I know there are others booked, because I jumped on the November 1 release and already missed 4 of those "secret porthole" cabins!!
We're sailing on our first DCL cruise! We've booked the remaining "secret porthole" cabins and a sideways inside on deck 5. It will be 4 generations sailing, my grandparents, my parents, dh and I, and Connor. We're celebrating Connor's 5th birthday on this trip!!
I'll be decorating all the doors, and we're already trying to plan our shore excursions. I'm getting dh a surprise for his birthday next year...the eco tour at Castaway Cay! He loves jet skis but doesn't get to ride often, so I thought it would be a perfect surprise present.
So, who else will be joining us?

Yes, count us in too. Just my wife and I. We will be celebrating our 30th on January 28, 2008. Anyone want to share transportation? $138 with Disney is high. Planning to vist Atlantis on Jan. 28. This will be our third disney cruise.

Hi there! Finally! It's good to see we're finally getting more people on board! We are hoping to do Atlantis too. Playing everything by ear right now, as we planned and booked this cruise before I found out I was pregnant, so this will be baby's first trip.
Keep in touch!

 Hello fellow January 27, 2008 Wonder cruisers.
I have looked before for this thread but never found it.
We booked this cruise while we were onboard the Disney Wonder Jan 7 - 11, 2007 sailing.
It will be our 9th Disney Cruise. It will be me (Robin) my husband, and another couple. I might try to book our then 20 year old daughter into our cabin too but I haven't done it yet.
We are booked into a sideways category 11 cabin on Deck 6. We have stayed in sideways cabins before and we like them.
Nice to meet everyone and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better before we sail.
GEB@okw, the last 2 cruises we took out of Port Canaveral we rented a car one way to Port Canaveral, returned it to the rental place and then rented another one on the way back to the airport.
That worked out really well for us. We also found it to be an economical way there and back.

Hi cruisin', welcome to our thread! I have a question...you said you enjoy the sideways cabins. I booked one on deck 5 for my grandparents (in their late 70's) when they decided to join us because I couldn't get another secret porthole cabin, and they want to be near my parents. They have never cruised before, aren't huge travellers, but are pretty flexible. Do you think they'll be ok in a sideways inside?

I'm sure that they will be just fine in that cabin. My parents stayed in one last year for their very first cruise and enjoyed it.
Those cabins give you a feeling of being more spacious than a normal category 11 cabin. The ones we have been in also have a steamer trunk in them for storage.
I have some pictures. I'll go and find them and post them for you so you can see what they look like.

Here are the pictures of our cabin number 6011 on the Wonder.
Just ignore my husband in the pictures;)
These cabins feel bigger I think because you enter the side of them instead of the end. You walk into the sofa area of the cabin.

Ok, now I have another question for those of you who cruised in Jan before...how is the weather? We just got back from Florida with the same party that will be travelling in January, and we have some nervous fliers. My mom is terrified of flying in January...to the point where she actually asked me to change the cruise to April (I've looked into it, but it doesn't look good for getting our same cabins, and it's more expensive of course). Dh and I were planning to fly in early anyway for a short stay at Disney first, but I think we should all fly together now, and I'm not sure what my grandparents would do for a few days at Disney...they aren't park people. We were planning to stay at ASMo, but now we may have to rethink...again, don't think the grandparents would like the noise/kids etc.
Advice/Suggestions?

 hello and welcome aboard KandiB.
Glad to have you sailing with us.
Hi,Tracey
I just got back from Florida early this morning too ::yes::
We have sailed 13 times and only 5 of those cruises were NOT in January.
I don't remember very many of those cruises where the weather was not good. A couple of times it was a bit chilly at Castaway Cay but not uncomfortable (especially for Canadians ;) )
You never know what the weather will be like exactly but since we keep travelling in January, guess it hasn't been too bad overall.
I definitely recommend flying down a day or more before the cruise leaves. We have done it before on the day of the cruise but at that time of the year it can be a bit stressful depending on the weather conditions at the time.
We have stayed at the POP Century with my parents and they loved it there. Maybe your grandparents will be okay.
Are they mobile enough on their own, able to travel around:confused3 They could consider resort "hopping". We have done that before. Just take the Disney transportation and visit the different resorts and check out the decor of the lobbies and the grounds. That is an interesting way to spend some time.

Thanks to a great code from the transportation board, I was able to rent two one way rentals to the port and back for about $25 each way. Sure beats Disneys price of $139. I used budget. Is it close to pier?

We have done it that way in the past before.
It is a great, economical way to get to and from the terminal.
We have used Thrifty before.

Hey all, just touching base (and moving our thread up the board a little!). Seven weeks to go before our new shipmate arrives and I can start the tedious task of applying for his b/c and passport! Hopefully it will arrive in time!!
After many discussions with the "grand" family (as Connor refers to us all), we've decided to suck it up and stick with the plan for the cruise in January. Weather be darned! We're now trying to plan excursions. Thinking we are just going to do Atlantis on our own, and maybe not even the aquarium, just tour the public areas and take some pictures, then head back to the ship for lunch. Maybe after lunch venture out and catch a cab to Ardastra Gardens, but most likely just stay on the ship. I think now everyone is worried we aren't going to have enough time just to enjoy the ship!!
I just bought us all matching t-shirts for embarkation too...disneyshopping had a good sale and dh was in NYC last week, so I had it shipped to a friend down there. We'll be the "grand" family of 6 adults, 1 child and a baby in Navy T-shirts with the characters in the Mickey head logo on the front. Not sure how I'll add to the back yet, but I'm working on it. Our door decorations will match the saying on the back...
1 st Disney Cruise (Caeden's 1st trip) +
2 Islands +
3 Cabins +
4 Generations +
5 th birthday celebration for Connor
= One priceless "grand" family vacation!!
Getting excited about the cruise, but the "nesting" instinct is starting to take over, so I'm sure I'll be preoccupied with setting up the baby's room, washing baby clothes, cleaning house etc. for the next few weeks.

Hey all. Well, bad news. We have had to cancel from this trip. With the new baby, finances have gotten a little tighter than I'm comfortable with, and my parents are having a tough go this year financially too, so we've decided to do it another time. We did have 2 of the secret porthole cabins booked, so if anyone is interested, they should be back in inventory on Monday or Tuesday.
We're still going to go to Disney in April for a few days, just to get our Disney fix, but I'm still sad:sad1: . Enjoy the cruise and have a few drinks on Castaway Cay for me!!!:woohoo:

Nice to meet you Robin & Rick, you are seasoned cruisers there is no doubt about that. This will be our 3rd on DCL but the first time on Wonder. Our 8th cruise overall. We were on our last one in Jan., a 7 day western and we just couldn't stay away any longer!
How many is that of us from this thread? Seems like a few more Canadians. We were on the Dis Meets Cruise Call for our last trip, almost a year before we sailed, and got to know a lot of people on DIS. The build up and chatting before the cruise was 50% of the fun for us! It provided us with lots of useful info and fun leading up to the cruise.
Looking forward to counting down sleeps again!

Hey Jennifer that is a pretty cool fish extender!
Just thought I would make a suggestion to any new cruisers to bring a pillow case or nightshirt and hand it in to the concierge desk when you board. The characters will all sign it and you will have it delivered back to your room by the end of the cruise. We did pillow cases last cruise and they were a hit with the kids. We included different colored washable markers for the characters to use and then when we came home Lorraine stitched over the signatures with matching colors and then we washed the marker out. They turned out great. This time I think we will take some night shirts or t-shirts.

When we bought them they were in a zippered package, so we designed an iron-on for the cruise, the same as our door magnet, did the transfer and then replaced the cases in the original package. It kept them clean for the trip. Then we turned them in when we boarded and they have a form they fill out just for that purpose, they take your name and cabin # and who you want to sign it. We also had the ships Captain sign it!
We were a bit worried when it hadn't arrived by the last night of the cruise, but we asked our room steward and he got right on it and got them down to us!

Hey anyone out there want to share a room at the CS for Atlantis access? It's just my wife and I (Celebrating our 30th) and I think it might be cheaper for four adults to gain Atlantis access with one room at CS than two adults and two rooms. Anyone know about this? Thanks for the offer GEB@okw but I don't think we would be interested. We don't know what we will be doing yet in Nassau. Quite often we just stay on the ship.

GEB, we want to do the Atlantis waterslides too and I've been reading quite a few threads about it the last couple days and we think the thing to do is get Comfort Suite rooms. We are going to check with our TA thru Mouse Ears Vacations and see if she can get us a room. Much, much cheaper than doing the DCL excurtion and you get access to everything, and just a
$5 cab ride over per person.

I'm hoping he will be one of those guys that reluctantly goes on the cruise and then is the first one to want to book another. I'm afraid that might not be the case though, as I still have to drag him reluctantly to WDW!
Momtobradley how cool is it that we will both be celebrating our son's 5th B-Days?! My Son's actual B-Day is January 13 and we were going to take the 4-day cruise that departs on that day. However, while checking out price quotes and availability of different rooms/ cruises on the DCL website, one of the secret porthole rooms came up as available for the 01/27/08 cruise, so I decided to book it.
There was a lot more room availability for the 01/27 cruise, so I was thinking it would be a lot less crowded than the 01/13 cruise (BIG plus in Hubby's book!- should I start referring to him as Grumpy? :rotfl2:) but I talked to a Supervisor at the DCL call center (due to another issue) and he explained that the ships usually sail at 100% occupancy. He stated that if the ship is undersold they offer good discounts to CMs to try to fill the rooms. I'd heard that before, I just didn't realize that they normally sail at 100% occupany.
Ouestion to those that have sailed before, does the always sailing at near 100% occupancy really seem to be the case? I thought I'd seen others post on the Dis about how crowded the ships are during spring break etc., if the ship usually sails at 100% what difference would that make? :confused3

I think it is great that we'll both be celebrating : ) We are also doing the 1/27 cruise due to cost. Our sons actual birthday is 2/6, but I think it will be a big surprise for him to be celebrating while on vacation. I have all kinds of little surprises planned for him :woohoo: Do you have a cabin number yet? Are you early or late seating for dinner? Would love to meet up with your family!!

I have about a million questions! I'd been surfing the boards on and off for a couple of days and was beginning to think we'd have the ship to ourselves!! DH found this thread and sent me the link. We're on this sailing, it's our first cruise and I am getting very very excited.

Welcome Melissa glad to welcome you and your fellow cruisers aboard.
If you have any questions please ask away.
This is my 9th Disney cruise so I can probably help you with most things and I'm happy to be able to do it.
Who are you sailing with??
melissaknits,
This will be my family's first cruise too, so I probably won't be too helpful with your questions, but I just wanted to say "hi" :wave2:

I am cruising with DH, it's our tenth 'legal' anniv. Our previous trips are neatly divided between on property (meaning we were alone) and off property (meaning we had kids along, the one exception being a "quickie" in Feb 01 for my b-day). NO KIDS this time (love them, but they're all old and doing their own thing - really old - 30, 23,21,19!!). We also have a Port Orleans Riverside 'problem' - as in can't stop going back. I am hoping to change that this year before we sail.
We splurged and got a verendah on the boat and I am planning to fit in things like brunch and dinner at Palo - though am nervous about getting in since we can't book till 75 d. out...please tell me we'll get in!!...and trying to make heads and/or tails of shore excursions and etc.
Take Nassau for example. Never been. Is it worth the $$ to get into Atlantis? And should we do the whole day there, or just the ride over, tour, then maybe throw away some money, and head back to town for shopping and local flavor?? I am not sure I want to trade 'local flavor' for a full day at Atlantis, but at the same time don't want to "miss" anything (I sense there will be more than one DCL cruise in my future...[surprise,honey!] I know my husband reads these boards - LURKER!!).
And I want to know if the spa is really "worth it" - been considering a ginger lime salt thing for myself. It would be my first spa treatment ever, as in I have never even had a manicure or a pedicure.
Mostly I think I am just too excited to think straight! I want it to be January NOW!!
Mostly I think I am just too excited to think straight! I want it to be January NOW!!
That is too funny!! My 4 year old just tonight said "Mommy I want to go on the big ship right now", I told him "Mommy does too, but we have to be patient". Besides, the planning is half the fun, right?!

When is our 75 day mark? Nov 13th or the 14th? The counting of days confuses me!!
Also I am with you melissaknits, I have not a clue as to what to do while in Nassau?? Atlantis sounds really cool to see, but man is it going to be crowded with the people actually "staying" there (can't believe they let us in from the cruise ships knowing what they charge to stay there!!) and with other cruise ships that may be in port on the same day. Doesn't sound relaxing to me with the "crowd" factor. I DO want to shop :) My BIL has cruised disney before and been to Nassau and said he wouldn't get off the ship next time, lol. But two each his own, I want to see it and find out for myself :)
In regards to the spa treatments, I really want to do one :) Maybe scheduale it for the at sea day in the afternoon while my daughter is napping!!
I seriously CAN NOT WAIT!!!

melissa, we too have older kids, our son will soon be 24 and our daughter is 20.
If you don't want to miss your 75 days out window you could get yourself a countdown timer like I have that counts down the individual days. I've never made Palo reservations before so I don't know how hard it is to get in.
We did go to Palo brunch on our last cruise but our friends made the reservation. We plan on going to Palo for brunch on this cruise and I will be making a reservation in advance. Since I am a returning cruiser I can make the reservation at 90 days out from sail date.
Since it is your first cruise I don't know if you will want to miss out on any of the dining room experiences :confused3 The menus and other special events will be different on each evening of the 4 night cruise, so you might want to give that some thought.
I have never used the spa before so I can't answer spa questions for you. I have taken a tour of the spa before though and always say that I am going to use the Rainforest room but so far I've not done it.
Nassau? Hmmm, well everyone has their own ideas there. Have you ever been to Nassau before? Quite often we stay on the ship because Nassau doesn't really interest us that much.
I think if you've never been there that you really should get off the ship and experience some of the local flavour (<~~~ u because I am Canadian;) )
We did the escorted Atlantis aquarium tour before and enjoyed it but you can do the same thing on your own. Now we just take a taxi over to Atlantis, hang around for a few hours either in the aquarium or the casino and then head back to the ship.
Are any of my answers helpful at all:confused: Or are they confusing you even more:lmao:

I wondered about this, transit to Atlantis thing...finding a cheaper way to get there and just wander a bit sounds more like us, IMO. That way we can go back into town. I definately want local flavor.
Are there much fewer people on the ship when it's in Nassau? This brings up another option - ship exploration during a less busy time.
There is too much to do. We'll just have to cruise more.
Oh - can you bring food/beverages onto the ship? Specifically I am a huge huge huge water drinker, and can't imagine paying a lot of money for something I can buy at Walmart for under a buck!

If you take the organized excursions, taking the water taxi to Atlantis is kind of neat on the way there. They put you on this nice boat and tell you about various landmarks on the way. One of the drawbacks is that you get dropped quite a distance from Atlantis and have to walk the rest of the way there. There is also a bit of a walk from the ship to where the boat docks. Depending on if you have walking disabilities or not this could be a problem.
BUT on the way back you are usually on your own to catch the water taxi back to the ship. So you walk by yourself back to the dock and get on the boat. Now on the way back the boat they sent wasn't so nice and they packed soooo many people on it that it was scary.
If you take the land taxi you grab one right off the ship and it drops you right at the door of Atlantis. Much easier. The going rate all the times we have taken a taxi was $4.00 a person. Make sure you as the driver BEFORE you get into his taxi. So for 4 people I would always give the driver 20 dollars US. 4 person and a 4 dollar tip. One year the driver was so pleased he gave us his card and said to have the porters call him when we wanted to go back to the ship. We did that and he was there in literally minutes to get us;)
Yes you will find the ship to be much emptier on Nassau day.
You can bring food onto the ship but not anything that is home cooked or requires refrigeration. I've seen people bringing bags of snack foods etc but I've always wondered why when there is so much food available at all times on the ship. But maybe they didn't realize that or wanted certain things.
I've heard conflicting things about bringing beverages onboard, so I'm not sure about that. I've heard some say they put cases of water with their cabin numbermon it into the "checked" luggage area and had it delivered to their room. :confused3

Welcome to all the new cruisers who have joined our ranks, I am going to have to make a cruiser list to keep everyone straight!
We are also going to take in Atlantis with a Comfort Suite room and take a taxi there and back. Did some checking on it and think that is the way to go, also asked our Mouse Ears Vacation agent and she said that a few of her clients have also done this and had good reports about how things went. But she said that she couldn't book that for us we have to do that ourselves.
Melissa, I was wondering the same thing about bringing water and bevies on-board, so I did some forum searching and found that a number of people have picked up cases of water on the way to the ship and brought an extra bag to pack them in. They tagged it as luggage put some beach towels in it for protection and it arrived at their rooms safe and sound with the rest of their luggage. Some have also brought sodas that way also. They then used the extra bag for items they bought on vacation. We also have packed a soft sided cooler and it was a great thing to have.
We are getting a rental car for the trip to and from the port so we are going to stop off at Walmart or some place like it and stock up on these items and give it a try this time.

I brought romance at sea package so I could make my ressie for our Jan 27 cruise. I confirmed Palo on Jan 28 at 7pm, (Our 30th anniversary) I confirmed a Castaway Cay cabana massage for the wife at 2:30, I confirmed a brunch at 10:30 on Jan 30 and a Exotic Rasul at 2:30. We also have a CS room reserved to have Atlantis access on Jan 28, out anniversary. We will have our breakfast in bed on Jan 28 and our romantic turndown on Jan 28. Does this sound like too much?

I'm jealous! Your bookings sound wonderful!!!! I hope to be able to secure Palo dinner ressies for the 28th and brunch ressies also. Don't know how successful I will be considering we are first time cruisers and I have to wait until 75 days out, but one can hope right?! Is the 30th the only day for brunch? I thought the at sea day was the only day brunch was served, but I was looking at a recent navigator from a 4-day (I can't remember the sailing date) and it showed brunch available on Nassau day. Was there more than one date available for brunch ressies when you were booking?
As is everyone else I'm very excited about this cruise, :hyper: and happy to see this thread getting some action!

GEB@okw - doesn't sound like too much to me at ALL! I should introduce you to my husband....
I just viewed a navigator from the 10/14/07 4-day on the castaway club website, and it listed Palo brunch on both the Nassau day and the day at sea! It looks like they may have recently added a second day they serve Palo brunch. I sure hope so, that would certainly increase my chances of getting a ressie!

So what day are you going to try and get a reservation for?
I can let you know for sure if there are both days available next week.
I can make my reservations next Monday.
Either day will work for me. I have a feeling the Nassau day will be easier to get, so we will probably end up with that if we are able to get anything at all. I will be happy to just get a ressie, so I don't really care which day.
I look forward to hearing from you after you are able to book. I hope it is a recent change and not just something that was specific to the 10/14/07 sailing.

It is actually my birthday 1/27. As you can see by my sig, we do disney a lot, and just wanted to try something new. this will be our first cruise. We are scared to death we will get bored.
So we are doing 3 days at Beach Club, then 4 days at sea. Disney is doing all the transportation work.
We went to the post office to get our passports made 2 weeks ago, they should be good to go in a few weeks. now i just need the 14th of nov to come so i can reserve Palo, rasul massgae room, and day care.
We will be in a cat 5 room with verandah on deck 7. i go nuts in an inside room.
We are young at heart and like to have a good time.
Cheers.

Welcome Got Quattro.
I don't think that you will be bored with being on the ship 4 days.
Everyone is different of course but I've spent a lot of days on that ship and not been bored at all.
On such a short cruise you have plenty of opportunity to be OFF the ship if you want (Nassau, Castaway Cay). I hope that you will find there is not enough time to enjoy everything the ship has to offer.
I have a question for you???
If this is your first cruise, how do you know that you go nuts in an inside room :confused3
Got Quattro?
10-25-2007, 08:56 AM
I'd go nuts in an inside stateroom room looking at 4 walls all the time.
I will usually get up before my family on vacations, and usually go to bed after them. I enjoy just sitting on a balcon someplace, alone with my thoughts.
I couldnt imagine not being able to sit out and see a sunrise or sunset from my room.
Also, are not the type to go go go on the run every minute. We like to go back to the room for naps and such. A room with a view is imperative.

Quattro, it's a good thing that you have booked a cabin with a view then:thumbsup2
I'm sure that you will enjoy it.
I know that it is very important to some people to have a balcony and other people don't really care at all.
I guess that is why they have different types of cabins, so that everyone will be happy;)

Hello and welcome to the cruise and also to the DISboards.
You will find a ton of good information on these boards.
Since most of our 9 Disney cruises have been without children, we have found plenty of things to keep ourselves amused.:)
What kinds of things do you like to do?

I think your son is probably a perfect age to be going on the cruise.
There will be lots of things for him to do onboard. The kids clubs look so cool:thumbsup2
I've never cruised with a little one before so I don't have first hand experience but I've looked into the kids clubs and they sure look like they are having a lot of fun to me.
If he doesn't like the kids clubs there is alway swimming and the water slide and the pingpong tables and other deck sports to keep him occupied.
I have never done the dolphin swim so I can't answer any questions on that.
Hi Got Quattro? and victoriap :wave2:

Oooh! I hope so, too. We probably won't go ashore in Nassau. Went there last year and my scooter is most definitely incompatible with the streets and curbs. My DH said I looked like a Transformer trying to make my escape from the straw market.:)
I'd love to get a ressie for brunch.
The 2nd Palo Brunch would be great, but I don't want to get anyone's hopes up (including mine!).
I asked about it on the main cruise board and these are two responses I got from recent cruisers:
"no matter what the navigators say, there was only ONE brunch on the 10/14 4 night"
"we sailed 9-29 and a 2nd brunch was listed also. didn't read it in time to find out for sure"
Also as noted by GEB@okw on this thread there was no second Palo brunch for which advance ressies could be made.
So I'm thinking it doesn't look promising, as I can't imagine DCL not promoting it or taking advance ressies for it and only those that happen to notice it on the navigator and call that day get in, but...... we can still hope, right?!
Maybe they just list on the Nassau day navigator promoting it for the at sea day (not that it seems there are ever any open spots to promote), but on the navigator it does not specify it is for another day, it is listed just as it is on the navigator for the at sea day. I hope that made sense and wasn't completely confusing.
Just noticed this thread on the main cruise board.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1622158
From what folks are reporting on that thread, it looks like a Toy Story show will have replaced the Hercules show by the time we sail.
"Toy Story the Musical, a 55 minute adaptation of the Disney/Pixar film with all-new songs plus the original film's "You've Got a Friend in Me", will premiere on the Wonder in January 2008. It will be replacing Hercules, the Muse-ical."
I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. I have a DS4 who loves toy story, but everyone seems to rave about how funny Hercules is. Since we are a 4 night I think they should keep Hercules and test the new show on the variety show night. Sounds like a plan, right? What I can't figure out is why they didn't just start showing the Twice Charmed show on the Wonder instead of creating a new one.

Maybe DCL think about adding a second brunch at their decretion. Maybe they judge by the people who add their names to a waiting list for brunch and if it gets long enough they add a second one out of the blue! Don't give up hope they do their best to make everyone experience a great one!
As for the new show they have added, Hercules was very good but it will be great to be one of the first to catch the new show out, I'm sure it will be great as usual.
Good luck with everyone who can book tonight, I'm not trying to rub it in for those who can't, believe me!!

I guess I'm one of the few who will be disapointed. I've seen Hercules once on the Magic before they moved it to the Wonder and I was so excited to see it again:sad1: I personally think that Toy Story is for very young audiences and I wish they would have kept the family themes that they've had until now. Actually, I'm very surprised that if they were going to change the show, that they didn't come up with a Finding Nemo story....ocean theme, etc. Or for that matter, a Pirates of the Caribbean show. I guess they also feel that The Little Mermaid has been done enough.

Good luck to everyone with your reservations. My only advice is to not sweat it if you don't get anything online, you can always try onboard. This will be our third cruise and we've never eaten at Palo's and we've never tried to. The ship is fabulous and we never felt the need, now that we're more familiar with it, we're ready to try more things.

WDdaughter were you making a reservation for 2 people or more?
I was making reservation for 4, maybe that is why the difference in availability:confused3
I agree about eating at Palo. We didn't eat there until our 8th cruise:confused3
Never felt the need because we enjoyed the other dining options open to us.

Sorry! When we started planning it was supposed to be a big family thing, kids, spouses, maybe even a grandchild or two. It just gradually dwindled down to DH and I. (fun, but not what I'd planned)
There's always next year!
Welcome kcromley and WDdaughter!
So glad to see the CC members were able to get the Palo ressies they wanted. Hopefully, there will still be a few left at the 75 day mark.

Was checking out the Disney Cruise line website and there are still cabins available in all categories shown for our cruise.
Maybe it will not be a full ship and there will be upgrades for all ;)
Have a Happy Day everyone!

That would be nice Cruisin. We didn't take a chance this time and we splurged on a cat 6 with a veranda. We hoped to get upgraded on our last two cruises and nothing happened. I doubt whether we'll get upgraded to a cat 3 suite, but I do hope that others are lucky.:yay:

I know that upgrades are few and far between.
We have sailed 8 times with Disney and gotten 3 upgrades with those cruises.
One upgrade was because someone had smoked in our cabin prior to leaving the ship and, WOW, did it ever reek in there:sick: :sad2: We could hardly stand it long enough to change our clothes for dinner. After dinner they found us and the people we were travelling with in the next cabin, new cabins. Much better!
I always hope for an upgrade but it really does not matter to me. I'm just happy to be back onboard:cool1:

When does Disney do these upgrades and how do you know when you have been upgraded? When if you do not like to cabin you've been moved too? Celebrating our 30th anniversay on this cruise!!

I don't know that they have a set timeline for when they do upgrades.
I think they can and will do them whenever they need to "shuffle" things around. Like no lower level categories to sell to people who are looking to get onto the cruise ship. Rather than paying higher prices for cabins they might just look elsewhere. I think sometimes if the bottom categories start to fill they move people up so there are lower categories still available
You can sometimes find out by checking your reservation online with the Disney Cruiseline website. I have heard others say that they were called and asked if they approved of the upgrade:confused3
If you look at your reservation online make sure to check out the cabin number.
Usually if you are upgraded it still says the original category that you booked for but the cabin number is actual in a higher category.

OMG, Thank you so much! I thought the 75 days was TOMORROW night at midnight, man that would have been BAD! Because of you and my addiction to being up still surfing eBay, lol, I was able to get Palo Brunch Reservations for our day at sea! And get my daughter into Flounders Reef :) I am so happy because we weren't going to be able to do any real excursions with our kids being so small and most of them are not age appropriate. So this will be nice that my husband and I have some ALONE time to look forward to, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
I'm so geeked after hearing all the rave reviews about Palo. What is different about Brunch and Dinner other than the time? Do you still get to order from a menu?
Thanks!

I have never done Palo dinner before only brunch so I really don't know what the differences are.
I can tell you about the brunch though.
They have a LOT of stuff set out as a buffet with many different "stations" that you go to.
Yes you can also order things from a menu.
You can order breakfast items and also lunch items.

trying...dh says to give up. I checked about an hour ago, made sure I could log in. at midnight I logged in and it gave me a noon palo brunch. I selected it and hit reserve (or whatever) and got an error message. I tried again - another error. logged out, logged on, now won't let me log on at all. Kinda bummed.
Sorry there's been an error. Please correct the information below in order to proceed.

Well, we got dinner. I was finally able to log back in. Still feeling a bit ripped off that I had a noon seating for brunch and then everything went all hinckey. But glad we got dinner. Although I probably did not need to stay up till midnight for that one, since it looks pretty wide open!

Maybe they are accessing your reservation in order to give you that wonderful huge upgrade in cabin category :woohoo:
Well, you can dream about it I suppose;)
melissaknits I feel your pain!!!
Like you I logged in early to make sure I could get log in to my reservation. At exactly 12:00am I go back to the "my cruise plans" page only to get an error message saying either my final payment hadn't been received or I didn't provide birth dates for all of those in my party. I had read on these boards this error happening to others who were then able to log out and back in and not get the error message the second time. So that is what I did. Of course I only have dial up, so FINALLY at 12:13am I am able to make reservations. The Palo brunch was the reservation I wanted most and of course by then they were all gone. But I was able to get a Palo dinner ressie for the evening and time I wanted, as well as the excursions I wanted.
I know we can try for brunch ressies once we board, I just wanted to already have them secured, so I didn't have to worry about rushing around when we board trying to get them.
Congrats to all those that got them though, I'm glad some of us were able to secure them!

To all CC members, just heard that DCL have stopped giving away the lanyards at embarkation. They were very popular so I'm sure that, at some point, DCL will replace them with something as good or better. For those of us that liked having them you will have to take your old ones with you.
The CC stateroom gifts are, right now, the same as we got in Jan 07. The canvas tote with flags, cups and mesh bags, I don't know when they have a change over to something new.
Sorry to hear that some of you didn't get brunch ressies but get up there on the first day and get your name on a waiting list, I'm sure there will be some cancellations, and you could get lucky. We haven't been to a brunch but we have had dinner there and you will not be disappointed it was great as well. Thanks for the brunch pics, I've been considering getting a T-shirt made saying, 'I Cruise for the FOOD':rotfl2:

On our 8th Cruise friends of ours booked the brunch for us, so we went.

Hi! My sister in law who is a big cruise fan insisted we look at the other board, so i figured I'd check it out. I actually was a DIS member under another user name a looooong time ago, like when it was a totally different board and there were way less users. I tried to log in with my old name and couldn't, and it wouldn't let me create a new account with the old name (so I am in there somewhere, but darned if I remember even what email I was using then - it's been that long!) so I used melissaknits. Actually makes my life easier since I am on kniting boards with that name - easier to just be me everywhere I go.
I am very excited about the cruise.
BUT I also have a little personal excitement right now - my second grandbaby is due any minute (really, any minute - water broken and all!!) and my book (http://www.amazon.com/2-at-Time-Socks-Melissa-Morgan-Oakes/dp/1580176917/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196463755&sr=8-1) is published, printed, and launches in two weeks. It's just a really really exciting year for me. Like, over the top, unbelievable, totally awesome year. It's hard to figure out what I am the most excited about at times!!!

Melissa, has the baby arrived yet??
Cool book. Congratulations:woohoo:
I don't knit. I have done some crochet in the very distant past.
My daughter knits a little bit and my mother in law likes to knit scarves to give away every winter.
I used to love to cross stitch but with these crazy bifocals I have a hard time seeing the patterns anymore so I pretty much gave it up.

No baby yet:confused3 Mom is confused about what "real" labor is. She'll find out soon - all about labor, and all about sleep deprivation and diapers and all sorts of mommy goodness!! ;)
I actually crocheted (from the time I was about eight) before I knitted; I've only been knitting since 2000. See...originally the book was to launch in October, so DH and I were planning our regular December WDW visit with value-added cruise (for anniversary), because publicity people say they want you to be "available" for eight or so weeks after the release of a book. Then they changed the release to "early November", so we changed the vacation dates to the end of January. Then they changed the release date to December 12, and we said "We're not changing the vacation again." Now the release date is Dec 19th, but we've got a launch party set for the 16th. Kinda frustrating. But I am STILL getting on that ship on Jan 27, and I am STILL having my six days at Disney, although now the publicity people are trying to get me to do signing at local (Florida) stores DURING MY VACATION! The good news is that no one can reach us while we're on the ship. :yay: We're guaranteed some free space, even if it's only for a few days.
I want to dress up for Pirates night...DH does not. I think it'd be FUN!!pirate: I cannot wait to see Palo. And I can't wait to get to Nassau, I've decided I want to do the "free" walking tour after seeing some posts on the Other Site. We're not beach-sitting folk, although it looks heavenly - I think I'll reserve my beach sitting for Castaway Cay, and walk and shop my way through Nassau.
Cruisin
12-01-2007, 06:28 PM
Be careful Melissa or they will be planning some book signing parties for onboard the ship :lmao:
We are thinking of doing the walking tour also.
I haven't really read much about it though.
Maybe I will check it out.
I love to sit and walk on beaches but my husband is not a beach person.
Castaway Cay is perfect for us.
I get off the ship and go to the beach. He stays on board and sleeps or watches a movie.
He comes off the ship and meets me for lunch and then I'm back to the beach and he is back to the ship:thumbsup2

Well, if one out of every four women knits, which is the alleged statistic from the Craft Yarn Council....and if my publisher would have to PAY For my cruise...
I found info at Frommer's (http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newprovidence/0251010008.html) with details of the walking tour. Just seemed more like DH and I than any of the shore excursions - wander off and check things out, but with a little more forethought than I'd do at home!
I like a little beach time and then some water time, or wander time and then beach time, and so on.

That's why I said 20! My daughter is 19, will be 20 in March!! Her name is April and she is just the most beautiful little thing. And obviously a genius already. And strong as a small ox - lifting her head and looking about a lot.
Oh, he's utterly in love. It was nice to see him unable to speak. I think that's the first time he's been that quiet since before he was born. And my daughter, who's always said she's "not ever having one of the little animals" changed her mind and said "OK, mom, EVENTUALLY I will MAYBE have one." Her MySpace, cell phone and Facebook all reflect her new status as Aunt, and she's carrying pictures in her bag. I told her that'd be grand - in about 10 more years, but not before. She's in school; I want that degree in her hands first.

Hi Cruisin!
We are flying out of Detroit on the 27th, wish we where flying out earlier!! I wonder if I can change our tickets??? Wonder what the penalty would be, ugh! Anyway, I am so looking forward to this cruise! Now I just have to get everyone packed including myself ! A Mom's Work Is Never Done :)
Where are you staying pre-cruise?

You might be able to change your tickets but the penalty is usually quite high.
We are staying for two nights at the Comfort Suites, Lake Buena Vista.
It is pretty much right outside the gates of Disney Property.
We do not plan on going to Disney this time, except maybe to eat but that's not been decided for sure.
We are going to Universal Studios for a change.
We got the tickets that are good for 7 consecutive days for both parks. I think we paid about $92.00 for each ticket.
We are going to go as soon as we get off the plane on Friday and then again on Saturday. Also thinking of going on the Thursday that we get off the ship:thumbsup2
We will be flying back to Detroit on the Thursday evening.
Are you flying straight down for the cruise and then back again on the day you get off the ship??
We are getting very excited here too :woohoo:

Hello-
My son and I will be joining everyone on this sailing. It is our first cruise and we are really excited. I am a single mom to a great 6 yr old little boy and this is our first trip alone together. I have a feeling I am never going to see my son on this trip. He has all of his time planned out already!
Do we know if there are any other singles on this cruise? Is there anything for me to do? Or will I be getting that alone time all of us mother crave and never get?

We are getting so excited about our upcoming trip, it's almost unbearable! I've been stashing away Disney stuff (stickers, pens, notepads, t-shirts, etc.)to give as a surprise to our daughters 11 & 7 when we leave on the 23rd. Well, they turned the tables on us with a surprise. They presented DH & I with a Disney Countdown Declaration. For each remaining day, they will present us a certificate decorated with disney stickers etc.announcing the number of days left and every couple of days, we get a "surprise" as well, like candy, stickers, etc. It's so nice to have them catch that Disney fever!!

Hi Victoria!
I see your sons name is Bradley, as is mine. My son will be celebrating his 5th birthday while on this trip! Maybe we'll run into you and your son while on board. I am sure there will be other single travelers and most likely you'll be seated with some for dinner, as I know they try to match up like travelers!
Have fun!

Hey Everyone-
I just booked a spot on this cruise for my dh, 4 month old daughter and myself. We can't wait to go on vacation even though we are anticipating a more difficult time than we are used to since we're bringing our new daughter along. If anyone has any tips for traveling with an infant they would be greatly appreacited.
Thanks,

Always always always have bottle (or other ;) ) and pacifier for her on the plane, really helps with the ears. We found this a life saver for us. Other than that, something brightly colored for her to look at and blankie :) See you on board!

This is really weird.
When I look at the main page this poster shows as the last post.
When I click on the thread to read, the post is not there
When I click on post a reply THEN the post shows up.
What the heck is happening with that??
anyway, Hi there Katie.
This is our 9th Disney Cruise. All except for one have been in January.
You can never really know what the weather is going to be like.
We've had nice warm to hot weather and we've had chilly weather too.
Expect it to be chilly in the evenings, especially if you go out on deck after dark.
The wind made by the ship moving along with the cooler temperatures will make the outside decks feel quite cool. You will need a jacket or sweater if you plan on lingering on deck.
At least most of our January cruises have been that way.
During the day, the temperatures are mostly comfortable, shorts and tshirt type weather.
Of course, you never really know in advance. I always just think that it is a lot warmer there than it is at home.

Even though we have not used the DCL child care, I would not hesitate to use it. My wife and I would love to take our seven month old grand child on the cruise, but her mom is nursing so that does not work. Oh well, we enjoy our one day a week each babysitting. We stayed at SSR over New Years with them and had a ball. Our daughter teaches music in Kalamazoo public schools, yes there really is a Kalamazoo.

no documents here yet.
But I do know that all the cruises right before us have started to receive theirs, so ours should start arriving real soon:thumbsup2
I just recently heard about fish extenders for the first time.
They are basically things that look like shoe bags that people hang from the fish outside the cabin door.
I have read that sometimes people will get together and put little "gifts" in other people's fish extenders.
I know that I won't be taking part in that on this cruise but I'll certainly think about it in the future.

It's exactly what Cruisin said. I haven't heard of anyone participating on this cruise, so I'll probably just take my little gifts and like "Santa" put them in our extender for the kids as surprises :)

Well, we are down to 2 weeks, well actually 12 days, as we travel on Thursday the 24th. and get in around 2:30. :yay: We are going to MK on Friday and probably AK on Saturday. Is anyone else getting to FL early? No Docs yet but our TA said she was shipping them out last Tuesday we will likely all get them the same day, I don't know about any of you that have cruised before but I think in the past we have had them by now. Under 2 weeks seems like a close call.
That idea about gifts in the fish extenders sounds cool, but we won't have one this time I will have to make a note of it for the next cruise.
Glad to see some more newcomers on-board, we are looking forward to meeting you all, I'll probably be in my Hawaiian shirt and shorts (even if it's cool outside) looking white as a sheet from 4 months of winter with three frantic kids circling around us!! :lmao:
There is getting to be so many of us, has anyone thought of having a meet & greet on-board. Last year our Dis Meets group had a casual come and go in the lounge just outside Parrot Cay dining room and we got to meet a few people there.
Just something to think about, if anyone is interested in doing something we could just set up a time for a quick hello as everyone is touring around the ship the first afternoon.

We are going to Universal Studios on Friday afternoon and also on Saturday.
We haven't been there for quite some time and thought we'd do that for a change.
I would think the documents will start showing up early next week.
Really even if they don't show up on time you don't absolutely have to have them with you at the terminal.
There are plenty of extra documents there that can be filled out when you arrive.
Always nicer to have those things all done ahead of time though.

No docs here in Saskatchewan yet either. We contacted our Mouse Ears Vacation TA and she said she sent them on Jan. 8, she was shocked! She said it was too late for DCL to reissue but gave us intructions on what to do and where to get luggage tags if we don't receive them in time. She said the papers we print-off the website and sign are all we will need to register at the port.
We don't leave until Thurday so we will probably get them yet.
Glad to see those of you leaving early get your docs on the 11th hour!

Thanks Binks, I hope we have a good travel day, and I hope you all get there when you're suppose to. The forecast for next Thurs. looks good, for now.
The extreme temps. we have are hard to discribe to someone who hasn't delt with them but we still have to go out even when it's -30, -40. The best way I put it is; you know how cold your deep freeze is, well, after coming in from these kinds of temperatures and you have to get something from the freezer right away, the deep freeze still feels warmer!! :scared1:
Last year we travelled on the same day to WDW and we were held up for 5 hours here because of fog, so we then took the long way to Orlando and instead of arriving at 2:30pm we didn't get in until 11:30.
I checked the weather and next Thursday in Orlando the temp forecast is for 84!!! I sure hope that holds true. Also I've been checking the weather in the Bahamas and it has stayed around the mid 80's for a while now. Cross your fingers!!

Hmmm, how will we know each other??
I suppose we could arrange a short meeting time and place if anyone were interested.
Also some people will wear DIS shirts or lime green Mickey head name tags for identification when they are at Disney or the cruise. Others do things like tying lime green ribbons to their belongings in the hopes that someone will see them and approach them to talk.:confused3

I was thinking of going up to Home Depot and taking some of the Disney Paint Swatches and putting them on my luggage... I was also going to tie some to my baby diaper back pack. UGH, that means going out in the freezing weather again, YIKES :scared1:
Our flight arrives in Orlando at 11:57, so we won't be one of the 1st on board. I don't know if that's good or bad??
I'll look for you though :)

I will try to remember to bring and wear my DIS pin when I get on the ship.
Please feel free to stop me if you see me around.:goodvibes
It is always nice to get to the ship as early as possible.
But if you get there later the first crush of people have already boarded and there may not be much of a line up of people at the terminal trying to get on.
Are you driving yourself to the terminal or taking Disney transportation?
