My husband has that problem. For him, it's chronic. He has to have that proceedure done on both feet at least once a year. It's no big deal as long as you can get past the huge needle he's going to shove in your toe. He numbs you first, but just watching gives me goosebumps. But after he lets you numb for awhile, then he uses some tools to cut and trim the nail on the side and remove it and then he'll put some cloth things in there to soak up the icky stuff. He'll wrap it and tell you to change it and clean it and when it's done being icky, you're good to go for healing. :) It's really not so bad. My husband said if he talks and doesn't look at what the doctor is doing, he doesn't even know what's going on. So try that if it starts to bother you. Besides, if you let it go, they'll start to hurt something awful and you don't want that.

Uh, nevermind about that. Don't worry, it wil be fine! Just bring your Ipod or Walkman and relax. Oh wait. You can't bring that.
But it's not liek your feet will get chopped off. And if it does, you get one of those cool fiberglass ones!

Yes this year starting around march but I got the in-grown part removed
If you get past the needle they poke into your skin (worse part) the rest is your num and won't feel it

he sprayed stuff to calm my nerves down, it was so cold its hot, then it started to burn and before u know it the needle was in, then it came out.
my routine was ow,ow,ow,ow just waiting for the actual pain. yes i know pain, just try grinding 8 stairs and falling right between your legs...

Sounds like you got lucky; I had this done a few years ago and my toe hurt like the opposite of heaven for a week. I couldn't put any weight on it and if I ever had it below my heart it would throb like nothing I'd ever felt before. And no, I'm no sissy wimp; I don't even flinch at stuff that most girls would be screaming their heads off about. It just dang hurt!

Ouch, sounds dreadful. But I'm glad the process went smoothly for you! Just reading this thread makes my toes twinge in pain, haha.
