It might be blasphemy to post this here, but what the heck! I'm looking for cheap, but clean!
Any ideas or recommendations are greatly appreciated?

we stayed at the Clarion Universal for one nite, got a great rate from a code on this site. It was clean but that was it.

You probably get more responses on the Universal board...Hard Rock is great and have some specials going on now.
Hawthorn suites, HOliday Inn Suites, Ameri Suites, Country Inn and Suites are all decent.
You could try priceline for universal area, too.

www.go2orlando.com and www.orlandoinfo.com because they have information on all the great highly recomended properties in the Universal as well as I-Drive area.
You should definitely be in luck due to the fact that there are many excellent places nearby at great prices. Also, check out the reviews on www.mouseplanet.com and read about guests' stays in the hotels in this vicinity.
Hope this helps.

Go to Priceline and bid on a 3 star for the Universal area.
Right now the 3 star hotels are
Homewood Suites www.homewood-suites-orlando.com/
Parc Corniche Resort www.parccorniche.com/
Radisson Universal www.radissonuniversal.com/
Rosen Centre Hotel www.rosencentre.com/
Sheraton Studio City www.sheraton.com/property...1142&lc=en
Sheraton World Resort www.sheraton.com/property...=852&lc=en
Wyndham I-Drive www.wyndham.com/OrlandoRe...efault.cfm
Lately bids as low at $20 a night have been accepted. This way you can have a great hotel for next to nothing and THAT'S my idea of a deal!

I normally go to the DaysInn on Sand Lake. It is approximately a 5 minute drive to Universal Studios. You can go onto their website at www.daysinn.com. I've gotten a room for 29.95 on numerous occasions.

For the past three vacations, my family and I stayed at Hampton Inn South of Universal...I'm not sure if you are a AAA member, but we are and we got a reasonably low price for a room for four nights...about $98 dollars a night...

Thank You Robert Walker.....
I thought I was the only one that would admit staying here on numerous occasions, and liking it!
We've walked in a few times here and received that $29 + tax rate cause I was too tired to drive home.
If you don't like your room, they've plenty more you can look at to choose from!

Hi, we have in the past gotten great rates using www.hotelkingdom.com
We have stayed at the clarion universal, and at the new sleep inn and suites on major blvd. Using hotel kingdom, we saved over 20 dollars a night, the sleep inn is pretty new ( sept 2000) clean and has breakfast included, but most importantly, it is VERY CLOSE to UNIVERSAL !

There are several new hotels on Major Blvd. That puts you extremely close to UO and you don't have to deal with Intl. Drive at all. Not sure where you would find deals on them, and since several were being built this summer, I'm not even sure what is there right now.
We stayed in the Red Roof Inn in July. It was virtually brand new and we paid about $40 a night. I'd bet it's less now.
