Just got back yesterday from a quick three night stay at a VWL studio. They must have been rushed to get ready as the cleaning person left a bottle of cleaning solution on the table, no plates and the last occupants dishwashing liquid. Otherwise, room was clean, but I digress. On the way to VWL, I noticed there was big excavation equipment parked at the STOL site (backhoe etc.) Does anyone know why that stuff was out there? I could speculate, but you know how that goes! :cool1:

We saw all the construction activity over there, too, while we were at VWL. But did you see the Orange County Sheriff, too? They were pulling speeders in right and left.

I think that stuff has been there a while. I first saw this place in August and there were a bunch of trailers and other equipment there. Seems like I heard on one of the podcasts I listen to (probably mousetunes) that Disney has used the STOL to store constrution type equipment for the past few years.

They were actually doing a lot of digging in the area. You could see a lot of dirt disturbed.

This link is to a permit granted to Disney for water management of the construction trailer site at the old landing strip. They refer to the project as DVC @ the Contemporary.

It has been reported that the parking lot in the fenced off area around the North Wing is being torn up.
I had posted that one plausible theory (rumor) I read is that the STOL (short take off landing strip) is going to used to bring in and store the heavy equipment and materials that will be needed for the new building at CR.

Disney filed papers for demolition."

Are they going to build a new DVC tower at the CR?
What are your thoughts?

Went by CR a couple of times while we where there and I didn't notice much activity. Didn't think to look at the parking lot though. Seems to be more activity than just storage going on at STOL.

It's only 35 mph on that road to CR, WL and Polynesian, so beware. We also saw them pulling people over near the entrance to Ft Wilderness. Didn't see any this time near AK or AKL.

Well I am just back and I, of course, got different opinions about all the equipment. Our last night we were at the Contemporary-concirege. The concierge on the 12th floor was convinced that DVC Contemporary will soon be announced. The DVC salesperson in the Contemporary lobby said it will never happen. I told him I was hoping he was wrong! The concierge was very excited and thought it was a done deal.

You know gow these rumors go, but they all knew about disboards!!!

I bet the salesperson wouldn't really tell anyways because they are still selling SSr and they don't want you to wait around for Contemporary-they want you to buy now!!

Yeah great ME.

ME + DDP = terrible food at WDW and packed restaurants with unhappy diners. Disney doesn't care all of you ME users are stuck right where they want you.

Glad that free ride is worth the decline of WDW and the standards they built.

What exactly is your point? That the ME "free ride" is letting undesirables into WDW that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it? Or do you believe the money ME users would be spending on Mears shuttles would be funneled back to Disney to keep up the standards?

Hrm, thought I read somewhere that ME was run by Mears for Disney.
