I haven't been to this board in awhile. Anyway, I was sifting through the various camcorder threads and couldn't find a good recommendation.

Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive, decent, walkaround mini DV camera? The one we want is the Canon professional (can't remember the model #), but at that sticker price...it will have to wait. I'm looking mainly for something that I can import our wedding videos (raw footage) with so we can finally edit it (over 1 year later). It would be an added bonus if it was decent enough to take vacation videos with as well (not bulky, since we would most likely be lugging around our D200).

Just looking for a range, but don't want something crappy...

thanks!

I am working with my second Sony Mini-DV Handycam, and I have had very good results. Bought the second one after abusing the first for many years... it still works fine but I decided to invest in the smaller body with touch screen.

Still use the old one to watch tapes on the TV though! :)

The one I have is DCR-HC96 and it runs $799 on the Sony site.

Have you spent any time on www.camcorderinfo.com? I researched my most recent camcorder purchase, a Canon Optura 30, in 2004, I think it was, using their reviews. I've been mostly pleased with the Canon, although its low light ability is pretty dismal at times.

I found the reviews on camcorderinfo to be very good. You may want to check them out.
