Well, we bit the bullet and took my MIL to WDW over Thanksgiving week, and needless to say we need a do-over. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's like when you're ten years old and playing a game of HORSE or something with your friends and you mess up and you need another shot. Well, I need another shot, at Disney and maybe of some Tequilla too. See, my MIL is a little hard to deal with. Not just a little, I'm exaggeratin'... a lot! Like, everyone I meet who knows her says "oh, I'm so sorry" when I tell them she's my MIL. She's the kind of person who thinks the whole world is her oyster... literally. Like when we saw a character in Toon Town she goes gangbusters toward them yelling ooh, ooh, ooh, like he's just there for her enjoyment, nevermind that line of 100 preschoolers there waiting patiently for their turn...oh no not her. I know you think I jest, but sadly...NO. It's true and oh so much more are you in store for.

Then a do-over you should have. Go ahead! Do it! Send her a postcard.
I'm sorry that it didn't go well. It was nice (and brave!) of you to take her anyway, knowing how she is.

Oh boy, sounds like this could be interesting! I could be a gazillionaire if I could clone my MIL. She is a gem, a jewel, a wonderful woman! I am really spoiled having her as a MIL. Looking forward to hearing your trippie!

Smother-in -all is more like it.
I'm lucky as DW and DM get along better then DM & I . And My MIL has passed some time ago at an early age.
I do feel for you though as DFiL thinks I'm the Devil.

Oh, where to begin. About 7 months ago I began planning this trip after she tried to hijack our summer trip with my BIL and SIL. I knew if we added one more person to that trip it would be a disaster, as we already had 9 in tow. So I stalled her by telling her she didn’t need to go when it was so hot, and put her off with the promise of a Holiday trip to see the Christmas decorations over Thanksgiving week. She has always wanted to stay at the GF, but that wasn’t in the budget so with many weeks of negotiating on the DVC rent and trade boards, I was able to get BWV and we were cookin’. We later added 1 more night at the AKL for good measure. What was I thinking? I knew how hard this was gonna be, but it was months off in the distance, and with my good Pollyanna, rose-colored glasses firmly planted on my face, I was bound and determined to be a good DIL and offer my MIL a trip of a lifetime.

WOW...that is exactly what I need (and am going to get in just 2 weeks). My problem was a grandson (age 3-3/4) with a lousy attitude about everything and a grandson (age almost 6 at the time) who thought it was fun to egg his younger cousin on until he whined more and more! So now DH and I are headed back (just the two of us). I hope you get your do-over really soon! I'm sure looking forward to reading your TR.

Yea, being in DW with the wrong ppl can definitley mess up the trip. I've definitely been guilty of ditching some drama before and going for a few hours by myself to try and relieve some stress. unfortunately, it seems like you went during a really crowded time as well, which only makes matters worse. I went during spring break one year, big mistake. never thought it was possible to have a bumper to bumper stroller traffic before.

A little more pre trip: Two days before we were scheduled to leave I woke up at 11:30pm with the overwhelming feeling that I hate more than any other...nausea. I knew it was coming because the dreaded Stomach bug was on the rampage at my school. There was no denying it, I was sick... as a DOG!. I was up all night and needless to say I was quite sure that our trip was in jeopardy. I have never been so sick and 18 hours later, I was feeling like death still. So I became hysterical. I feared that we would have to cancel, and that meant a few hundred dollars down the drain, since I had rented points, which meant no chance of a refund. Worse yet, I feared that we would all end up with it in the car on a 11 hour car trip or all together down there in 1 room with 1 bathroom. That would be H-E- double hockey sticks on earth. I have also failed to mention that my MIL has multiple health issues of her own. Needless to say, there was a lot of praying and crying going on at my house. Not the way you want to start a Disney trip. :worried:

My brother and SIL, their DS5 and DD12, and his BIL, SIL, and DS5 just got back from their Thanksgiving week trip (first time to WDW for the two littlest ones), and yep, they got the stomach bug on the way there (13 hour trip), and so missed the first two days of their trip, and had a really (not!) enjoyable ride there. So, I can just imagine the fear and trepidation you were facing when that stomach bug hit you that close to your departure time! Looking forward to the rest of the story...

By Friday morning, the day of our departure, I was feeling a bit better, but I was still very weak. But I was determined that we must press on. So I mustered all of the strength I could and managed to finish packing(which thankfully I was 90 percent done with before I got sick) and by Friday afternoon we were off. We drove to Valdosta and stopped for the night at the Best(or should I say Worst) Western which was a mere 50 yards from Interstate 75, which I'm sure you know can't be good. Being only a few yards from the interstate is nice when it's very late, you are tired and need rest, but makes for a lot of road noise from all of the trucks wooshing by. And then there was the joy of waking to some sort of mutant roach bug type thing flying into my face at what I thought was 5:15 am since that is what the flippin' hotel clock says. So I am wide awake after bolting upright in the bed at the revalation that there is a roach on my face and since "I think" it is 5:15 a.m. I go on and get up to take a shower and wash the bug residue off of my face and proceed to wake everyone else up too. Then I realize almost an hour later while watching the weather channel that it is really 4:55 or whatever time it was, and so now I have had exactly 3 hours of sleep been attacked by a roach, while recovering from the stomach bug(ironic)and I can't even get excited about being only a few hours away from my "Happy Place". So I'm kind bummed at this point, but then again there is no where to go but up, because in addition to all the other crap goin on at the "Worst Western" of Valdosta they also have a 1955 elevator that almost took my arm off, and a dangling light fixture that was definitely in violation of some sort of ordinance or another, but we laughed about it all since we were headed for the AKL and all of it's splendor. And luckily no one else has started puking so that's something to be thankful for. OK, so I am starting to look on the bright side and we are on the road again(sing it Willie) and in a few hours we are in Orlando, and even though we have been there 6 times in the last 4 years, we manage to get lost as a goose as we try to find a gas station somewhere off the turn pike and end up somewhere in the twilight zone (do do, do do :rolleyes1 ) for about 45 minutes until we finally ask an evil tollbooth operator who rolls his eyes and mumbles some extremely vague directions and the phrase about 25 miles. I knew this was a bad omen, even though I don't really believe in that kinda stuff, but it was just all too surreal at this point so I just took a deep breath and closed my eyes and clicked my heels together and said "there's no place like home" 3 times and wa la we were driving under the magical Disney arches within 30 minutes. Finally we were starting to feel the Disney Magic.
Tune in next time when we here Grandma say..."I think this floor is just a high grade vinyl"

We finally arrive at the AKL around 11:15, which by the way is looking like the Taj mahal after the Worst Western of Valdosta. We are just checking in at the time many are checking out. They were not able to get us a room right away, so we took advantage of the great views and activities the AKL has to offer, and the kids got to "track" Timon in the bushes around Arusha Rock and all that for a while. Then to the food court for our first of our many "adventures with Grandma" of the trip. We were trying to decide what we wanted to eat when a cute little family, who by the way didn't speak English, entered the food court with a screaming 2 year old. Good Ole Grandma, who fancies herself "parent to the World" proceeds to get in the little tykes face and shake her finger and say in a rather loud obnoxious tone with a ogre like scowel on her face, "stop it, stop it, you can't cry at Disney World!" Now she in her usual oblivion, has not figured out that these poor people are not from our country, and most likely have no idea what she is saying. Therefore, we have a hysterical child growing ever more so by the second, and totally bewildered, and most likely horrofied visitors from another country getting a good dose of American hospitality on their vacaction. "Thanks Grandma, just how we love to start a vacation... pssing off the fellow travelers at the Happiest Place on Earth." She's so much fun to have around... if you're hammered that is. But it was only around noon and I still had to entertain, feed, and lead my clan to our lovely savanna view digs, so I thought I'd hold off on the boozin' a little longer. After our lunch at Mara where we have managed to get through the meal without accosting anyone else, I call and discover our room is now ready. On the way up in the elevator, Design on a Dime Grandma observes the lovely "faux stone floors". She proclaims them as such, because she has leaned over and dug her thumbnail into them and being the officianado of decor that she is(NOT) she is sure they are not real marble or stone, but some high grade form of vinyl. I say "sure they are, Disney can't afford fine materials in there Deluxe resorts:rolleyes: . My dh then begins the first of many arguments on this subject, which will become the theme of our trip. She then proceeds to ask our fellow passengers what they think. You can imagine the looks on their faces as, you know they really don't give a rats *** and therefore have no opinion on the subject, but manage a half hearted response of agreement with her, I am sure just to shut her up. Of course she is thrilled to have somone agree with her, while I silently stare daggers at these fools for humoring her.
So there ya go. Half of day 1 at WDW. And we're just gettin' started.

Now, we have made it to our lovely savanna view room, with only a partial, people pen view as well(just my luck). Oh well we have animals so I am happy. As I have mentioned(I think)this trip was sort of a reward for my MIL who almost died about a year ago. I know,I know what you're thinking. I have really been doggin' her out and I am some kind of cruel heartless beeotch for talking about her this way, and you might be partially right. But, as I have also stated, anyone who knows her TOTALLY understands where I am coming from. But, I digress. Since she has had a hard year with multiple health issues, I began planning this trip with/for HER about 7 months in advance. She has always been a fan of "fancy"places, and had mentioned that she would LOVE to stay at one of them sometime. So I went hard to work to try and make her dream come true, by searching tirelessly for discounts and such and ended up with a split stay at the AKL and BWV. Of course once we are at one of said "fancy" resorts, she immediately starts noticing how they have used faux materials to achieve the desired effect ie the vinyl faux marble floors in the elevators and the obviously faux wood beams in the AKL lobby, which are by the way fake, but who cares. Anyway. I am now begining to regret putting this reward trip together for her as she is really starting to get on our nerves, and we haven't even stepped foot in a park yet.
Now it just so happens that we had not planned to go to a park on arrival day so we spent some time enjoying our view... for all of about 5 minutes that is. Then she starts playing with my sons stuffed animals and taking pictures of them instead of the real live animals, that I just dropped $250 a night (with a code;)) for her to enjoy. So typical! Anywho, my dh and I go down to get a few things out of the car that we had forgotten, when a nice couple who were on there way to the airport, offered us some of there liquids that they were unable to take home with them on the plane. JACKPOT! A wonderful bottle of Coppola Pinot Noir was just what the Dr. ordered after the afternoon from , well you know. And a half case of bottled water to boot. But who needs that when you're in Orlando on the coldest week in November on record. I only need to rehydrate when I am sweating. Give me more pinot, that's what I'm screamin'. But I really didn't utter those words out loud(or did I). Can't remember. But, nonetheless, I was set for the evening.
Some friends of ours from back home happened to be down for a few days for there anniversary, so they dropped by to mooch, I mean share in my good fortune. Later we had a lovely dinner at Boma, that is until we got the bill and my bipolar Dave Ramseyite dh almost had a stroke on the spot. Dang, forgot that those pesky Disney suits want to charge 55 pound children as adults. Man that sucks, and Oh, boy did grandma let that waitress know what a travesty it was. Grandma strikes again. At least dh has the social graces to suffer in silence when faced with the $$$$. But, as you already know(if you have been paying attention) that good ole Grandma is not one to give a rip what others think. The nickname Oblivia was given to her a few years back on another ill-fated family vacation when we all noticed that she is totally oblivious to the social graces that most other people in the world try to adhere to. She on the other hand is totally oblivious to any and all forms of socially acceptable behavior, and therefore to any reactions to her insane, rude, or outlandish humiliating public displays. The only upside to all of this loud carrying on about the audacious behavior displayed at the bill paying ceremony, was that the sweet waitress went and changed the bill to reflect a child price. SCORE. Or maybe not. I think I would rather have my self respect, than a few more bucks in my pocket, but the damage was done, and I was half lit from above mentioned free libations, so it was all good!

Finally we are going to the parks. We load up our stuff into the car, and head to the Magic Kingdom, but only after a minor Grandma moment at the hotel concierge where she is buying her 3 day hopper. She asked me before the trip how much the ticket would cost and I told her about $250, to which she replied "you're kidding me, last time I went to Disney(circa 1980) it only cost me around $25." Yeah well there is that pesky little fact of life called inflation that we all have to deal with Grandma. Nevertheless, when we go to purchase the tickets and the sweet little old lady at the concierge desk tells her the amount, she launches right into the shocked and outraged speech again, and looks at me like I have sabotoged her because "she had no idea it was going to cost this much, and don't they have some sort of senior discount" as if we had not just had this conversation 2 weeks ago at home. She is ,by the way, notorious for claiming she has never heard information before when clearly she has. Like when she showed up at 12:45 for Thanksgiving dinner when I clearly told her 12. She was adament that I had said 12:30, which would still have made her late, but I KNOW I told her 12. This is a definite recurring theme in our lives with her, so it really shouldn't have surprised me when the whole "I am shocked at these ticket prices" thing happened, but it never ceases to frost my butt everytime.
Finally we are off to the MK, and we arrive in time to watch the opening ceremony train of characters arrive. All went well there for a while as my dh went with her to rent a scooter and my kids and I went to ride some rides. We were able to do Dumbo, Pooh, and Mad Tea Party in the first 20 minutes and then met back up with them for Small World which was a walk on then over to Peter Pan and then to Philharmagic. All is going remarkably well until my son wants to ride on Grandmas lap and drive the scooter. She is more than delighted to let him, and Lord knows he could probably drive it better than she was doing. Then within a few minutes a nice CM informs us that it is against the rules and that there was only 1 rider per scooter and the driver must be at least 18. So I promptly appologized and made him get off. So a few seconds later when the CM was out of sight she waves my son back over and says "OK you can get back on now, he's gone." I said no, we are going to follow the rules. She then tries to make him get on again to which my dh says in a rather irritated tone, "No Mom just drop it". Again she tries to make him get back on and this time I am about to lose it. I got up in her face and said firmly(without yelling but with a look that meant business) "NO, we are not teaching our kids it is OK to break the rules". Then she huffs and pouts and tells us how rude we are to her and how she just wants her grandkids to be able to have some fun. We're in freakin' DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!! I think they are having plenty of fun without the illegal child driving the scooter ride! I didn't actually say this of course, but in my mind I am screaming it. My dh has already had it with her and launches on her for a good 3 minutes and then we have some uncomfortable silence for a while. Then out of the blue, up ahead near the teacups she spots a character and off she scoots toward him yellin "OOH, OOH, OOH" Just like an impetuous 2 year old the clouds of her previous mood are lifted as she sees ahead of her a character... there just for her. Oblivia strikes again. Heading for the exit area of the character meet, she runs right into the character handler who is waving her down yelling "Ma'am, Ma'am, stop! You have to go around the other way and get in line" Yeah, with that mob of pre-schoolers who are patiently waiting there turn. "Oh, nevermind". Return to pout mode.

DH & I got our do-over trip in December and it was fantastic. We stayed at Coronado Springs and loved it. The crowds were pretty light. We loved the Christmas programs and decorations. And BEST OF ALL we got to do exactly what WE wanted to do. We didn't have to worry about making anyone else happy. We didn't have to listen to whining and complaining (except my DH did a tad bit of this). It was great. Good luck on your do-over trip!

So we move on over to Tomorrowland because we want to ride "Buzzlikeyear", TTA, SM, and Puppies of Progress. By this time it is like stroller and scooter bumper cars over there, and we are all getting mighty tired of the whole scooter thing. We park it over across from Buzz and head in there for a spin and then over to puppies for another spin. Oh, by the way I won the bet with dh that the outside of CoP does rotate. "Oh, Puhleez dude, do you think you can outwit a Disney Geek? I think not!" It was a nice rest and we sang "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" everytime cuz that's what we do. My 12 yo ds, who is autistic, will not allow us to miss this one no matter what(along with TTA,IASW,Pooh,teacups....) Anywho, we are fortunate enough to walk out just as the new High School musical show was starting. Another bet won, because my other son had said "No way is the HSM show in Tomorrowland, it has to be at MGM. High School Musical in Tomorrowland makes no sense." Of course that was true(and obviously someone at Disney agreed, cuz they're supposedly moving it to MGM), but nonetheless I was correct again(of course) and he was still thrilled to see it, even though I BURNED him! It was a cute show even though the obviously gay guys(not that there's anything wrong with that) in their late 20's or early 30's acting as high school basketball players was asking a little much of my suspention of disbelief. Then we decide to go for a whirl on TTA since half of us weren't up for SM, and we needed a rest. I LOVE TTA, especially the "Paging Mr. Tom Morrow" line. It cracks me up every time. We have a little trouble getting Grandma up the extremely steep conveyor belt thing that gets you up to the platform, and then again stepping on to the moving platform, but eventually we are seated and travelling through SM, so that was gonna be as close as we came to riding it this go around. After that little adventure we decide we have had enough fun for the morning and head back to check in at our new resort BWV! Once we ditch the scooter, I whisper in my dh's ear that we are going to have to get a wheelchair instead tonight at Epcot so we wouldn't have to deal with her trying to let the kids drive in her lap, and run into people etc.
Tune in next time when we hear Grandma say..."Where's the phone book? I need to look up the number of the nearest hospital.:scared1:
I am enjoying your report very much! That last line about the hospital sounds exactly like something my mom would say. Can't wait!

In case you haven't noticed I have lightend up a little on Oblivia because I have been feeling a little guilty about how I have been portraying her in this trip report. Even though it is all true, I have felt bad that I have been telling the world what all of the greater North Alabama area already knows about this crazy woman. Oh well, here we go...
When we arrive to check in to BWV, we are immediately shown to our villa which, though is only standard view, is very nice(IMHO). After a faux marble moment in the elevator(I kid you not, she asked yet another guest if they thought it was real marble or not...same reaction as before mind you) But as soon as we walk in the door and I flip on the light switch, I hear a loud POP! Of course, because I haven't been livin' right we have blown a ciruit breaker or light bulb or who knows what and we have NO lights. So the bellman calls mainteneance and tells them what has happened and within 15 minutes we have two or three guys up here tryin' to figure out what we rednecks have done! So..., while all of this madness is going on Oblivia is trying to find the phone book. At first this doesn't phase me because I am trying to figure out what is going on with the lights, but later, when I hear her asking " how far are you from Disney", and telling her medical history do I become ALARMED! I ask what she is doing and she replies... Oh, I am just calling the emergency room because I think I might need to go get...OK here is where I refuse to tell anything private about her medical condition, but suffice it to say YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW!!!!!! Anyway, I talk her out of costing us untold amounts of $$$$$$ and time, for which I assure you we neednt do, and get her to come on to Epcot with us.
Now when we get to the International Gateway, we talk her into getting a wheelchair instead of a scooter since we wanted to control every move she made. OK, we didn't REALLY tell her that, because that wouldn't have worked. So instead we made up some story about how it would be so much easier on her if dh wheeled her around and yada yada yada, and whatever we said she bought and we were in. My dh then proceeds to enter into what I like to call the "I am about to have a stroke" phase of our trip, which I am afraid will continue until trip end. The uphill climb over the IG bridge was a little rough, but then we cruised on over to FW where we rode Soarin' which got us all into a considerably better mood. Well that was once we got there. Of course we had to take the 1980 model elevator downstairs and of course we had to have the "faux marble" coversation again. In a 1980's elevator!!!!! She wants to try to prove a point that " if they use vinyl in here, then they obviously use it at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, too." YEAH RIGHT!

You are a brave one. I will not even bring my own mother to Disney(or anywhere eles for that matter). All she does is worry about where the next bathroom is & when can she light up her cigerette so she can poision us with her 2nd hand smoke.
The very last time i went anywhere with her she hijacked my dh to go to the bar & left me with my 2 young(at the time) kids after their baths.

You do deserve a do-over, just based on the first two days. But you have to finish this - we are ready to hear your testimony. It's cathartic! FWIW, I'm sure the floors in the AKL elevator are genuine non-vinyl!

Ok, where were we? Oh yeah, the lovely 1980 model elevator in the Land Pavillion which DOES by the way have vinyl floors, not to be confused with the marble floors at the deluxe resorts which may or may not be some form of faux material according to Oblivia:rolleyes: ! Ok then, now we are off to ride Soarin' which is sure to lighten the mood and give us the much needed stress relief and relaxation to prevent the stroke that we could have at any minute:eek: . As usual, we are all thrilled with this ride, and since it was Grandma's first time, she was doubley impressed. Thank goodness, she is finaly truly impressed with something on this trip and she isn't trying to figure out how Disney is scamming her into believing it is something it's not. Next was over to one of our other favorites, Spaceship Earth. As we pass Rome burning, we have to say "smells like chicken" because my sweet autistic son said that the very first time we rode SE. Obviously he thought the smoke smell smelled like chicken(we like our chicken smoked here in the south, not just fried, in case you're wondering what smoke has to do with chicken). Anywho that's sort of one of those inside jokes that you just had to be there for to really appreciate, but still I like telling it just in case some of you want to say really loud "Smells Like Chicken" when you ride SE. I am hoping that next time we are there I hear other families saying it too, so I will know someone out there is reading my trip report.
It's getting close to time for Illuminations by now so we head over to mosey around WS and grab a few snacks and some coffee from Kringla Bakery in Norway, and I have to have my school bread! If you like coconut, you really must try it. Then we decide to watch Illuminations facing toward Spaceship Earth in the center because we have never watched it from this perspective. We have usually been somewhere near tho other side of the lagoon facing the countries so we can see them light up. Well, I have to say it wasn't the greatest idea, but at least we tried it. Not that it was terrible, just not as impressive. We almost didn't stay because we are all freezing our butts off. It had dropped down into the low 50's with a very stiff wind and none of us had worn warm enough clothes, but we stuck it out and shivered thru it. Once again Grandma was pretty impressed although a little numb from the cold. Oh, I almost forgot, we were cracked up:rotfl2: by this man standing next to us at Illuminations. We were standing against the railing right in front of one of those launch tubes for some of the fireworks and when one of them shot out it was pretty loud and startling. Well this man was standing there with his little boy and when that thing went off, he bolted, leaving his kid behind. Man I wish I had gotten that on video, I think I could have won $10,000 on AFV! I would have been ashamed if I were him, leaving his little guy behind to be picked off by snipers.:sad2:
Well after that we headed back thru the IG to the Boardwalk and up to our room for some much needed hot chocolate and sleep! But as usual it wasn't a usual trip back. Tune in next time when we discover that we have made it back to our room with a little souvenir from Epcot!:scared1:

OH MY GOSH can I PLEASE tell you that your MIL is my grandmothers long lost TWIN! AAHH! its crazy! my grandmother is SO inconsiderate of everyone and so LOUD! she thinks just b/c she is old everyone has to listen to her, even strangers! for example: we are in the mall looking for clothes, and she suddenly yells "um, I think we are in the wrong place! this is fat people clothes!!!" my mom and i wanted to crawl in a hole! all these women started looking at us. how embarassing! oh, and at my rehersal dinner last month, after my sister made a toast and asks if anyone has anything to say, she yells :I am just gonna say I am so glad yall are not marrying Michael and frank!" (mine and my sisters ex boyfriendss for 3 years) we wanted to DIE!
oh oh and we took her to the GF for a week in 2003 with my family and our boyfriends, it was a NIGHTMARE! she walks so slow we finnaly convinced her to get a wheelchair, and she said and did the most annoying things! AAHHH! this si too funny how alike they are. sorry this is such a long post!:yay:

After I posted and re-read the last installment, I realized I had left out a very important moment. On the way to Soarin' while Oblivia is convienienty trapped in her wheelchair, and we are speeding towards the Land, we are passed by two tween girls squealing and running passed us. As they blow by, one of them drops a change purse and doesn't realize it. So I yell at them to let them know they had dropped something and they run back grab it and run off. WELL, that does not sit well with Grandma,AKA parent to the world,AKA Oblivia. She begins to scream in a demonic tone at them "COME BACK HERE YOUNG LADIES! DON"T YOU KNOW HOW TO SAY THANK YOU!!!!!!" yada yada yada. You get the picture. I inform her that it really is no big deal and really not worth making a scene over, but she continues ad nauseum about how rude young people are these days and so forth. I guess you really had to be there! Anyway I thought I should add that little tid bit since I didn't have quite enough Grandma drama in that episode.

Kanga, I followed a link from another thread to this, it's great! Can't wair for more. I have a sis in law that loves to run the show whenever she can. Statements at a family gathering like, "Mom said she wanted the food placed on the buffet." Then Mom (my mil) comes out of the kitchen and says, "where do you think we should put the food at?"
Or she asks me if I can do a little project on the computer for her that turns into an ordeal. Once was for a fundraiser at our church. They had Santa there for the little ones and you could get a polaroid picture with him for a few dollars. Well she had a nice idea of making a little paper frame to put the picture in. She came over and it took 4 1/2 hours because she kept changing things and getting lost in all the clip art I have. Now if she asks for something like that, I just say what do you want, do it, give it to her, and if she wants changes I make them, doesn't take nearly as long.
It's just reassuring to know that we all put our pants on one leg at a time and we all have a relative that can drive us to drink! :drinking1

Thanks everyone for your nice replies, I have a tendancy to not acknowledge all of the kind posts, which is very rude of me, but I usually don't have much time for small talk and pleasantries since my life is very hectic right now. But, I truly appreciate my audience, however small it may be. What can I say, I am no ZZUB!
Now on with the show... As you recall we have managed to make it thru day 2 without killing anyone, but definitely infuriating quite a few people, and have returned for the night to the lovely Boardwalk. Now as we are wheeling Oblivia off of the "Friendship" boat, which by the way is somewhat ironic to me if you knew how many boat captains and fellow passengers she had managed to totally pss off, we realize we have somhow managed to make it back to the resort with the courtesy wheelchair from Epcot. How, you might ask, did we manage that? Well when Oblivia is involved, anything is possible, and I don't mean that in a good way. See, as we are leaving the park, she declares there is no way she can make it from the park gate to the boat dock without the wheelchair, so the lady at the wheelchair return tells us we can take one of the "courtesy" wheelchairs (different ones than the ones you use in the park) over to the boatdock if we bring it back. So We plan to do just that, but once we get there the boat is about to depart, so we have to hurry on and the boat captain tells us to go ahead and get on with the chair and he will bring it back over. I thought this was a little weird, but as we are about to make the boat late for its scheduled departure, I agree to it and we are off to the Boardwalk with an old rusty, hard to push, "courtesy" wheelchair. So once we get off of the boat with it we figure, "Oh what the heck we have it and we are going right back to Epcot tomorrow morning anyway, let's just keep the dang thing"! So we did, and wheeled it right on up to our room, had a good night's sleep and got up the next morning and decided to head to AK instead. Never fear we do eventually return the chair, and no one says a word. I am sure I will get flamed for depriving some poor soul of a courtesy wheelchair that day, but trust me, it was such a crappy hard to push rusty thing, it was actually a blessing that no one got stuck with it, trust me! And as an additional bonus for us, Oblivia has decided she needs to stay in the room and rest for the morning, so we actually have a somewhat peaceful trip to AK and are able to get a lot done... at least for a while. Dum Dum Dum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crazy Kanga
03-18-2007, 06:40 PM
We head straight over to AK after getting lost on the way to the bus stop. Yes, people, I know it sounds crazy, but we did manage to get lost on the way to the dang bus stop. Well, This may seem stupid, and by the way it really is, but we are on our way to the bus stop, which we can see from our room and we decide, "there must be a faster way there." WRONG! We end up spending aboout 20 minutes lost in a maze in the BWI and almost make a detour thru a maintenence area before making it to the bus stop. Only we can figure out way to make a 5 minute trip to the bus take 20! The curse of Oblivia strikes even when she is in the room asleep. So we finally make it there and head to the dreaded rope drop holding pen, then eventually make it to the KS ride and man is it ever cold! For the first time ever, I am really NOT enjoying the ride. Hardly any animlas to speak of, but then......... we see the lion roar, and it is all worth it. After that we stroll thru MJT where an over zealous CM scolds us to "watch our body language" in front of the gorillas."Puh-leeze lady, they are behind glass, I am really not terribly affraid for my life." Then we head over to EE.
About that time Oblivia calls right when we are on EE! Yes. I am on the way up the incline when my cell phone rings. It's on vibrate so I don't hear it, but feel it ringing. Again, only Oblivia can time it this perfectly WRONG! We try to return the phone call when we get off the ride (which by the way was AWESOME!) but of course.... no answer! Just shoot me now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:headache:

We call repeatedly on from dh's cell to my cell which we left with her so she could call us when she got up and about. I mean like 20 times we call and no answer. We even tried calling the room phone. Nothing. So I figure she has gone down to the lobby to complain about the previous days events with the lights going out when we checked in(which by the way only took about 20 -30 minutes to resolve).because she had been griping about how they owed us a free upgrade to a suite for our troubles.:headache: And as it turns out I was right, she had tried to do exactly that, but I didn't find that out til much later. So anyway, we head from EE over to FOTLK which was fun as usual and we sang all the songs and had a great time and lo and behold the phone vibrates in the middle of the show. NO WAY! I can't even hear in there to answer it so we try calling her again when we get out, and guess what? No answer!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
So we dscide to head back cuz we've had all the fun we can take what with the vibrating phone tag that was getting us nowhere. On the way back to the BW we of course stop at S/D YC, BC and fianlly BW. Man that sux. I mean I really can't complain that much cuz I got a great deal renting points, but if I was paying $300+ per night, I would be  about all those stops. Sorry for the vent, but I just feel for the $$$ they need to not be sharing busses with that many deluxe resorts. I can see S/D and BW sharing and Y&BC sharing but...I digress.
So once we are back she is all rip roarin' ready to go, and we are a little wiped out and in need of a little rest. So we let ds put on his swimsuit and head down for a quick dip in the pool.:scared: I mean it is in the low 60's and I am in jeans and a jacket, but oh, well whatever floats your boat kid. After 2 or 3 trips down the "IT" slide, that he affectionately named "Clowney" he was ready to go. So back upstairs and presto chango we're ready to head back over to Epcot to return our contra-ban wheelchair from hell.

I love the way you talk in your posts. Reminds me of myself sometimes, especially with the "anywho's". I do that all the time.
Oh yea, in Grandma's defense, and only this once, I agree with her about the teenage girls not saying thank you. That really bothers me when people don't have a common courtesy for even that! How hard would that have been for them? I probably would have shouted back at them, "YOU'RE WELCOME!" Oh well, that's just me. :confused3

I have just about lost my will to complete this trip report, mainly because I have just about forgotten the order of how things occured, but I will press on and try as best I can to maintain the integrity of the trippie as best I can.
So after returning the wheelchair from hell to Epcot's International Gateway, we take a trip to see Off Kilter which I LOVE, but sadly, Jamie wasn't there that night and it just wasn't the same, so we left and headed over to MGM. We rode GMR,ST and then went to VLM and Narnia and then over to RNR and TOT. I lost my cell phone on RNR because it fell out of my pocket. I didn't realize it until we got off of the ride, and when I went back to tell the cm she pushed me back like I was about to be hit by and incoming ride vehicle, but I was a good 4 feet away from the track. I was quite taken aback by her over zealous attempt at saving my life, since I am an adult who was well aware of where I was and was nowhere near the dang track for heaven's sake. Oh well, I am freakin' out now because I am sure that my phone is somewhere in the underworld of RnR and never to be seen again, when she comes back from some secret place with my phone. She said they have to sweep each car after each ride and they found it in the floorboard. Whew, that was a close call. This will prove to be only the first cell phone fiasco of the trip.
Then we talk Oblivia into staying for Fantasmic, but she doesn't want to wait for an hour in the line so we buzz over to the streets of America to see the Osborne lights which was so cool and it actually snowed on us that night. I thought it was just the fake stuff, but No it was actually snowing in Orlando. Needless to say the Osborne Lights were way cool and the freezing cold of the eveningl enhanced the experience because it actually felt Chritmassy.
We had to rush back across the park to make it in time for Fantasmic and we made our way in to get seats. By this time it is pretty much standing room only, but since Oblivia was in the wheelchair, we were able to get seats in the Handicap section, but almost all the way to the left side. We ended up sitting next to a family that was from our hometown. We discovered this because I was wearing my Alabama jacket and this family also had on Alabama attire, which inspired us to strike up a conversation. It turns out we actuall knew some of the same people and they even knew my BIL. "It's a small, small, world":rolleyes1 Of course Oblivia manages to pss them off when after the parents have spent untold $$$ to procure 3 light up toys for their kids, she begins to scold them for playing with them becasue they are disturbing her view. Now, I am the first person to admit that the kids should be told to be careful with them and not block people's view, she was not happy with just that...No she didn't want them playing with them at all. I agree that the dang things are annoying, but a third of the kids in the place had them, and after the parent has spent good money on them, you can't expect the poor little tykes to not play with the darn things. But oh, she was pssed off. It was not a fun situation to be in since there was clearly no way to make everyone invoved happy. You would think that a grown woman could give a little to placate toddlers, but no! She insisted that they stop playing with them. Well we just about froze our butts off, and I was unnerved by the tension about the light up toys but we made it thru Fantasmic, and headed back to the BWV aboard the Friendship boat which was PACKED to capacity and more I must say. But we had made it thru day 2 and were on our way back for some good old rest. On the way up to the room we saw the mime/juggler guy in the lobby that my son absolutely loved. He was great. I think he ususally does his act on the Boardwalk outside, but it was so cold he had moved is show into the lobby of the hotel. We watched him for a while and then went up for some sleep. I'm sure Oblivia had a faux marble moment in the elevator again, but by now we had just started ignoring them.:sad2: Tomorrow was early EMH at Epcot so we zonked out as soon as we hit the pillow to recharge for our final day...and for once we weren't dreading it.

Well at this point, I think I need to go back and re read it myself it has been so long. OK here goes... The last day was relaatively uneventful. We were all so worn out from the previous days dramas. We got up early for EMH at Epcot. When we got down to the boat dock a boat was just pulling off so we were going to have to wait for another 15 minutes or so for another which would have made us late, so we walked over which only took about 10-12 minutes. We got the wheelchair and boogied on over to Soarin'. This time we waited to get to ride up front. It was worth the wait. I just love that ride, especially with shoes off. You really must take your shoes off to get the full effect. I even told this old guy next to me and he did it although with a look of reluctance, as if I was going to hurt him or something if he didn't do it. Man who does he think I am, Oblivia.:rotfl2:
Anywho we went on Living with the Land and then on to SE and U of E and then came back over later for Nemo which was a bust. What a waste of time. Even my ds who loves Nemo thought it was lame.
Then we did Test Track which was a hoot seeing Oblivia on a thrill ride. Sorry I don't have a picture to share. Then we headed around WS did Mexican small world, Maelstrom and had lunch at Lotus Blossom in China then watched the circlvision movie which I really love for some unknown reason. After that we went over to American Adventure and then headed back to the room. DH and my youngest son and I decided we wanted to hit RnR and ToT one more time while Oblivia and my other son took a rest. So we walked over, which was quite a hike, but it was fun. Later we decided not to go to MK as planned, but just hang out at the Boardwalk. My friend who is a CM came by after work to have a beer or 3 at Big River while Oblivia and the boys watched the mime/magician.
The next morning as we were preparing to leave my dh and I were sitting out on the balcony enjoying the view. He had a strange look on his face and then he uttered words I never thought I would hear him utter..."We need to come back soon." You see he is not nearly as big of a Disney Geek as I am, and really hates parting with money for such intangibles as vacations, but humors me, so I was quite surprised at this announcement. I looked at him puzzled and then it dawned on me what he was really saying. "Oh, I get it." I said. You need a Do-Over. He silently nodded his head, and that is how the summer trip was born. And the adventure begins... in 8 days!:yay:

JUst a little epilogue. The last 3 trips we have taken to Disney World have been with other people. 2 summers ago we went with friends of ours who are fellow Disney Geeks and we had a great time, but traveling with 8 people can be stressful, no matter how well you get along. Then last summer we went with DBIL and SIL our niece, her friend and our nephew, so that made 9 to keep up with and figure out "what do you want to do, I don't know, what do you want to do?" Again, we got along great and had a great time, but we couldn't just do "our own thing". Then the dreaded Oblivia trip was definitely the straw that broke the camels back. We needed a DO OVER! This time just the 4 of us, doing all of our favorites, on our own time schedule! We are looking so forward to that! Thanks for sharing the Oblivia journey with me my fans...all 8 of you:rotfl2: ! A group of us known as the June DIS Stalkers, including our illustrious leader DM(Disneyolic) will be doing a group trip report about our end of June adventures which will include lots of pics and stories of our June Dis Stalker meets as well as some Crocker Focker photos, so please look for us... coming soon to a thread near you!:thumbsup2

I can relate to the "big group" situation, Laura! Our first trip to WDW was my immediate family (parents and us four kids) and my aunt & uncle and two of their children - so we were 10 in total.... This was before Epcot, so there were less things to do, but still... every line or restaurant we came to, a CM would say, "how many in your party" and we'd say, "TEN!" and they'd say, "ooo....." and look directly at my uncle. :goodvibes Finally, he said, "THEY"RE NOT ALL MINE!!" :lmao:

Hey CK,
Another fellow stalker here who just found your TR and I just read the entire thing and really enjoyed it, even though your vacation seemed miserable with your MIL. :headache: I am so glad you will get the do-over you deserve and so soon too! I hope your upcoming trip is everything you hope it will be and more! :goodvibes

DH and I are going to take our 3 yr old DD to WDW for her first visit in July. Somehow my MIL, FIL, BIL and other BIL's 10 yr old DD got invited. It would be fine except I know I didn't invite all of them...and DH CLAIMS that he didn't invite them!! I'm hoping they all do what they CLAIM they will do... follow our lead (like trained monkeys:rotfl2: ) and don't think for themselves (its much better that way).
I'll be sure to say "sure smells like chicken" when we pass SE even though it will be closed when we are there... maybe one of your fans will be there to hear me !!
I laughed HARD while I read your TR and just keep praying mine won't be the same. Just one question, any chance Oblivia cloned herself and is living in PA as my MIL??:teleport:
Here's hoping I don't need any of these...:drinking1

OK, I just remembered one more thing that happened on that last day. It was another cell phone fiasco. On the boat back to BWV from Epcot my cell phone fell out of my pocket(unbeknownst to me at the time of course) and later on when I realized it was missing, I called it repeatedly hoping someone would find it and answer it so I could get it back. Well after a few hours and multiple calls some guy answers it on the boat to Epcot. He said he was on his way to Epcot and asked if he could leave it at the front desk at the Beach Club where he was staying when he returned later that night after 9. I said fine and after we had our drinks with my friend at Big River we took the boat over to BC around 9:45 to go get it. Well they said they did't know anything about it so had to send us to speak with someonel else, who went in the back and asked 3 other people and finally about 15 minutes later came out with my phone. Whew another close call. Lesson learned, put cell phones in zippered pockets on rides including friendship boats or else you'll be spending a lot of time trying to chase them down. So after all of that we are trying to get a boat back over to the BWV and it has gotten very cold and windy so we are shivering at the boat dock for like 15 minutes, which seems like forever in the icy winds and finally give up and have to walk back. I never thought I would see the day that I was freezing my a** off in Disney World, but that night we did. So, like idiots we plan a summer trip. Now we'll probably be sweating like pigs wishing for the cold again.

Man oh Man! I was so stressed out reading your Trip Report. You mother in law sounded a whole lot like Delswife's brother's wife. Totally annoying. I'm still not clear why you invited her along. But props (whatever that means) to you and your family for doing it.
I'm glad to hear you have another trip coming up soon. I'll look forward to reading about all your adventures.
I'm pretty sure the elevators at the Lodge have faux marble floors. They move so fast, it's hard to tell.

Whoa! This is huge. I feel like I have been visited by a celebrity! Thanks for visiting my trippie.
And to answer why we invited her along, she had gone through a year of cancer treatment which left her with some slight neurological impairment. Therefore I really wanted to do something nice for her. Leave it to her to ruin even a good samaritain act.:sad2: At least we tried and all in all were glad we did it now looking back, even if it was painful at times. We made some memories with her and gave her some joy(at least we tried to).:confused3
