Howdy, This may be rather long and I will add a few pictures afterwards.

Ok we live about 90 minutes from the port so we usually go over on saturday morning for our cruises. but this time we decided to go on Friday and spend the night at the Radisson.
We did meet 3 other dis board people there which was great fun.

The hotel was very clean, the pool and courtyard were very nice and their lunches were worth the money and large portions.
However, breakfast and dinner you will be better off going to McDonalds or Zachery's right next door, unless you dont mind spending a lot for your meals.
Plus the beds were like a slab of concrete, at least in our room.
None of us got any rest all night.

But upon going outside we could stand by our car and see the smoke stacks of the Magic just beckoning us to come and get on ASAP!!! So we put on our bright lime green T-Shirts that our dis board group was wearing and left for the Magic.
The hotel was 4 minutes and 13 seconds from our hotel, so we arrived at 10:02 and went right in.

I stood right inside the door waiting for Dh to park the truck. While I waited I had 8 dis board families stop and introduce themselves to me. I was so surprized they all knew who i was. We all posted pictures, but many didn't look like their pictures, i guess I did. That was so fun and exciting for me.

Finally we went in and got boarding pass #3 which was great. Before we knew it there was a sea of lime green shirts in the terminal all gathered together laughing and having a good time. We took pictures and chatted til time to board. Many of the ladies had tiaras on, i forgot mine :sad2: but I guess that is just the way it goes sometimes.
soon they called numbers one and two so I quickly grabbed my bag and met my family and boarded the Magic, then quickly went up to the buffet where I discovered my camera was gone

I went to guest services but nobody had turned one in. Then they said I could go back into the terminal and board again with a proper security tag , so I talked with security and managed to get back through the crowds of hundreds of people going the other direction, but NO camera!! I did run into another diser which was nice.

So back to the buffet, DH re assured me we would just buy another camera, but I kept thinking all my dis board family pictures were on it and cant be replaced, plus our meet would be over before shutters opened up to buy a camera.
Finally at 1:00 we were suppose to have an adult meet at Signals bar before our family meet at 3. I didnt really feel like visiting but as we walked by on deck 10 I waved to disers there and Bob (AKA Tiggerking) held up my camera!!! He was my hero :worship: for the entire trip!! It had fallen out of my bag by his feet, but He couldnt catch me in the line to tell me.
THANKS AGAIN BOB !!!

By now it was time to check out our room with a navigators verandah,it was very nice and Bob and Lisa were our neighbors!!!

Now I am not going to go day by day or it would take a week to read this. I will now just hit the highlights of the cruise.

Our dis board meet in the Promenade lounge was AWESOME!!! we counted 63 of us. we did manage to get one picture of all of us and hopefully Bob will post it soon for all of us to see. we had a gift exchange for Christmas too.
It was so much fun to meet everyone after all the months of chatting on the cruise meets thread. We were called the wild turkeys and dancing banana heads. A very CRAZY, FUN group!!!

We had our own musical group which should be hitting the top ten soon on the charts!! They were called Tiara Bob and the Dreamboats!! They sang at Karoake while we all cheered and waved!!!! They had their own groupies!!!

I thought they did GREAT considering they had never sang together until then, in fact they had never met before the cruise either. That was really fun.

Ok, it did sprinkle enough they had to move the sail away party inside, so I didnt go. I have gone before inside and didnt care for it. I know they dont have much to work with in the atrium and they do the best they can.

After dinner we went to the tree lighting ceremony. It was fun and everyone was singing along and started to cheer as the characters threw pixie dust on the tree to light it up!! But then it was so quiet you wouldnt believe it, we all just stood and starred at the tree which didnt light up and the snow didnt come :sad2: Slowly we all shuffled off to do our own thing. Very disappointing for all. But these things do happen.

All the shows were great. Lynn Trefzger a ventriliquoist was great !!! Very funny!! John Charles also performed and was great. Some of you who may of gone to WDW a few years ago and saw the Golden Horse shoe revue will recognize him as the singing sheriff in that show. Rich Purpura and Taylor Mason another Ventriloquest came later in the week.
The stage shows are always very good.

Ok, now for the band, Ntwine. I hate to say it but they were terrible!! They were off key several times and the songs they sang were apropriate for 16 to 25 year olds, which would be ok, accept in the clubs the average age was 45, most were older and didnt relate to any of the songs.

We went into the club when they were performing and only 4 people were there, but as the cabaret show time was getting close the club would fill up and then empty out pretty good after it was over,so when they performed it was pretty well empty.
I do give the an A+ for effort but a D- for talent and and F for their selection of songs. They were not right for the audience they had. People all around us just shook their heads in disbelief that Disney would hire someone so bad and I agreee, i was very shocked.
They did connect with the little kids who danced in the Promenade lounge in the evenings, but in the clubs they really didnt have any rapor with the adults. They tired but just wernt right for the crowd, I did feel sorry for them.

They also sang in place of the steel drum band by the pools. It was the same problems. I really missed the steel drum band. The Caribbean music really set the mood for the cruise. After all we are on a Caribbean cruise, so why not the steel drum band to play???
So pretty much one band was breaking down into duos and trios and performing for all the music venues all week long. That was the BAD part of the cruise. After 13 cruises , this is the only time I have posted a bad report like this on a band, they usually have much better talent on board.

Enough of that complaining now, we did have great weather on the islands. warm enough for shorts most of the time, however we did get a sprinkle at St. Johns. We did the island tour there and saw 7 beautiful beaches and a couple sugar mills. It was a very good tour and a beautiful island to see. Very clean island.

St. Maartin we did a tour that was bus and ferry boat to Marigot for shopping. The excursion was very nice and relaxing, The entertainer on the boat part was excellant. I told DH Disney should of hired him to sing . He was very funny too.

CC had been predicted showers but we had clear blue skies and around 85 by afternoon. water was great!!
Bill even had a sting ray come up to him on the adult beach while wading around, it was his first encounter with one. AWESOME!!!
we had lunch at Serenity Bay because they had steaks there as well as burgers!!! YUMMY!!!

One night we tried out Topsiders for dinner and it was excellant and very quiet. Greg had a porterhouse steak which melted in his mouth. He has had many steaks over the years, but he said that was the BEST Porterhouse he has ever had.

All the dinners were great, but the choices of sugar free desserts was tiny and Dh didnt care for most of them, so Jeevan (head server) asked the chef to prepare some sugar free brownies for Dh which were great !! Thanks Jeevan.

Thursday night was the dessert buffet, which you can't possibly describe with words, the site alone will drive you crazy if your into desserts!!!! It is a must do, especially the chocolate fountain. AWESOME!!!

The ship was beautifully decorated for the holidays, so was CC. I loved the gingerbread house. They were still decorating it the first couple days of the cruise. it smelled heavenly!!!

Captain reception for repeat cruisers. Ok I cant comapare it to the way it use to be because I had never gone to it. We decided we should go this time to see what it was like. i had read about the cutbacks and changes, so we wanted to see for ourselves.

With having nothing to compare it to, i thought it was ok. You got to meet some of the staff and officers on board, and had a trivia part to fill out which helped you to get aquainted, plus you got to keep the pens you wrote with. There was coffee, pop and punch, cookies and mickey shaped rice krispy squares too that had the ears dipped in chocolate.
The Captain gave a short talk and then some kids got to draw out tickets to win a prize. It was a clock in a 5x4 inch silver metal block with clock in the center and DCL logo on it.
Very nice. It was cute, one little girl actually drew out her own name. There was no way she could of seen it so she got to keep the prize, which was good. Then they called my name, I was shocked to say the least. There were about a dozen disers sitting together and they all cheered and called my name as I went up to get my prize.

Pirate night was alot of fun, but it didnt go as smoothly as on past cruises for us. The traffic was heavy so our excursion got us back to the ship at 5:57 and our dinner was at 6:00. so I dashed and threw on my costume and then discovered that our safe wouldnt lock, so I called to get it fixed(2 nd time this cruise) Ok, everyone else had gone to pirates dinner while I sat and waited for maintenance to show up. Too much stuff to just leave it open.
It was 8 before he came and fixed it. dinner was over :sad2: .

So I just walked around, because the time to get pictures with captain jack was gone too!! Plus I could really feel my cold setting in and I had almost lost my voice. I did see may dis people in great outfits as I wondered around. Then it was party time!! It was a lot of fun, just before the fireworks I zipped own on deck 4 to watch them in all the quiet my head needed by this point. They were great!!!
I did look at the buffet but we didnt go to it. It looked great!!

We did all the usual stuff, like art of entertaining series, trivia a few times, ice carving, karoake and we made a gingerbread house too. Remmeber if your going to do the gingerbread house building you must sign up for it at guest services.
There are only 2 times they do it and it is limited space each time. I would strongly suggest you go the first day to sign up if you going during the Christmas season to insure you get to do this. Plus you cant bring it home, you either eat it or throw it away or give it away because Customs wont let you bring it off the ship.

some movies playing were Santa Claus3, De Ja vue, the Guardian, The Prestige, cars, POC dead man chest, and a few others which I cant remember right now, there were 11 movies in all.

we did have rough seas for a couple of days. The Captain announced that it was 20 foot waves even though the TV said 13 foot. He said the stabilizers didnt do any good since the waves were hitting us broadside instead of head on, That is why we were rockin and rolling so much. I loved it, it was fun and made it easy to sleep. However I did feel bad for those who got ill. The dining rooms were pretty empty a couple of nights.

We dont like the new format for the Navigators. too hard to figure out what is happening. Hope they will bring back the old style someday.

We did roam every hallway looking for door signs and saw some awesome ones. Way to go everyone!!! :thumbsup2

One thing we have never had happen before was one day they delivered 2 gift certificates from the Spa manager for Rainforest treatments for both of us. I think they might of been trying yo be extra nice since I am the one who started the letters coming about the changes in entertainments on this board. We didnt get to use them, but we did appreciate the gift.
Plus right after we got in our room the Manager of house keeping came to us and introduced herself and wanted to make sure everything was perfect in our room, and she said to call her if we had any problems at all.

If anyone has had either of these things happen to them I would appreciate you telling me. I am still trying to figure it out. They couldnt tell me why the gift certificates were given to us when I asked??

so basically we did have a great time, due a lot to the other disers we kept running into all week long, You guys were AWESOME!!!!

I know there is a lot I didnt write about, but feel free to ask any questions and I will try to answer. I did bring home all my navigators so I can look things up if I need to.

I will post pictures soon.

We really miss the Steel Drum Band as well. We used to spend alot of time on deck and they were so nice to listen to all day.

I agree with you about the band NTwine. We were on the Oct 21st sailing and we were hoping they were bad because they were new. We saw them in the Promenade Lounge and they were still trying to learn the music. I guess not much as improved since then. I hate that! A live band makes a big difference in the shows at night.

We are going again in March and hoping for a better group! Maybe enough of us complain about the Steel Drum Band and they'll bring it back. I sent a letter, but of course got the standard reply.

Glad you had a good time.

Great report Kathy!! And the pictures are wonderful as well!

I LOVED walking past the gingerbread house! It smelled sooooooo good (until the last night when the smell of sickness was lingering).

Looking forward to seeing you again next November!!!!!

I agree with you about the gingerbread house. It smelled so good when you walked by it. I wish I could go with you next Nov but I am not sure that will happen. We are probably going to WDW in the summer. This time we were gone for a total of 9 days. That is too much. I will miss you next year. I was also upset with our dining rotation. I was hoping for PLA instead we got APL. that was terrible. It was very awkward being in Parrot cay for formal night.

What did everyone else have. We had 5:30 dinner.

Great report Kathy: Since I am not a writer, glad you wrote a report.

Kathy was right, we had a great time, we all enjoyed meeting everyone from the Disboards, it made the cruise so much more fun running into people all over the ship.

This was my first cruise and what better way than share this experience with a bunch of nana heads.... :teeth: actually with a group of really great people.

Ditto! :confused3 I can't figure out why they would not have a steel drum band. :confused3 That is such a HUGE part of your at sea days around the pool.

Joyce was our main server
Sorry I am a blank for the assistant server. I will have to ask DH his name, he will know.

They were the best team we have ever had in my opinion.

P.S. for those who have said they agree we need the steel drum band, please write DCL and tell them and if your going on a cruise soon, put that on your comment card too.

I totally agree with your review of Ntwine! I complained about them too one night when Keyon (one of the head cruise staff people) asked me why we were leaving the party. I could not listen to them long enough to even be able to comment on their song choice. Each time I heard them they went off key so many times I could not stay to hear more than 1 1/2 songs.

You are so right that with Disney, you would have expected better musical entertainment. :confused3

We've never heard the steel drum band (but I LOVE that kind of music). We did our first DCL out of CA, and I guess it would not have fit with the Mexican Riviera as well as it does with the Caribbean.

Kathy,...thanks for the link,..sent them 2 glorious compliments, and them WOW'd em with my 2 complaints :teeth:

steel drums and navigators. Hope it helps. :thumbsup2

One night while I was picking up my daughter from lab, we had missed something on the NAV, and a CM commented that they get that alot and to PLEASE complain about it, as they TOO hate the new ones.
I thought that was very odd, I have not ever heard a CM make a negitive satement,..they must really not like the new ones. I OF COURSE did not refer to her when I made my opinon known.

Just thought I would share that here with you all.

That was a great report, and was very nice of DCL to give you the spa certificates! :thumbsup2 I was quite enchanted with the spa, as was my DH...

Well.... I complained almost :rotfl2: as much as you about the lack of a good band.... and only received a letter when I returned from our cruise ... so lucky you! I REALLY hope DCL is listening about the bands. We only had a DJ on our Wonder cruise, no band at all... and they tried to imitate the Backstreet Boys :confused3 !!

Anyway, I still don't understand why DCL can't at least have a steel drum band on CC - an authentic Bahamian one. They bring over the hair braiders and some other staff to work the island from Marsh Harbour each day either of the ships are in port (3-4 days a week).... why can't they also bring a 2-3 person steel drum band too to play on the island at least? I just don't get it.

This is where the disconnect between WDW and DCL is so apparent.

That being said... i'm booked again in Feb... :Pinkbounc

Kathy-
It was great to read your trip report. I am so jealous that you went again so soon. We don't get to go again until next Thanksgiving. :sad1: Oh well, it sounds like things have changed a great deal since August. I just love the steel drums. How were the changes to the rooms? Are the beds nice and how about the new tolietries?

McCourtney,
I think from what I heard and saw on board about the others thoughts on the band situation that DCL will have to do soemthing soon or they are going to loose many repeat guests.
I over heard many conversations where people were very unhappy about the band Ntwine and the lack of the Steel Drum Band. Plus they didnt like the fact that one band did all the music venues. No variations in music and talent.

So I will keep my fingers crossed that they change by our next 2 cruises, if not they will most likely be our last.

Be sure and post a report when you return and again write to DCL after your cruise and fill out those comment cards too!!!

Marypoppinsiam,
I couldnt tell any difference in the bed. It was very comfortable, a susual for us.
I didnt like the smell of the new toiletry items, but the lotions did feel great!!!They absorbed quickly and did leave your skin very soft. The smell doesnt last long, so I did use it often.
I didnt try the shampoo, so cant comment on that.

I guess we will be "lucky" enough to have this band on our cruise in 3 weeks. This will be the second REALLY bad band we have experienced. The first cleared the bar and deck party in a matter of minutes. Its a shame when people get up and leave because the band is so awful--the previous band we had was painful to listen to--it was in 2004, so i don't remember their name at all.

Could someone please look at the tag and let me know what brand those babies are? :cloud9:

I have to agree with mom/grandmax4,.. :guilty: I did not like the smell of the H2O products except for the body butter... It is GREAT. :goodvibes
Really keeps the skin soft. You can purchase the product line H2O in the store on ship, and they have other fragrances available...that are better imho.

I did use the shampoo, I was so happy that they were offering this new line that I didn't take my own shampoo,...mistake!
I hated the smell, and I had a really hard time managing my hair after useing it. :confused3 I ended up barrowing a family members just so I could have "normal" hair. I may just be an odd ball,.. :teeth: I'm sure there are others who love it.

sorry to hear you'll have the same band too. Be sure to write on your comment card how you feel about it. If you dont have enough room, take a piece of stationairy from your room and write it out and put in the suggestion box with your comment card. That is what I did. I just folded it inside the comment card and dropped it in and I did sign it too.

Of course I will!

Also, my suggestion of the steel drum band for CC, would save DCL $$ since they would not have to pay accomodations for the band and could pay them on a per day basis only, depending on how many stops the Wonder or Magic made per week, and both ships could enjoy them.

Kathy, thanks for the report and pics. They made DH decide that our camera wasn't good enough when he saw the Pics from CC! Jeevan was our server in '03 and we saw him again in '04 and that he had been promoted to Head Server. He said he recognized DH but not me! Geez! Kidding. I know they have a lot of people to remember. Even people that I've known for years sometimes don't recognize me w/out DH around. Strange. We didn't see him around in Aug. Must've been on break. He was great though. He said in '03 that the people at the table next to us were on their 17th cruise (way back then) and that they always requested him. Glad you had fun.

We were on the Eastern cruise 10/28/06 - 11/04/06 We had a GREAT TIME.

Our servers were the best we have ever had,...out of 7 DCL trips for
my inlaws, and 3 DCL trips, 3 RC trips and 1 Carnival for myself & my
husband.
PLease let it be know that table 59 servers Mahendra & Ana were
Excellant servers, and their head server as well! THE BEST period.

Our cabin steward Tabbah,..was equally the BEST CS we have ever had!
I would request these wonderful people for every other cruise. please
let this be known.

NOw for our request:
WE MISS THE STEEL DRUM BAND!!! PLease bring them back! What's a
cruise with out the steel drums?

WE MISS THE ORIGINAL NAVIGATORS!!! PLease bring them back as well.
The new ones are horrible!!!

Thank you for your consideration in these matters.
Loyal DCL patrons,

Thanks for sharing. that was a better letter than we received before.
I am going to write tomarrow to DCL about our trip, the good and the bad both, as you did.
I write everytime we cruise, I probably have a thick file somewhere with my letters in it.

we just need to keep telling them how we feel. It is like you said, if enough people comment, they will listen.

Thanks "Mom" for the TR/Review. I love steel drums, and look forward to hearing them on every cruise. I will let DCL know my opinion, too!

Re: Housekeeping management coming to your cabin. We stayed in 6512 (cat 8) during '02, '03, & '04. At least twice (we're still debating/trying to remember '02) housekeeping management came to our cabin at the beginning of the cruise. We've always been very pleased with our cabin stewards, and let DCL know our thoughts in post cruise letters.

Plutospup,
Thanks for the house keeping info. After 13 cruises it had never happened to me before. Maybe deck 6 is the magic deck where they try to meet people??

Anyway it was a nice touch, but Rudolfo was a great room host, so no problems at all with that.

Thanks for writing, Kathy! Your photos are great!!!

THe head housekeeper called us twice during the cruise - to find out if the changed bedding had helped my asthma and to apologize for the down pillows that triggered it in the first place. Theoretically, down pillows should only be supplied upon request, otherwise synthetic used. The down pillows did not have tags. The two kinds of synthetic did - one fluffy fiberfill, and the other memory foam. They also washed my sheets in hot water only - no soap - in case the detergent was a factor. I was impressed.

Concerning the music - I was in the promenade lounge on the computer one day and the lone male singer was so bad, I got up and left. Never found out who he was. Then there were two young asian women, who didn't sound bad, were great with the kids, and had some decent synchronized moves. They introduced themselves as ntwine.

Then at the adult pool, overheard terrible LOUD 'music' from the goofy pool - drove me away from there too. At the very least it would be nice to have something you could 'tune out' but that crap was so loud it was impossible. Are we saying that was all the same group? Hate to complain about something including the good bit, but the bad bits STUNK!

PS. If anyone reading this knows anyone who was on this cruise - PLEASE ask them if they've seen my missing map! I need help to find my precious souvenier of 4 cruises, that was apparently delivered to the wrong cabin (on deck 2, we were on deck 6) and has not been returned. It was a map of the caribbean, about the size of a road map, with the courses of all four of my cruises plotted on it. A PM would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes Linda, it was all one band!! They just split up to cover all the areas of the ship. They use to have different people in each area which was great. i ageee especially in the Promenade lounge they were not only bad they were too loud!!

I expect loud music in Rock n Bar D, but the Promenade has always been a little quieter with former duos in there, such as Don and Tommie and Ben and Dana. Don and Tommie always did old time rock n roll, and Jimmy Buffet, Johnny Rivers, all the songs went along with the age of the majority of their audience. Ntwine's songs were geared towards a much younger audience. The old duos also connected with the kids great too !!! I want them to bring back those type of entertianers again. That is why I keep writing to them.

I sure hope someone finds your map!!!

Linda,
So sorry to hear about the missing map! My daughter also had a map her grandpa got for her from AAA, it is her PRIDE & JOY!
SHe had it signed by all the CM's she came into contact with and if it had gotten lost it would have been traggic. I sure hope someone knows something, and you get it back.

Kathy, you probably got the spa cert. just for cruising so many times. I'm sure that's what it is. Too bad you didn't get a chance to use it. I really think they know exactly how many cruises you've been on. When we cruised in '04, we were on number 5 and our tablemates all had 5, 6, and 6 cruises under their belts. We thought it was pretty cool that we were all put together at one table.
