No more singing of my song about him. *sad*

Oh Be, my make over turned out lovely! seven of my toenails are now painted green as well as the toes surrounding them. Mental note to self, do not wear sandals to work today. LOL My face looked as if I was baking in the sun for about 3 days straight and it took me numerous scrubs to get it all off. :earseek: They were quite pleased with themselves though. They are already planning on going to Hollywood to be make up girls to the stars. Unless someone is planning on making a movie about Lobster Girl I don't think they will get a job. LOL And absolutely NO PICS! I might want to run for president one day. :rotfl2:

Here's a ramble. Why does it take so long for the hot water to move up the pipes and come out of the shower head? And why am I always running late Monday mornings and jump in the shower without checking the water first? Brrrrrrrrr! Im awake now :cold:

JeanJoe

LOL, I sure know how that is... Our master bath is on the 3rd floor, with the hot water heater in the basement. In the winters it can make for a chilly start...

But your ramble reminded me of my high school dorms. We would wait till an unsuspecting person was in the shower, and then 6 of us would flush every toilet in the bathroom simultaneously. Yep -- instant scalding hot water, yells echoing through the dorm, followed by threats of violent retribution.

I still have the ingrained reflex to jump out from under the shower if I think I hear the beginnings of a flush.

I heard this early this morning as well, and was shocked! I didn't even know he had been sick! What a great man, and a great life he led.

On another note, I was disappointed that the shuttle didn't land. DH works for NASA, so we have been following it closely. Guess I have to get up early tomorrow again!

Be, it really seems like you are describing "jail time" behavior :rotfl: :teeth: After reading that I have scenes of Toy Soldiers (the movie- minus the hostage fiasco) and Hearts In Atlantis (the book- only the chapters with the boys school and playing Hearts) running through my head. That's funny, "jail time" behavior pretty accurately describes some of the experiences there. I don't think a description of hazing would be very "magical" for these Dis boards ;)

Yes! I look JUST like Wil Wheaton!!! Except with lots less money. And not cute. And without all the girls chasing him. And green. But JUST like him, otherwise!

=====

So, here I was, all set to share with you all how there's nothing worse than drinking a cup of the last 2 inches of coffee at the bottom of the pot, that had been sitting there on the warming thing for the past 4 hours. It pours out black, and this horrible stench of burned, carbonized sludge wafts through the air.

What's worse, though is how you feel after having drunk half of it, and it is trying to burn its way out of your stomach.

Then, finally, bringing it along during surgical rounds, having a clumsy surgeon (those are 2 words that should never be adjacent to one another) knock the whole thing over in the NICU.

I tried to towel down the area (missing the plan for the next couple of patients; hopefully they can take care of themselves), but I think the "coffee" is still eating its way through the waxed floor... It will probably drip through into the cardiac unit downstairs in a few minutes.

=====

There you have it: proof that a little bit of sleep is worse than no sleep at all.

{{{Mickeysfriend}}} My little girl starts Kindergarten in 20 days. She's gone to preschool for two years but thinking of her getting on the bus and someone driving away with her kills me. She's my baby! Though I found that 1st grade is much worse for me. I cried and cried for days when my oldest (iluvsplash) went to 1st grade. She was gone all day without me to take care of her. In our school district K is still only 1/2 day though most schools in our area are full day now. It would be more convenient for me as far as babysitting while Im at work if it was full day but she still takes naps in the afternoon so its a good thing I think. I'm so not looking forward to next year when my baby will be a big girl and will be gone all day :-( But on the bright side...vmk all day....and serious mommy time. LOL

Kindegarten is hard, Pre-K was the worst for me since it is all day. I just couldn't imagine sending him off to the care of strangers! This year I was very scared since all his friends had been put into other classes and the teacher was new....so far so good, but I still sit there at work and wonder what he's doing. Did he eat his sandwich first at lunch, or his snack....did someone tie his shoes when they came untied....Did I put his rain jacket in his backpack??? The mommy-ness never ends :rolleyes1

So, can anyone explain to me how a 12 month old baby can overpower her dad during a diaper change?

I mean, I out-mass her by at least 7 times, and yet, she just about wins every wrestling match we have. Then again, she frequently commits fouls by going for the dirty diaper, but there have been times when I've been trying to pin her with one arm, holding down her hips with another elbow, while trying desperately to shove the diaper out of the reach of her flailing legs with whatever remaining body part I have left. Finally, I end up needing to gang up on her and call in mom.

How do toddlers do it?

I think I need a diaper changing table with built-in four-point restraints.

I used to use gasoline until my kid started smoking. Sandpaper is the best thing for duct tape, Joe.

So tonight, my little beast took it to the next level, probably in retaliation for the duct tape. The wrestling match was taken to a new venue -- the bath tub. Distracting me by trying to drown, she positioned herself perfectly to kick a small tidal wave out of the tub and onto me.

Churro, do you want to trade? Astryd already offered hers, but wouldn't take mine in exchange.

At daycare drop-off today, told DD3yo, "Daddy will be on-call tonight and won't be able to come home until tomorrow. I'll miss you very, very much."

Joe, I'd be willing to trade.... We have no kids to offer, but I could offer you three dogs and a cat! I think that's a fair trade.... but to be honest, I should probably give you all the facts to consider:

1. The cat thinks she is a dog and whatever dog it is, it is bigger than our dogs (golden retreivers). She also apparently has a hair deficiency because she will come up to you and attack your hair. And forget it if you just brushed your teeth, she wants to crawl in your mouth! Oh yeah and she needs to have her bowls full at all times (and crumbs do not count as food). You must also like coke and coffee because she does too.

2. Sandy-The homeless dog that showed up at the door of the house that says "SUCKER" written in invisible dog writing. He is very well behaved and will let you know if he needs to go out by slamming his nose into the door. He has done it so much that he has a crease on his nose. He also is afraid of tile floors, so you'd have to get rid of any tile floors. He will also let you know when it is dinner time by a series of barks and he will let you know when it has gotten dark also by a series of barks.

3. Buddy-He was going to be the best dog until some kids fired a bottle rocket at him. (I don't know if they did it on purpose or not, but it scared me too as I was home at the time and there was an explosion near the back door.) Buddy has a huge fear of fireworks...understandable. But he has also determined that fireworks sound like thunder and what comes with thunder? Rain. So now he is scared of all three. Scared actually doesn't even cover it...he has performed "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Starring Buddy" several times! The latest was removing all sheetrock and insulation from half a wall in the mud room.

4. Daisy-She is the oldest of the dogs, but probably the one with the least quirks since her biggest one is that she sometimes thinks she is a tiny little puppy.

Since I'm sure you'll agree it is a fair trade, let me know when and where you would like to make the handoff! ;)

I'll trade you, Be. I've been up off and on since 1AM with DS6 and his allergies. He was cranky because his stuffy nose meant he couldn't suck his fingers at night (a habit we are trying like crazy to break) because that meant he couldn't breathe out of his mouth. So, he wound up climbing in our bed, and DH wound up giving up and moving to DS room. It was the most least fun night I've had in a long time  After all that, I take him to school this morning (after dosing him with some allergy medicine and wrestling him down to give him the saline drops) and as I leave the classroom he starts telling his teacher I kept HIM up all night!! :confused3 I give up....I'm running away to join the circus....

WARNING: The following rant contains situations that had actually occured at work, and writing about them on the Internet is considered hazardous to my continued employment with my company. If you, or someone you know work in Williamsburg by the East River, DO NOT READ!

You have been warned.

So my day started off at 5:00 AM ET, but I didn't get out of bed until 5:30, and I had to be out the door at 6:00. Fortunately, I had enough time to wash, dress, and check my messages. Unfortunately, I did not have time for my morning tea, so I bought myself a Dunkin Donuts medium hazelnut coffee. That was my first mistake.

During the day, I had my regular two cups of coffee out of the same Dunkin Donuts cup, which means I had a little bit more caffine than I'm used to. Match that with a co-worker who insisted that I work fast and don't speak, and you've got yourself a grumpy Genie.

Fortunately that mood lasted long enough until the job was finished, and we had some downtime which was used to transport reports and such between departments. I'm safe, right? Not exactly.

Remember my date from last week? Well, it turned out to be just two individuals from work who just wanted to meet for dinner and spend time with each other before she went to another state for some time. I thought it meant something for me. And apparently, so did other people, as they pushed me into asking her out for another date, which she turned down for in favor of meeting her other friends. I was hurt. That's when someone told me that just because I went out with a girl does not mean that it's love. The people who pushed me into asking her out again thought otherwise, and put that idea into my head, which caused me to fall flat on my face and kill myself out of embarrasment. She felt that I was upset at something, and I'm not sure if it was because of her rejection, but once I explained that someone was behind me asking her out, I think she understood.

And to put more disgrace upon my person, there's this woman at work who's like a walking sexual harrasment charge just waiting to happen. She literally controls weak-minded men like myself with her... er.. um, how shall I put this. her... needs? (I think you all know what I'm talking about.) That put me over the edge, and if my lady boss was present during this whole fiasco, she would have had both my arms and legs broken so the only way I could play the drums is to shove drumsticks up my nose.

Then I had an ice cream, bought some comic books, and then everything was all right again.

Are there any Princesses in the NYC area who are single, unattached, and within +/-3 years of my own age?

Be - I thought I would never write this, but my sister (who is nearly 21) acts just like your youngest daughter. She is driving me insane! I truly love my sister and we do get along, but she has her boyfriend over and I want to poke my eyes out as soon as possible! Oh, the baby talk! Oh, the kisses! Oh, the hugs! AH! I think I'm going to hurl! Much less the fact that I was attempting to take a nap and I could hear this conversation through my bedroom door: "Oh, you are the best!" "No, you are the best!" "I love you more!" "No, I love you more!" Needless to say, I lasted as long as possible before jumping out of bed and screaming that she needed to knock it off! ARGH! Can you tell I'm just a little annoyed? Usually, I'm a very nice person, but I cannot under any circumstance understand baby talk between two grown adults. It drives me mad! Tishke - I'm heading to the circus with you...leave room in the car for me!

How do you all feel about a 26 yr old wearing pigtails? Do you feel it is a faux pa???

I know I love to wear them but sometimes (as I get older) I think: Maybe it is time to hang up the pigtails look. You are getting older and should look more mature.

I really heart wearing my pigtails. They make me happy!

When is enough, really enough???

Just to let you know here at the office of the Architect and design firm I have seen 30 somethings where pig tails. Though they use the excuse there kids have them and it is a mommy daughter thing. Sure. So I think you are fine to waer your hair what ever way you want. But then you are the one that casually pointed out that Littlebelle was wearing red snowboots with her out fit.

Well, if you like wearing them, why stop? You're still young, and I have a feeling that you don't look your age. Has anyone said anything about your pigtails? Do what makes you happy, at the end of the day, the only person who's opinion matters is yours (and maybe your DH's since DH's never keep opinions to themselves :rotfl: )

So I woke up this morning turned on the TV looked at what tivo recorded and there were 8, yes 8 episodes of Full House recorded. :scared1: Someone help me. :guilty: :guilty:

Early Steve is way better than Joe. We like Full House! Jessie was a hottie in his time. Jennie has learned how to use the remote now so you never know what show you will be watching now. All those Japanese action boy shows are becoming the norm. Remember Guts and the Nick game show with the temple? They show reruns on one the upper digital Nick channels. Jennie LOVES those shows. Its funny to think all those kids are now adults.

Oh, definitely!!!

These are the same things as, for example "Strawberry Swirl," right? I didn't learn about these until our trip to WDW in March this year, and then promptly had to go to all the different booths in the different lands to try them all.

Strawberry swirl is my favorite. I even created a VMK character named "Swirl" so I could say it. Then the character named Strawberry had to go out and ruin it by becoming CL_Strawberry. How dare she?!? It's just not the same, saying "I'll have a CL_Strawberry Swirl, please" in VMK. :(

Oh, I'll take that topic! Football is big in my house! My dad's always yelling at the tv! LOL!

Also, my sister is the captain of the NIU Color Guard...ya know the flag people with the band that supports the team.

We go to all the NIU football games! Last year we went to the bowl game, too, in San Jose! That was the best game ever!

This year NIU is playing Michigan! (Too bad I can't go...those people don't want to give out tickets to the opposing team! LOL!) They are playing Northwestern, too!

See...we love football!

Ah, forgot to mention that we have the typical Bears/Packers debate every year in my family.

My dad's family is from Chicago (Bears, of course!)
My mom's family is from Wisconsin (Packers, of course!)

We love to call each other during football season and make fun of each other. It sounds quite mean, but it's actually pretty funny!

The best games are when both sides of the family get together. I come from a large family - I'm the first born of 20 grandchildren - so when you get 50 people yelling at the tv it's quite a sight! LOL!

So what do you do at 1 in the morning when DH and dog are passed out asleep, and you just can't seem to get in the same slumber????

This does not always happen...but when it does I hate it!

I think it might have something to do with the wierd dreams I keep having lately! Two nights ago I had a dream that I was on stage (in a real theater mind you!) for Saturday Night Live :) It was awesome! :goodvibes Good times, good times...

Last night...with all the storms we were having...I dreamed that there were tons of tornandoes (my 2nd tornado dream in 1 week) that kept attacking. Thats right, they had a mind of their own! And in one of the tornadoes...in the clouds that were swirling around...I saw Jesus' face! Very unreal!

You would set that up in the shipping terms. Also, you might want to use vague words when describing kids. For example, don't say "little terrors," but do say "remarkable conduct;" after all, you could easily remark on their conduct all day long, just not with positive remarks. Also, don't say "they turn my hair grey," say instead "they remind me of my youth," since you used to look younger before they showed up. And "they've destroyed my home" is a bit harsh... try this: "they bring light into the home" since they knocked down that wall after putting your car into gear while you were unloading groceries. It's the subtle language that makes the purchase attractive and in no way false advertisement... lawyers understand.

OK, update on DD13mo, who despite a slow start at reaching her milestones (OK, she was off the charts delayed for rolling over, and I have the charts...) is now catching up! 2 nights ago, she took her first steps!

But JUST tonight, she did ALL of the following things. I'm checking in my manuals to see where they fall under the developmental milestones:

- from sitting on couch, pulled to stand on back of couch, and proceeded to try to climb over back of couch to face plant into hardwood floor on other side

- climbed step stool to reach stove, turned burner to high, and proceeded to try to climb onto stove into raging flames

- pulled open oven and tried to climb in (I think this one doesn't count, because the broiler wasn't on)

- crawled over to dining table, pulled to stand on chair, then reached onto table for sharp cutting knife, brandishing it wildly in the air

Woohoo! Daddy's little girl is growing into a homicidal, suicidal maniac!

I don't think even hagen could work his magic on this little Demon Beast.

Edited to add: I just realized that I think I'm obligated to report myself to the Child Protection Team and Dept of Social Services. Bummer. I *thought* we had child-proofed this house.

Thank you for that. That minute, like so many others, could have been used to enrich my brain through word power or by eating some sort of new, VMK-free bran cereal that tastes like somebody dumped a pencil sharpener in my bowl. It's long, vacuous minutes like that one which make me wonder what the internet really is for, and why you didn't take the opportunity to lease the vacant space out to banner advertisements? A wasted opportunity, you know... "make money while you hit the return key..." Although it was a break from work, so thank you.

- crawled over to dining table, pulled to stand on chair, then reached onto table for sharp cutting knife, brandishing it wildly in the air
...
I don't think even hagen could work his magic on this little Demon Beast.

Your ebay ad should read thusly:

Near-new 13 month old daughter for sale:

- extraordinary motor skills and independence coupled with fascination for gravity and physics

- strong interest in culinary skills, in both both baking and sauté forms

- adventurous and vivid imagination, showing skills of sharp insight into the ways of the world

... and then you just find a picture, Photoshop the deadly knives out, and name a price (of which I get 7%).

You're welcome,

hagen

I am so upset.

My youngest son has had a lot of problems growing up. At one point at age one they suspected Autism. It wasn't that though. He has had speech therapy, OT, special ed, etc. since age one. He has been released from all except speech therapy, which he still really needs. He also has a auditory processing delay and sensory issues. He is able to attend regular school though, and is smart in all other areas.

Anyways, I get a phone call awhile ago. It's the speech therapist from the school. My son may not meet the minimum standards for speech therapy, he may be below them. That means he can't be put into speech. We live on an Army base in the middle of no where. The next closest town is almost 40 miles away and they wouldnt' have services for him also. If they can't meet his needs, then they have to move us. The Army can not station us anywhere that his IEP can't be met. He is being retested.

I don't understand the reasoning though. If he is below standards, he needs speech even more. It would be like saying "you 4th grader can't read at the 4th grade level, so we can't teach him reading".

I'm just frustrated!!

Oh, I so feel for you! My friend is a special needs teacher and she sometimes gets frustrated with the IEP and tests for her kids. She and I have talked about the system and how sometimes it does not work. She gets so upset when she sees kids that need her help being sent to mainstream classes or kids that don't need her help being sent to her. I don't know if there is any way to fix it... I hope you'll be able to reach a solution without major headaches!

Thinking good thoughts for you! :goodvibes

If they retest him and find that they can't help him, then the Army will have to relocate us because this base is not meeting the needs of his IEP and he is in what's called the EFMP program to ensure his needs are met.

This isn't just a slight speech problem. You can understand him, but it's something he has to have corrected.

OK, this morning I barely was able to get out of bed...

We had some super nasty storms this week and even a few tornado warnings for the area. The storms last night happened from 12am-3amish and knocked my neighbor's tree down and it blocked the road! I'm just glad it didn't take out any power lines.

Totally freaked me out...

OK, I think my DD3yo has invented my all-time favorite make believe game. It's called "Sleeping Baby," and I got to play it while post-call today.

I got to be "Sleeping Baby." Apparently, my job was to lie on the couch and sleep, and DD3yo spent about 20 minutes covering me with a blanket, getting me a stuffed animal, giving me a hug and a kiss, and then going off to prepare my lunch for tomorrow.

Later on, I was supposed to be "mommy," but I told her I was pretty tired, so I got to be "Sleeping Baby" again.

Oh yeah! I like this game. I'll be sleeping baby any day.

Reminds me of a game my cousin and I play at family gatherings (we are both in our 30s, mind you). Our mothers (they are sisters) try to get us to play board games after we eat, and my cousin and I tell them that the only game we will play is the Nappy Game. And we do...and we win, too!

Perhaps marypops can confirm, but in England, isn't a Nappy a diaper?

So, how are those depends? ;)

So today was one of the best days ever!

I started back to work...three days of inservice and then the kiddies come. Work is fun because as I said before I work with my two best friends. We tried to be good all day! :)

I was told I looked beautiful, cute, great, and well rested...I think anyone who has a 8 week vacation would look good as well! LOL!

I was nominated to be our district team leader meaning I would plan the agenda and run the meetings all year for our grade level.

And I found a book at the library that had been reported on my card as missing. Did not having to pay for the book that was already there!

I spent quite a while looking online to see if Depends puts their commercials online, so I could see this "old lady butt shot" Shorts has been talking about. Not that I'm into that sort of thing, but Mondays require a laugh like that don't they? The only thing I found was this: a spoof (http://www.animespoof.com/depends.html) done by some people who seem to spend a lot of time making movies. ;) Oh well, I might as well watch the "Oops, I Crapped in my Pants" commerical again. It's much better than theirs...

Okay, here a totally random occurence from over the weekend. So, we went down to Savannah to look at the town and some neighborhoods for our potential move (we decided to do it) and went out on one of my mom and step-dad's boats. They had just gotten the boat worked on by the mechanic at the marina, so we set out for a one hour tour around Wassau Sound. We're cruising along when we see some people all camped out on the beach of a little island. We drop anchor like everyone else and prepare to swim over. The depth finder said we were in about 50 feet of water, so we lower the ladder and my mom splashes down into KNEE DEEP water! :confused3 Turns out the mechanic hadn't actually set up the depth finder like he had said he had done  No big deal, but in less than ten minutes the tide had gone out and the boat was beached.....We were stranded on a deserted island (other than a few other boaters) for 6 hours while we waited for the tide to come back in. We all got as baked as you can get (other than my son who I had the good sense to slather up in sunscreen every 20 minutes.) We had on SPF 30, but the salt water just kills the effectiveness. So, the tide comes back in and we are cheering like crazy people :cheer2: We are all pushing the boat back into the water and climb on ready for a big dinner....we had tons of drinks, but since we had planned a one hour trip, we hadn't taken food. (Good thing we all ate a huge late breakfast before we went out) So we're all in the boat, and the motor won't turn over :earseek: At this point it is almost 7:00 at night and we're getting really irritated. It's a brand new motor, the boat had just been worked on and we were told it runs like a dream....more like a nightmare! We're all singing the theme song to Gilligan's Island at this point. We put in a call to the Coast Guard only to be told that they don't really rescue people anymore, they are too short staffed :confused3 (I would have taken David Hasselhoff from BayWatch at this point). They called us a tow boat and we finally got back to land around 10:30. Grabbed some sandwiches and we wound up staying an extra night. I had to call work and say "Sorry, I'm not going to be there because we got stuck on a deserted island..." My boss started to give me trouble, and I am sure I will really here it when I give notice today. Oh well.....so how was everyone else's weekend?!

Thanks Churro! I tried the Dole Whip recipe you sent to me. Not willing to risk my own health, I decided to feed them to the guinea pigs (aka DD'#1 and DD#2). After a first taste, we have DD#1. I think she liked it:
http://www.jeanjoe.com/images/dolewhip.jpg

It was a big day for DD#2. Not only did she learn to walk today, she also had her first EVER ice cream, thanks to Churro! Pictures did not come out, but she did keep opening her mouth for more.

In case anyone was looking for the recipe, I hope Churro doesn't mind if I share, here's the Dole Whip recipe (tastes just like the real thing!):
Hey I have your recipe for the pineapple ice cream everyone loves at Disneyland aka Dole Whip!

1 quart of pinapple juice(Dole of course)
1tsp Vanilla
3C whipping cream (liquid)
3C Sugar

milk also

mix the pinapple juice and sugar together making sure the sugar is dissolved.Next add the vanilla and cream.Pour this mixture into the ice cream container.Add milk to finish filling to the fill line (2 quarts). (hope that makes sense) Then just finish as you would normally following ice cream maker instructions. You can eat right away or freeze for a firmer ice cream.

Hope everyone enjoys it! I like it. It is one of the number one sellers at DLR.Right by the Tiki Room. Let me know if it is not clear enough.

So who wants to hear about my weekend?...No one? Oh well you have to hear about it anyways! Friday my DH wakes up and has to work and finds that his wetsuits were all missing!(3 of them) Now for those of you who don't know that is about a thousand dollars worth or more. He was so upset it ruined his whole day. He did call the police and they sent him an incident report to his work. He notified all the surf and scuba shops in town and was going to call any pawn shops on monday. My DD 2nd birthday was also that day and we had a huge pool party and everything went really well. Sunday went by without any news on the suits.Monday was a different story...My best friends' father called my husband Monday morning and said he overheard someone in the alley behind his house trying to sell some wetsuits!!It's a Small World! So my DH jumps in his truck and drives there and my friends dad shows him the house the guy went into.So my DH knocks on the door and says"I hear you have some wetsuits for sale"the guy tells him yes and they go down the street to look at them. Sure enough they are his!! So he says he will be back with the money in an hour...but the guy says"You look honest , you can take them now and just bring back the money later" LOL ya right. So my DH takes the suits drives one block and calls the police. They show up and he tells them where they can find the house and gives the description of the guy. They say that there has been a string of robberies in the neighborhood and will definetly check this guy and his house out. WOOT! Crime doesn't pay and now my DH can go surfing again.
Just thought I would share this story with you, cause it had a happy ending! :cheer2:

At the orientation get-together thing, I was my usual shy and anti-social self, so I hid for a bit and just took some pictures, and thought I'd share some of the beautiful scenery (http://www.jeanjoe.com/images/aspen/aspen.html), in case you were bored. This will just be a quick post focusing on VMK but I do plan on doing something much longer on the trip report board.

We arrived in DW on 8-11-05 around 9pm and by 10:30pm we were in our room with our luggage. The next day, Friday, we went to MK - not very crowded. I picked up our quests at VMK Central. Later that day we handed in our completed quests at VMK Central and were then sent to City Hall to schedule our tour. We scheduled our tour for the very next day but unfortunately didn’t make it because of a slight problem we had with our Luau tickets.

I called the operator and was able to get someone in City Hall to reschedule our tour. At first they didn’t want to do it over the phone. The operator said that I had to schedule the tour in person at City Hall but I nicely explained that I had done that before and I just wanted to reschedule. Luckily they agreed.

The Tour
It was really very good. We got to VMK Central at 3:45pm the tour was at 4:30pm. My mom made her character and we walked around until it was time. There were 11 people on the tour: my family-3 adults; a mother and her teenage son; a man, his wife and a toddler; a young woman and two teenagers from California. A couple of times our tour guide pulled out a flip book and told us stuff about VMK. Later, I would realize that she was giving us the answers for some of the questions that she would ask. So pay attention.

Our tour guide also showed us some pictures on what Tommorrowland might look like and told us that the plan is that it should be ready in January. At one point, as she was showing us the pictures of Tommorowland, one of the teens on our tour very calmly whips out a digital camera and takes a couple of shots. At this point, my mind is racing. Should I take out my camera too or should I just wait and see if I could get this kid to E-mail me these pics. Well, our tour guide would have none of this craziness. She told him, “Don’t even think about it buddy.” I don’t believe that she ever realized that he had already taken a couple of shots.

We all won some cards and were able to ride several rides: Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain and Haunted Mansion. I think we did Pirates of the Caribbean but now I can’t remember for sure. Everything is beginning to blur. Ohh, you won’t believe this but the young woman from California brought with her the card that you can only get from Disneyland and gave it to our tour guide to give away. Well, guess who got it. My mom! The guide said she got it because of her bravery. Earlier, we had convinced my mom to go on Big Thunder Mountain and she did. Our tour guide told her it wasn’t going to be too bad. She happened to sit next to our tour guide on that ride. Well, I could just imagine the look of terror on my mom’s face during that ride. My mom is the same person that once asked to have the carousel ride slowed because she thought it was going too fast. LOL.

As I said, this will be a very short report but I will do more on the trip reports board. Also, if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them if I can.

I just want to thank everyone on this board for all the quest info and advice. I really wanted to do the quests but this was our first vacation and I didn’t want to spend too much time on VMK.

One more thing, I really don’t know how the heck this happened but we now own DVC-Saratoga Springs. I now have to start reading the DVC boards to learn as much as possible. We are not impulsive buyers. I normally research everything and ask questions of others before I make a big purchase. Well, not this time!

oh, I forget. My brother and I also made characters in the park (we already had a character) well, when we got back home we couldn't access our characters. He was able to get his. He used to wrong E-mail address (forget a letter) so he just created a new address with comcast and then he was able to get in. I still can't get in. I am so upset and not sure what to do. Should I log on with my old character and try to tell one of the cast members in VMK. Would they allow you to have more than once character?

If you make a character in the park, even if you collect credits with that character you should log out and try to log back in just to b sure.

WELCOME HOME!!!

I haven't been "Home" yet, but wanted to be first to say Welcome Home. I found the DIS boards because of the DVC forum. They are a great bunch of people, too, so introduce yourself over there, too :)

Well...QED!! I tried to bring up Voltaire in the Fan Site chat didn't work. Who wants to have a conversation about European intellectual movements from the Englightenment onward? I got my testing scores...apparently I know a lot about intellectual and political movements...not to hot on the roots and causes of the World Wars.

So, about 3pm on Saturday afternoon, my house was either directly hit or else just VERY nearly hit by a lightning strike...My husband was playing World of Warcraft as usual on his computer while I was just sitting in front of my computer across the desk from him (I had just logged off of the Dis and VMK). There was this HUGE snap of lightning almost instantly followed by thunder that shook everything in the place, and I heard this very ominous POP! from my tower...Power went on and off for the next hour until the storm blew past, and when I went to restart the computer to do something online, I no longer had any connection! Since my husbands computer still had a connection, I wasn't sure what was wrong. He checked everything out (techno-geek-fo- a-living that he is!) and turns out that the POP! I heard was my network card getting fried!
Thank goodness that was cheap to replace!
But then yesterday afternoon, my DMIL calls and the call goes through to my cell phone which means that our vonage phone is out...Husband spent over an hour on our cell phones with the lowest levels of vonage tech support who do not understand how their router could have died (they completely ignored the lightning strike factor) until my husband finally got sharp with them and the tech escalated him to a higher tier. That guy listened for 20 seconds to everything we had done with the lower tier and said "Oh yeah...we've seen that before. I'm sending you out a new router." Geesh!
Now I can't help but wonder what else we will find not working in our house because of that strike. I haven't tried my oven yet but that has my vote for probability!
Anyone else been struck by lightning before? :confused3

Oh, and I hope you feel better soon too, Pumpkinfish! :goodvibes

At work we had a power surge through our phone lines and everything connected to a phone line burned out. Phone system, two computers, a fax, our security system and a credit card machine. I have no idea what happened but it causes major money damages and we were out of commission for a couple days until the new phone system was installed.

Still feel like a semi-truck ran me over. I am taking DayQuil since that is just about the only OTC drug my rheumatologist lets me take since I am on other meds. JeanJoe....Feel your pain! I tossed and turned all night!
I just hate being sick when I know I have to go to work and train new employees. Can;t I just lie down in the stockroom and sleep???!??
But I have my tissues, my throat drops, and my orange juice. Mix that with my loving DH who has been very patient with this fever-induced cranky woman...and it could be worse :)

Thanks for the well-wishes ;) :grouphug:

Oh, MissBelle, I hope you feel better soon. I know how unpleasant it can be to be sick and have to go to work. :(

Also, is it a sign that I have been spending too much time in VMK when: I am out running errands with DH yesterday and we decide to get some of those lovely 1-minute microwavable cakes, we are discussing where we can get them, and I say, "MissBelle said she got hers at Target, didn't she?" And he says "yes" and then laughs. Our VMK friendships are spreading out into our RL. :) Now we just need to attend a meet!

:goodvibes But you know what? That's a good thing! You can call me MissBelle anytime! LOL Dh knows that I was calling people by their screen names instead of real life names. I still call LoriR, mickeysmagic :) And the best part is, DH knows exactly who I am speaking of and he does not play!

So yes, I have come home from work. Decided it was better for me to rest and get better. The other managers were fine with it :grouphug: (thanks guys!)
However, when I went to get into my car I DID notice how FLAT my front passenger tire looked :( So I pumped it full of air and called my dad! I LOVE my father. It is so convienent having my parents living 5 minutes down the road! He was at work though when I called, which is 1/2 hour away. He very lovingly pulled out the screw (a screw I tell ya! what the hay!?!) and put a patch in the tire. So that was my afternoon! :earseek:
Now I will pour myself a tall glass of oj and lie down and rest.

Tried yesterday. There was a new addition to our Instrumental Music department who had a shirt that said "Sorry, I'm TAKEN" on it in big letters...and I couldn't resist. She thought I was even stranger than most everyone else though. I've noticed it's really hard to make a joke about VMK when no one else knows what the heck I'm talking about except it's the Disney game on the internet I'm addictted to.

Oh my, Fly... I didn't think anyone would have the gall to try that (granted, your victim had the shirt). Nice try though, LOL.

For some reason, that made me imagine a gathering of us in real-life, each of us with a T-shirt that had one of our old VMK sig's on it. Ones that come to mind include:

- "Future community loser!"
- "Tell your boy friend I had a good time last night"
- "Old, lame, and hate fun!"
- "I'm not taken. Looking for a cute boy."
- "Too old for you."
- "Lame and proud!"
- "Stop looking at me."
- "I accept gifts."
- "I'm out of my mind, please leave a message."

(LOL, and I bet a number of you know whose sigs these come from...)

Uh oh, this thread is getting dangerously "on-topic" for VMK. Somebody, derail the thread to random nonsense!

from a t.v show:

adults think that children are lazy (changes to scene as girl dressed as an old woman) children today are lazy lazy lazy!! (changes back to presenter) but let me tell you something:

Here's my random thought vent for the day:

I am sitting at work when my boss starts shouting for everyone to leave and fill their gas tanks....NOW NOW NOW!!! So, we all rush out. I paid $2.71 a gallon when I filled up. Another girl at work gets to the same station 20 minutes later and it is up to $3.25. The prices have been continually moving up since 10:00 this morning, and it isn't supposed to stop until Tuesday or so.

All this and we are moving across the state this weekend with a 24' truck and two cars to fill up. :earseek:

Finally got moved into the house (unpacked is a whole OTHER story) and DH had to go back to the old house last night to pick up his car. So, last night it was just me and DS6. At 3:00 in the morning he comes to pay me a little visit. I was sound asleep and all of a sudden there is a little face right in front of mine bopping back and forth and singing "There's a great big beatiful tomorrow..." It was entirely too funny. Now we are off to find the way to the mall. I've been past it twice, but can't seem to get there on my own. I hate driving somewhere new!

So it all started when my aunt sold her house to the neighbors, and my sister who rents the basement apartment from her has been asked to move out. Now we're trying to find her a new place to live. We can't possibly afford a house for her, so we're thinking of alternative means of homehunting. Likewise, our landlady is in her mid-90's and could go any time.

What we really need is a house, which we can't afford in this city anywhere for any price. Not even I can get a low-rent apartment on account that I don't make enough money. I know this, because I tried to apply for low-rent housing, and was rejected because, according to my mom, they figure out how much you can afford on rent, utilities, food, and other expenses, and based on what I make, I couldn't afford to live there.

At this rate, I'd wind up living in a cardboard box in a dark alley. :(

Just got back from London today, and am pretty sure I botched up the proper eating of Fish + Chips. So, I was staying in South Bank, and who could pass up a grungy little dive called Fishcoteque, near the Waterloo station?

So, you've got a wedge of lemon, tartar sauce, a bottle of vinegar, and catsup, to go with your Fish + Chips. Too late now, but for future reference, what goes on what?

Is it lemon and/or tartar sauce on the fish, and vinegar and/or catsup on the chips? Do you use both, or just one? I put vinegar on the fish. It was fine, but then I saw someone get a wax paper bag of chips (fries for us Americans), and the owners sprinkled vinegar on it.

Oh, and I'm sure people were staring at me, the barbaric American, when I noticed that I was holding my fork upside-down from how everyone else was... All right, now I'm babbling (tired right now). Don't mind me.

It's good to be back.

I really understand!! That's how I felt my last year of undergrad! As far as going on to grad or law school, I didn't have much option...I didn't exactly pick the best course of study to actually get a job with. Never saw any jobs asking for a double major in History and Political Science with a minor in French. (I guess I could have moved to France and been a researcher of political history! :rotfl: )

Although my last year of college was spent goofing off a lot! When I finished all my schooling and the real world was waiting, I so wished I was still in school and didn't have to face the "real world" and think that I was going to be working the rest of my life! (Especially if I'm gonna pay off those student loans! lol)

And what is a shilling anyway?

When I changed my currency at the beginning, I admitted to having no idea the difference between pounds, pence, and shillings. They told me 100 pence in a pound, which is easy enough to remember.

Then I asked what a shilling was. The woman just looked at me, "There are no shillings." Are they some ancient piece of currency from the 1500's or something? Did I do something similar to asking about how many doubloons and pieces of eight there are in a dollar?

Why does this Tropical Storm/Hurrican Ophelia feel like raining on my parade?! We finally make a move for a job that is better for DH, DS loves his new school and I get the chance to take a little while off before looking for a job, and Ophelia has us in her sights. What did I ever do to her? :confused3 I guess that is what I get for moving to an island

I hope that this will help explain to you what a shilling is:

When I go overseas I try to use my Visa for everything so I do not get confused -- I do have some conversion but not that much, as I do not travel that much with $$ --- I hope that this link can explain for ya! :)

thanks! but... i thought i was confused before... that link gave me a headache.

i guess that's because i can't even generally remember how many cups in a pint in a quart in a gallon. Did i ever mention the time when i doubled the amount of butter that went into a batch of cookies? I've never seen an oil slick ooze out of a cookie before.

(I still ate them. Greasy but good!)

I'm absolutely joyous right now. Tonight I had my seating audtion for the Youth Symphony I play in. And I just had probably the best audition I have ever had in my entire life. The director usually terrifies me when I play...but today everything went PERFECTLY! I hit every note, every accent, every slur, every crescendo...John McCaw would be proud.

To top it all off...everyone else in the clarinet section played the same thing for the audition: the first movement of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. And what did I do...I set myself apart I played the Raga Music by John Mayer, a piece for clarinet written in an authentically Indian style.

Oh my gosh...I'm so happy! :) There aren't words with which I can describe my feelings!!!!!!

It's been a while since I inflicted a random post about my kids on this thread.

For the past 3 nights, my 3yo daughter has insisted at bedtime on dressing up in a Disney princess outfit and jumping up and down like a crazed maniac to Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" (which, because her nickname is Jia-Jia, she is convinced is Jia-Jia Be Good").

As I type this, Cinderella Jia-Jia Be Good is jumping around with a pink feather boa. Oh, and she has added the red bow Snow White headband. (Well, at least it's not a pink trucker hat.)

Kids are so strange.

The question is, does Cinderella Jia-Jia Be Good actually go to sleep after this parade of er, style??? I'd be all for whatever bedtime ritual a child has....as long as it really means bedtime  She hasn't yet gotten you all boa-ed up has she?!

If a Guest675686 follows me into a room, please don't boot him. I made an account for my youngest son tonight. He knows how to follow me, so he probably will be coming into rooms with me. Hopefully soon his screen name of TheCodyMan will be approved soon.

Also, he won't be trading. He's too young for that. I put it in his signature, but we all know how useful that is. His signature also says Dis Kid, so you can know who he is.

I'll see you all at the end of the week...off to Disneyland! Hopefully, I'll be sporting some gold mouse ears next time you see me! Take notes on the activities this week, I don't want to miss anything!

Small Hijack!!

Canadian,

Happy Birthday to your baby (a little late)!!

Back to our regular scheduled thread.

(I am answering you here, rather than hijack the other thread)

Thanks from Jay! We visited his Oma and Opa (grandparents) on Saturday and had a party on Sunday. I missed most of VMK on the weekend, but managed to grab one of all the costumes and pins. I was going to get more hats on Monday, as I thought they would last through the event, but it wasn't meant to be. :confused3

Here is a picture of Jay enjoying his first birthday cake! (he doesn't look too sure about it :) )
