I have a huge table to work at in my scrap room. However, I am looking for a desk top organizer for pens, scissors, etc to keep some thngs right within reach all of the time. Hopefully something that turns round and round (although I could always set something on a lazy susan.)

Please recommend something.... I am losing my mind.

I use old caning jars to store all my scissors, multi-purpose tool, and some pens.

I have seen where a person used a wine stand with pretty blue glasses. That is where she stored all her pens in.

how about the one they did for the apprentice? I think staples sells it. You could put long stickers in the paper area and your trimmer, etc.

I have no idea what you're talking about.....but do tell more...... do you have a picture?

I have heard that some pens you are supposed to store on their sides, so I use a mini drawer set. It works pretty well and I have a flat top for more stuff!

I thought about something round that would spin (I had something like that at work from an office supply store) but decided against it. Round things don't make the most of your available space IMHO. I ended up getting myself a Krafter's Purse at CKC last July and really like it! My pens are still in something separate since they're supposed to lay flat, but the purse holds my adhesives, pencil, tablet, small stapler & staples, refills for cutting tools & adhesives, my Perfect Layers tools, etc, etc. I like it because I can just grab that to go scrap somewhere else & still have my basics with me. My personal trimmer fits in it, but I don't store it there. This is what it looks like: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/fabricsunlimited_1922_9025251

I also ordered something that has a stand - for the other end of my table. It was free from Skinny Cow ice cream (well, $4.95 for s&h) but isn't here yet. BTW - That promotion runs until the end of the year if you're interested. http://www.skinnycow.com/images/funfr/btnorderorg.jpg

that may just work! ;-)

I have a huge closet to keep all of my scrapbook stuff in. That being said, I don't want to get up to get every single little thing. So I was looking for something to keep on the table to keep some smaller things within arms reach.

Thanks!

I searched that krafter's purse on google and saw they now even have it in a bigger size. Does anyone have that one? How do you like it?

I definitely like the small one for my tabletop.........but Santa will be coming and I have been a good girl....a very good girl......

I can't imagine using the larger one personally. I like being able to reach in & grab what I need...with the added height I don't think I'd be able to see inside & end up picking it up off the table.

I forgot to mention that I also found a wire rack at Wal-Mart that I keep on my table & take along to crops with me. It allows me to double that area - kind of over & under, you know? The one I got was under $10 & slides to expand the width. It collapses so that it's flat when I carry it to crops. They also stack if you need more...but you wouldn't be able to see the person across the table from you at a crop if you used 2. ;) I can't take credit for this idea - Spinning had one at the crop I met her at earlier this year & I fell in love with the idea! :teeth:

Dh got me for Christmas last year an organizer for the desk that has boxes that you can configure and stack together and one of the boxes has an X in it to store pens in the 4 triangles of the X. I have also used one of the organizers for picnics - the one for forks, knives, spoons and put pencils, pens and such in that so its more portable. This one is only a couple of bucks.

I use empty tea canisters. I saw the X insert in a pen holder my friend had and added one to a square tea canister, it works great. That way, I can pull out just the canisters I need (scissors and pens, but not rulers) if needed. Besides, it combines two of my favorite things, tea and scrapping.

I have tried all different ways to stay organized and it just doesn't happen! LOL!
But then I found this little gem! It seems to be doing the trick! And best yet, I love to go to crops I just grab it and go. Orginally I swore by my tackle box but it was so big I couldn't sit it on the table so it was over on another table. I still love it but use it more for storage.
But this bag is great, and fairly cheap. Mike's sells them for $19.99 They come in 3 colors. The bag above is nice too but rather deep. Which is what I didn't like. I almost bought one till I saw this bag!

I use the Pampered Chef tool turnabout and love it for my pens and scissors and other tools. I have all my pens separated by color and it makes it easy to find which color and/or size pen I need.

I was just going to suggest the tool turnabout! You can dissasemble it and put it in the dishwasher if it gets grimy.

I too use the Pampered Chef tool turn about. It is great. And yes it can be put in the dishwasher.
If you don't already have a consultant, mine has a website that you can order off of.

I also use the Pampered Chef Tool thingie. The only complaint I might have is that it doesn't always spin easily. Maybe mine needs to be greased? But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the multi-compartments and the fact that it is multi-leveled. Scissors, Un-du, tweezers, kraft knives in the lower, outside ring, watercolor pencils, journaling pens (which I rarely use), paintbrushes, pencils up next, and my rulers in the top middle spot. I LOVE it (did I already say that?). And I rarely, if ever, crop away from home, so travel is not an issue for me. ................P

you said "Mike's sells them." Is that Michael's? What brand is it please? or what's it called? Is there a place online to order?

I've seen several people (at crops) use the Tool-turn-about from Pampered Chef.

:rotfl2: Yeah, me and Mike are best buds too...

I saw a ton of these in the main isle in front of the scrapbook section. I have the totally cool one, smaller and square. I like mine, and my friend has the one from Mike's, and she likes hers better. It all depends on what you want to carry.

I use something similar to the PC Turnaround, but it's smaller. It came from Staples, and holds all my pens, scissors, tape, corner rounder, tweezers (for stickers), and blades. It cost about $10 and it's perfect!

Hmmmm.. I guess my suggestions are to late..but I will second, third or is that fifth the turnabout tool from PC. I've used that for year now and it does works very well. The multiple compartments of diffrent hights and sizes makes it easy to store TONS of things. I keep anything from my sissors to glue sticks in mine (and of course EVERYTHING in between). I also have that handy tote bag froms Michaels...which is nice BUT I'm not like'n it as much as the turn about tool. Of course it is great for crops and on the go....but to have out all the time at home :confused3 ....I guess I just like the ease of spinning the turnabout at home. I found with the bag it was to hard (for me) to decide where to put everything...and the pockets and places to stuff things were never the right size for the things I wanted to put there. It was easy to stick the sissors or pens in...but other things were more difficult (less than $20 + if you use the 40% off coupons..it ends up being just a little over $12 almost makes it worth just getting it to see how well it'll work for you) Oh...another thing I didn't like about the bag was the dividers on the inside are not connected to the bottom....making it very easy for the stuff inside to slide under and into the next compartment.

I went to Michael's today and found that in Light pink/brown, Teal/brown, and lime green /brown.

I think that's the only colors they come in. Anyone know?

The only other color our store had was black with a little piping.
Scrapper Jill I do agree about the dividers I wish they were fixed at the bottom. But so far I have the bigger stuff in there and it hasn't been a problem.
I will have to look at this PC thing. The thing that is nice about the bag is the handles if you are a cropper who goes to crops you just grab and go. But I would like something on my desk....ok I will admit it I am a bag junkie!

Hi. I just got back form Target yesterday. I found a square shaped revolving organizer made by Jetmax. Only $19.99. A magnetic side, a drawer, the top tray comes out, a place to put a photo. I found it in the scrapbooking sections. Then for $24.00 each, there is many other pieces that puts together a desk and drawers and cubes.

Chiming in late...I tried the cute bag from Michaels, but it just didn't work for me, so I gave it to my mom. I wound up with the Tote-Ally cool tote and really like it so far. I use a Tonic guillotine trimmer and it's the only tote that it would fit in. I got the red/brown, but I just bought a pink set of Butterfly/Dragonfly totes, so I'm thinking I need to get a pink one now so I can be matchy-matchy. It doesn't take up much of a footprint and it holds a LOT.
