We booked this trip in February. We go Dec 15-22 and it is the first trip for our 3 kids (dd9, dd7 and ds4). They don't have a clue! It has been so hard but we are down to 23 days so I should be able to last a few more weeks right?
We have the whole "reveal" planned for the night of 12/14 with my MIL and my parents here too since they are helping pay for this trip too as a gift. But I don't know if I can make it.
Yesterday the kids and I watched the new planning DVD. We watch the old one all the time. Well I noticed yesterday that they weren't so excited watching it. I think it is kind of like if you are always going to look at a model of car you love and want but you know you can't have it, well after a while it gets depressing. I think they watch these DVDs so much, we talk about Disney so much and they want to go so bad but we are always telling them "Not this year" that they are losing steam. :sad2:
I kind of want to just tell them so they have a few weeks to be excited about it but on the other hand we have waited this long and it really would be an incredible surpise to say "We are going to Disney in the morning!".
AAUUUGGGGHHHH!

I might suggest a "Keeper of the Secret" support group. I feel your pain. Because your kids are feeling a little down about always looking at Disney through the glass, I might suggest you sweeten the pot without revealing all. Whisper to each of them that you are finally gonna plan a trip, that in just three short weeks, you'll pick a date. That will start the Disney hype without blowing the surprise.

Sign me up! We have a trip planned for Dec. 9 - 16 and my kids AND my mom don't know about it! I don't know how I'm going to get through all of Thanksgiving weekend without blowing it to my mom. Since I planned this back in January I really can't believe I haven't yet, I've caught myself a million times about to make a comment!!
My kids are acting the same way - they talk Disney all the time, constantly asking to go there, I keep saying "maybe next year"... I think they're actually getting a little sad about it. But I'm going to hold out 'til the very end, I can't wait to see the look on their faces!

Charmed Life, that is it! Exactly what I am talking about! They did not seem happy watching the video yesterday, it was more like "Yeah, so what, I'll never get there" :sad2:
I am all for a Keeper of the Secret support group! I think all the folks planning suprise trips should band together to help each other stay strong in times of weakness!

KEEP THE SECRET!! It is so worth it!!
When we went last September, it was a surprise for our kids. We went with friends of ours, and they didn't tell their kids either. We planned the entire trip, and told the boys (we have two, they have three), the night before we left. My friend and I actually made a video telling the boys "Surprise! We're going to Disney World! TOMORROW!!".....They were shocked and speechless for a few minutes. Then, when it sunk in, they were screaming and running around like lunatics! Getting them to bed at night was a chore, but they LOVED being surprised. They asked if we could surprise them again sometime!! :goodvibes (our kids' ages when we went were 13, 10, 10, 7 and 6)
Well, we are going again in May 07, and this time our kids DO know that we are going, but they don't know when! They think we're going in June. I don't know when we will tell them we are going in May, but I think maybe the day before we leave!
Have a great time and keep the secret...just a little longer! :ssst:

I am taking my DD (8) Dec 9-15th and I have not told her. When I even talk about Disney she thinks its so far in the future that she just doesn't care. If she knew it was 18 days away she would go crazy! I am planning to tell her on the plane and see her reaction! Good luck and Keep the secret!

well, I'm totaly with you cuz I have only 9 days to go and haven't told my boys yet. They talk about going again all the time. I tell them when they are a little bigger they will go again. Well, they will be a little bit bigger next friday right?!
We are not going to tell them but I will have my camera on video mode when we are about to see the ME people.
It is killing me too cuz I cannot keep a secert. I ave been planning this sicne january too and ugh! 9 days is not soon enough.

That's Awesome! I would keep the surprise otherwise it would eat at them -- counting the days down.
We are going too... we thought about keeping the surprise but we wanted to make sure the kids really wanted to go (this would be in lieu of Christmas presents (toys) that they didn't really need to begin with).
We are using the Nativity Calendars for a countdown instead of Christmas countdown the days that we are going to Disney to celebrate Christmas!

shhhhh! keep the secret! It'll be worth it.
I surprised my DH (then boyfriend) with a Disney trip for his birthday one year. I left fake clues for his snooping purposes to make him think we were going skiing. He didn't find out until we arrived at the airport. So much fun!

I'm in the same boat, and I'm not going until June!!! Sign me up for the Suppot Group!
I'm going to wait until the last possible second to tell my kids. Hopefully I can get them packed (without them knowing) and in the car. I want to tell them we are picking up Edie (my best friend) and going somewhere (mall, beach, movies?)
Edie will come out her door with a suitcase and Mickey ears, and when she gets to the car say.."Is this the car to Disney World?!!??
That's my dream/plan...but I don't know if it will work out that way.

I'm starting our support group!
Hi  I'm Natalie.
I've been the "Keeper of the Secret" since the end of Feb. 06. I am keeping it from DS7, DS4.5 and DD4.5.
This will be our first time ever. I have been mentioning things for almost a year. "did you know that in WDW, you can ......." "Lightning McQueen and Mater now live in WDW, did you know that?" "you're tall enough to ride ...... at WDW, isn't that cool?"
We are traveling to Fort Wilderness in our motorhome for an 8 day stay. I plan to wait until the evening before the morning that we leave. I'll save the planning DVD (if it ever comes :sad2: ) until that evening, let them watch, then tell them we are ready to plan our trip. Haven't decided just yet, how to tell them.
any other "KOTS" out there?

I'm Allyson, another KOTS!
My kids are dd9,dd7 and ds4. DH and I have been to WDW (DH only once but I have gone a bunch of times but not since 1997). Our kids have never been and have wanted to go forever.
We booked this in February. We decided instead of buying a bunch of toys at Christmas again that are forgotton by February we would do a trip this year instead. Since it is their Christmas gift we decided to keep it a secret till the night before we leave. Boy has this been hard! More so in the last week or so as it draws closer.
Our plan is on Dec 14th we sit them down and tell them they can open one small gift. I'll tell them it is something they can use more before Christmas. I know they will think it is an ornament. However it will be their engraved Guest of Honor badges that I ordered from Gifts of a Lifetime. I think the oldest will be the one to put it all together when she opens it.
We leave the next morning and have other suprises that week too for them that we will keep secret (limo to airport up here, Illuminations Cruise, Holiday Sleigh Ride).
I know it will be worth it to continue to keep the secret and the video of the "reveal" will be priceless! I just need to stay strong the next 3 weeks!
Allyson :)

:ssst: another KOTS here...dd gets hyper about everything. I don't want her to stress over the trip for six months, so I haven't said anything....the funny thing is that she informed me that we are going to Disney World in April because "that's when you go to Disney World"...her first trip was on April 1st...we kept telling her we were going when it got to be April...well I guess it stuck. Anyway, I don't know when I'll tell her...I may just say we're going for a plane ride and then let her see Orlando when we get there.

My oldest DS is like that....he gets all stressed out and hyper over stuff (even the fun stuff). We took our kids to Disney in May 04, and he was in third grade. They knew about the trip, and he totally obsessed over going for weeks. It affected his school work and his teacher made a point to tell me that she thought it was due to the "upcoming vacation". After that trip, we decided that if we ever pulled our kids out of school for vacation again, we would NOT tell them. We've been once since then, and it was a surprise and worked GREAT! We are going again in May 07, but our kids think we're going in June. It's a little more stressful for ME, because my oldest is now in middle school, and organizing a trip around his school schedule is a little hairy....but so far so good!

I can understand! We've done the surprise thing twice now. Once was their first trip. They knew we were planning to go in May of 2004 and were having so much fun watching the planning DVD and sing-along DVDs. My parents bought an RV in October of 2003. Just before Thanksgiving my Dad decided he wanted an upgrade made to it. It could be done in Kissimmee and his work was going to be closed down from Christmas to New Years for some sort of system upgrade so they called and asked if he could take us to WDW Christmas week as a Christmas gift. So it was last minute planning and we decided not to tell the kids. They knew we were going to Florida for a trip and that we were staying somewhere called Sherwood Forrest (the name of the RV park we were to stay at since Ft. Wilderness was full). I had made reservations for the character breakfast at the Beach Club and we planned on not telling them at all and just going to that breakfast and let DS figure it out when he saw the characters (he was almost 4). My mother wanted to tell sooner so we decided to tell them the night before we were to go. We sat them on the couch of the RV and gave them each Disney sweatshirts and Disney Dollars and asked if they knew where they could use that. DS said "Disney World?" we said "YES! and we're going there IN THE MORNING!" We expected something along the lines of :bounce: :woohoo: and :dance3: and we got "Disney World? OK. [[[pause]]] Can we go swimming now?" ;) The next day was better as they were both in the  mode from the time they woke up.
The 2nd surprise was better. That was this past May. My mother and I were taking the boys (now 4 and 6) down for Star Wars Weekend to celebrate DSs 6th birthday and kindergarten graduation. I had everything all packed before we went to graduation. Afterwards we all went out to lunch. After we finished eating DH gave each of the boys $20 and said casually "you can spend that at Disney World." DS6 said "Daddy, you're silly! We aren't going to Disney World!" DH said "are you sure?" and I said "yes we are! Right now! BEtter get in the car!" My mother said "We have to hurry, our plan leaves in 3 hours!" They didn't believe it till we showed them the luggage. They were SO surprised and excited! I just felt bad for the people around us on the plane who had ot hear "we're really going to Disney World? Really that's where this plane is going? Why didn't I know we were going?" :teeth:

Hanging in there with just 13 days to go, only 12 till we tell them!
KOTS, don't you just find yourself in a web of lies as it gets closer? My girls take horseback riding lessons and today the instructor told us about a Christmas party at the barn on the 17th. She said to me in front of them "Can you come?", I was like "Ummm, yes I guess" and then she was telling them all about the games they will have to play, etc and in my head I am thinking "Crap, another lie!". It's all for the good of the secret though right? I can't wait to tell them!!!!!!

We just did our first surprise trip. The girls thought we were planning a trip for May when in fact we went in October. We told them we were driving to the grandparents and since we drive all night, they had no idea. We pulled over to the side of the rode and woke them at about 5:45 AM and told them something had happened. We had gone the wrong way so I guess we would just have to go somewhere else. It took a few minutes to sink in and the pictures said it all. It was great! We managed to keep the surprise for 8 months. It about killed us, but it was so great! Keep stong!

My family and I took 2 or 3 trips a year to WDW when I was growing up. I will always remember when my parents came to Sebring, FL to pick me up from golf camp and I begged them since we were so close to lets go to Disney. Of course they said no but my Dad decided that we could drive thru property on the way since we would pass right by it. I thought that was the MEANEST thing I had ever heard of and pouted in the back seat until we got to property.
My Dad pulls up to the parking gate (this was when there was just MK!) and told the guy we had reservations at the Golf Resort. I sat in the backseat thinking I couldn't believe my Dad was lying to the guy at Disney World! The parking attendant checked his list, found my Dad's name on the reservation sheet and handed him our info packet and gave us directions (not that we needed them!). I literally SQUEALED from the back seat! :)
One of the BEST trips ever!

We did the surprise trip a few years ago at Christmas. We were leaving on Christmas day. So early AM opening presents- kids all excited... then I say"Hey I think I saw something in the living room?" It was the year Toysrus was selling the HUGE mickey with purchase.. So we had mickey sitting on the sofa holding a note- the kids thought the big mickey was the present... then my oldest said" hey he has a note..." As he read it my younger daughter starts jumping up and down screaming. And the "NOW?!!??" was priceless. They kept saying "really today?!" YEP and off we went. It was a great trip and I love having that special surprise moment

Those pictures are priceless!!!!!!!!! I'm going to have my camera ready that's for sure. We aren't going until April 30 , but it will be a surprise trip. I've been planning since March, so i'm already going nuts.Still not too sure on how or when we are going to tell them. I was thinking on Easter, with a special egg hunt with the final clue telling them we are going to Disney World in twenty something days. But reading these secrets kept until the very end sound more exciting. I don't know now :confused3
We have only been to the MK before, we bought a one day pass in 2005, while staying in orlando. So whenever I decide to tell them, they will have no idea we are staying at the All star music suites until we pull into the WDW gates. If I can keep that secret as well.
The other week my ds10 said something about Disney and they all chimed in about wanting to go back, and they don't even know the half of Disney , we only went to the MK, I wanted to tell them sooo bad, but I had to say" Don't worry one day we will go back" And I felt terrible. I don't know why. My dd5 always tells me when we go back she' s going to ride dumbo with me, she says that all the time. So Dumbo is our first stop when MK opens. :bounce: :Pinkbounc
So I need help keeping my secret as well.

We are KOTS too! WE are flying out of Buffalo, so we have told our kids that we are going to Buffalo to shop for the weekend (explanation for suitcases). We are driving down the night before. Not sure just what we'll say at 3:30 the next morning when we catch the shuttle to the airport, but we want to keep them wondering as long as we can. I can't imagine making it until we land in Orlando and seeing their faces when we get to the ME bus! It has been hard not to spill the beans, and a few friends have almost blown it, but I don't think the kids have caught on. Having played up the big shopping trip has been a good cover. My ds has been really excited about going which surprised me (kid loving a shopping trip?) until we realized he thought Buffalo was in Florida!

Add me to the KOTS club!! My name is Trish and I am suprising DD(6)! We are going to WDW December 12 - 18!! This is a mommy/daughter trip to see my parents for MVMCP! The funny thing is that my parents only live a mile from us, here in Maine. It has been so hard to keep the secret from her. She knows that my parents are going to WDW and has cried twice already because she thinks that we are not able to go. You see, she has been to WDW twice and both times, my parents have been with us, so the thought of them going without her is killing her!! They are leaving 4 days before we are. Sometimes, I feel so mean!! Her birthday was last Sunday and I came so close to telling her!!
As for breaking the news, on Tuesday the 12th, I am going to get up and tell her that I don't feel like going to work that morning and will ask her if she wants to go out to breakfast. DH is going to take us to breakfast and then we are going to head to the airport. There he is either going to ask her if she wants to go for a ride in a plane or ask her if she wants to go to the Disney Store, and when she says "yes" explain to her that he does not mean the one at the mall, but at Disney World. My dad has asked that we tell her that Grammie and Pa-Pa do not know that we are going becuase we want to surprise them too. (I know how much he will play this up when he sees her down there) This will add another level of excitement for her!! I have already packed most of our stuff while she was with her Auntie last week, and plan on putting the luggage in the car the night before while she is sleeping. I cannot wait to see the look on her face when she realizes what is going on!!
We surprised her older brother and his best friend with a trip to Universal Orlando a few years ago, and as hard as it was to keep the secret from them, the reveal was great and it was worth every agonizing second of keeping the secret.

We just got our planning video. DD begged to watch it right away. She's decided now that she will go to Disney on September 13th....but then she figured out that we've already passed that date and got depressed. Hi, my name is Trish. Im a KOTS as well. My DD11 and DSs 8 Think we are going in July 2009. I can't wait to see their faces when I tell them the day before we go that I have some "bad news". We wont be able to go in July 2009 after all, because we are going tomorrow!!. (May 2007), and after seeing mimif1's pics of her girls faces(I loved those pics, btw), Im definitely having a video camera on hand for the reveal. I have been keeping this secret since May 2005. I feel like bursting sometimes trying to keep it. I have made ADRs for a CRT breakfast for my DD and Breakfastosaurus for my DSs, as well as HDDR ressies, and just the other day the finishing touch was put on. We are taking a limo from the airport to our resort (AKL). Oh I cant wait.....So count me in on the support group. :cool1: :thumbsup2

Cute on the KOTS siggie!
I just opened the mail and got a Christmas card from a good friend. Inside she wrote "Have fun on your trip!". I called her and said "What do you think you are doing????" (we are good enough friends that I can say that!). She didn't realize the kids had no idea! I promptly hid her card and was so glad I got the mail when the kids weren't home! We had a good laugh but that could have blown it, my oldest goes through our cards each day when she gets home to see what new ones arrived.

Another KOTS here! Just 2 more days for us. DS (6) has no clue. NOt a bit. He'll have to figure it out too. We'll get him up at 4AM on Friday and tell him we're bringing grandma to the airport. We'll have the car packed before we get him up. I hope to get pix just like earlier in the thread when he sees grandma driving off and leaving US at the airport with the luggage. I'm a KOTS too! We leave tomorrow for the airport at 8am and kiddos have no idea.
Like a PP said, this is our Christmas gift to the kids this year. We do go down to Disney once a year, but usually in the summer months because I don't want to pull them out of school, so this December trip is a first. We are going for a long weekend and will be home Sunday.
We have a ton of things planned to do. Tomorrow night 12/7 we are going to MVMCP, Friday night we have a carriage ride at WL and Saturday night we are going to CP.
Last night we watched the Holidays in WDW show with Raven (previously tivo'd) and the kids loved it. I think it will really get them in the mood.
We don't really know how we are going to tell them tomorrow, I would like to hold out until we get to the airport, but they might see the luggage and stuff in the back of the car (hatch type hood, no trunk).
Still have to pack everything tonight and such, so it will be a very busy evening once I get home from work. Dd has gymnastics until 8pm and ds has wrestling until 7:30, so it looks like it might be a late night for me. Which is fine, because I will be too excited to sleep....

Well, I almost blew it big time last night! The kids were downstairs playing. I was on the phone with my mother. She asked if had made any concrete plans for our time in Disney. (have I ?!?!? :lmao: she does not know the amount of time I spend here or she wouldn't have asked such a silly question) Anywho, I began to give her the run down on our plans and my DS7 was suddenly right behind me. He wanted me to come down and see the tent/fort they had made. He asked "Mom, does that mean were are really going soon?" I covered with "Well, someday it'll be our turn and I just want to be ready" His response was "UGH, you always say 'someday'".
Phew! I feel like I just eeked by!
I'll be more careful!

Whew, that was a close call! Glad you were able to cover it up!
Yesterday at Preschool one of the moms who I don't even know well but she is a close friend of my neighbor came over to my 4y and got right down to his level and said "So I hear you are going to Disney!!!". I about died. I said immediately "No we aren't, you must have us mixed up with someone else" My son was like "Mom what is she saying? We are going to Disney?"
AAAUUUGGGHH!! I covered it too and thankfully being 4 he pretty much bought that it was just this ladies silly mistake. She felt horrible. My neighbor had mentioned our trip to her in passing but had left out the suprise part. My neighbor called later apologizing profusely.
I would have been so mad if with just 7 days to go it was blown by someone I really don't even know!

Oh gosh it is killing me! I think about how we have waited this long and the next couple days just seem like an eternity!
It is so funny though, we have been dropping little hints left and right but they have no idea. They wanted to go out to lunch Sunday after church this past weekend. My DH told them if they could be good all week he would take them out to eat every day next week. They were like "No way Dad" but he insisted it was true so they are on best behaviour (my kids are foodies like me!). :thumbsup2
(I started a pre trip report on the pre trip board if you want to check it out, I'll be posting about the "reveal" over there for sure! My report is called "The I've Waited My Whole Life For This Christmas Suprise Pre Trip Report".)
I just wish Thursday would get here! I can't wait to see their faces!
Stay strong fellow KOTS! :thumbsup2

I was just wondering how all of your surprises went for those going last month!! I am now a KOTS member!! We want to surprise our twin DD's for their Spring Break trip. They've been 6 times already and have always been part of the planning and they LOVE, LOVE all things Disney (like their parents!). So, a surprise trip will blow their minds!! I'm not sure I can hold out for the next 3 months.
We are thinking about doing a treasure hunt also. I've been searching for other cute ideas!!
Let us know how the surprises went!!
