We are arriving at orlando the night before our cruise departs. Has anyone stayed at the airport and used disney transport in the am? Has anyone stayed at cocoa beach - and what kind of transport did you arrange. I am a single mom of a 5 yr old so want something simple (it will be a long day as it is ) - flying from edmonton in march. Thanks for help.

If you don't have access to a car, definately stay at an Airport Hotel.

Try Hotwire or Priceline to get one cheaper.

Also follow the cruise thread as sometimes they post when someone finds a great deal!

Last year we stayed at an offisite Airport hotel and it was great too! The shuttle came picked us up at the Airport and then returned us back the next day.

If you stay at an offsite hotel, make sure you bring your luggage with you when you check in for the Disney Transport. Other than that very easy! If you do get the Hyatt, they will take care of your luggage.

It was the Crowne Plaza.

I'll see if I have my notes still on price, but I seem to remember $70 range.

Found the notes.

It was $88.00 per night plus taxes.

We rented a car and dropped it off in Cocoa, it was chaeaper that using the ground transportation but I wasn't happy with the hotel in Cocoa...Confort Inn.

Next time, I would still rent a car but I was thinking of a night at POP or something. Sometimes you can get a room only CAA rate that is pretty good.

Also thinking about staying at Vero beach.

We stayed at the airport Hyatt a couple years ago because of a early flight. I think it cost us around 300CAD, very pricey. The conveniance of it though was great, our dollar wasnt so good then either.

Found a rental car for one day (May) Dollar at the airport-$27 everything in!
Alot cheaper than transfers. My next problem is where to park it at the Hyatt overnight.

keep in mind that the rate you got for a rental car likely does'nt include all the florida 'special fees' and 'surcharges', and if you are doing a one way from the airport to port canaveral there's another higher transport fee tacked on (because you are dropping off at a different location than picking up). also, make sure you go with a rental company that does a shuttle from their drop off to the cruise terminal (none are close enough to walk to).

we've stayed at the hyatt and done disney transportation-it's pricey (though if you check the hyatt website you can get some good deals), but it's incredibly convenient-you don't have to hassle with your luggage at the airport or at the cruise terminal, it's all taken care of for you. we've also stayed at the radisson in port canaveral-they have good rates, are about 5 minutes from the cruise terminal and have a shuttle (but then you have to arrange transportation to and from port canaveral).

just as an fyi-if you are flying home right after the cruise and will have a long wait at the airport (you get off the ship early that morning) the hyatt does a day rate that lets you have a room for quite a few hours. we've booked these and checked in after checking our luggage at the airport, with a kid (or in our case 2) it's much easier letting them watch cartoons than trying to keep them occupied in the airport (and we use the time in the room to take a nice hot shower-we're always in such a rush on disembarkation day).

Actually-that rate is the final rate-all charges in. We aren't taking it to port-just to visit WDW and do some shopping that day before taking the DCL transportation to port next morning. Less to rent a car than to pay for cabs everywhere.
