Transferring from joint names after death of husband

I hope someone can help me with the paperwork for transferring our DVC membership from joint names to my name after my husband died earlier this year. I have had a letter from DVC asking for a copy of the death certificate and for me to sign an affidavit in the presence of a notary public. It says 'The Notary Public signs, inserts the date, impresses their Notary seal or stamp.' Can anyone tell me what is a Notary Public? If anyone has had to transfer from joint to single names could they please tell me what they had to do? Thanks in advance for any information.

So sorry for your circumstances.

I would guess that you will need to see a solicitor to do the affidavit in the UK since we don't have the equivalent of a Notary Public.

I'm sure that if someone actually knows, they will wade in soon. Good luck with it. :)

A Notary Public has to be a Solicitor, but not all Solicitors are Notary Publics if that makes sense (or at least, that's been my understanding throughout 26 years in the banking profession). We do have Notary Publics, at least in the Isle of Man we do! Check with your local Law Society branch.

Thanks for your replys. I followed the link and found a couple of notarys in my area. They have both quoted the same price - about £60 for 20 mins - to do this for me in case anyone else needs their services.
