View Full Version : Is this a new policy for down payments??
Yesterday I called Disney (the passholders #) and made a room-only reservation for January 2007. It is our first time going that time of year (sshhh..it's a secret 4-night trip for dd's 8th bd!) and I am very nervous about snowstorms and getting sick and other things that would result in us missing out on the trip. I had a real nice CM and she told me that if we cancelled our reservation before 5 days prior they would credit our credit card with the deposit amount. BUT..if we had to cancel even that day, they could credit the deposit to our next stay. I thought that was pretty good. Is that a new policy?? If so, what's the point of having trip insurance??

The ap discounts are booked as a room only reservation and trip insurance is not available on room only reservation only on packages where you have to pay the balance 45 days in advance

Disney as well as some other resorts came out with a new policy this summer b/c of weather (think hurricaine cancellations). Sounds like they have officially extended it to snow storms too.
Insurance, which is on a package covers a lot of other things. One of the big advantages IMHO to the insurance in bad weather is if you are already in Florida and your home has bad weather. Last February I spent an extra night at WDW as EWR was closed. Insurance (from Disney Travel Company) will cover $200 per adult per night, up to 3 nights for room, meals and lodging. This works great for a family at POP ($400 for the hotel, food and extras) but is not obviously going to cover everything for a family at a deluxe.
There are many other benefits....lost luggage, medical, early ending of a trip, etc.
Trip insurance, like any other insurance, is playing the odds or not.
Glad they could help you

If you need to cancel within the 5 day window, when you're on the phone with the CM move the dates of your trip out into the future beyond the 5 day window. Make another call and cancel you're new reservation. You can't do both in the same call though.
