I am no expert, and in fact there are many more out there who know way more than I, but I will add my .02 anyways. ;)
I think you and your family will find the Disneyland Hotel more enjoyable. The atmosphere is more 'Disney' and the rooms are bigger. :)
As far as concierge...we haven't tried it yet, but we will for the first time in May. We usually like concierge because our kids take full advantage of the 'finger foods' :)
Since the Grand Californian is connected to DCA, I would think that this hotel would be for someone who plans on spending more time at DCA than Disneyland. And since DCA seems to be slotted for older kids and grown ups, I imagine you'll be spending more time at DL (you mentioned her DD not liking the 'thrill rides').
Who's next? And who can say this better? I've been sick for 4 days and my brain is in a fog...LOL :D

The pool there is a Neverland theme, with a big slide off of "skull rock" and a small slide for the little ones. There is also a pool with a "beach." Your 6 yr old might also like the koi pond - they feed the fish @ 3ish, and will let her throw food, too. If you're into character dining, Goofy's Kitchen is nice, and is located at the hotel. There is also the Fantasy Water Show at night - fun to see.
The one advantage the Grand Californian has is that it is right near the entrances to DL & DCA ... so you walk 7 minutes instead of 2. :D
