Yesterday in the mail we got the school newsletter. It said it's been a great year so far, the musical was great, good job football team, etc. Then the principal had this thing about monitering your kid's myspace, facebook, etc. He says that he's been checking some student's lately, and how appalled he is and crap like that. Um, that's just a little creepy, if you ask me... Some of my friends were freaking out because they don't have theirs set to private.

So, the moral of this story? Just one more reason to keep your MySpace private! :p

Yea last year in the middle school our vice principle was lake the myspace moniter. He called you down to the office if he found your myspace and had something inapporpriate. Kindof stupid. Its like an invasion of privacy. But I know they mean well.

What? How does she check them if they're private?

I don't have one, but IMO, it isn't the principal's business to monitor people's myspaces. Doesn't he have administrative duties to carry out??

Expelled? That is a little extreme if you ask me...especially since Myspace isn't a school affair.

If you ask me, principals or vice principals can view your pages if they want, but they can't do anything about what they see. If you have a page on public, you can't call it an "invasion of privacy" because technically that isn't private.

I don't think principals or vice pricipals should be allowed to even give a person detention for a myspace or facebook page...myspace does not belong to the schools. They have no control over what you put in there.

Our vice principal looks at kid's profiles...I don't understand why though. I mean, they can all throw excuses out there, but if you ask me, I think they are all curious about myspace and want to see what their students are like out of school...not to "monitor kid's behavior" blah blah blah and what not.

No, they can't view a private profile. I don't know who told you they could lol, but they most certainly cannot. ;)

Exactly.

But, I think the reason our principal is doing it is because theres been a bunch of problems with drugs and alchohol at our school lately, and a lot of people say if they've done them in those surveys. So i think he's trying to see who's doing them, and if they're doing it at school.

Last year my Texas History teacher was looking up people's Xangas. It was after I deleted mine, but it was still pretty weird. He found one of my friend's and said, "M, I saw your xanga. I'm glad I didn't make your list but Mr. S did."

We were so creeped out. People think it's safe to have those things, even if yours is set on private, but people still have the option to message you and can still talk to you even if you have it on private. Look at what happened to the poor girl in Wisconsin...

I showcase my artwork on myspace. I don't have a thing to hide. They can look at it and read about me all they want.

I think its pathetic that the best thing my administration has to do with their time is monitor what I'm doing with mine.

I'm not thier responsibilty when I leave the building. What I do is not their problem as long as its legal and not hurting anyone. I'm private, so they'd have to add me to view mine.

Myspace is blocked on the school computers. I'm not on myspace at school. hence forth, they have no right to follow up on my myspace activities.

But if they insist, I welcome them, and I dare them to find something wrong with it.

No, but if you want to get really really creepy, you can make a fake profile and add them, and then view it.

Are you saying it like the principal can create a fake profile and view ours? lol. Sorry, I don't have my "read-and-understand" eyes on today lol.

I don't add anyone I don't know on my myspace and I keep it private. Not like I don't want people to read what I have on there, I just don't need any psychos adding me. lol. I have enough friends in real life where I don't need to search for online ones haha.

Creepy.
Keep your profile set to private.
Only accept people you know.
Only add people you know, or something like a band with an official MUSIC page. Anyone can pose on there.

I've known people who have gone to private schools who have gotten kicked out for having a myspace. Something about their guidelines don't condone them :confused3

I don't now what the hecks with myspace. it's just a place to talk to your friends outside of school. it's not like were talking to 40 year old pervs. i know this i have one but it;s just a band myspace for my band the betrayed liars and I can't put it on privite. and i only have 16 friends and those are people i know. in my opinion, myspace is stupid in my case i took a poll and it showed moat kids grades go down becuase of myspace becuase kids spend more time on it after school then they do homework, i bet some of you have a myspace and are adictide to it and have C's or lower so stop messing around with myspace and start focosing on something more important! myspace is stupid lets throw rocks at it!

This is the oddest post I've read in a very long time.

First you say you have a myspace.

Then myspace is stupid.

Then you took a poll.

And myspace makes kids' grades drop.

You spelled words incorrectly while telling people to focus on thier grades.

Then you're saying that some people have C averages or lower.

C is average. There is not a thing in the world wrong with having a C. I've had a C before. God, I've had Ds before.

Myspace has nothing to do with my grades. My ability to comprehend and work had to do with my grades. Not my myspace.

Actually, my myspace helps me out a lot. I'm an artist and I'm trying to get into an art school. I can speak to people who need me to make pieces for them which I can add to my portfolio. I would never have contact with these people without myspace. That art school will get me into any college I want to go to.

This post was contradictory, and offensive. JMO.

i totally agree with lil tink that its really creepy for a principal or teacher to look at my myspace. i wouldnt want them to because then it makes them looking like a sexual predator even if they were doing it for the right reasons it still doesnt make it right. i just dont want them checking my myspace out and calling me in to the office to tell me i need to change it. even if they did tell me to change it i still wouldnt cause its my personal buisness with what i put on their.

We got a letter last year about internet safety. I threw mine out, I mean it was actually asking parents to go on our msn's and like see who we had on it, check our history of where we've been and what we've been doing, and read through all of our saved files. It was ridiculous, it was asking our parents to become complete spies. I rather not have my parents following my every move, I'm not doing anything wrong, but it's none of their business.

we had a letter home about internet safety etc. which is pretty much agiven. I dont have a myspace, not cause i havent tried, but i found it kinda dull and time consuming. My school expelled someone for using it duing school time, heaven knows how she got onto it through the blocking system, but she did! But to be honest, she was breaking a serious school rule, so i can't say i have too much pity.

My dad can check my comp to see what i've been doing, but ive asked him to refrain from checking my MSN unless he asks me first, i dont want him reading my private convos that someone has told me in confidence. He has said yes to this, and i trust him.

Just a little note guys, dont be mean on this board, i know you want to express your opinions, but having a go because of peoples spelling is harsh, especially for those ether A) arent good at typing or B) have spelling issues (i know i do) its horrid to be called up on it.

Just a little note to keep this on the bright and breezy! :)
