Okay, I have to write this enormous paper on School uniforms. And as a part of my paper, I would like to include different age groups point of view about Mandatory School Uniforms.
So please let me know why you are for or against them.
*I could ask adults this question all day and all night, but to be honest, it's you guys that are effected by it not them. Also, I'm kinda biased about the whole topic myself becaues I've worn school uniforms since I was in kindergarden....so I really don't have an opinion on this.*
Let me know!

My high-school doesn't have uniforms but my grade school did and they sucked. They were really uncomfortable and everybody looked the same which was weird.

I'm really not sure what I think. I always used to think school uniforms was a bad idea, but now I'm kind of half and half. I've seen some of the catholic school uniforms around here and the girls have to wear these really ugly plaid skirts, high socks, and a shirt. I would never want to wear something like that to school.
The good thing about uniforms though is that you don't have to wake up in the morning and run around figuring out what to wear. And you don't have to worry about whether or not your clothes are in style, because everyone else will be wearing the same thing as you.

my old school made us wear these ugly uniforms that i hated. but my new school just makes us wear the chool shirt.
there are several different shirts too. so i am ok with it if it is liked my new school.

I go to a private school and we don't have uniforms but we do have a very strict dress code. The dress code seems to work so i think that as long as people are following the dress code then they shouldn't be forced to spend additional money on something that can't wear anywhere else.
If you wanna ask me anything else (like about my school's dress code) PM me or email me at babybluefan16@excite.com

Personally, I love my uniform! It's not bad at all- a white polo shirt and either gray plaid or blue skirt- it's just great not having to worry about what to wear in the morning and since everyone is wearing the same thing there's no "well she has good clothes- she must be cool" "she has bad clothes- she must be a loser" kind of thing...
Hope that helped! :)

I have never worn a uniform, but daughter_of_amid_chaos and I both go to similar (rival ;)) private schools in the same area, and my school has a strict dress code as well. I personally wish I did have a uniform, for the reasons that AFgirl mentioned. :)

I think I feel about the same way as ShuisFan. I used to totally hate the idea of school uniforms, but now I realize that there are some good things about them. It would be kind of nice to not be so worried about whether my clothes are "cool enough" everyday. But at the same time, I'd kinda miss being able to go to school and feel really good because I'm wearing my new jeans, or because my crush said he liked my shirt or something. And I'd hate going shopping for clothes I could only wear on the weekends. So I don't really know if I'm for or against them.

oh i forgot to mention- we have free dress every friday- that is, we can wear "business" dress- so no jeans, 'revealing' clothing, that kinda thing... so you still do get to wear 'normal clothes'
I also forgot to mention that i go to an all girl school, so maybe that's why i don't care that i have a uniform b/c it doesn't really matter to what i look like since it's all girls! :)

I think that school uniform is a good idea, because if everyone is dressed the same, then everyone is (or at least should be) treated as equals. Too many people these days judge you by your appearance-it's not really very fair.:( :) School uniform can reduce bullying etc., so in that respect it's good. However, my old school did allow 'non-school uniform days' on special occasions. My old uniform was a yellow polo shirt, grey skirt, black tights and bottle green sweatshirt. The colours made me feel a bit sick but they were decided by one of the art teachers so what do you expect?!

I have never worn then, and I would never want to. The only thing is i think they are good, only if its not me wearing one!

It seems a lot of private schools seem to be doing including my first grade school that originally had no uniform code. Do some of the public schools do it or not?

well i probably wouldnt like them, but i would in a way. you wouldnt have to pick out clothes to wear, or worry that you wear a certain pair or pants too often, cuz no one would know!i think it would a good idea for our school,as long as no one knows it is my idea lol.

We just had a huge debate in my township about whether the schools should have a "dress code" or not (no jeans, only collared shirts.....etc). The township was going to vote on it...the kids at my school are TOTALLY against any type of uniform. Thankfull it was decided no "dress code." I'm against uniforms, if we were going to have them next year I'd switch schools, even though it'd be my senior year. You can't give someone this freedom for all these years, and then suddenly take it away from them. Alright....that's enough from me.

I have never had one at my school. I think that in a way they would be good because you wouldnt have to worry about what you are wearing and if it is "in" or not, but then you would also get sick of wearing the same thing everyday. We have a dress code at my school but you can wear jeans and t-shirts..just have to tuck in your shirt and shorts have to be 2 in above your knee and no tank-tops. Its not as strick as the one at the at the private school here.

i dont agree w/ uniforms, clothes r an expression of my individuality, and i think thats its stoopid(purpose) 2 have 2 wear the same thing.

I see nothing wrong with school uniforms except: each student should have a few amnesty days because there will always be a few times the uniform needs mending or is not clean.
About ten years ago my local newspaper ran a story about boys, girls, and even teachers wearing tank tops and short shorts and there were parents and school administration pushing for a dress code.
