Oh, I am right there with you Mike!! Snow - such a BAD word!! Here in NH, I am basically miserable from September through May. It makes me want to cry to see the leaves turning color because I know what's coming next (brrrr). I asked Santa this year for a house in Florida - we'll see if I get it :) :) :)

I am SO with you on that one. Ugh, cant stand the snow. So much in fact that my family has nicknamed me Heatmizer lol. I'm bascially miserable from decemeber to may, but hey i can admit it lol.

What did i ask santa for this year? same as every year, a TAN! lol. I'd much rather be stringing lights in the palm trees and singing silent night with my toes in the sand, but hey thats just me. ;)

Oh, I'm not a fan of snow either, unless I'm driving TO it to SKI on (not that I can really ski).

But perhaps these pictures will soften the blow a bit: http://www.its.caltech.edu/~atomic/snowcrystals/photos/photos.htm

Be sure to click on some of the thumbnails. WOW!

Of course my brother and I would always make a bunch of snowballs, dip them in a bucket of cold water, and then let them sit outside for about an hour, before taking them in buckets to my friends field for the snowball fight. Hey, everybody plays dirty when its a snowball fight.

OUCH!

We hardly ever get snow here, so since you guys just hate it so send some down South we will take it!

So, where the heck is the snow? Yes we have a few inches. But like Bubbasfriend, hey, you were going to send some my way too!! Where is it?

Brain, my friend, will you share some as you get yours?

Anyone else feels like sending some my way, woot! Ready and waiting! :Pinkbounc

On a side note, I seemed to have accidently sent my brain to someone via FedEx, as well! I can't seem to get my thoughts pulled together to finish this one last research paper tonight! (And yes it is due tomorrow and yes I am procrastinating and yes I will get it done!) ARGH! No more research papers! (Too bad I still have many more to come before my Masters is done...)

On Monday night I went food shopping with my Fiance. He gave me the car keys as he was going to put the trolley back. Well this was a big mistake as his key had a crack in it and when I put it in the lock the end snapped off. All the food was locked in the back and his spare car keys were at his Mum's house approx 2 hours away. So after many phone calls we got picked up and taken home so that I could get my car and then started driving towards David's Mum's house whilst his Dad drove towards us so that we could meet in the middle. All's going well until the road we needed to go down was closed. After a detour we finally met up with his Dad and retrieved the key. On the way home we encountered more road works :earseek:
We finally get David's car and get back home for 11.30pm. Luckily we didn't have any frozen food so all was not lost but boy what a day.
We can now laugh about it but we certainly were not laughing when it happened.
So girls be warned, if you man hand you his car keys smile and say no thank you and then you will not get the blame for breaking anything :Pinkbounc

OK, in honor of all the Canadians here (I'm not one of them, not tough enough), and to mock all those here complaining of the cold, here's an old chestnut dug out of the internet:

50°F - New Yorkers try to turn on the heat. Canadians plant gardens.

40°F - Californians shiver uncontrollably. Canadians sunbathe.

35°F - Italian cars won't start. Canadians drive with the windows down.

32°F - Distilled water freezes. Canadian water gets thicker.

20°F - Floridians wear coats, gloves & wool hats. Canadians throw on a t-shirt.

15°F - Californians begin to evacuate the state. Canadians go swimming.

0°F - New York landlords finally turn up the heat. Canadians have the last cook-out before it gets cold.

-10°F - People in Miami cease to exist. Canadians lick flag poles to see if their tongue will stick.

-20°F - Californians fly away to Mexico. Canadians throw on a light jacket.

-40°F - Hollywood disintegrates. Canadians rent some videos.

-60°F - Mt. St. Helens freezes. Canadian Girl Guides begin selling cookies door to door.

-80°F - Polar bears begin to evacuate Antarctica. Canadian Boy Scouts postpone "Winter Survival" classes until it gets cold enough.

-100°F - Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Canadians pull down their ear flaps.

-173°F - Ethyl alcohol freezes. Canadians get frustrated when they can't thaw the keg.

-297°F - Microbial life survives on dairy products. Canadian cows complain of farmers with cold hands.

-460°F - ALL atomic motion stops. Canadians start saying "Cold 'nuff for ya?"

-500°F - Hell freezes over. The Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

LOL you are surprised about a snow day for 3 inches of snow...

As a kid we had snow maybe 5 times while I was in school. Each time we got a day off school- the most we got was about 2" and that was once- usually it is closer to 1/4 and 1/2 inch of snow- but trust me everything must close because we people who can drive in 6 inches of water with no problems can't drive on ice at all.

I do recall one time I was in 3rd grade and called my best friend all excited about the snow and the day off school. Her mom answered the phone and asked if I was ill- since I wasn't at school- you see she had sent my friend and her sister off to school on foot as usual- without a second thought- they had only just moved from Maine the year before and really the snow was nothing to think about so she thought nothing of it.

But from that day on my friend always got to harass her mom about making her "walk to school in the snow" and when we wanted to be really obnoxious we'd add things like barefoot without a coat -lol

So we will get snow days here easy-even have had them if none is staying on the ground and it is just falling in flurries.

Enjoy your snow!

As a child I have fond memories of going to my friends house and sledding down their huge hill. As an adult, I have memories of sliding down my driveway trying to shovel snow; only to have the snow plow go down the street and block the drive with snow. Oh yeah, and the fact that snow (or ice) was no excuse for being late for work. Unfortunatly the adult memories are more vivid than the kid memories. I still don't miss it.

I still take the Disney bubble snow over the real stuff!

No snow here. Just rain and more rain. Temps are in the mid-60s -- I actually had to wear socks this morning ;)

All the morons are out tho - My 40 minute drive to work was closer to 1h 15m due to the ineptitude of people who can't handle things falling from the sky while they drive. *sigh*

Here in Maryland, we don't usually get snow until after Christmas. However, this year is breaking the cycle... anyway, I remember one year when I was about 9 or 10, we were going to my Uncle's house in New Hampshire for Christmas. I was so excited because FINALLY, I would get my white Christmas. Well, what do you know.. NO SNOW IN NASHUA on Christmas that year, and guess where it did snow? HERE AT HOME! LOL

We are in for another snow storm tonight, though we will likely get a few inches of snow tonight, then it will change into freezing rain.. most likely a snow day tomorrow.. hate the ice!

yeah, what is it with that? I have lived in Florida for almost 4 years and I can never understand why, in a state where it rains all the time, people suddenly forget how to drive when it rains? What is that?

And to all you people up north talking about this "snow" stuff...well, I just had to get my sweatshirt back from my sister since I don't have a coat and it is FREEZING here...I mean the other night at work it was like 55 or something. I can't handle this. I can't wait until our 2 months of winter is over and the summer comes back for the other 10!

I'm right with you! It hits 65 and I'm cold. With having Reynauld's, the cold feels even colder. I'd never make it if we ever move back north. As for the drivers, it's tagged on an extra 10 minutes for me to get starwarskid to school, just because of the snowbirds and tourons. Add the rain, and it's even more time. I think the horse and buggies back in Lancaster County, Pa moved faster than drivers yesterday.

Spending a day with your kids reminds you of the joys that they are, and the miracle of them growing up, especially as they start to develop language and personality.

Case in point: DD#2, 16 months old.

Today, I thought back on her first word. After countless sleepless nights, mountains of diapers containing things too foul to be mentioned, the worries, the joys, I remember seeing her angelic face, looking with those innocent, beautiful eyes, into mine, and she said her very first word:

Banana.

(well, actually a-na-ma, but I knew what she meant)

A few weeks later, I was SO proud when she put together her first 2 word sentence. It was after she was crying piteously, needing the comfort and attention that only a parent could give. It was a difficult day, a long day at work, but I knew that my baby needed me. So I picked her up, and she uttered her first sentence!

No Daddy!

(and twisted and writhed to reach mommy)

Finally, today, the culmination of language development. She has finally put together 3 words, the 3 words that you long to hear from your child.

I want it

(as she clutched a gigantic stuffed animal toy in a store)

Could somebody remind me why I signed up for this?

I need to confess. I believe I have violated the ultimate holiday taboo. This morning, desperately hungry, looking around and finding nothing else to eat... I finally realized I had no other resort, no other options.

I ate the fruitcake.

What have I done?!?!!

I think back, on the until now, unbroken chain of giving. Fruitcake given, fruitcake received. From person to person, a link stretching far into the past. Who knows how many years this fruitcake had passed hands? And now, in a fit of unthinking hunger, I have ended the fruitcake passing tradition.

I'm also worried. These things aren't actually meant to be consumed, are they?

Edited to add: quite clearly, my morning coffee has not kicked in yet.

We have finally put up our Christmas tree :cool1:
This year we have opted for a real one so after buying the tree and driving back with it stuck through the front seats of the car we get it home to find that it doesn't actually fit into the tree stand! Luckily my Mum's partner is at hand with a pen knife to try and get the trunk down to the right size. After 20 minutes of sawing we finally have a tree standing proud, but most of the needles are on the floor as well as a few creepy crawlies. It is now too late to decorate it as I totally misjudged how big this tree was going to be and only bought 1 set of lights.
After another trip to the hardware store we now have a fully decorated tree, lights in the window and a wreath on the door. I'm now in the festive mood and will be playing Christmas songs until the new year.
(I must admit the smell was beautiful as I walked into the lounge the next morning but I think the artificial tree will be coming out next year.)

I have a few questions/comments:

To JeanJoe/Bezoar: What is the deal with the fruitcake thing? I guess my family and friends never participated in THAT tradition. So people really pass the same fruitcake to each other every year? I've never eaten a fruitcake: do they go bad? EW!!!

To everyone talking about FedEx-ing snow....are you seriously doing that???? Or joking?

And to all kids who have snow days from school...yay! I know how you feel: I am so glad I was a kid in NC instead of FL....snow days were the best (even if you have to make them up later...ah, who cares; it's next year!) I can remember sitting on the edge of my seat watching the closed school list roll by on the TV with my Mom...praying...and then the joy of seeing my school and immediately running back to bed!!! I always wondered why Mom looked disappointed...wasn't she happy for me?!

So, we've just gotten back from visiting my husband's grandfather in ICU back where we moved from. Five hours in the car each way. Between the car ride and DH's family, I was feeling stressed. It was all quiet in the house when my DS 6 starts yelling "Alert ALERT ALERT!!!!" I come running to where he is in the hallway in front of the bathroom. He stares at me with these huge eyes and says, MOM THERE IS A FROG IN THE TOILET!!! :earseek: I think, yeah right. I look in the toilet, and nothing but water in the bowl. I start to tell him he is seeing things when right under the rim of the toilet I meet a set of creepy googly eyes.

Yes Virginia, there is a frog in the toilet. :rotfl: So, now we sit and wait for DH to get home with the lid down on the toilet. I am sooo not touching a frog!! :rotfl2:

....there is a frog in the toilet. :rotfl: So, now we sit and wait for DH to get home with the lid down on the toilet. I am sooo not touching a frog!! :rotfl2:

I am SO with you on that one. I am terrified of frogs...they creep me out. Glad I'm not the only one. One time there was a frog on our patio, and my fiance, CoughCoolGhoul, was going out there. It was near the door and I told him to get it away before it came inside. I was inside and he faked like he was throwing the frog at me. Of course I knew he would never do that, but my instinct made me flinch. I actually cried! He was so sorry that he had upset me so much, it was cute the way he apologized over and over. Frogs, spiders, centipedes, moths: these are creatures I am not thrilled about.

And Bubbasfriend: how exactly are you Fed-Exing snow??? Just curious! If you have not sent it yet, maybe you could send me some! I have not seen snow in a long long long time! :goodvibes It's really hard to get into the Holiday spirit in Florida. The only way I can do it is to drive down this famous street where everyone decorates their houses as gaudily as possible with lights and everything you can think of. Almost the whole neighborhood gets into it, but one street in particular EVERYONE does it. They even string lights across the street from house to house....cars drive by very slowly and the traffic is insane! Everyone who lives there stands in their yards waving to the cars, singing, and sometimes giving out candy and cookies. There is nothing like driving through there, playing Christmas music on the radio, and singing along to get you in the Holiday mood! If anyone lives in Tampa you know where I mean.

:guilty: Does anyone else have a MIL who seems intent on making your blood pressure rise?

Case in point: My MIL asked what she could get DS for Christmas, and we told her he is dying to get this one video game. We were going to buy it, but if she wanted to get it, that would be fine. Great, she says. Flash forward to today when she calls DH and tells him she just sent money today. It's a week before Christmas, the game is sold out everywhere and I am being a lunatic trying to find the game or something else. Arg.....that's all I can say.....Arg!

Things to do in the elevator!!
1. When there's only one other person in the elevator, tap them on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn't you.

2.Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.

3.Ask if you can push the button for other people, but push the wrong ones.

4.Call the Psychic Hotline from your cell phone and ask if they know what floor your on.

5.Hold the doors open and say your waiting for a friend. After a while, let the doors close, and say, "Hi Greg. How's your day been?"

6.Drop a pen and wait until someone goes to pick it up, then scream, "That's Mine!"

7.Bring a camera and take pictures of everyone in the elevator.

8.Move your desk into the elevator and whenever anyone gets on, ask if they have an appointment.

9.Lay down the twister mat and ask people if they would like to play.

10.Leave a box in the corner, and when someone gets on, ask them if they can hear ticking.

11.Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the passengers.

12.Ask, "Did you feel that?"

13.Stand really close to someone, sniffing them occasionally.

14.When the doors close, announce to the others, "It's okay, don't panic, they open again!"

15 Swat at flies that don't exist.

16.Tell people that you can see their aura.

17.Call out, "Group Hug!" and then enforce it.

18.Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering, "Shut up, all of you just shut up!"

19.Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside, ask, "Got enough air in there?"

20.Stand silently and motionless in the corner, facing the wall, without getting off.

21.Stare at another passenger for a while, then announce in horror, "Your One of THEM!" and back away slowly.

22.Wear a puppet on your hand and use it to talk to the other passengers.

23.Listen to the elevator walls with your stethoscope.

24.Make explosion noises when anyone presses a button.

25.Stare, grinning at another passenger for a while, then announce, "I have new socks on".

26.Draw a little square on the floor with chalk and announce to the other passengers, "This is MY personal space!"

LOL, I love this. I read a similar one that is "fun things to do in Walmart". I'll try to find it and post it here. My Fave on this list is:

25.Stare, grinning at another passenger for a while, then announce, "I have new socks on".

I don't know why I like that one, I just do :) It's like something I would do :rotfl2:

69 Things to do at Walmart (taken from Ehumorcentral....edited by me for explicit content, edits and personal comments by me made in brackets [like this])

1. Take shopping carts for the express purpose of filling them and stranding them at strategic locations.

2. Ride those little electronic cars at the front of the store.

3.Set all the alarm clocks to go off at ten minute intervals throughout the day.

4. Start playing Football; see how many people you can get to join in.

5. Run up to an employee (preferrebly a male) while squeezing your legs together and practically yell at him " I need some tampons!!"

6. Try on bras in the sewing/fabric department.

7. Try on bras over top of your clothes.

8. Make a trail of orange juice on the ground, leading to the restrooms

9. While walking around the store, sing in your loudest voice possible "[beep] and candy"

10. Walk up to an employee and tell him in an official tone, "I think we've got a Code 3 in Housewares," and see what happens.

11. Tune all the radios to a polka station; then turn them all off and turn the volumes to "10".

12. Play with the automatic doors.

13. Walk up to complete strangers and say, "Hi! I haven't seen you in so long!..." etc. See if they play along to avoid embarrassment.

14. While walking through the clothing department, ask yourself loud enough for all to hear, "Who BUYS this [crap], anyway?"

15. Repeat Number 14 in the jewelry department.

16. Try putting different pairs of women's panties on your head and walk around the store casually.

17. Leave small sacrifices or gifts in the hands of the mannequins.

18. Play soccer with a group of friends, using the entire store as your playing field.

19. As the cashier runs your purchases over the scanner, look mesmerized and say, "Wow. Magic!"

20. Put M&M's on layaway.

21. Move "Caution: Wet Floor" signs to carpeted areas.

22. Set up a tent in the camping department; tell others you'll only invite them in if they bring pillows from Bed and Bath.

23. Contaminate the entire auto department by sampling all the spray air fresheners.

24. Nonchalantly "test" the brushes and combs in Cosmetics.

25. Drape a blanket around your shoulders and run around saying, "...I'm Batman. Come, Robin--to the Batcave!"

26. TP as much of the store as possible.

27. Randomly throw things over into neighboring aisles.

28. Play with the calculators so that they all spell "hell[o]" upside down.

29. When someone asks if you need help, begin to cry and ask, "Why won't you people just leave me alone?"

30. When two or three people are walking ahead of you, run between them, yelling, "Red Rover!"

31. Look right into the security camera, and use it as a mirror while you pick your nose.

32. Take up an entire aisle in Toys by setting up a full scale battlefield with G.I. Joes vs. the X-Men.

33. Take bets on the battle described above.

34. Set up another battlefield with G.I. Joes vs. G.I. Janes. (Red lipstick might give an interesting effect!!!)

35. While handling guns in the hunting department, suddenly ask the clerk if he knows where the anti-depressants are. Act as spastic as possible.

36. While no one's watching quickly switch the men's and women's signs on the doors of the rest room.

37. Dart around suspiciously while humming the theme from "Mission:Impossible." [this sounds like fun]

38. Attempt to fit into very large gym bags.

39. Attempt to fit [I]others into very large gym bags.

40. Fill your cart with boxes of ["protection"], and watch everyone's jaws drop when you attempt to buy them.

41. Set up a "Valet Parking" sign in front of the store.

42. Two words: "Marco Polo."

43. Leave Cheerios in Lawn and Garden, pillows in the pet food aisle, etc.

44. "Re-alphabetize" the CD's in Electronics.

45. In the auto department, practice your "Madonna" look with various funnels.

46. Hide in the clothing racks and when people browse through, say things like "the fat man walks alone," and scare them into believing that the clothes are talking to them.

47. While walking around alone, pretend someone is with you and get into a very serious conversation. Ex: The person is breaking up with you and you begin crying "How could you do this to me? I thought you loved me! I knew there was another girl, but I thought I had won. You kissed ME darling." Then act as though you are being beaten and fall onto the ground screaming and having convulsions.

48. When an announcement comes over the loudspeaker, assume the fetal position and scream, "No, no! It's those voices again!"

49. Go to an empty checkout stand and try to check people out.

50. Drag a lounge chair on display over to the magazines and relax. If the store has a food court, buy a soft drink; explain that you don't get out much, and ask if they can put a little umbrella in it.

51. Get a stuffed animal and go to the front of the store and begin stroking it lovingly, saying "Good girl, good bessie."

52. Go over to the shoe department and try on every pair of shoes, not putiing one pair back. Take the paper from the boxes and throw it in various aisles.

53. When someone steps away from their cart to look at something, quickly make off with it without saying a word. I want to buy it! (I got that from George Carlin's book "Brain Droppings")]

54. Follow people through the aisles, always staying about five feet away. Continue to do this until they leave the department.

55. Ask other customers if they have any Grey Poupon.

56. Test the fishing rods and see what you can "catch" from the other aisles.

57. In the makeup department, spray yourself with every perfume there is, then walk up to a boy who is with another girl and start flirting with him in that annoying, ditsy way. "hi!!!! (giggle) What's your sign?(giggle)." When the boy shows no interest, start hitting on the girl the exact same way. "hi!!!! (giggle) What's your sign?(giggle)." [also, ask if they are 'taken'!!!! :rotfl2: ]

58. Hold indoor shopping cart races.

59. Re-dress the mannequins as you see fit.

60.When there are people behind you, walk REALLY SLOW, especially thin narrow aisles. [no one would notice, everyone does this anyway].

61.Relax in the patio furniture until you get kicked out.

62.Challenge other customers to duels with tubes of gift wrap.

63.Pay off layaways fifty cents at a time.

64. Say things like, "Would you be so kind as to direct me to your Twinkies?"

65. Make up nonsense products and ask newly hired employees if there are any in stock, i.e., "Do you have any Shnerples here?"

66. Ride a display bicycle through the store; claim you're taking it for a "test drive."

67. Leave cryptic messages on the typewriters.

68. Get boxes of ["protection"] and randomly put them in peoples carts when they don't realize it!

69. [this is one I made up but never actually did. I worked at Walmart while on winter vacation for Christmas money, seasonal job, and kept the name badge and blue vest. I always thought it would be fun to go to my local Walmart in the vest, or put it on in the bathroom. Then when people ask you where something is, scream at them and tell them to mind their own business, etc. Of course they will complain to the manager who has never heard of you, by which time you will be gone. This would actually work if you had the get-up, since Walmart is so big that no one actually knows everyone else. No one would recognize you, but they wouldn't think twice since there are so many employees. I never got the courage to do it, plus it would be mean. But it's fun to think about!]

LOL, my mother actually made very good fruit cake. She never used that aweful "candied fruit" in it, she used lots of nuts, maraschino cherries and rum.

Just when I was starting to get into the holiday spirit, someone has to bah-humbug it. It's been a horrible holiday season here, but I threw my heart into decorating for my son. My mom came over and helped decorate. At the end of my driveway I have two brick pillars with lights on them. From those we hung huge wreaths. It looked beautiful....until someone stole one of them I live on a dead end road, only 5 houses are down here. Everyone on the road keeps to themselves, so I have no idea who stole it. It just breaks my heart that someone would have to steal something that had so much work put into it.

This is the first time he has done anything spiteful on purpose. I think it comes more from his acting out what he sees in school. As I have posted before, he has some really ummm....badly behaved children in his class. :( Hopefully this will change next year as he got invited to apply to an advanced academy. He meets all the criteria, so I just have to see if he gets in based on the lottery in February. :goodvibes

I used to have a shih tzu named "Baby". When my folks moved to Florida, they gave her to my grandmother for company (she lives alone) b/c Baby FREAKS OUT over thunderstorms, and FL has quite a few of those....she is about 12 years old now.

Anyway, Baby is a very good name for a cute little shih tzu, if you cannot think of one :) Not original, but a great name, because no matter how old they are, they are always babies :) :dog:

~Mia~

P.S. the day we got Baby makes for a great story, I will never forget it. My sis and I had been begging for a dog a long time (it had been about 6 years since our last one was hit by a car :()
I was 14 or 15 and had just taken my driver's ed class (the day we got to drive around for the first time). I came home, and my Mom was sitting in her chair. I was excitedly telling her about my day, and how well I drove, how scared I had been, etc. and the whole time she just had this odd smile on her face. While I was blabbering I wondered why she had that look on her face. She started glancing down into her lap and back up at me. I stopped mid-sentence when I saw a little black ball of fur that looked like a furby in her lap. I freaked out and totally forgot about my drivers ed when I saw our new puppy :)

Cute story! My turn to ramble! On my bus, their are these fourth graders who think they are all that, then their are the OTHER fourth graders.some are perfect, some are shy and then there is this one girl.Everybody makes fun of her so she sits with the kindergarden kids.I think it's just notright to make fun of her. But,if I sit with her, she cries and switches seats.I just feel so bad for her!And then, when she gets first in line, she always sits with the little kids more along the BIGGER her grade kids.I'm worried that when she gets older, she will let kids take advantage of her.Everyone says she is ugly.I think ugly is a storng word.We are all pretty in our own way!Right?Am I right?!?!?

My next story.
This is about my rabbit Andy.I had this pet rabbit Angie, she was a baby wild rabbit my cats brought home. She was not hurt but she was to young to be out on her own.My parents said I could keep her for a while until she grew up.I took the best care of her.She was sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!I know your confused.Your like, how is this about a rabbit named Angie if it said
it was about one named Andy?I will skip to when I let her go.Well, a month had past and it was time for her to go.I let her go outside and she followed me.I went inside and cried my head off.My mom and dad felt so bad that they decided I could have a real tamed rabbit. We went down to the pet store that afternoon and bought my new rabbit, Andy.He is very cute. And,he is all mine. It's winter now so his water gets frozen but other then that, he is fine and dandy.I love him very much as stuborn as he is.Got it?Good!

Ok. First off, that really stinks Tishke! I know you have done a lot to make your home warm and full of spirit in regards to all the negatives that have been occuring for your family lately. I am so sorry someone felt they needed the wreath more than you do. It hurts when your home has been violated like that. But just know they cannot, and WILL not take that spirit out of your heart :)

Second....my turn to tell the "How we got our Christmas puppy" story.

Ok, so 12 years ago our beloved family dog Boots had to be put to sleep (very sad for me since she was "my" dog...we grew up together...). After many months passed, my sis and I began talking about wanting another dog. Mom and dad always just brushed aside our thoughts. One Sunday morning while at the table eating breakfast (yes, we were THAT type of family. I thank my parents they always had us eat together like that), mom and dad were speaking in code...and whispering...and passing a note back and forth. Well being the NEEDFUL OF INFORMATION (read: sneaky) person I am, I went in the trash and found the piece of paper they had been passing. All that was written on it was DOG? and YES. Needless to say I was VERY excited! So I went back to my sis and told her to make sure she was good, and did all her chores so we could get the dog.
Fast forward to December 19 that same year. It was a cold evening and dad was coming home from work. I was playing my sister's gameboy in the den while my sis and grandparents were sitting there watching TV. All of a sudden my mother comes in and tells me and my sis to go out back and help my dad (who just got home from work) to help bring in firewood. Of course I am a teen and just sort of grumble and mope. My sis gets her coat on and heads out back. I hear a scream so I get up and look out the sliding glass doors to the back patio. What a surprise to see a cute little puppy wagging his tail and licking my sister's face!!! :dog2:
I will always remember that for the rest of my life! It's funny how I was all upset that I had to leave my warm inviting chair and game to help bring in firewood :rotfl: only to have a little furry brother waiting for me :)

We still have Nick. Yes, we named him after St. Nick (aka Santa). He doesn't move as fast as he used to. He moans from his doggie arthritis when he goes to lay down. He can't hear when we call him so we have to clap REALLY loud to get his attention. :dog: But we wags his tail and nuzzles me everytime I go to visit my parents like I haven't seen him in years. He still will toss his bone around like he was still a puppy. And he still chases after birds, rabbits, and cats like he was a spring chicken! We love you Nick! Happy Birthday!!!
Ok, end of sappy story! :teeth:

Ok I am heading into the last two weeks of the year. I work in Tax Compliance for a large company. This mean utter crazyiness here for year end straight through April. People do not assess risk and I have to slap their hands to get them straight.

So I get a gift at work today for the holidays. If you have ever seen the Staples commerical, they discuss the easy button. Well I received an easy button. It actually comes with instructions:

Step 1: Indentify a difficult situation.
Step 2: Press your Easy Button.
Step 3: Listen to the reassuring message. "That was easy."
Step 4: Smile and get on with your day.
Step 5: Repeat as necessary

Please note I have already used it several times this morning and now have suggested an enhancement to the product. They should have a counter. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Aren't you glad you can just skip my ramblings?

DD#2 is an alien. She's 16 months old.
- 3 days ago, she ate (another) purple crayon
- 2 days ago, she ate her Play-Doh (again)
- and yesterday, she took a banana, peel and all, and took a bite out of it.
You'd think that she'd have figured out that the peel wasn't the part she wanted. She thought otherwise, and took a few more bites out of it. Anyone see that movie, K-PAX, where Kevin Spacey plays an alien and enjoys eating entire bananas? My daughter is an alien.

Sibling love. DD#1 (3.5 yo) heard the story of the 3 pigs and the big bad wolf yesterday at preschool. Last night, bedtime was rough, because she was scared that the big bad wolf was going to come and get her. She asked to sleep in the same room as DD#2 (they're separated now, while DD#2 is sick and waking up a lot).

Awww, how cute!!! Because there is safety in numbers? Because together, they can keep the wolf at bay?

No. If the wolf comes, DD#1 was planning on sacrificing DD#2 to it. That's my girl!

Oh dear! That big bad wolf haunted my son for years after he heard that story. In fact, that dasterdly beast ruined his first viewing of Spectromagic. He approached our then young 3 year old and attempted to shake his hand. Instead it was the hand of terror reaching out to destroy him...

Eventually he got over the big bad wolf. To this day, we tease him every time we see Spectromagic.

LOL about the Big Bad Wolf...

Anyone seen the commercial for cough drops I believe with the three pigs and big bad wolf- my 18mos old son is not terrified of the tv- because of the wolf in that commercial- spent the other night warily watching the tv for the commercial to come back on.

But as an improvement- he did get over his fear of snoring santa we have and now we get santa snoring and Mrs. Claus humming Santa Claus is coming to town all the time.

But... last night he also decided to help himself to cake- and pulled half a red velvet cake off the table and onto the floor- icing side down- where older DS and DH proceded to let him eat it off the floor- the child actually ate 1/4 of the cake before I found out and stopped him- he was a red velvet monster by that time with the stuff covering him litterally head to toe. DH and DS thought it was funny.

I just wanted to make sure that she had a good Christmas (read: My stepdad picks out the weirdest gifts that only he "gets") and in 5 hours I only hit 3 places. LOL

I also got a weird happy holiday card from my school. What makes them think that I want to be wished happy holidays from them?! They just want me to have a happy holiday so I will continue to give them my money. The best part was that Norton sorted it into my spam folder :rotfl:

****SIGH**** ...boys and their toys....
So some of you may have heard of this little game system known as Xbox 360. That has been the only thing my DH has wanted for over a year. He pre-ordered this "upgraded" version of his box back in April (I think). He has been talking non-stop about it and playing it and blah blah blah until the Tuesday before Thanksgiving when it was released.

That Tuesday has come and gone. He loves it. He plays it. And all of a sudden he hates it. He doesn't play it!! ARGH!!! What gives?!? He hardly plays the thing. This beautiful $400 + machine (yes I say beautiful because I happen to like the white-gray sleek design) has been collecting MAJOR dust. Now, what you need to understand is his undying "dream" of becoming a game designer. Or at least his fantasy world of being paid to play. He was ALWAYS on his xbox before the 360. Always xbox and always Halo2.

And I never thought I would be so upset over him NOT playing. Finally my prayers have been answered by the heavens...and I am upset.

Also, I need to tell you he did very well in buying this machine. He traded in over $250 in old DVDs and CDs he had lying around the house. So it isn't that I am upset at him not getting enough bang for his buck.

I am hoping he is just waiting for other games to come out. He really loves playing against players on his friends list and there aren't many games out now where that is possible. Perfect Dark is the only one that comes to mind (and he is tired of playing as a girl :rotfl: ).

So there...vent over...find me a couch so I can have my head examined now. :earseek:

The mind of a toddler baffles me...

We put up our tree, finally. It's artificial. Dh wrapped some presents and put them under the tree. Our toddler thought the bows were pretty, so yesterday while I was in VMK chatting, he took off all the bows from the presents. Later I turned around, and he had them lined up by color. (Luckily he hasn't learned that the paper comes off the present.)

Came across a weird web site: Lost in translation (http://www.tashian.com/multibabel/)

It takes text, and then translates it to another language, back to English, then into a different language, back to English -- for a total of 10 rounds, through 5 languages.

So of course, I had to try it out, with the 2 most important things to be able to say on VMK.

Original English Text:
Are you taken?
Translated to French:

Translated back to English:

Translated to German:

Translated to Portuguese:

Translated to Spanish:

Original English Text:

So today we are out at the mall (I must have still been feeling the effects of the Parrot Bay to have ventured out) and popped into a video game store to check on some Nintendo DS games. While in there, DS6 starts shouting "There he is mom!" I asked who, and he said "It's the Greeker". I'm thinking the Greeker? What is that? There are no Toga wrapped people in here. No, it turns out that the Greeker is "that scary guy in black with the big sword knife that takes you when you die". Ah yes, the Greeker! How could I have forgotten?! TOGA TOGA :rotfl:

Ok, so I shared this with a few people -- but I'm just so tickled with the purchase that I have to share it some more :)

Check out my new art:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=12946&sort=2&cat=500&page=1

For those of you who have been on a Disney Cruise, you'll recognise it. For those who haven't: it's the art that used to hang above the bed in the cabin.
When they refurbished the ship some of the art was replaced :) I happened to be lucky enough to find this piece and buy it.

Oh you lucky girl! I'm green with envy. The cruise is the best and you've got a piece of it!!

for the next trip to WDW or Disneyland, here is a fun little diversion to keep your mind on The Magic Kingdom:

The Magic Kingdom Game.

http://www.amnestyroad.com/disney/box.jpg

This was a Christmas present I received, and it is pretty well done for a little board game. I am told that Santa picked my copy up at Toys R Us, so I can't imagine this is rare. Anyway, it has some very detailed parts:

http://www.amnestyroad.com/disney/SBCastle.jpg
http://www.amnestyroad.com/disney/Ttown.jpg
http://www.amnestyroad.com/disney/HauntedM.jpg

and the board is rather detailed, too:

If you want to see more pictures of the game, click on the links below. And there you have it, a game for add-ducks who need it all.

Wow, surprisingly detailed and very pretty.

Out of curiosity, what is the object of the game? Since it's set in the Magic Kingdom, I can think of a few:

- sprint through the park, collecting FastPasses and beating the lines
- sitting on the park benches and watching the above people with amusement
- gorging on Mickeybars, Strawberry swirls, and Dole Whips (OK, this is just me)
- finding and helping your kids use each and every restroom in the entire park
- jockeying for position along parade routes
- asking the other players "Are u taken?"

Seriously though, it looks like a beautifully designed game. Good for what ages? I think DD#2 would like to eat Space Mountain, though -- she is eyeing it with great interest.

Edited to add: here's a link to the game at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001GDOZG/103-7257326-1039028?v=glance)

Okay, to answer in reverse:

For some reason, they do give you a completely blank player piece, so you can draw yourself in there sans younguns. Or you can draw yourself in there with Be and me for hours of zany green fun.

The object of the game is pretty simple: The game has a set of cards, and each card has a different Magic Kingdom ride. The backs of the cards are color-coded (sorry, NJ Mike) to indicate their land of residence (Fantasyland is pink, Tomorrowland is purple, and so forth). Each player at the beginning of the game picks a card from each color stack and must visit those rides and exit the park before his or her opponents visit their five rides and exit the park. With two players, it goes by pretty quickly, but with more players it is a bit more crazy. I think we are going to try a variation where the object is to visit as many of the rides as possible and collect the ride card from each one you visit (one per customer, sorry), and at the end of the game, you count up cards and see who visited the most. This version of the game will come with its own mini version of Sehlinger's Unofficial Guide for maximum efficiency.

Oh, and just for the record, Main Street in this game does not have a VMK location... yet. In fact, the game has Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle (so I guess VMK is in Tomorrowland over there?), but it still has The Country Bear Jamboree, Carousel of Progress, Tomorrowland Transit Authority, and Goofy's Barnstormer (that's not at Disneyland, is it?)... I did notice that the game does not have the Alice in Wonderland ride, nor a bunch of pushy AP holders who swarm City Hall at the command of Al Lutz to complain about the latest parade. Nonetheless, it is a cute, fun game.

Funny thing happened to me yesterday at Epcot. My diaper bag was out of diapers, so I left dh and toddler in the baby care center while I went out to the stroller to get diapers. As I was making my way back inside, a CM asked me where she should go with lost parents. (They were right there with her.) Where the front desk is to send the parents. (I didn't want to upset the parents) Since she obviously thought I was a manager, I escorted them into the baby care center. I told them there is no front desk there, but another CM would be with her shortly. I pointed to the house phone if she needed it. Then I proceeded to take the diaper to the changing table.

My turn to respond? I actually lost track of what I'm supposed to be repsonding to. But here goes... I believe this is where we stand:

1) Hagen claims to be non-contagious, wholesome and savory
2) Alyce wants to be a boy
3) Peoplemover is being encouraged to "leave her hat on"

A quick search on lyrics has revealed that:
1) you can sing almost the ENTIRE lyrics to "You can leave your hat on" on VMK
and further, I predict:
2) doing so will likely result in the quickest permanent ban on record ;)

Given this analysis, I think I will stay in the audience of the new and improved "special edition" of the Disney Magic Kingdom board game...

Should make for a GREAT show...

Ever feel like you are channeling someone else? I woke up, tired, cranky because DS started back at school and I had to take him :rotfl: and planning on giving myself a break today. Woot, wanna come clean my place too? I have a ton of chores to do now that I've reluctantly come back from WDW...

I don't pay well, but I do have a few furry critters to help you with the chores ;)

I'm running out of cleaning steam....I have the living room done, the office done and am going to hit the foyer next, I think. Anything but the kitchen. I swear it gets dirty overnight. I go to sleep and it is clean and wakeup to a mess. Maybe the pups name of Gizmo isn't a coincidence and he really is a Gremlin? :confused3

I know it's been said a million times, but here goes 1 million and 1:
I really wish VMK opened before 10am. Here I am with lots of time on my hands. Neither child woke up until now. I could have spent the last 3 hours in VMK.

LOL
I was thinking the same thing this morning. My littlest gets up REALLY early and on the weekends we have to wait for everyone else to get up. He loves to 'help me' by moving the mouse and clicking. (he would probably do better than me moving aroundon in the Haunted Mansion game!)

AND I think the Gremlin that messes up the kitchen while you sleep is the same I that appears to like to steal ONE of each of my kids socks.

Mine did this year; I bought quite a bit of new ornaments. I love Christmas and Christmas decorations.

And in addition to the 7-foot live tree in the living room and the 3-foot "Santa Claus" tree in the computer alcove, we added 2 new 3-foot trees, and a tiny 1-foot silver tensile tree with 1950s rocket and robot ornaments for my husband library.

I go to Dunkin Donuts everyday to get my Extra Large Hot Tea with Cream and Sugar. It is the same DD and the same people I see everyday.

Why is it that out of the four days during the week I visit them half of the visits my order is messed up? (Not Extra Large or No Sugar or No Cream or maybe even a coffee.) Coffee and Extra Large are now easy to catch - the other two are not. Yes, I know why bother going there - but it is on the way to the office. :)

It is almost like a way to inform me of how my day is expected to be. Thanks for listening.

Also, the sock gremlin came to visit. I have a mountain of socks that have no pairs - do you think he takes socks from house to house just to mess with us? :)

DD scares me. First, I must admit to being a coffee snob. I spent my teenage years in Seattle and my Starbucks addiction began at 12 :guilty: My parents were sure I would hate coffee, instead, I loved it! Later, I even worked on the management team at a Starbucks LOL.

Flash back to this past June....we planned on hitting Starbucks on our way out of town for fuel for the road. We actually got up and out of the house early, before Starbucks was even open. We decide to just go to DD. I decided it couldn't be THAT bad, right? I ordered a plain, non-fat latte. How hard is that? No sugar, nothing weird, just non-fat. What I got was a hot chocolate with tons of whipped cream  (DH wound up drinking it and saying it was the most awful hot chocolate he'd ever had) I tried to drink DH's Frappucino like thing, but it too was pretty bad. We don't have a DD around my house now, not sure if there's even one here at all....but word to the wise...Krispy Kreme gets it wrong just as much. Must be a donut shop thing ;)

I heard recently that most of our values are influenced by the media more than any other outlet. I doubted that until this week. My toddler has been going around the house shouting, "die...die". Where did he get this? From tv Mike on starwarskid's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

It use to be books. A small child was influenced more by books then by what happened around him, which was why parents were told to only buy "good" books for the small fry.

My own childhood life wasn't very good and books were my escape for many years.

My DS got a few choice phrases from Spongebob. Seems that if Spongebob does it, it must be okay  Now instead of Spongebob it is more reading. He has to earn TV time. Every minute of reading gets him a minute of TV. Of course, now that DH isn't working late so much anymore, we'll see just how long that lasts.

On VMK, have you ever thought, wow, these people must be speaking a different language? And what's with the strange spelling? How can I ever learn to fit in, to sound like the natives?

I've learned the secret, and here it is (http://ssshotaru.homestead.com/files/aolertranslator.html).

For example, here's the above, sent through the translator:
ON VMK HAEV U 3V3R THOUGHT WOW TH3SE PEOPLE MUST B SPAAKNG A DIFERANT LANGUAEG?!?!!! OMG LOL AND WUT WIT TEH STRANG3 SPALNG????!!!?! HOW CAN I EVER LEARN 2 FIT IN 2 SOUND LIEK TEH NATIEVS

I also came across a (preliminary) pirate translator (http://www.talklikeapirateday.com/translate/index.php), which yielded:
Aye, on Vmk, have you e'er thought, wow, these people must be speakin' a diffarnt language? And what's with the strange spellin'? How can Me e'er learn t' fit in, t' sound like the nati'es?

I''e learned the secret, and har it is. Ye'll ne'er get me buried booty!

I really think I need to get a high speed internet connection back. I haven't been on VMK for about a week...and I'm almost suffering withdrawals. And the fact that our family's computers are pretty much going crazy at the moment isn't helping me. Add the fact that half of the music that I had ripped into my computer was corrupted by ID3 editing software...right now I'm singing along to my A Chorus Line cast recording.

I've been missing all of ya'll on VMK lately. My best friends this week have been my copy of The Great Gatsby, my calculus book, my history book.

They're made by Scott. At my WalMart they were right above the plain white version of Scott paper towels. I have to admit that I am one of those white paper towel people, though. (unless impulse buying) I like the white ones because they go with everything, they're cheaper, and they seem to work better with cleaning sprays. :confused3 Of course, I could just be too old and lame for the cool paper towels ;)
