Looks like I will be having a vacation out there, do DL/DCA and the semis and finals. I had posted a hotel question on the Southern California board and there is already another DISer going. I know there are Corps fans here, so maybe we could figure out a DCI meet?
It's 8-8 to 8-11

I hear the stadium is God Awful for drum corps viewing, but alas, i will be schlepping my butt out there, just name the time and place! I have to make the trip just to see the Anaheim Kingsman reunion corps! They are doing the entire 1972 show, complete with the Mickey Mouse March! :cool1:

This is true, and you get bonus points for being a Cadets fan!

I think the Cadets are one of the more creative corps. I remember watching them on PBS when they won many years back, then I remember them taking a year off and touring for another reason (which excapes my old mind). I LOVED the uniforms they wore in Denver, all ivory and totally different from the norm. I will have to ask my DS if he knows about the reunion. He never auditioned because the closest corps to us was defunct, although it was reserected in Jackson. We have a local corps here in Nashua, I tried to see a couple of their shows last year but always a scheduling conflict.
I wonder how many of us DISers will end up there?

Not a big fan of the uniform changes the Cadets have been going through the past two years, but I guess it's for the sake of art. I guess it beats the days when I marched and we were literally held together by safety pins and tape! (Thanks Aunt Nelle!) If you go onto Youtube.com and do a search for Anaheim Kingsmen there are a few clips of their rehearsals. Cadets have marched every year since 1934, not sure what your remembering when you say they took a year off. I know, my mind plays tricks on me too, aint getting older fun? Some of the Cadets accomplishments are the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, and the closing ceremonies of the Atlanta Olympics, and of course winning many DCI world championships. And here is a little secret for you, Cadets and Cavies are sworn enemies, going way back to the 1940's!

I'm assuming this is at the Rose Bowl. Not too far from there at all. I haven't seen a competition in ages and would love to! If there are no dog shows that weekend I wanna be there!!!!

Yeppers, it's in the Rose Bowl this year.
Then the new stadium in Indy for a 10 year stint! UGH :sad2:

It probably makes financial sense somewhere to sign the 10 year deal with Indy, but it makes me sad. As a midwest boy, Madison is true and dear to my heart. But coming out to the west once every 4 years or so makes sense to help those corps traveling to finals. Plus me moving to AZ hasn't hurt that argument in my eyes!
But I will be there! Actually thinking about spending a couple weeks on tour with a corp this summer and then a whole summer in a couple years when I get my sabbatical from work. But that is just overplanning the future at this point.

I've toured with several corps over the past few years.
Tons of hard work, sleeping in a moving bus or on a gym floor, cold showers, never knowing where you really are.
BUT, it shaved years off of my life! It's a great experience! Who do you plan on touring with?

This is awsome news about Kingsmen. My family was heavily involved with the Garfield Cadets and when Kingsmen came to Garfield in '72 they stayed at Garfield H.S. which was down the street from my house. My sister became good friends with someone in their guard and even went to California to spend time with her. This was a great bunch of people and I still listen to the recordings from that year. BTW, I was only 10 years old. I'll have to let my sis know, maybe we'll make a girl's weekend out of it.

Daughter was in Crossmen 1990 to 1992. I went on tour in 1991 with them. I cooked. It was great.
Daughter was also in 1997 Cadets.
We're both in the Reilly Raiders Alumni Corps. Mellophone players. There is no other horn. Mellophone players, unite!

Not sure who yet. There are 3 midwest corps that the school I work with send a lot of our kids too, so those would be logical. Of course Academy is my new "hometown" corps, so after I make it through the holiday season at work I will figure it out. It was actually cool at the quarterfinals at the movie thing, we had our kids as Drum Major for 2 of the Div 1 corps.
