View Full Version : How do Flying Unicorn and Nuthouse Coaster Compare to Barnstormer?

DD(8) really dislikes thrill rides.
At WDW, she eventually went on Barnstormer (on our last day). Of course she loved it.
But she wouldn't go on anything else that involved speed (not Thunder Mountain, not even Kali River Rapids).
Will she like either of these kids' coasters at IOA and USF, or should we skip them?
Thanks!

very, very similar
All three were made by a company called Vekoma. They are all their jr. coaster product. As Spaceman said, they are very, very similar.

Yes, very similar. Unicorn is a faster but there are no big down hills or loops.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Flying Unicorn. Woody's is very mild and close to the ground. I think that she might find Unicorn a little too intense.
But you can probably make your decision just by looking at it.

Nuthouse is the tamest of the three. Barnstormer is very similar yet just slightly wilder. Flying Unicorn is considerably faster than the other two and as a result has quite a bit more lateral forces. I am suprised that all three have the same height requirement. A 35" child needs to be well-gripped to ride the Unicorn.
Another warning. The Flying Unicorn stops very abruptly from a high speed. Be ready to hold your child tightly at that point.
Our daughter (now 3 3/4 years old) really enjoys all three. She is a big time thrill seeker and can't understand why she is not big enough to ride the Hulk.

All three are off-the-shelf Vekoma children's coasters. There is no difference in the trains, and only the height if the lift and the path of the track vary a little. Don't let my name fool ya, I've played with all of these rides in some form or another and your child should get a kick out of these.

I agree about the abrupt stop at the end of the flying unicorn.
We have very fond memories on Woody Woodpecker. We were there right after 9/11 and the crowds were nonexistent. We rode Woody 25 times in a row. The CM would say, again? and we said, yes! and off we would go again and again and again.

I love Flying Unicorn. I don't call it a kiddie coaster, I call it a "mini steel twister". As for Woody it is much slower and less rowdy. Unicorn Flyer can build some good speed for a ride of it's size.

RhondaS's daughter, 6, and my son, 8, gave us a rest while they went on the Flying Unicorn about 7 times in a row...
Both mentioned the abrupt stop at the end, but otherwise loved it!
