I vaguely remember this being discussed a long time ago, but can't recall the details. Can you
use prepaid calling cards to make long distance calls from pay phones in the parks?

Hi Susan!
You can use prepaid calling cards from any pay phone any where. And if you are staying in a Disney resort, you may save money using a calling card from a pay phone. I think that there is a 75 cent charge (or higher?) for every call that you make outside of the resort.

I thought the 75 cent charge was for any calls made from your hotel room phone. Some of the cards have additional charges for call placed at payphones that are not the perpaid cards sponsor. Ex.Att payphone MCI phonecard could be an additional per minute charge. Read the fine print on the card. I think that the WDW payphones are all AT&T phones.

I can't really answer the original question, but we were in Wash DC this summer and I was unable to use my prepaid phone card in a phone booth in Union Station.

Hummmm...that is interesting (and SAD) ncbyrne! I do not know if the pay phones at the parks are like that. I hope not.
Disneydenise - you are right, I am sorry if I was not clear. You ARE charged for calls from your room. I know that MANY prepaid calling cards charge a surcharge (extra minutes) for using them at at pay phone. The one that I use - the AT&T cards from Sam's Club charge six minutes for using at a pay phone. But at less than 4 cents a minute now, it costs less than 24 cents to make a call - less than a quarter! But I do know that many of the others charge BIG surcharges for various things - using at a pay phone, a connection charge, a minimum minute charge, etc. That is why I stick with the cards from Sam's. No surprises! I use these cards and my cell phone for all of my long distance calling.
I also use my cell phone or the SAMS club calling cards. I will sometimes call from the parks but it can be very noisy depending on the location of the phone. It is easier to go to the lobby of the hotel and make the call, at least for me.

you can use phone cards at wdw. i know they sell their own (very expensive) as disneydenis said some types of cards deduct when using a payphone. read the cars. i think prepaid cards are great if you can't use a cellphone.

Please tell me more about these AT&T phone cards from Sam's Club. Are the minutes on them good for an indefinite period of time, or do they expire after one month, or something?
