Hey All,
Well, it's a big weather change around here...and headed east.. how is everyone doing?
I think YodasMom is getting hit pretty hard with snow from what I have seen.. Which means there are several other swappers upper there that are getting hit too...
Today we are only expecting less than an inch of snow here...but right now the wind is sustaining at 20 miles and gusting even more.. there isn't a single leave to be found on the trees any more, I think my leaves may be in AlexWyattMommy's yard or even near Mickster! :confused3 Our trees are all tall and old and when the wind blows I worry...
How is everyone else fairing and what are you all expecting over the weekend?
Hope everyone has a safe and warm weekend!!!

Hey! I noticed some new leaves this morning!! :rotfl:
It is over 70 degrees right now. And the wind is starting to pick up a bit. We are supposed to get a lot of rain and wind this afternoon (just in time to get DS from school! :rolleyes1 ) and then tomorrow it will be 40 with wind chills in the 30s! Talk about getting sick! Yikes. No snow in our forecast, yet.
But our local weather guy predicts 30 to 40 inches this winter. All in Jan and Feb. Just in time for our trip to WDW. As my MIL said: As long as it is clear to leave, it can snow as long as it wants after. Wouldn't it be too bad to be stuck in Disney?
Hopefully everyone will not get too much snow, wind and/or rain.

Well, let me tell ya.. It's coming your way... The winds are horrible.. I have branches (luckily small) down all over the yard.. I had a runaway snowman leaving my house by force not by choice. I had to run out in my pj's to retrieve him.. Needless to say, my neighbor (cute elderly man) called and asked if it was cold outside! Well, yes but I had on my flannels thank you! He just laughed!
30 to 40 inches.. oh my! I'll have to see what we are expecting.. WE haven't had a good snow in years.. we are about due.. as long as I've been to the grocery...I'll be okay!

The funny thing about the grocery stuff around here - if there is even a mention of the word snow, people will go get TP, bread, milk and eggs. Stock up. Like more than you could ever eat. Those things always sell out. Very strange. :confused3
I'm hoping my stuff doesn't blow away too. :rolleyes1

Same here..and what am I out of ??? and it's grocery day anyway... Help me later!!! I won't even take the kids out in this... it was bad enough picking DS5 up from kindergarten.. I'd be afraid they'd blow away...

It has been raining here all night. And the winds are really picking up. We are having problems with flooding. The train ride my dd and I were to go on near Cleveland has been canceled. I guess there is flooding in OH too.
Our local people said will dodge the bullet, just 1-2 inches of snow. Roads are flooded here too.
PrincessNancy96
12-01-2006, 12:35 PM
I'm so sorry your train ride got cancelled!!! :( Any other plans to make up for that? A mall trip, movie?
We had rain all night too.. :( No flooding in our area of town but we live on the hill however, I know there is flooding for most of our rivers and streams.. :(

We are getting the BIG WIND right now :teleport: (was just looking outside at the poor flag shredding in the wind, and thinking I guess not having the decorations out yet is a plus right now) , and they say the storm front will cross over my house around 4-5pm. Then we are in for cooler temps...good, cause I'm not enjoying the humidity/heat today.
PrincessNancy96
12-01-2006, 01:43 PM
We've had these winds about 8 hours now..and it's awful!!!
I sure hope it gets a little nicer even if it's cold this weekend... We had spitting snow earlier but nothing to even stress over.. it melted as soon as it hit hte ground.. While DH was on my home depot run for paint cans he said that the temp was already 29.. and we started out at 50 this morning at 7am...

I just got back from Target and saw at least one person in shorts! So strange for Dec 1! Well, it has started to rain, just not a lot yet. Wind is picking up a bit though. We shall see. It will probably be really bad at 3:40, right at pick up time! ;)

Isn't that the way it always goes.. nothing most of the day until the kids need to get out of school.. The wind was so bad when we had pick up that the parents went inside so the kids couldn't get out...which was nice but going back to the cars were were fighting the wind.. :(

It's warm here but the winds and rain are starting to pick up. We recovered the bulk head door so hopefully I won't wake up to water in the basement again. I hope the rain holds off a bit until our Holiday workshop is over at school tonight. The kids are going to make crafts.
We are supposed to get a bit of snow on Monday but I can tell you it will snow on the 16th or 17th in N.E. We have a family party that we go to and every time we go we have a blizzard. No lie!!! I dish out the $65 to go and we get snowed in.
This weekend is supposed to be nice so we'll see if I can get a tree and the decorations up outside. DH is going out of town for 2 weeks so if we don't get a tree this weekend we just won't have one I guess.

2 week trip again.. out West? I sure hope you are able to get the tree up this weekend.. .I pulled mine out from under the basement steps.. I can't have a real tree with DS10s allergies...Although we had one when he was 6 months old.. he toppled the darn thing down on himself w/ the assistance of DD!
I sure hope it doesn't snow again on you all.. We always have snow the weekend of basketball sectionals.. never fails.. You can almost mark it on your calendar.. alot like what you deal with.. (not blizzard though).. We did get a freak storm one year that hit with a wholp..went into a basketball game with flurries..came out with 2 inches of snow...and the roads were horrible.. it took us 2 hours to get home on a 40 minute drive.. :(

:sunny: We have been off school yesterday and today. Yesterday was ice and temps, today was for snow. We got anywhere from 6-10 inches, on top of the ice that was already there. I live close to a Lowe's that has a berm so kids are out sledding! They were there at 2 a.m.!
I am working on cleaning bedrooms today. This weekend we are tackling the basement! Want to get our clean sweep done by next weekend as dh has double bunyon surgery on the 13th and will be useless after that!
PrincessNancy96

2AM sledding.. oh to be young again!!!
I was complaining at 2AM because the darn cat wanted out..than wouldn't go because it was raining..
ksjayhawks, do you have built in snowdays? We do.. and have not used them in 4 years... we haven't even had a 2 hour delay in 2 years even when we really should have.. I did notice today though that some of our northern schools were closing early.. not ours..but that is okay.. we just have the cold and nothing else on the ground yet..but there could be some "black ice" due to the rain and falling temps..

The news was full of dire predictions for the Chicago area and NWIndiana. I guess they got hit west and north of Chicago but we had very little snow here. It rained instead then some sleet. We do have high winds - supposedly up to 40 mph. I was driving and had to hang on to the wheel so it may have been true.
I want one of those gentle snows where you can go outside and go for a walk and make the first snowprints on the trail.
Speaking of stocking up - the local paper had reports of runs on grocery stores in the area - I didn't even think of it!
Stay warm and dry all!

I wondered about you!!! I knew you were in the NW Indiana area.. Glad to hear it's not too bad for you all..
I have to raid the grocery soon..but it's grocery day any way at our house.. Usually around here they don't freak at an inch..but they might have this time because it's my grocery day!
Okay, off to make meatloaf for dinner! yeah!!

We have 4 or 5 built in snow days. We don't do late starts here or early dismissals, no matter what. So we have used 2 so far. We seem to use 3 or 4 a year. It is awfully early to be using them, though. But, even if we go over and have to add on at the end, we will be done by the 1st of June. However, we start mid-August . . .

Hey all!
Thanks to the wind yesterday, we had no power from noon till 10pm last night. Not the most fun. It got pretty old fast. Took the youngest out for awhile, but couldn't even grocery shop, no power so can open the frig.
DH finally started the generator around 7pm so the kids could at least watch the Avatar season finale. And we could opent he frig again.
Need to go clean up now. Hope everyone else has a great weekend.

Avatar was awesome last night!!!! I still can't decide which way Zuko is going to lean. I want to just kick Azula's butt, I think she's going to end up double crossing her dad to try to take control.
Our Holiday work shop was a huge success, I guess because of the weather. My ornaments were a big hit, I did the ones that are clear glass balls and had the kids roll scrap paper and stuff it in the ball.
DS6 was freaking out though when we went outside. The wind was horrible and he thought we would crash to car. It didn't help that the old refrigerator blew into the side of my car. There was no real damage to the car, just a little scratch. But it was scary driving around the lake, I hate water so my big fear is crashing into water. Our lake comes right up to the road too and there are only trees blocking the way, no rails.

Glad they were a success Buffy!!!
EW! I don't like the tree line lake drives either.. or the ravine drops.. YUCK!

I was so sure that Zuko was going to stand by the Avatar's side against Azula. His poor uncle.
Of course Azula is going to double cross her dad. I think she is going to kill him just like he did to his dad.
How long do we have to wait for the new season?

From what I can find on some Avatar forums it will be anywhere from mid January to Mid April. Sorry it's not more specific.

Agh! That's a long to wait if it turns out to be April.
Hopefully Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis will start in January.
I'm not very good TV company. I watch the weirdest shows for some one of my advanced age.

Ha! That is so funny. I watch it even when the kids are gone too.
It was a tough call between Avatar and Doctor Who, but Avatar won as I've been watching it longer. :sunny:
That and I can buy the season of Doctor Who for less money than Avatar. I am so not paying $15 for 4 episodes. I'm hoping they put the whole season of Avatar in one package.

HeeHee, uhm, Avatar is a cartoon on Nickleodeon. The do have repeats on the Nicktoons channel I think either 6pm or 7pm. It deals with use of elements (fire, water, earth, air) and being able to use them or as they say "bend" as good things or weapons. If that sounds remotely interesting, I can PM you more information or you can just check the Nickleodeon website.

They said we might get flurries today, but it is sparkly and sunny today. Super cold (in the upper 30s), but absolutely no snow. My DS was so disappointed. He said "if it is going to be this cold, we better get some snow to make it worth it!" Oh, so true! :)

Oh, hello! I just saw this thread. Duh!!
Yes, we got a huge load of snow (and ice formed under it)........I'm northwest of Chicago. I think maybe the shipload of salt didn't get to my area, or maybe the workers are doing something else. The drifting is still bad today so the ice keeps reforming on the road after the cars go over it, too. Just got the snow cleared away from the front door so that I can receive packages again!
Hope everyone else it doing OK!

If he does go I'll have him send DD a postcard. Do you want one from CA if he stays there?

If I ship the clothes then I'll submit it for expenses but I'd rather do that than have him buy clothes there and then have to pay duties on then. Plus it's not exactly cheap in Belgium and I'd rather buy xmas gifts. The real stinker is I have to go buy a tree on my own. Blech! We usually cut one down but I may just buy one that is already done. Or, gasp, the horror, buy a fake one. He would kill me! :scared: :faint:

Wow, that sucks!
A couple of years ago I forced the fake tree thing. I got so sick of the tree staying inside till DH took it out. We always got a balled and wrapped tree...too heavy for me to move.
Now I ask the kids to get the tree from the attic, and I'm good to go... I don't miss the smell, and the added bonus is I don't get sick every year anymore. Here all these years I thought I got my usual Christmas cold, coughing, stuffy nose, etc, and who knew it was actually the tree all this time! Go Figure! :confused3
