I have a questions as I just read in a book how someone lost a contact on one of the rollercoasters. Apparently they teared up from all the wind rushing by and it popped out. I wasn't sure how glasses would be on some rides and I was worried about wearing them but want to know what others that are in the same situation as I am do? I was going to wear contacts and bring my glasses but now I'm don't know if I should bother buying contacts or not

CONTACTS!!! Why bother with glasses all day. I've been to the "World" several times and always had my contacts. I have never had an issue with them. Just make sure you bring a spare. I always do, but have never used them. The best thing is that you are able to wear sunglasses when you are walking in that Florida Sun. :cool1:

I have gas perm contacts (hard) and they will pop out. I always wear my sunglasses on the fast rides so my eyes don't tear. I get dust in my eyes easily and the sunglasses help with that too. Doesn't make for very nice ride pics though.

Yes this is what I figured would be nice with wearing contacts is I can then wear sunglasses. I do have the clipon sunglasses if I were to wear my glasses but I do feel that contacts would be alot easier. I was just worried what things would be like for the rides. Also after reading about the contacts popping out after being on a ride I was trying to figure out which would be better or would there be anything better to wear. I appreciate your response and will more then likely be buying contacts before I leave for our trip in December. I will just be sure to have an extra pair as well as my glasses for backup if I feel that the contacts are bothering me

I suppose it all depends on what kinda contacts you wear! I would be buying disposible contacts and they would be the soft ones. I go to see my eye dr this month and will decide which would be the best. I will have to mention what I'm getting them for and I'm sure they will recommend a good pair for meI have gas perm contacts (hard) and they will pop out. I am unable to wear soft contacts because of strange bumps on the whites of my eyes. I did wear soft for years with no problems. If I did have a choice I'd choose soft over my hard (although a pair of hard will last me well over 4 years). Soft ones 'cling' to these bumps and feel like they're squeezing my eyeballs to death. They're suppose to 'float' on your eye as you move and blink.

BTW, I've ridden many, much faster rides than Disney has with no problems...as long as I have my sunglasses on to keep the tearing down and the dust out. (The Beast and Son of Beast at Kings Island, X-Flight at Six Flags, etc) I even wear them at night on the coasters. May look silly but I can keep my eyes wide open and see where I'm going!

I would go with the contacts simply so that you don't have to worry about glasses falling off your head during a fast ride. Also if you wear disposables, bring an extra set with you in the park in case you are worried about losing a lens.

I wear contacts (soft) and have never had a problem. I find it much easier than having to worry that my glasses will come off.

Another vote for contacts, especially in the summer. When it's hot and humid out, glasses tend to fog up every time you go into an air conditioned building. It's probably not as big a deal in December, but still.

I love to wear my contacts in WDW because of the water content in the air. I can wear them all day and they feel great. I almost don't want to take them out at nite. I have not had a single problem with them in Florida or on any rides.

However, out here in the west, where the mountains are high and the air dry. I put them in this morning. Add drops every few hours and by 6 pm they will be out.

My biggest problem with my contacts on our last trip was sunscreen!!!!!

I had only had contacts for a few weeks and this was our first trip with our baby and so the concept of lathering up a little one with sunscreen was also new to me. I kept forgetting to put the contacts in first and so when I did put them in it burned like hell!

Thank you all for your responses as I will be looking at wearing my new contacts and just make sure I have my glasses or and extra pair of contacts with me if something should happen. I do believe I will be more comfortable with contacts and I'm sure I won't have to worry as much as i would with the glassses. My main concern if I were to wear the glasses was that they may fall off during a ride. I don't beleive I will have the problem so much with contacts

I have always worn my contacts to WDW. In 15 trips, I think I have only worn glasses on one trip.

I don't have much trouble with the contacts, but on fast-moving rides, especially the outdoor coasters (Thunder Mountain, Hulk, Dueling Dragons), my lenses dry out from the rushing air (this also happens to me on the outdoor portion of Test Track). Wearing my sunglasses cuts the airflow and solves the problem.

If you wear glasses or sunglasses on a ride, you can easily get a sports cord of some kind, like a Croakie, to prevent the glasses from falling off. I have my sunglasses on a simple neck cord while at WDW, so I just take up the slack and knot the cord at the back of my head before a wild ride, and they stay secure.

You should ALWAYS wash your hands before putting in your contacts, no matter what you may have been doing beforehand. ALWAYS. Sunscreen isn't the only thing that gets on your hands during the day, and the eyes are the easiest method of germ entry into the body. I'm not a germophobe, I don't wash my hands 10 times a day, but I ALWAYS wash before handling my contacts.

I've never had a problem with my contacts popping out in rides (even on coasters at Cedar Point) but I do always bring a backup pair.

My problem is they pop out when I'm crying at Wishes. ;)

I have worn soft contacts for over 30 years and have never had one "pop out." I ride the wildest thrill rides (including Rock 'n Roller Coaster, which goes about 60 mph) without problems.

You might try bringing some lens rewetting solution (the drops you can put in if your contacts dry out), just in case. But if you wear soft lenses, I don't think you'll have a problem.

I wear contacts (soft, disposable) and have never had a problem. Of course I typically wear sunglasses.

Thanks for this info as I go to the eye dr's next week and will be getting contacts for sure as I even went into one of the eye glass/contact places today and the gal there also said contacts is the way to go. I may even ask the dr for some samples of different brands do you have any suggestions of what I should ask for? What brand are you using?I have worn soft contacts for over 30 years and have never had one "pop out." I know you are already set on the contacts & I wear mine all the time & only put my glasses on in the am or at night (or when I am sick & need to sleep then the contacts come out).

Mine have never popped out either & I have soft lenses.

I wouldn't wear glasses (or a hat) on roller coaster type rides because they can easily fall off, IMO.

As for what brand??? I have worn the same brand for years but do you think I can remember what brand it is? Nope.

I will say if you have never worn them before expect them to hurt. Not painful hurt but you will feel them when you blink. When I got my contacts in the mid-80's, my eye doctor told me to wear them for 2 hours & then take them out & then put them back in for 2 hours for the first few days so my eyes could get used to them.

But I could feel them then & now the only time they bother me is if something gets in them or if it is really sunny & my eyes start to tear.

So do take a small bottle of saline solution to carry around with you & your contact case, just incase.

If you get disposable soft lenses, make sure you pack a couple of spare pairs and bring your glasses, too. I've worn both gas permeable lenses and soft disposables to WDW and only had problems once. My optometrist is fond of telling me that soft lenses absorb any contaminants, so no pools and absolutely no dirty hands. However, on my last trip, I got sunscreen in my eyes even taking all precautions (sunblock on face + sweat = potential disaster). I had to discard that pair of lenses, and my eyes were irritated enough that I didn't want to wear contacts for a couple of days, so the glasses came in really handy. However, I didn't wear them on roller coasters because I didn't have a strap. Let's just say that the front seat on Space Mountain isn't exactly comfortable when you can't see a doggone thing except blurry lights. First time I have ever felt that panicky on a Disney ride.

Guests who want to wear glasses on rides should just get one of the bands that goes around the back of your head.

Prairiemom The doctor will have you try several different trial lenses until you find one that works for you. The type of correction you need will determine what lenses.

If you're willing to spend the extra money daily disposable lenses are very convenient. You always have a clean lens in your eye. You don't have to worry about cleaning and protein build up.

COSTCO has excellent prices.

Thanks for this info Kerri

I have worn contacts in the past but I haven't for sometime now. I prefer my glasses but know the contacts are great for times like this. I will get them for the parks basically and only wear them when I have to. Otherwise I will be wearing my glasses. The last time I wore them they were the accuvue soft contacts and I found them good. I used the bi-weekly and found that they lasted me for sometime or for as long as I needed them anyways. I will still be taken my glasses and I will also make sure I have a spare pair just incase as you just never know if you may tear one or even loose one. I know that can happen. I do apprecaite everyones responses and I also never thought about getting a strap for my glasses and may do this as well

I've just recently gotten contacts and haven't had a chance to go any parks with them in, but when I used to go with my glasses, it would be a real pain because I would have to take my glasses off and leave them with whoever wasn't riding the ride at the time. It seems that contacts would be easier for me.

This may sound strange, but when I am on a fast coaster (expecially the first 2 seconds of RRC), I squint. Because my eyes are almost closed, I can still see, but my eyes don't get as much of the sudden burst of air, which will dry them out. You could also just close your eyes for initial start of that ride. :thumbsup2

I have done the same thing, but I found that if I leave my sunglasses on instead, I don't need to squint to keep my lenses from drying out, and I can see much better.

Thanks for posting this info as this is the reason why I'm going to get contacts as I don't want to miss out on the attractions by not being able to see as that is half the fun. I'm going to the eye dr's on Monday and hope to have my contacts next week as we leave to go away on the 1st of December
