So that's why I couldn't find it. Duh! :lmao: I'll go back in.

Yes, by all means - let me at him! I'll talk his ear off about DVC. We just became members this year. I already have add-on-itis and I THOUGHT I bought enough points to keep me happy for a few years.

We're getting in really late on the 20th. We were able to snag CL to boot! Honestly, it was the only 1 bdrm available. I'm surprised it turned out to be CL. We hadn't really planned on booking it, but it popped up and I can't resist it. We'll be having dinner @ Jiko's that night. No parks this go around. MIL and SIL are not AP holders. We'll be checking out the mini-golf course instead.

When would you like me to commence talking ear off your husband about DVC? I showed my DH what we spend on deluxe vacations each year X 57 years. Then I showed him the initial price plus the estimated annual dues each year. The amount could be staggering. He told me I went enough to do it. :thumbsup2 Now, I didn't go into this blind. I was weary about staying in DVC. Will it feel the same? Most of my trips have been on strictly CL at the deluxes. I rented points for BWV and stayed at CSR. I LOVED them both. Then my DVC friend put me up in a 2 bdrm villa @ BC. That was it! I was sold. No further explanations were needed for me.

I'm actually taking my sister's family next year. They won't have to pay for any lodging. I am stoked being able to offer her an affordable deluxe trip for her and the kiddos! Just imagine providing special treats for your family in the future?

What else do you want me to throw out him? :rolleyes1

Oh, geeezzzzzzzz, I'm in FE h*ll. I started working on mine today and it stinks! It's crooked, and the heat and bond... well let's just say I am going to have to do some sewing! Not sure how this will all turn out.

I like the lanyard idea, but to be honest (hope this doesn't offend anyone) I really don't care for the "Traveling Turkeys" logo. :0) If you decide to do something else, I might be interested.

I have my FE items just about ready. At least there is one thing down! I need to get working on my magnets, pillowcases and t-shirts that we'll wear to the Christmas party.

I just read on the Magic in drydock yet? thread that CAT 12's will be upgraded to sleep 4. I guess it's just a rumor, but I thought I'd pass it along.

Doesn't offend me at all, just shows you my lack of creativity, which is also why I was looking for pre-made FE gifts. I'm open for any suggestions.

Sorry your FE isn't going right. I didn't even try to make one that took any skill (see above).

Well, Brandon had a good day today for his first day at a new school. I'll be there tomorrow (I'm the technology teacher there), so I'll feel a lot better about it tomorrow. I just want to fast forward (about 11 weeks;) ) and then I'll feel a lot better!

I just saw a thread on the regular threads about the Magic in Norfolk. A lady has some awesome pics posted. She said she'll post every couple of days. I like the photos so much, I saved them in my pictures. I may use some of them in our scrapbook. Some Before-during-and now photos.

If my counting is correct, we'll be the 9th group to sail after the drydock.

I'm a bit confused - what is CL ?

CL = concierge level. I have yet to stay CL because we use our points for the Grand Villas too much. (If that's really possible.)

VAGal - we've already added on twice. I'd add on resale for HHI again if we had the money. We now own 400 points and are borrowing points from the next year. Since we live nearby, we take a bunch of little weekend trips. That adds up to a lot of points. But we also do a week stay at HHI for New Years, which is low points time for them. I'm now hoping the Grand Californian opens up before next Summer so we can stay there. Though I still could use my points at the DL resorts, it'd be cheaper if it was a DVC resort.

I think me and the rest us DVC owners will be on him like white on rice. We'll wear him down!

Oh, you can check out the DVC incentives on the ship. I don't know if the incentive is any different purchasing onboard a cruise. I'm guessing not or I think people would post them. They really do have a spectacular deal with AKV right now. I got a bonus 500 Disney reward points, $8 off per point and equal developer points to be used at SSR. You have to buy at least 160 points to get the 500 bonus rewards. I'm using my points for the cruise and they just posted to my account. AKL was a favorite resort so it was a no brainer. We were going to buy a resale next spring, but with the incentives I just went ahead and did it.

I got home and no one wants to jet ski with me. I'm going to ask my SIL. She said yes to parasailing so she is my best bet...providing her wallet can handle it.

Mean Queen - I would save concierge level for when you wanted to do some hard to book events. The pre-planning service is nice, but I found I can easily do things myself. For those going to WDW for the first time they will like that feature. I know I did. The lounge is nice, but I found other relaxing places to hang out. Being in that 2 bdrm villa with my own beer and snacks outside on our super duper large balcony was just as awesome. I wish I'd bought sooner! I asked my buddy why she didn't slap some DVC sense into me earlier. She said she didn't want to be pushy about it. I just have 220 right now. I already wish I had about 350+. We like smaller long weekend type trips, too. Now, if we didn't have to contend with airfare it would be even nicer on the wallet. My husband is wondering how many points we'd need to live in WDW. He figures that's where I'm going to retire.

Good Morning.
Just sent DS off to school. Today he relented and took a notebook and a pencil!:woohoo:

Lora - I saw the photos of the Magic in dry dock. They're amazing!

CL is concierge level! That's why I had no clue - I've never been fortunate enough to experience CL! Actually when we sailed before we had concierge service due to our vow renewal, but I didn't know what to do with it! I'm not use to people waiting on me and have a tendency to get uncomfortable with it. I'd make a lousy princess! princess: I signed up for the pedicure at the spa and I'm now beginning to wonder if I'll be able to handle that pampering!

Have a good day everyone, and when it's over we'll be one day closer!:flower3:

Hi everyone! It feels like the cruise is right around the corner now that we're into the final 75 days.

I wasn't able to book a Palo dinner last night when I was finally allowed to book. Will it be a problem to get a reservation on the ship?

We are still assigned late seating for dinner even though I'd requested early. Any tips for trying to get early seating? I know that I can get to the ship early and beg, but I wondered if I could be proactive before the cruise.

I'm sure you could adjust being a princess rather quickly. ;)

Macassi - They hold back 50% of spa, palo and even shore excursion bookings to give people a chance that do not have internet access. Plan to be there early. Don't forget to look in the Navigator on where they'll be for dining changes and Palo bookings. It's typically Studio Sea. I love 2nd seating and was glad I got switched a while back. There is still a possibility to get first seating still so I wouldn't throw in the towel. You've still got a once chance onboard! People make changes then all the time.

I also requested early dining, but haven't got it yet. I plan to go first thing when we get on the ship and try to get it changed. Since we have a 2 year old, the CM said we'd be flagged to get moved before others, but there was no guarantee we would get moved. They just said our best bet was to ask when we got on board. You should also be able to get a Palo's meal on board. They hold some back for that purpose.

Thanks. I feel better about Palo. I'd be pretty upset if we couldn't get into it.

I'm less paniced about the late dining than I was when we first booked. We can always just keep a really late schedule if we have to.

I booked massages for the first day at sea, but they are late in the day - 4pm. I didn't realize that it was formal night until today. Do you think I should try to change them? IF we do switch to early dining, it might be a rush. Is it hard to switch spa appointments around on board?

On our last cruise, we needed to adjust our Palo reservations. We did it first thing after getting onboard. They had plenty of openings. I imagine they go quick, so take care of that first and avoid the "Topsider Temptation"!

Ken - My mermaid FE is so ugly and gaudy and poorly constructed. It's stiff as a board because I used the wrong interfacing. It's sparkly and glittery. It looks like something a 4 year old would make at pre school for his mother. Unfortunately I'm not a cute 4 year old and people will think I'm crazy. But I'm bringing it anyway, along with a grocery bag backup!!! Michael's has some great stickers for the grocery bag decorations. Should I bring doubles for you?
We could meet on the deck on 7 aft and put them together! And we can put our names on them with foamy letters! The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. No one else will have them. Or you can let me make a mermaid for you too - the offer still stands!!!

I'm on my way to Office Max for t-shirt transfer paper. I decided to make t-shirts for the 3 of us. Can't wait to see how I can screw these up!!!

Oh, you should see some of my handy work. I would never attempt a FE. I know yours must look professional in comparison to what hack job I'd do if I made an attempt at one.

Bonnie - You have got to be kidding!!! :lmao: Me? :rotfl2: Make a sign? :lmao: I have others who generously offer their time and talent make them for me! I'm lucky I figured out how to post on these threads! I do know how to save to a folder and print. And I'm hoping all I have to do is print and iron on the transfer.
I can bring an extra grocery bag for you too if you want to join Ken and I! Anyone "craft challenged" can come to our arts and crafts session Deck 7, aft to construct your very own grocery bag FE. I will supply "Giant Eagle" blue bags and white "Shop-n-Save" bags! I could even make a trip to "Kuhns" and pick up some beige ones! And I'm thinking we could tape baggies on the outside for individual pockets too.

I'm still in the process of figuring out my FE gifts too. I want to make sure they are compact enough to fit in a suitcase without taking up too much room. I'm thinking something flat! And small. How does everyone feel about paper?!?! (just kidding).

I'm watching Wipe Out as I'm doing this and laughing so hard I'm almost crying.:happytv: I love this show! There is nothing funny about people falling and yet why do I laugh so hard?

My DW needs some advice on formal wear. On our last cruise (4 day on the Wonder), we didn't have a formal night because of Thanksgiving - it was more like semi-formal. She wants to know if she needs to go buy an evening gown or can she get away with a black cocktail dress she has hanging in the closet? :confused3

I had the same question when I first started posting. I have decided on a simple dress, nothing fancy. DH is wearing a nice shirt and slacks. And DS? I'll cross that bridge when I come to it! He will not be happy when I tell him he can't wear shorts. He may even decide to order room service (which he loves to do).

Glad to see the formal wear comments! I have to go to a formal event earlier in Nov., so I plan to bring/wear that gown and I believe DH is planning to buy a tux to use for both events, but I was stumped on the boys - 10 and 8. I'm not interested in buying something they'll never wear again. Will khakis and a button down shirt be formal enough for them? I'm willing to buy ties if needed; I just don't want to deal with jackets since I probably won't be able to get them to wear them anytime after the cruise (if I could even do it for the cruise).

You are in big trouble!!!! I'll make another mermaid! My biggest problem is that my sewing machine doesn't work. If I had a machine I could certainly sew some up from the pattern Lora posted. And I don't know anyone with one that I can borrow. I wish DS still had home ec class! He could have made me a FE instead of an apron with dogs playing poker fabric (swear to God - it's one of my prized possessions!). I'll get it together - promise. It's the least I can do for you!!!! We aren't formal people but this is a vacation of a lifetime for us so I surprised DW with buying a tux and a mickey vest and tie to wear on formal nights. I am hoping to use it on another cruise in the near future. DD(12) has a nice party dress from her cotillions last year. DD(9) picked out a nice pink dress. I was trying to find some information on the new cruise ship pier that's supposed to be under construction in Grand Cayman and I found the port authority's cruise ship schedule instead. I wonder if that arrival time is correct. I thought it was supposed to be 11am.

I called DCL to ask after reading your post. The CM that I spoke with said that the 11:00-4:30 time is correct and that the excursion times will be adjusted accordingly. The excursion I gave him as an example was Rum Point Beach, it had a time listed of 9:15 to 3:35. The correct meeting time is 10:00, returning at 3:35. I really wish it was a longer day, I wanted to do Stingray City on our own.

Either that or we could "get lost" on CC. How long do you think you could hide before you would be found? I figure all I would need is a stick, some string and a hook and I could fish for my food. I could also go to Cookies BBQ when the ships are in and stock up on food for a few days!

Stacie,

How can they do a meet time of 10:00 when we aren't supposed to be there until 11:00? That doesn't make sense. I think I'm going with the 8:00-4:30 time. I like it better.:lmao:

Hi - I recently joined the board after a friend recommended it. Thanks so much for all the information. It has been really great and extremely helpful! We are travelling with our extended family. We were also unable to get the Palo reservations we wanted. How early should we plan to arrive at the port to have a good chance at getting that? Thanks!

Welcome! You won't be able to try to get your Palo reservations until you get on board. However, you'll want to get an early boarding pass so you can be among some of the first on the ship. We arrive at 10:00 (but that's because I'm crazy:lmao: ). I always feel like my vacation starts the moment I walk into the port. We've always received a number 2 boarding pass and have been some of the first people in line at the port. We're getting closer and closer!:cool1:

If you get to the ship early enough, you should be able to get in to Palos. We did it on our last cruise with no problem. We get to the port around 10:00 as well. There is a little of bit of sitting and waiting, but it is worth being first on the ship.

Disneypoor is spot on with her information. You can "check in" at the terminal as early as 10:00 a.m. and they give you boarding cards with numbers on them (kind of like Southwest used to board their planes). The earlier you check in the earlier you get on the ship. They don't actually let you on the ship at 10:00 a.m. You'll have to sit around the terminal for awhile. I don't remember the approximate time they let you board but my memory says it was around 11:30 a.m....maybe noon. I can't tell you how quickly the Palo reservations get booked though...of course it's going to depend on the size of your group and the day/time you want to dine.

I love taking the bus from WDW to the port but I hate not being in control of the time of arrival. Last cruise we got there around 12:30 and just walked right on the ship. When I called WDW to find out what time pick up will be at AKL they had no idea. Then I called DCL and they said around 11:00 - 11:30.
That should put us there around 12-12:30. I might feel differently this trip. I know I will fall in love with AKL and may not want to leave! I'll keep reminding myself I have a date with a dolphin! :woohoo: :fish: (until they make a dolphin smilie, I will continue to use this mackerel)

Judy--We'll probably get to the port about the same time. I like to sleep in, especially on vacation. As long as I'm there in time for the sail away party, I'm good. When we took DCL transportation time before last our bus left the Beach Club at 11:45 and we got to the port somewhere around 1:00 and walked right on the ship, and right to our room.

Does anyone know what time the first buses pull out of airport for the terminal?? We are spending the night before at the airport Hyatt so I’d like to be on the first bus outa there! It’s my only consolation for not getting to spend the night at DW.

Thank you everyone for your replies and advice. We had planned on getting to the port around 11:00 - but now I think we will try to get there a little bit earlier. I was able to get a reservation for my DH and me, but we wanted to go with DH brother and wife so we need a table for 4. We figured the kids 15, 9, 8, 7) could have kid night while we went out.

My brother in law wanted me to find out if you are able to bring your own beverages on board - the adult variety. I know you can order wine packages, but didn't know about anything else or if that was not allowed. Any advice? Also - it will be my nephew's 10th b-day the day we sail. What a great b-day! Has anyone ordered the birthday package from the ship? Thanks!!

Hi Judy - thanks for the invite! I have been reading all of the neat things the group has planned. I haven't even made it through all the stuff yet! But, we are travelling with our extended family -three familes total - 11 in the group and I am still trying to get that organized! We don't get to see each other a lot and day 1 is my nephew's birthday. But - I am very excited for the trip and we are all looking forward to it. This site is great and I have learned so much to help us with our trip! Now - I need to get organized and figure out a plan!! Can I respond once I talk to my group?

Hi billsteph,

I think you will have even better luck if you are just modifying an existing res at Palos. Just get their early.

You can bring almost any kind of "adult" drinks onboard.party: Just carry them on and don’t bring ice. Our last cruise, we brought a bottle of wine for each day, and a bottle of Crown Royal. My parents brought a 12 pack of beer. What worked best for us is a rolling collapsible cooler. Easy on and since it was empty after the cruise:drinking1 , we packed all of our souvenirs in the cooler.

No, we're renting a townhouse off site. We've never stayed off-site before, we thought this would be a good way to try it, short enough if we hate it, long enough to get the feel for it.

Hi Seadooken -

Thanks so much the reply. Very exciting news :woohoo: !! I think we will both invest in a rolling cooler. We are staying at Disney for three days prior to the cruise so we can stock up before we get to the port. I didn't realize it would be that easy. My brother in law will be so happy to hear this as well.

I just told my husband that we will need to leave Disney earlier than our planned 10:00 a.m. I'd rather be on the ship as early as possible to start the cruise. I was happy to hear that there are still reservations available for Palo's. I didn't think about it - but hopefully trading one for another will make it easier. Can't wait - thanks again for your help!

I highly recommend if you can to take time to try out Toy Story Mania. I absolutely love, love, love that ride. Maybe it's my competitive nature though. Ok. Just so I have the rules straight -

1. Never ever let your kids participate in Toy Story Mania while challenging your spouse. They must learn to fend for themselves.
2. All Florida residents must be at the port no later than 10:00am or they will be denied entry. I'm assuming no refunds will be given.
3. All flights out of Pittsburgh to Orlando MCO depart no later than 6:30am.
4. No matter how far in debt you are and how you just can't afford it, you can always do Disney. This is called "Disney magic"! Make sure you rebook on board.
5. No matter how old you are, you are always 10 at Disney. Make sure you act your age! It's the only place in the word where it's socially acceptable.
6. I'm a damn fool if I don't join DVC!!!!!

Good morning all,

Wow, just 70 days. The thought makes me anxious for what I still need to do. I got my FE items two days ago and I put a packet together. It didn't thrill me so now I'm trying to jazz it up somehow. I'm going to try to tackle the sewing on my FE this afternoon. That won't be pretty!!

I was reading on another thread that a group had ordered custom rubber bracelets, each family paying for their own. They got them ahead of time, and wore them to the terminal, so all the dis'ers were easily recognizable. Does anyone have any contacts for ordering these items? I'd check into it but I'm swamped for the next 4-5 weeks. Is anyone else interested?

I'm hoping to find some time this week end to work on my magnets. I think I have all of my clip art together, it just needs to be personalized, and printed.

I plan to head over to ABC Liquors to pick up my supply... not Crown Royal, but Ballatore Gran Spumonte. :0) Dh will probably get beer. I noticed some families bringing on cases of beer and water last trip, and having the porters tag them with their luggage. They were then delivered straight to their rooms. I'm going to give that a try.

Have a great week end everyone!

 I hadn't heard about that rule. I can't remember... what time do they start letting cars in? I think we had to wait in line last time, until they opened a gate or something. DH wasn't happy about getting there early and having to wait.

So how long does it take you and Shay to drive to the port? For us I think it's around an hour and a half.

I Think they open the gates around 10:00. We waited in the parking lot last time for about 1/2 hour. Michelene was NOT happy. the good thing is we parked in that small lot right next to the ship. On disembarkation, we only had to lug everything a short distance. Lifes simple pleasures . . .

On our last cruise a DIS'er made everyone lime green Mickey pins. She used the Home Depot paint chips, wrote our names on with a Sharpie, laminated them and stuck craft pins to the back. I still have mine and will probably wear it on the first day.

I just did a quick Google for the bracelets. The place I looked at had them for around 1.70 a piece, the more you order the cheaper they are. They had both youth and adult sizes. You can pick the color and the saying.

I think this would be an easy way to recognize others. I'm willing to coordinate it, if there is an interest.

Are you Floridians getting rain from Ike? It is a huge storm, it looks like it is filling up the entire gulf.

I'm on the east coast of FL and we've had unusually nice weather the last few days. Normally we'll get a thunderstorm every afternoon, but we haven't even seen a heavy rain lately. Pure sunshine today. I love it.

I made pillowcases but they didn't wash well. I'm not sure of the brand, it was from Target. I think the problem was more my washing error (not turned inside out) than the transfer being bad.

Judy ~ I like to use Avery Dark T-shirt Transfers, even if I'm ironing it on a white shirt. I think they turn out much nicer than the light shirt transfers. You just have to read the directions carefully.

Have a great day everyone. :dance3:

I'd also like to add another rule to your list for my DH who wanted to do the CC Double Dip cruise, but wished that it wasn't so close to hunting season:

I'm up early because Lexington woke me up to go out and eat breakfast at 5:30.That's the normal weekday schedule and he doesn't understand the concept of "weekend" or "sleeping in". I got new glasses on Monday and they are about the most uncomfortable things in the world. I think they need adjusted. I'm going to pick up t-shirt supplies while I'm out and 1 more part for my FE gifts.

I had forgot about that commercial! Thanks for posting the link. I also watched the video of the Wonder as filmed from the Magic about 10 times! I can't hear that horn enough!
Went to the dentist and it seems the root canal that I had done with the crown covering it was messed up. He had to crush the remainder of the tooth and dig and pull the rest of it out. It took an hour, he was swearing because it was so tough and I was ready to lose my mind. I am swollen and have stitches and he sent me home with a script for vicodin. I took one a while ago,and I think it's starting to work. I should be useless in about 15 minutes. But Linda told me this morning at least it happened now and not on the ship. What a day! I did get my t-shirt supplies though so it wasn't a total loss.

Guys, the Magic is still resting nicely in Norfolk, VA. There wasn't anything exciting happening. They've completely "hidden" the bottom with the black tarp so I guess engine work is underway. :confused3 I was hoping to see something ~ anything cool or exciting. No such luck, but it was a good day spent down there. It was HOT! I'm uploading pictures now, but there not going to be spectacular like the other poster has been debuting. At least she saw workers milling around and you can see the bottom of the vessel. It WAS the talk of the ferry. I had a couple ask me a ton of questions - cost, activities, best time to sail, etc. I must have that Disney Dork look about me or they were listening to me point things out to my SIL that will be sailing with us.

Hi everyone,

Judy--Hope you're feeling better. Vicodin is some good stuff. Just don't go selling what you have left to pay for shopping!!!!!

Gas here in WV is $3.85, and 35 minutes away in VA is $3.45. We always get our gas in VA on our way home from work.

I just checked our reservations and we have been moved to main dining also.:cool1:  . It helps with having Kenna (who turned 3 yesterday)princess: . Also Bob and his sister are diabetic. Bob takes insulin with each meal and at bedtime, and having 2nd seating would have him taking his insulin too close together.

I spent 12 hours yesterday with friends doing various crafting things. I worked on the FE gifts. I now have 43 completed with 21 more to go. May work on them this afternoon. Bob promised to take Kenzie swimming at the wellness center. If he knew the Steelers were on, he would find someway to get out of going swimming.

Have a great day everyone.

I don't know how many of you read it on the group website, but I'll repost here. Gerrit is a 16yo who is in my son's class, Boy Scout Troop, and Cross Country Team. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier in the month.

We talked to his Grandma after church this morning. He did go back into surgery Friday, and the Drs found out the tumor is cancer.

If you feel inclined please pray for Gerrit and his family. His dad is an Iraq vet, and his mom survived lukemia a few years ago. He also has a brother that is a college freshman, and a sister who is in middle school. All thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.

Lora

Congrats on getting moved too! And a big Happy 3rd Birthday to Kenna!

Teresa (Love2Travel)--I have the same list as you for the grab bag, with the exception of Imsomaha (sorry Steph!)

Judy--Glad you got some good sleep. More sleep = less pain.

Gas here went from $3.39 to $3.55 yesterday it had been on a quick decline. It stopped raining and looks to be a beautiful week, rain from Ike isn't supposed to come this far north. :)

I've been browsing for FE stuff, I'm such a procrastinator. I have ideas, I just need to get busy and implement them.

I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, I'm bringing my medical form and am planning on getting it signed one way or another.

Lora -
I made a mistake last night (it was the drug's fault). Stillers play tonight so Bob may not miss them after all. It's going to be a windy game - remnants of Ike are comin'.
I promise not to sell my drugs! I'll probably end up flushing them soon. I don't need them any more! Not even Tylenol.

Good evening all.
I just got back from seeing the movie The Woman. Very cute movie, a chick flick for sure as there was a full house full of woman.:dance3:
I went to walmart yesterday to see if I could find some material for the FE. I was really hoping someone would just make me one.:rotfl2: So I will have to be crafty as I really don't want to spend too much on one. There wasn't anything I had in my head of that I want it too look like so I will keep on looking.

twobyfour- So sorry to hear about Gerrit. I will pray for him and his family.
rlcook- glad to hear you got the main seating. That will be a big help. Oh and tell Kenna happy Bday.:cheer2:
Lexandme- glad your feeling better. I have had the same thing happen and I am still needing to get more done. :scared:

Is it too late to join the fish extender madness?

Yes it is, we had a deadline of 8/22 so that people that were making gifts had plenty of time to do so.

No promisies, but if you want to put up a fish extender and have your info on the group website, you never know what might happen. ;)

There is also a grab bag gift exchange at the DIS meet on the first day, 3:00, location TBA. Everyone that brings a wrapped gift gets to pick a wrapped gift. Love2Travel (Teresa) is organizing it.

Good Morning. What is left of Ike blew through last night and we have no power. A call to the power co. placed at 3am and they are saying we may be out until the 18th! That's 3 days from now. If that's the case this is not going to be pretty. We grocery shopped yesterday and will probably lose everything in our fridge/freezer. Our front awning over our porch is a loss and our neighbors lost siding, trim and lots of branches and trees. I missed my bus and got to work very late. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for you guys on the coasts that get full force winds.

But the Stillers beat the Browns so all is well in the Burgh! :woohoo:

Our high school and one elem school have power but the others do not. He's in HS and he went today. DH had school also but his district wasn't hit as hard. His biggest concern was if the Sheetz station was going to be open so he could get coffee! He called me to let me know it was and he was going to be ok. The day we left for our last cruise the electricity went out in the early AM and it came back on about 3:30PM, we left at 4PM. I did all the last minute laundry at my mom's and ran back and forth the whole day. I was so glad to get on that airplane!!!

We Northerners are not prepared for things like this like you guys are. I don't think there are generators up here that would be set up for community use! I know none of my neighbors have any. I doubt the townships or boroughs have them either. My township is so tiny (1 square mile) we're lucky we have a police car! :drive: It will be grin and bear it and eat out until we can cook again.

We don't have one. My in-laws lost power with Fay, wasn't even out for a whole day and they went out and bought a generator. When they got back from the store their power was back on.

Hi all

We got a lot of wind last night as well, and a few area schools are closed. Fortunately we didn't lose power and much to my DS's dismay, he did have school today.

I was just looking at our FE list. I wanted to confirm the number of participants (to make sure my numbers are correct). I have 37 adults, and 31 children for a total of 68.

Pixidustmom, I see you have two adults and a teen list, but on the website it looks like you are traveling with more people. Am I totally confused, or are they not particpating?

Just want to make sure I have enough stuff. :0)

Our power is back! We still lost quite a bit of food from the fridge but at least we have TV and computer access.

There is a man with severe mental health issues in our neighborhood as I write this. There are police from 3 communities all around, on foot and in cruisers, 2 ambulances parked a few blocks away and a state police helicopter over head. This has been going on for over and hour. When our DS and his friend were walking home from the trolley a policeman stopped them and told them to call 911 if they saw him. Ian and friend came home and locked all the doors and windows. I just came back from dropping them off at the Pirates game and it is a hubbub of activity. I'll let you know the results! My guess is he's more a danger to himself than others.

That is correct. My friend and her son are not participating. Just the three in my cabin. Thanks for noticing though. I feel bad though I know my friend's son would love it. So I may have to do something for him. She is busy like me but being a single mom she has no time or the extra $$ to do it.

It's dark so the copter is gone but still a heavy police presence. All windows and doors are locked. Our dog is big and has a very loud and deep bark. And he will bark at anything! As long as you don't know he's a Golden Retriever that will lead you to the jewelry and lick you to death, he could possibly frighten you. I feel a lot safer knowing he's around. I keep going on line to our 3 local TV stations and they have reported nothing about this. Maybe on tomorrow's morning news.

Thanks, Ladies for confirming my numbers. Pixi, I think I have extras that I can pack for your friend and her son. I started putting them together today. I'm still on the fence about getting one more thing... guess I still have time to decide.

My FE is almost finished. It's, well.... sorry looking. My best advice, if you'd like to view it, would be to go to Margaritaville in GC with the group that will be there (indulging in the local drinks). When you come back, walk by my cabin, tip your head to one side, and squint. At that point, it will look like a thing of beauty. Judy, have you got any extra mermaid sequins that I could use to jazz it up? ;0) JK Hope they catch the guy in your neighborhood soon. You DO have a lot of excitment in your life. OK Judy, Just exactly WHAT calendar are you using?:confused3 Even with us leaving two days before the cruise, we are at 65 days today. 59 works for me but I don't think our frieds will be with us. If we went a week early, do you think DCL would notice? We could be stowaways, and when we get caught we could say, isn't this Thanksgiving week?

I have 3 more FE gifts to make and then I'll be done. Hopefully the last of the supplies will come today.

I have Kenna's quilt almost done. It is all together. I ran out of binding to finish the edge. My plan is to go thru my craft room today and find binding that will do, If not, I see a field trip to JoAnn's or Walmart.

Have a good day everyone

I have a supplier for lime green bracelets but we are waiting on one more vendor to see if they have a better price than $1 that the current vendor offers. We have youth size which is 7 inches and adult size 8 inches. I will let you know when I know which vendor we are using and how to get them. I am posting from my phone so I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

Just had to say that I like Judy's countdown clock better than mine. :rotfl:

I am, however, 2 weeks out at 5:00 p.m. today until we attend the F&W festival. :cool1: I gotta have something to tide me over until this cruise. ;)

I could not get anyone in my group to commit to jet skiing so it looks like I'm out. :guilty: I'm not too overly worried because there will be a next time. ::yes::

I still have no stateroom assignment. I hope that means a Cat 3 is in my future. :wizard:

Have a great time and tell D. Duck I love him! :donald:

This day is just getting better and better!!! Here is an e-mail I just got from the cross country coach:

Fantastic News on Gerrit!!!

I can't pronounce or spell what (Gerrit's dad) told me today, but the doctor they spoke with today said that there is a 98% success rate that radiation will eliminate the tumor in Gerrit's brain. This is extremely positive news. He will have to undergo daily radiation treatments for 6 weeks, but the doctor they spoke with is an expert in this particular tumor said he has never lost a patient to it, and though it won't be exactly easy, Gerrit will recover from this.

Thank you for all the prayers!!!! :grouphug: This is just awesome!!!!! I really wish someone else was home right now and the baby wasn't sleeping, I feel like dancing and yelling, instead I'll add more fruit.

I got ya Lora!!!! I am becoming concerned with myself. I think I have "halftimers" or something! (It's not bad enough to be Alzheimers, so it's half of it). I'm having a lot of blond moments lately! (and my color is from a bottle - go figure.)

Hey guys-

I have a non-DCL question for you. For the teachers in the group--Do you allow your students to have water bottles in class? If not, Why?

For parents in the group--does you school let your kids have water bottles in class?

My reason for asking--With Mackenzies 4 kidney stones within a year (her 1st one was at 6), and all after she started Kindergarten. We have a physicians order for her to have a water bottle at her desk. She knows that she is not allowed to use it as a distraction. Her teacher last year had no problem with it. However this year, the principal saw it and told them that they couldn't have it. Therefore her teacher won't allow her to have it either.

I'm getting ready to call the school and talk to the principal about it, but I wanted to know what other systems do.

TIA

In elementary school, our PTO donated water bottles for the kids. Some of the teachers did get tired of them and didn't allow them anymore, but for the most part they did. Susan - help with this one! I would say though, that under the circumstances, your daughter should be allowed to have one and I would talk to the principal. Good Luck! Looking forward to meeting you soon!:dance3:

I will ask my DH about his policy. I would think if it's a doctor's order they would have to allow it. If not the bottle at her desk, at least ensure she is able to get a drink when she needs to or is on a schedule to ensure she does drink. Does the order state she must drink a certain amount? If that's the case wouldn't the school RN have to ensure that it is measured and she gets what she needs? Don't let them do what they want just because they feel it's an "inconvenience" for them. We ran up against issues like that with our daughter and you have to be firm and let them know what you expect them to do!!

My DD is required to bring a water bottle to bring to PE because there is no water fountain outside. At her last school, they also allowed them to have water bottles. I think many teachers find it better than a kid getting up a million times to go to the water fountain. I'd have your DD's doctor write a note to make sure she can have hers, since it's medically necessary.

Pixi, no problem. I have extra supplies so a couple more is not big deal.

Judy you are too funny. I wish I had known before that squins and glitter were the keys for an awesome FE. I can't wait to see yours. I'll be sure to wear my sunglasses and I'll oohhhh, and aaaahhhh for everyone to hear.

I decided to take off one pocket and try to resew it straight. As far as the back, there is no hope. I stopped at Joann's this morning for more bias tape and ended up getting a little paint, and a few other odds and ends. By the time this crooked FE is finished, I will have invested a good chunk of change.

As for the water bottle question, our elementary school does allow them. Some teachers encourage it more than others. However, my DS has had a few urological issues and has a doctors note stating that he needs to have fluids throughout the day. If they gave me a problem with a doctors order, I would be contacting the superintendent, or whoever was next in line, and have the issue addressed (and I am not a mom that likes to stir up trouble). Also, studies show children that stay hydrated do better in school, have more energy, etc. In fact, my DD preschool now only allows water during snack time after the teachers did a brain gym inservice. Here is a clip from their (Brain Gym) website.

Drink Water
As Carla Hannaford says, "Water comprises more of the brain (with estimates of 90%) than of any other organ of the body." Having students drink some water before and during class can help "grease the wheel". Drinking water is very important before any stressful situation - tests! - as we tend to perspire under stress, and de-hydration can effect our concentration negatively.

You could also do a search on students and hydration and present the information to the school to advocate for all the students. (Can you tell I'm a nurse, and have a strong opinion about this? LOL)

Lora--
I know that our elementary schools encourage the kids to bring water bottles, especially in the fall and spring when the temps are high because none of our elementary schools have AC.

The junior high and high school kids are not allowed to because of kids filling them with things other than water. They do allow it if you send a note and then I think they have to be a clear water bottle.

I agree with the others be firm, especially since you have a doctor's note.

You could bring out the big guns. Tell them if they deny this you will have to keep her home and they will be required to do home bound instruction. (send in a teacher and school her at home). You can also threaten to sue for compensatory time since she will be missing class work. Give em hell. Don't let them get away with this because they are being lazy. Shame on that principal.

I spoke to DH about the water in the classroom. His response was absolutely he would allow it. He stated that denying her the water when she has a written order would be the same as denying her medicine. I have to tell you he became very animated and angry when I told him. Even suggest to him that a child's rights may have been violated and he freaks! He also suggested you mention home bound instruction and compensatory time. School districts do not like to hear that because it is so costly. Tim suggests if the principal does not agree, then you should contact the administration.
Good luck and hopefully it is already resolved in your favor.

Water bottles are mandatory here. They are on the supply list we get at the beginning of the year and teachers send home reminder notes the first weeks of school if they notice a child doesn't have one. My ds is in 4th grade and they switch classes for part of the day, I was in the classroom last week and heard the teacher reminding them to take their water bottles with them as they moved to the next classroom. I could be due to the fact that we live in Georgia and start school Aug 1st when it is 2 million degrees out.

I called Mackenzies school today and asked the secretary if I could speak to the principal. I was told she was in a meeting and the secretary asked me what it was in regards to. I told her and was placed on perpetual hold. When someone finally came on the line, it was the school nurse-who just happens to be responsible for 4 schools. Anyway she asked why I was calling and I told her. I told her that I had sent the Dr.s note on the 1st day of school. She said that she never received it. However she knew that Mackenzie had missed alot of school last year. I mentioned that we were being followed by a Dr. at UVA and that She needed the water bottle. Mrs. Dante totally agreed with me and said that she would go to the classroom and speak with her teacher and the principal about having the water bottle. I mentioned that I was an RN and I wouldn't let this rest as a mother and a nurse, and if there were anymore issues, the Board of Ed would be notified.

In the meantime, I have gone online and printed lots of material about hydration and improved learning. However for those of you whose schools allow water in the classroom, could you PM me anything in writing. I am thinking that perhaps we need to have the BOE approve the use of water bottles. I just might have to steerhead this.

Thanks to you all for your input.

:cheer2: Good job Lora!! Glad to hear you found somebody reasonable at the school. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction. I don't know if our school has a written policy allowing them or if they just allow it, I'll poke around on their website though.

We are going camping this weekend. Besides DCL, it's one of our favorite family things. We sold our camper at the end of last summer, because we didn't use it once and it wasn't really the setup for the little one and the teenagers. There is a lady in our area that rents campers so we are renting one from her this weekend. It has a seperate bedroom with bunks in the back for the kids, a big bedroom in the front for us, and plenty of room in the middle for the pack in play. DS and DD both have things to do this weekend but if we didn't want another year to pass without camping. I can't wait to have a perfectly golden marshmellow. :)

For all of you north of the Mason Dixon line, I figured you might get a kick out of this one. Our weather guy was talking about the soon to be passing cold front and said you might want to wear a light sweater to work tommorow. It is going to get down to the mid 60's.:lmao:

Thanks for posting the link to the info about CBR's new pool. I love CBR, it's one of my favorites. I think we may have to stay in one of the new Pirate themed rooms when we go to WDW next summer.pirate: I have also heard that the Martinique section will be Nemo themed. :fish:
JudyReally? Where'd you hear about the Nemo theme?

I checked our reports and we only get lows in the mid 70's. But our highs will be mid-80's. So that's a nice break from the 90's we've been having. I'm going to guess the weather guy was talking about areas in the northern parts of the viewing area.

Deb's allears.net. If you click on accomodations then CBR. You can view photos of Martinique. It's not much really. The bedspreads are sea creatures and wall paper borders are Nemo, Dory, etc. The curtains are suppose to look like the ocean/waves. It's not as exciting as the drawings for the pirate rooms!

Deb's also announced the new promotion for WDW next year, "What will you celebrate?" Free admission on your birthday. Unfortunately all of our birthdays are during either November or February and we can't make it to WDW then!

Ken, I'm not kidding. Cold fronts can be brutal. Make sure you all bundle up! Want me to send you ear muffs and mittens? :lmao:

I'm not sure how it works though. If you wanted to, could you go to all four WDW parks as long it was on your actual bday? If it's only one park, how would they know you hadn't been to a park already?

I already have passes so I'll have to go for the Birthday Fun Card. It's a gift card good that day for the amount equal to an adult ticket. :worship: :worship: :worship:

No! What was it? I've been trying to talk DH into joining for the past 5 years!
I'll check ITUNES because they sometimes have Travel Channel Disney shows available to download. Travel Channel also repeats episodes too.

I live in a very tiny township, 900 people, 1 square mile. A very large mental health organization is trying to buy the nursing home at the end of my street (through a small wooded area). There was a town mtg about it tonight. I've never seen anything like it. It's to be a 24 hour lock down facility with a 10 foot fence and guards. The agency was lying about the population they will serve and people were crazy! Standing room only, people were yelling in through the open windows! It reminded me of the old Frankenstein movie when the townspeople all grabbed torches and went on the hunt! It was a mob scene. I don't think the commissioners are going to vote in their favor, they'd be killed if they did. Never a dull moment!

You Fla folks are so lucky! I may have to just fly down for my birthday and stay the night!

Judy--Another week, another adventure. Never a dull moment. Funny that you should mention angry mob, I threaten my Dr. with one this week if he didn't sign the paper. I didn't tell him that the mob would have to come from many, many miles. ;)

Next time they try and raise taxes around here, I know who to call to stir up the masses! This is great!

Hey, it dropped down to a fridged 67 last night. I wore a jacket, but did without the ear muffs. I'll save those for the lower 60s.:rotfl2:

Ken--The first time we went to WDW was in December 2005. The week we were gone, the temperatures at home never got above zero. The temps in FL were in the low 70s during the day and dropped in the evening. We went to MVMCP and DH was wearing a sweatshirt and shorts, he got many "northerener" comments, especially from the people wearing hats, scarves, and mittens.

It was bitter up here last night. Dropped down into the upper 40's. Soon we'll be posting about how much snow we're trudging through and how we went sled riding and made snow men! But the colder it gets the closer we are to winter and the trip! I think I should start getting some winter clothes out of storage this weekend. At least pants and long sleeves!
Ken - Glad to hear you are wearing weather appropriate clothing!
It's funny you bring up taxes. that was our biggest complaint last night. Our community and our tax base is too small to support a facility like that. It's non profit so they wouldn't pay taxes and our resources (police, fire dept, etc.) would be stretched beyond their capabilities.

Thanks Judy!

I did live in New England for a couple of years. Coming from FLorida, THAT WAS COLD! I do wish my DD7 could see the snow. She loves to play, and it would be a special treat for her. I think next year instead of a cruise, we will end up in the mountains somewhere. I doubt I'll find a Cove Cafe there though.

That sounds like our whole COunty down here. We are top heavy with reitirees with little business to pay the real taxes. The retirees end up shouldering the burden for much more than they should.

I should be living in FL because I really do not do well in temps below 60 degrees. DH OTH thrives in the cold. Give me 120 degree temp with 80% humidity any day. I'm totally a FL girl at heart!

I got some shots of the Magic, but nothing was going on. I guess they were sanding down in preparation for painting. Not many people were milling about. I wish I could get down there to watch her sail out, but we have a really full weekend.

Happy Friday...Cheers!

P.S. - 2x4....Congrats on getting the A-OK to sail.

Also, I had to look up Governor Radcliff because I didn't know who that was. I couldn't find any pictures. If you can find a picture for me I'd be happy to make Howard's name with it.
