Yeah -- the best time to see things hopping is around 5:30 pm or so Africa time (I'm thinking around 11:30 EDST) when animals are coming in for an evening drink. Did you at least hear the night birds and crickets? Previously, all I'd ever seen was a zebra (which was still plenty cool) but this morning there were 3 elephants. My UK horsie girl-buddies and I watched them for at least half an hour. We were all totally in awe.

I'm sorry you missed them. :guilty:

Early morning is great too. I've seen monkeys (baboons) any number of deer, wildebeest, musk oxen, gazelles, hyenas, so on and so forth.

I'm really hoping to see a lion one day.

It's a great site.

...hey! I'm not going to argue with your Mama! ;)
You are SO right, Miz DVC -- Over the years, I've made sure the first rule at our house is: "If the mama ain't happy; ain't nobody happy!" :rotfl: ...and the second rule is: "the mama is ALWAYS right". :rotfl: :rotfl:

Here is a quote from the site's homepage:
" Nkorho Pan is brought to you by Africam.com, ranked as one of the top African wildlife sites on the web. We pioneered the live web cam industry in Africa back in 1998 when we broadcast live images from some of the wildest places on the continent. This was a world first and fast gained popularity world wide. Technology has moved on and we are proud to bring you the first of our live streaming cameras on the Africam Wildlife Channel."
SplshMtnLvr28's mama RULES!

...that may not be the best idea.

Scene from dkostel's bedroom, 3am:

Dkostel sleeps peacefully, the sound of the African sveldt gently lulling him with crickets and birds and a wildebeest placidly chewing leaves and...

a huge ferocious lioness, who pounces fiercly upon the unsuspecting wildebeest! dkostel wakes to the dying screams of the wildebeest as the lioness feasts upon it.

dkostel is unable to sleep for weeks.

I see your point, perhaps the circle of life is a bit much at 3am :)

What a neat link! The camera is down right now, but I know I'll be returning to watch.

I have to share a story. Quite a few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit a friend who was a missionary in Kenya. We were staying at Sweetwaters Resort and we were having dinner. Shortly after our first course was served, our waiter returned and said, "Madames, the elephants are here." We replied thank you and continued eating. I mean, if you've seen one elephant, you've seen an elephant, right?

A short time later, our waiter returned and again said, a bit more insistently, "Madames! The elephants are here!" We again thanked him for the information and continued our conversation and our meal.

Finally, just a few short minutes later, he returned again and this time was VERY insistent. "MADAMES!! The ELEPHANTS are HERE!!"

We then thought perhaps we were being rude since he was very insistent we see the elephants. As we walked onto the viewing deck, we were absolutely amazed to see not one elephant, but 33 elephants of every size visiting the watering hole! Of course, neither of us had brought our camera to dinner, so we did not get photos of this. I also have to mention (as we found out during the remainder of our visit) that the entire staff seems to shut down and go to the viewing deck with the visitors and all sit and watch the elephants. It really is an incredible sight to see so much wildlife in their natural habitat.

I'm also happy to report, our waiter became our friend during our stay and he joined us the next day to go on an "Elephant Safari". We didn't take the usual Land Rover jeep, but rather my friend's little Mazda. Quite an adventure and a trip of a lifetime!
