Info in case anyone wants to stay near Escondido for the Wildlife Park (part of the San Diego Zoo).
We are spending Memorial Day at the Wildlife Park.
$54 a night seems to be a magic number for us. With my Super 8 discount, that's what the three star Super 8 costs that is 12 miles from the park. (Sunday night, holiday weekend. I would say that's pretty good.)
In comparison, I called Holiday Inn Express. I was quoted $102.60, then $99 per night. (Rep acting like $99 was a super deal  )
HIE is 6 miles closer, but certainly not worth the extra $.
(Breakfast incl at both.)

Now girl thats a great deal. We love the Catamaran Ressort in San Diego and i'm paying a healthy $279 for 2 nights but that does include tax. Yieks ha. Oh well there only there 5\11-5\12 checking out on Mothers Day but this hotel is worth it cause of memories. I guess quote for the day should be make memories in less expensive places. Hey i posted a call to you. Check it out. Have fun, Lisa Hey when your in San Diego check out the Rusty pelician for lunch or dinner on the beach and great food.

Looks very nice. Should be a very nice location. I love all the open courts and flowers in S.D. Your only problem should be leaving the resort!
Have you gone on one of those boat cruises? Most hotels have a flyer/coupon rack and you can get 50% discount coupons for the cruises.
May '99, we went on the regular bay cruise. In January '00, we went on a whale watching (whale stalking) cruise.
For two, with the discount coupon, the prices are VERY reasonable! We only paid $21.50 for us both to go on the whale watching cruise.

For a cruise of the San Diego Bay try www.hornblower.com. (http://www.hornblower.com.) They offer evening dinner cruises, Sunday Champagne Cruise and various cruises around the harbor. I have tried the dinner cruise and would recommend it to anyone.

We did a mission bay cruise once it was nice. But at the hotel there we always rent a sail boat my DH thinks hes a great navigator. But once he almost had our boat veritical said he was tacking or somthing, alls i know is one minute our feet were in the water and the next it was our thighs! But we always let him talk us into this. Thanks for the infolink I'll check it out. I know for sure will do Baboba park and trolley tour.We wont do seaworld cause we just did sea world and discovery cove in december. We want to take our DD whos10 into Mexico but that does make me nervous will have to see how nerotic i feel by then. Lisa

Tijuana visitors just need to use caution, as they should anywhere really.
We always park the car on the U.S. side and take that bus over to the main drag in Tijuana. I think the bus is only $1 PP each way. Something like $5 to park.
We were even there when it was dark. (In January, when it gets dark early.)
Cops were patrolling all over. But with the stories you hear about the Mexico cops... Nuff said. (I heard that the most popular stolen vehicle in San Diego is the most used cop vehicle in Tijuana. Truth ?? Hhhhmmm...)
I have also heard that Mexico wants to keep the tourists safe in Tijuana. Tijuana officials know if there was any trouble directed at tourists, Tijuana's income from tourists would decrease drastically.
I can honestly say I have been more nervous at night in some places in Chicago more than Tijuana.

Just expect some things:
1) You will have a greater appreciation for the states
2) Street vendors will say anything to drag you in their stores. Some stores, the ones we go into, don't try to talk you in and have posted signs stating they will not lower their prices. I never tried getting them to do so. The prices are very reasonable.
3) If you buy from a street vendor or another store, don't be surprised if you can get the item for half of what the original price was.
4) I used my debit cards on both trips there. (Only in the stores that don't talk you inside.) Drop the last zero on the price they ring up. Example: $23 will look like $230.
5) Hard Rock Cafe is there if you want American food/drink. And just like Chicago, there will be restroom attendees. So take a buck with you! ;)
