I guess it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that the new contest is only open to U.S. residents. We put up with a lot of _____ to find out we can't play!!! :furious:

It is too bad, but I am sure it has something to do with Legally winning prizes. I think if it was up to the DIS mods we would be included too. Keep in mind all the other non-US people are exculded (UK etc) so it's not just us.

But - it does suck!

How disappointing.:badpc: I am more disappointed that they posted the contest in the forums that would not be able to participate than participating itself. Honestly if everyone cannot participate then it should not have been brought forward.
All it encourages is segregation back into our own forums.:confused3

The good news is in 11 weeks we are off to WDW and all this little contest stuff will be nothing but a passing memory. There are lots of great people on Dis and I personally have to thank every single awesome person who helped us plan the best vacation ever! The Canadian DIS Board Rocks! :rainbow:

In defense of the Admin on disboards, all they did was set a global Announcement for everyone so that's why it's on the Canadian Trip Planning side.

It does suck that it's not available to Canadians.. but we always get stiffed when it comes to contests in the US

I was waiting for the announcement thinking it was everyone.

I believe there were several (at least three) that asked directly if CDNs can play and I don't think we ever got a clear answer - Guess they have ansered the question now.

Perhaps they should come up with something special that only we can participate in.

We were not allowed to enter into this also, despite these 'celebs' posting on the UK boards, it does seem a bit strange to go to all the trouble of attempting a slow build up of a big announcement only for so many people on the boards not to be able to take part.

I'm sure they tried but other contests manage to include residents from outside the US. Not sure why it wasn't the case here? Maybe the administrators should try to answer that question.

I went to order my personalized maps and of corse they do not send to canada then I go try and sign up for this contest and no luck with that either I can understand the contest but the maps?! comon Disney! i want my maps!!

I do agree that it is disappointing that we weren't told right from the beginning that non-US DISers might not be able to play for the prizes, but please realize that the admins did work really hard to see if there was a way they could allow international DISers to play. I PMed Tim and was touched by his response as to how they tried really hard to make it work within the international laws, but the legalities concerning prizes being awarded to non-US residents are such that there was no way for them to be able to include internationals DISers.

As an aside, they are still working on some special way for us to play along, just without the real prizes.....but perhaps a virtual reward. Here is Tim's quote from yesterday:


I did get confirmation from the top that we will be able to work in some fun want to reward non-US residents who would like to play along. It won't be a tangible prize, but it will be something cool that nobody has ever had a chance to do before! As soon as I find out how they want to handle the signups for you guys, I'll let you know.
