Getting sentimental and mushy I know. But how am I going to say goodbye to my 9yr son? Especially when I have in mind 9/11 and 11/12? When I flew Oct 5th my son was with me!

Maybe this is mushy too, but hopefully it's the same way you say goodbye EVERY time.

don't ever say goodbye....
tell him you will see him real soon....with lots of hugs and kisses...
(this is what I tell my two sons when I fly alone)
goodbye is such a final term...I don't like it...
best of luck to you my dear, have a great trip :)

I have to do a lot of flying with my job. I just tell my kids that I will see them in a couple of days. That I will be back before they know it.
They still feel I am safer in the air than driving on the ground.

Esmeralda's reply reminded me of my grandmother. She also thought that "goodbye" was too final, so she would always say "so long". To this day, my dad (her son) never says goodbye - it's either "so long" or "see ya".
