com and have loved everything I got from them. They come up year after year and look beautiful.

I've found locally to be best for me also. Picking out the best looking ones is fun. Ordering from the mail order & internet I've gotten a few dried up bulbs.

i order from burpees, seeds of change, the national arbor foundation, and plain old walmart cheap seeds, i save seeds from the plants from the year before, save the pumpkin seeds from the pumpkins we pick in the fall, and the strawberrys do very well, we also have a little farm near us that have plants that are already started which really do well my daughter bought me a cocktail tomato plant for mothrs day last year which kept producing right thru october , got about a 8 oz paper cup ful each week and saved about 30 dollars at grocery store by growing my own also blue lake string beans come up good in ct, :cool1: :cool1:

burpee bulbs are great, a little expensive but really nice. michigan bulbs are terrible.
i order seeds from pinetree seeds..they are a small company and their seeds come in smaller packs so you can try more varieties and they have lots of different types as well...also Shepard seeds but i think they may have either gone out of business or changed names. other stuff i buy locally and bluestone perennials is local for me so i go when they have their markdowns after the big mail order sales are done:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: but their stuff is really nice as well but pricey via catalog( but not at the sale, i repeat:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :rotfl: )

I think Shepherd's seeds are owned by White Flower Farms now...or they were last year. I'll have to check up on that.

Well, on checking, it seems that Renee Shepherd has re-started her seed business under a new name...check it out.http://www.reneesgarden.com/articles/shepherds.html

I am soooo jealous that bluestone perrenial is local for you. I love the quality of the plants from there. Their only down side is that it is pricey.

I've ordered from Bluestone(Customer Service is great since I changed my order several times:rolleyes1 ).
Currently waiting on orders from Henry Field & Michigan Bulb & looking through Spring Hill Nurseries catalog..

Here's a neat site that has online ratings...Bluestone is one of the best
