Well, I just read a thread on the Resorts board that said that there's a cheerleading thing and something called Mousefest going on at Disney on the first week of December. Which is, coincidentally, the same week we will be there! :scared1: Does this mean that I'm not going to get my nice, quiet Disney Christmas vacation? When we went last time (March a few years back) there was a cheerleading thing going on down there as well; holy moly but some of them had some very thorough vocabulary! My daughter got quite an education, but not exactly what I was looking for. Not to mention there wasn't room to turn around... :sad2:
Eeeek! :scared: :faint:

We're going at the same time. From info. I've gathered on other threads, Pop Warner (the football/cheerleading thing) doesn't have a huge impact on the daytime crowds at parks (due to the competition schedules). It DOES fill the value resorts and moderates (except Coronado Springs) so it will impact you if you are staying there. You can do a search for more details on Pop Warner.
Mousefest is not huge by Disney standards, I think only a few thousand participate (DIS experts please correct me if I'm wrong).
So, it should still be a good time to go. Enjoy your vacation. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi we are also going then. I have read the same as buffalogirl about pop/warner but the baseball major league thing is going on as well. I have tried to find out more about this- I think I'll do a search in this thread. We have always come down during Wine and Food but would love to see all the christmas happenings. They also tape the Christmas parade on 1 and 2 of Dec and may have more people coming for that as well!!
Hey I can't complain, I won't be in Canada I'll be in my warmer home in WDW! :cheer2: !

Let me know what you guys find out about that Pop Warner thing too. We are thinking now of going that week too. DH just mentioned today that would be a good week. We want to stay at the Values too, but we are going to be booking last minute whenever we go.

I'm going that week too. I didn't know about Pop Warner or MouseFest or understand why there was almost no vacancy at most of the WDW resorts. Regardless, I plan to have a great time there!

We will be there 12/1-8 but have made up our minds that it will be magical! Apparently Pop Warner is more of a disturbance at the resorts where they are staying (crowds at buffets).
Seems like the deluxe and moderates are pretty filled--we tried to add a day to our reservation at the Poly and weren't able to.
But it will all be wonderful!!! (We will be avoiding Main Street and the taping over the week-end, though!)

Almost all of them. For example, try booking something on Disney's web site for December 1st to December 7th. On a good day, I'd find the odd room available for $400+/night. On a bad day, the cheapest room is a suite for $990/night. It's definitely not in my budget to pay $5940 for six nights of accommodation at Disney.

over at stupidguesttricks theres a major thread about the cheerleaders, apparently a lot of them got in trouble for - umm, over exposure... to each other, in places they shouldnt... and yes there were a ton of complaints too.

Ugh! My DH mentioned going that week and we wanted to stay at a Value. I had looked a few weeks ago and they wee open then. Did they just book there hotels in the last week or so? I swear nothing can go right for us.

Yes, Pop Warner is only a nuisance at the Value Resorts (and Coronado Springs as overflow I guess). I chose this week and was told by *MANY* Disers not to let it ruin my trip--that it doesn't impact the park crowds at all. So, we decided to stick with this week and we're going to enjoy it!!! I know there are also a ton of conferences this week so that is why resorts are booking up.

About the conference people----know they are filling the hotel rooms and probably the dinner reservations---do they go to the parks during the day or do they "conference"?

Just found this in the Passporter Newsletter...
Lilyian asks: "Does anyone know why the Disney resorts seem to be sold out 12/3 and 12/4? Does the fact that Disney Resorts are full mean that the parks will be especially crowded?"
Dave & Jennifer answer: "Early December has a variety of special events - conventions, Pop Warner, etc. This fills the hotels, but the rest of the hotels in Orlando are quieter than a mouse (so to speak). Even with every on-property room filled, you can't come close to filling the parks. To fill the parks, you need a lot of folks coming in from off-property, too, and they're just not out there. Most of those events at Disney are also keeping the participants busy outside the parks for much of the day - at Wide World of Sports, and in the convention halls. No, the parks won't be empty, but most of the time they won't be close to crowded, either."
YEAH!!

I will be at WDW from Dec 8-13th...anything major going on during that time? I know my convention is happening then, prob 20,000 or so, but I don't think many of the convention goers will be staying on WDW property (I will be, of course)...he he he

Actually they are.
The week of the 3-10th is basically booked up at almost all the resorts. I have been looking into possibbly going that week, and only expensive hotels are left at this point. So I doubt we will go then, since i want to stay on property, but looking at the Value resorts. I am just amazed that so many hotels are booked.

The POP warner football/cheerleading kids are there at that time. They are put up in the Value resorts, starting with All Star Sports. They then spill over into the other values, and into PORS. We were there last year from Dec 14-Dec 21. The first 4-5 days or so were perfect, practicallly empty! Then it go busy.
Have fun!

I booked online at midnight on Oct 31. It was a last minute decision to go. I had gotten a great DING fare from SW 30 min prior so I went for it. Well...I cannot tell u how nervous I started getting when I was searching the disney.com site at midnight for a room. Nothing was showing up for close to 45 min. I kept signing on and off......refreshing the page.......then........FINALLY.....a standard room at CBR showed up and I grabbed it ! My first choice would have been a value resort, but I figured beggars couldn't be choosy. I called CRO in the morning to try and switch from CBR to a value (friends are staying at POP the same time). CM told me nothing at all was available. I have since checked the web site multiple times and made many phone calls to CRO on a daily basis hoping something else besides the executive suite at CSR that constantly pops up. Nothing at all since Oct 31. I am resigned to staying at CBR and spending the extra money----at least I'm onsite.
I have stayed at POR one time while POP Warner cheerleaders were there and it was nuts. They were noisy and dominated the main pool. They were doing cheer routines and making pyramid formations in the pool. They totally took over the hot tub (stayed in there for hours at a time) so noone else could use it. I don't know if it's like this every year, but it was obnoxious.
Also, in Feb '05 there was some sort of cheerleading competition going on. POP was booked to capacity. Some parks on some days were VERY crowded. I recall being at MGM and trying to get lunch at Pizza Planet with friends and there were like 30-40 cheerleaders in line in front of us. They were loud.....rude.......some fighting with eachother. I sure hope I don't run into this when I get there on Dec 1.

Ever since 1999 my DW and I have ONLY gone during this time. This year we are taking our DS(1) and DD(4) to the world during this time (Dec 7 -13).
Back in 2004 we went during the exact same week. I know that POP warner and MouseFest are happening during my stay and they happened during may stay back in 2004. The only time I had a problem was on my bus from the POFQ where the pop warners were staying. In the parks you would see a random group here and there but they did not effect the crowds at all. Also like someone else said the reasons the rooms are full is there are alot of conventions going on also. But those also do not effect the crowds either. Unless you are like me and when I go to my coaching convention in Jan, I may go hear a speaker or 2 but probably NOT LOL :rotfl:
If you are a person who normally goes during the CROWDED season, you will be pleased, because these weeks are times when it is nice to be in WDW!!!

The bad thing is, there are no onsite resorts left. At least anythign affordable. So we won't go then, becuase alot of the fun for us was to stay onsite. Of course, you could always call if you want to go then and see if there is any cancelations. But that is doubtful I bet!

Have you tried booking some of the days instead of your entire trip? I found no availability from December 2 - 8. However, most resorts were available from December 3 - 8, so I booked it. A couple weeks later, a room was available on December 2nd, so I booked it. I have all the dates I wanted, but in two separate bookings. In the worse case, I could've stayed off site or at Downtown Disney on the 2nd. Maybe you can look into doing the same thing.
