This one I did so that other DISers could recognize me at the parks:

This one I did 'cause it reminds me of the 60's section of Pop Century, which is where we're staying in January!

Wow! I've seen a lot of your stuff on here. Do you make everything or buy it or what do you do? Like the flower one here in particular, what is that made of?

Thanks everyone for your compliments!!

I make everything myself that I post on the boards. Most of the time, even the beads that I use are ones that I've made. I use all kinds of stuff in my crafts! Polymer clay, resin, fabric - pretty much you name it I've probably used it!

Here's a pic of the back of the key ring that I just took real quick. It is made of polyclay:

Hi!

Would you mind sharing how you made the mickey? It looks like the Mickey whale of a punch. I have no experience with polyclay, so I don't know if you are able to use a punch with it (I seriously doubt it). Thanks! Your stuff is cute! :sunny:

I LOVE these! What is polyclay? Is it the stuff you get in little blocks, work until its soft then bake in the oven to harden? (Sold here under the FIMO brand)?

I am guessing that is exactly what it is. I went to Michael's yesterday and they had the Sculpey brand on sale for $1.00 a block. SOOO brought some home, tried it.... going back to get some more. I will post a picture of my try at this later today. (first have to take the picture!) :) The tricky part is trying to find out how to make the shape. I need to find a better stencil or something......

I for one need an idiots guide to anything new I am doing (that includes clay). If someone would be willing to post REALLY detailed instructions I'd appreciate it.

Can you use the whale of a punch with clay? I don't want to ruin my punch to find out.

I am still trying to figure it out. I have one done but am really not happy with it. The more I look at the picuter it looks like it is paper layed over the clay. This is my project tolday so HOPEFULLY I will be able to post a picture later.

Wish the OP would come back and give us some hints.

Do they sell this anywhere besides WDW, like kitchen stores? If I ever went into a kitchen store I might know the answer to this . . .

Soooo you are telling us that cooking isn't your "passion"!!

I looked everywhere I could think of with NO luck. (I didn't want to order it online) Actually what I did was cut LGMH (paint sample from Home Depot) and used the backing of the paint sample for my stencil. Then once the clay was ready I layed the stencil on top and used my exacto knife to cut out the Mickey head. I know.... I know.... sounds REALLY easy .... you know how long it took me to figure that out! :)

I should be doing my Power point presentation for my Environmental Class but here I am.... thinking of an easier way to cut out Mickeys. :) The one that I had finished is now among the missing !!!! Had it in my hands at Staples to ask the guy about photo transfers and now I can't find it! DARN DARN DARN!

My poor family will definately agree that cooking is not my speciality!

I tried cutting around the LGMH with a purple scupley tool, but it came out very choppy and the edges were not smooth at all. It's not too bad for my first attempt at sculpey, but I would like to try more. Maybe an exacto knife would be better.

I used the exacto knife. Had to make sure that the knife was straight up and down and not slanted. I promise if I ever get caught up I will get that darn picture posted!! DH has been TDY for the past month so life around here has been crazy. We also just found out his unit has recv'd a warning order :crazy2: :scared: .... Oh I guess I need to explain that DH is in the military.
I have been having a lot of fun playing with a few ideas. Now I am just tyring to figure out how to cast my little projects in resin. :confused3

I bought something called glaze by Sculpy brand. It is a clear finish that comes in satin (which I hope is clear and glossy) and another clear (maybe a matte type :confused3 ). It's one of my many projects waiting for me. When I eventually try it I can let you know, but it might be a week.

OK, so I know it is just a little project but DARN this is getting addictive! The casting came out really cool. It took forever to dry and SMELLS ~~ PU STINKY ~~ but needs a little sanding to clean it up a little. I couldn't get the darn thing out of the mold! DH is going to help me on drilling a hole for the jump ring. (He came home Friday night! ... :woohoo: )
I haven't used the scuptey sealer, although I think it may be better than the poly sealer I have. That seems to peel if you put too much on.
SO the goal today is to get the jump ring drilled and take some pics AND post them today..... what else am I going to do with DH and DS hooked to the TV for the rest of the afternoon! :) DD6 & DD5 and I will play with clay!:) Ofcourse they will have NOTHING to do with drilling and sealing but they can have some fun with the clay.

Is that how you do it? I made one Mickey head (it was thin and scary) and I baked the jump ring into it. I have been trying to figure out if I would melt beads if I tried to put them on. This would also solve my problem of wanting the clay to be loose enough to spin on the jump ring!

Well drilling the hole is for the resin. But PRIOR to this resin brainstorm (and I mean that sarcasticly) I would take a pencil point and punch a hole through the clay BEFORE I baked it. This way the mickey head would move freely around the jump ring.
If they are glass beads I don't thtink there should be a problem with melting. I had wanted to try that too...
BUT this resin stuff is driving me crazy! :)

No I haven't, I would be afraid of them melting in the oven. Now if they were glass beads I don't think it would be a problem.

By accident!! :) I just rolled all three colors together into a tube and cut little circles and rolled it out, layed the stencil down and.....TA DA ..... red, white and blue mickey head! It has a resin seal on it so it won't break. That was the tricky part, I went through three different products before I found one that worked.

Which resin finally worked? Do they make a mickey head stencil or did you create one yourself?

:)

EnviroTex Lite Pour-on finish. It stinks to high heaven! Read the directions from top to bottom before you start. Once you pour it.... LEAVE IT ALONE! ;) It will need about a day to cure, then flip it and do the other side. I can't stress enough to make sure you read the directions in full before you start.

I picked up a few blocks at joann today, fimo, sculpey...

I was looking for the post that said you can bake your headpins/eyepins/jumprings into the clay...??

also, I'm getting a little worried that I shouldn't bake my polyclay in my regular oven? Is that really bad? Do I really have to get a separate toaster oven? I have no room for MORE appliances! LOL I just wanted to test out this clay stuff...

I guess you could bake your jump rings into it, I just made the hole before baking it.
I used my regular oven, no problem. What I did do was designate an old cookie sheet for it. This way I won't be baking cookies on it. What stinks (PU ~ SMELLY) to high heaven is the resin and that you aren't baking.
Have fun with it.... my kids and I are! :)

I baked something into mine. I have never done this before I think it's a jump ring, but it was some long thin metal piece with a circle on the end.

Baking it in puts the clay on nice and firmly, but if you want to add beads or something you are out of luck. It seems like you could bake glass beads on the jump ring with the clay, but I haven't tried it.

I'm letting 7 year olds do this as a back pack clip for my DD's B-day party so I'm trying to keep it super simple.

The B-day party went well! We had 9 seven year olds making mickey head backpack clips using the home depot paint chips as a template. Then they added their initials using a mold I bought. We didn't use any resin or anything. They were pretty plain, but the kids liked them.

Now I want to experiment myself to make some shiny ones, I just love shiny things. I'd better get caught up on my scrapbook first though. So many crafts so little time.
