oooh! after eights - yummy, we're another lot who consider them xmas-only chocs. A bit like Terrys Chocolate oranges and matchmakers - they only seem to come out at xmas too!
For me though - my mums roast dinner! (I don't eat a roast at all the rest of the year so I look forward to my mums :thumbsup2 )

Shortbread. I haven't had any since last january, and in fact Christmas time last year I got back into them! I loved and loved to eat them. But one day I got bored and haven't eaten one in a while. So looking forward to our relatives coming round so I can get some gingerbread, even if my cousins are annoying!! :lmao:
I like Christmas Dinner too although I am always stuck on the kiddie table with my cousin.. :rotfl2: Now that Christmas is around our house I am determined not to be stuck with him! Even if that means sticking with my Auntie which is more annoying then they are!! :rotfl2: But alas, it's christmas time. The one time of year you have to put up with them.. ;)

I love the Guerlain chocolate sea shells, and we only get a box at Xmas, they are a real treat for me
I'm putting After Eights on the shopping list! I also love Turkey and stuffing and bread sauce - don't think my MIL usually does the bread sauce. That's it - I'm cooking chicken or turkey and the rest New Year's Day!

This thread's got me thinking - there are certain things which used to be for 'Christmas only' which we can get all year round these days. That's both good and bad. Dates spring to mind. My Gran always had a box of 'Eat Me' dates at Christmas. These days I get the gorgeous medjool dates, but they're not 'special' - I can have them any time. The same goes for shell-on nuts. Other reminders of Christmases past are Apricot and Cherry Brandy, Snowballs, New Berry Fruits, liquor chocolates, turkish delight, home-boiled ham, my Mum's mince pies and sausage rolls - making them was always a Christmas Eve tradition. Oh, and licking clean the Christmas cake bowl! :teeth:
The answer to the question, for me, has to be turkey. In this country turkeys are primarily bred for Christmas. Other than the foil tray breast roasts and Bernard Mathews reconstituted turkey burgers, we don't really have turkey in the UK other than at Christmas. I also love bread sauce and, because it would never occur to me to have it with anything other than turkey, it's a once-a-year treat.

Gosh Deb, that brought back a few memories for me as well then, my grandmother always had dates for Christmas, and My mum always bought a bag of mixed nuts with the shells on and a new nutcracker every year as my dad would always end up breaking it. Also another thing we used to have a lot of in our house was Snowballs, that advocaat yellow stuff. :goodvibes

What are After Eights? :listen:
After Eights are God's gift to me :teeth: They are the most delicious dark chocolate mints in the world and are partly the reason that my behind is so huge!!!
I'm mostly looking forward to yummy brussel sprouts (which i'm cooking this year with grilled pancetta and shallots) and christmas pudding with custard. Those are probably the only two things I only eat around Christmas time!
I hope you all have a wonderful delicious Christmas meal!!! :yay:

I had a snowball last night :thumbsup2 it was in a fit of abigails-party-style nostalgia! yum, I'd forgotton how nice they are.
I agree with the shell on nuts though, and dates were always xmas-only fodder. My dad used to crack the nuts using just his bare hands - It was his party trick :rotfl2:

I've looked at them, but what makes After Eights, IMHO, is that they're wafer thin (or 'waffer' as we like to say in our house :teeth: ). I will admit to quite liking the white chocolate ones and I have bought a box of the new milk chocolate ones this year, but not opened them yet.

They're Advocaat (which is made with egg yolks) mixed with lemonade. I could probably force one down for nostalgia's sake. :teeth:

I can't think of anything we have that isn't around all year. I buy a turkey every few weeks and I often make a few Christmas Puddings in the summer. This year we're having a Chocolate Christmas Pudding from Hotel du Chocolat, I have also bought an obscenely expensive box of quality chocolates from them, so maybe they will become the "Christmas only" things.

I am looking forward to having Vienetta ice cream at my mum and dad's. For some reason, I only ever have this when we go to my mum and dad's on Christmas day (every other year), and that always makes it extra special.
I will be turning down the sprouts though!
And Babycham, ooo, I could fancy one of those, it's years since I've had one.
