I'm heading into uncharted territory, Man territory. I need to finish shopping for the kids, the mom, and the DH. I never shop this late! All the men are out. Wish me luck!
I'll be undercover for the rest of the day, if you don't hear from me by tonight, send out a re-con team. Commander PrincessNancy96, you know what to do. Send in the RI unit, they are the closest.
Commander Buffy Out!

You guys crack me up! Re Con! Bwahahahahahaha. I love having a place where other people "get" all the little Disneyisms!
Good luck Buffy! I had my own mission this morning to finalize a bunch of small things and I was successful! The force *was* with me! pirate:

The butt ugly tree however is not my fault! The people who lived here before us planted a pine tree but decided to turn it into a topiary. UUUMM bad idea!

RE-CON status update:
The kids are done!!! I got 1 thing for my mom, ACMoore had a really cool scrap bag for 50% off!! And I picked up a few small things for DH. He is so hard to shop for. He loves classic minis so all the books he wants are either out of print or need to be bought in the UK so they wouldn't get here in time. I'm going to shop through Borders.com tonight and see if I can get some stuff to do in store pick up tomorrow. Oh yeah I need to make a Harry and Davids basket for MIL too, but that's easy!
the mission was a success!! Over and out......
P.S. no offense to anyone but man Tuesday is Senior Citizen day, OY!!! Is all I can say.... :teeth:

Glad you made it OK Buffy...
I did some recon at the mall today too...Macy's was a zoo, but I got what I wanted with little interference from the enemy shoppers. Then went to Boscovs and got the slipper socks...in PURPLE...that I needed...and the belt that DS18 needs so his pants stop falling down. So that was a good mission too.
Tomorrow I get to do the food recon for the troops for the holiday meals and snacks. And more wrapping, and then I'm done  :dance3: :cheer2: :yay:

Glad your back Commander Buffy.. I got booted from my post by DH who took over my computer for his own mission... I did some shopping today too. DH done.. 4 of the 5 kids are done..actually only missing 1 thing for DD... but I can pick it up tomorrow.. it's and I-tunes g.cert for her mp3 player... Let's see.. I got at least 3 things that the kids just wanted to have...so I'm hoping for rave reviews from the natives on Monday morning...
Okay, next mission will be coming up this Saturday... I won't have access to the computer but have to go to the MIL and SIL from hell.. so anyone have good advice?? These people even make me uncomfortable in my own home.. My kids (well, DH too but he'd be upset if he knew...) and my stepsons have already been strategic planning online (they IM each other constantly)...on how we can leave early..

HHMM eat something with fish or nuts a pretend you're having an allergic reaction???
UUUMM Is it at your house? If not I could call you and say your house is on fire?
If the kids want out badly too, have someone fall or get sick those both work well.
Let's see. Oh I know I'll call, you'll say yep, uh huh, aye, aye Commander and tell DH an important mission came up and you are needed back at base ASAP.

Nope, it's not at my house.. can you call my cell phone and let me know me know we have a mission!!!! DH knows how important the DIS is to me... He wouldn't hear of me not being able to help my swapaholics!!! :rolleyes1
I'm sure the kids will have a plan set up and down to the minute... the 2 hour drive will allow them to plot and scheme the entire way... I better pay close attention just incase we need their tactics for a later re-con mission...

Nancy, I know how you feel. My MIL makes me miserable. I have never known how to deal with her and she, frankly, hates me. She ignores my kids, or yells at them, unless she can countermand something I say to make me look bad...horrible situation. Fortunately, after the wedding debacle this summer, DH has had enough. He said he really doesn't care if he sees them again. We are just through trying. If they want to come here, fine, but we are done making special efforts. He told me he feels closer to my family anyway. Sad, but true.
I will call you! We are having one of the family things Saturday - I have true loons in my family and we can generate some type of emergency (there is going to be a police officer present!)

glad you did ok buffy!
can someone call me on sunday night at my sil & bil's???? they just don't get it! i can't do fake and phony. it's just not me.my mil and fil act like they hung the moon, and as for dh, ds and moi, well can we say "black sheep"?!yuck! it's just such a drag. my fil never even says a word to me the whole time we are there. not hi, drop dead, thanks for the gifts, nada. and worst than that, nothing to my son either. REALLY. it's his one and ONLY grandchild. :confused3 and he's just such a good boy too. very polite, very sweet (not that i'm bias) but he really is.
so get the cell phones ready, 'cause i might need the troops to call me for help and support.

Wow! Our DHs families must be related.. OH, that is right.. he is from IN isn't he???? Where about again? I'm telling you.. My MIL and SILs do the same thing.. I have one that I get along with well (SIL)..but she has 3 kids and runs like I do so when we get together it's usually for an activity that we can meet at to catch up and than we don't see each other for months and live 40 minutes apart... Mike just decide to give this a shot again after his hospital stay...and just trying to be a family again.. he said this would be a deciding factor...
So, everyone have your cell phones ready...there seems to be a lot of us in "in-law OUTLAW" country that will need to be helped!!!

Okay all, I have 1000 anytime minutes to use up, so PM me your cell phone numbers, date and time to call. Do you need; water main break, gas line leaks. power outages, lost dogs wandering? Just let me know so I can remind you on the phone as all your minds will worse than cottage cheese at that point when I call.
I am so lucky. I love my in laws. Now, when MY parents come to stay, that is a whole 'nother story. I am a wreck weeks before and a mess weeks after. Darn good thing they only come to visit twice a year. That is why I live on this side of Ohio and they are wwwaaayyy over in upstate NY.

Yeah, we are dysfunctional too (:tiptoe: ask me what I really think). And I hope that I have created enough happy memories that my kids will want to come home and bring everyone with them. All are welcome, inlaws, and outlaws. That's my hope anyway...

Right! You don't want it to snow and be stuck in a place where you are not wanted!!!! What a horrible thought! If I was stuck at my Fathers house and snowed in, I think I would rather die! That's why I don't even go there, cause the thought of that happening just scares the !@$!$ out of me!!!!! :lmao:

If you can manage pulling the kids out the week before xmas is fabulous! We went from the the 14th to the 28th and it didn't get crowded until the weekend before xmas. Dec 15 - 22, 2007 looks good!
Or we can plan a scrap retreat for just the girls. SDV which is dreameventsinc.com at WDW 8/21 - 8/24, 2008 and 8/27 - 8/30, 2009.
Scrapping and WDW spouse and child free, who could ask for more???
We could plan this and if we did 4 to a room it wouldn't be terribly expensive at all. What do ya'll think?

Now, there's an idea. We have to get some company stuff back on track before I plan on spending any more money (when client's don't pay, it gets hard on the owners!) But if the first of the year is as good as it looks, I just might be in!

Let me talk to Mike..15-22 of Dec... I can have an answer for you by... the end of the holidays...

yes you can book as a local but see if it is cost effective. They do try to book the rooms in the convention center too. This past Aug the exceeded to size for the convention center at the Contemporary so they moved it to the Yacht Club. So we all had rooms at YC. If you stayed at say Boardwalk, using points, you would have to travel from BW to Contemporary to go to the crop and classes. I have a feeling though that they may end up booking YC again do to the amount of people who went this summer.
I'm skipping 2007 because it's in Sept and the kids are in school already. But 2008 may be doable for me. We will start school Aug 29 2007.

Hmm, how many people can you fit in a villa? Because someone here, mmm me, may just want to invite herself into your place. I could split the cost of points and you could use the money for upkeep charges or whatever they call that.

Ya know, that isn't a bad idea...have to see what the points will be for 2008, and how many DH and I have left. It would be fun to have a big villa with lots of us though :teeth: (I snore so not sure who would want to bunk with me. I guess whoever gets the short straw)

I snore too!! And talk in my sleep. I don't mind bunking up either. I just looked at the calendar and our school start date for 2008 is Aug 27 so I could definitely swing that trip.
As for xmas vs halloween, DH is more keen on xmas. I'm flexible either way but xmas gives me more time to save some $$$. Doing WDW in March, Mini meet in July and maybe trying to squeeze in CKC Valley Forge in July makes money tight. I can skip CKC and just drive up to CKC Manchester instead.
Decisions Decisions.......

I think a DIS ladies scrap trip would be fantastic! I'd brave the August heat for that!
I'll bunk with a snorer - I can sleep through anything! My DH needs to sleep with an industrial strength fan and "white noise" on the CD player every night so that has trained me to be a very deep sleeper. I was on vacation once and the hotel had a fire alarm go off in the middle of the night - I didn't even budge. There was a massive explosion at a factory one town over from us right before Thanksgiving (luckily no one was hurt) - people could feel/hear it 30 miles away. DH woke up but again, I never even stirred.

You know, I was really thinking of skipping CKC Manchester this year because I'm strongly leaning toward doing CKU Orlando in the fall, but I just went online to look at the classes they're offering for the earlier CKC in Portland and they look so much better than last year! I was telling myself I wouldn't take a day off for it but now my decision just got a lot harder! My two measly personal days a year just don't stretch far enough!

Missing are Lisa Bearnson classes? Does she add her's last?
Is it worth staying in the Valley Forge Scanticon Hotel, anyone have a review? Or would it be better staying down the road at the Comfort Suites?

Lisa Bearnson doesn't go to every CKC. Last year at Manchester we didn't have any "celebrities" that I had ever heard of.
Last year my two favorite instructors (that I would take almost any class from again) were Tina Masterjohn from Little Black Dress Designs and Katherine Brooks from Deluxe Designs. Since taking her class I've seen Katherine Brooks' name as the author of a few books, so I guess she's sort of famous.

I heard the convention center hotel was pretty dumpy though. I stayed down the road at the Hilton it wasn't very nice either but it was free with DH's points. There are plenty of hotels to choose from too.

I guess it depends on how you define worth it. :) It isn't the best hotel I've ever stayed in but it isn't that bad either. My MIL and I found it great to stay on site (I actually live 15 min away) so that we could go to the evening crops and she could go to bed and I could stay longer. If we drove, that would be tougher. In the end, we were just in the room to sleep, so I didn't care so much about some of the extras.
We will probably go to CKC again and we will stay on site again. Hopefully, no power outages will occur and it will be like a vacation. :rolleyes1

I was thinking all I really need is a bed anyway, so it would probably be easier to stay at the hotel. Also, it makes a place to crash for a break. It is cheaper than the other places not connected to the convention that I just got quotes for. Did you like the evening crops?
As for the power outage...crossing my fingers about that too...

We have gone for 2 years now and done all four Fri and Sat crops. The Fri one is much more crowded and rowdy. Contests, give aways, stuff like that. Sat is much calmer and quieter. I get stuff done at the crops, so we'll probably go again.
The group rate seems pretty cheap to me. $107 for the night. I split it with my MIL so it is really reasonable. I guess, if I drove home, that would be free, but that defeats the "Mommy is currently unavailable for refereeing any squabbles, arguments or discussions" concept I have that weekend! :teeth:

Yeah, I thought $107 was good, especially if I can get my friend to come with and split it. I'm still not sure about the crop, you really get stuff finished? I can just see me being a social butterfly and not getting a thing done...but that might be worth it too...hmmmmm :hyper2: I guess alot of people leave after the last class on Sat, That's what I was planning on doing, and saving the room fee... have to see what the funds are...
