I had an idea. For those of us that wish to run with a buddy. Maybe we could post our goal pace and hook up with other Disrs with the same goals. I know that the Cliff guys are having various pacing groups, but they are pretty big and last year they didn't stop for water/walk breaks. It was extremely hard to keep catching up. I always run better with someone else kinda pushing me, call it male ego or whatever. The friend I am training with is going to try to qualify for Boston at 3:10, and I am not quite there yet, so it is either run with Cliff or all by my lonesome.

If you post your pace, then if you see someone with a similar pace you could PM that person and see if your running strategies are compatable. This doesn't have to be like EHarmony, but by sending a few e-mails back and forth you could see if this temporary relationship will work out. :thumbsup2

Ok so my goal pace is 7:50 - 8:00 mpm. I would really like to run sub 3:30. Any takers?

Dave,

You're too fast for me, but I like your idea.

I am looking at anywhere from 10:00-10:30 for the 1/2 and 10-11 minute pace for the full.

Anybody want to run with a seasoned WDW Goofy vet?

What a coincidence, I was just about to post this as well.

You are too fast for me too.

Half pace: I plan the run/walk, hoping to finish about 2:30-2:45.

Full pace: Running and walking through water stops about 11:00-11:30 pace, hoping to finish between 5:00-5:15.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? :teeth:

Colleen--Your pace for the full is right where I run. I keep my long runs between 11:00-11:30 per mile. The only thing is I do r/w--I should be up to running 5 or 6 minutes by January (I'm at 4 minutes right now, had to lessen my running intervals when I sprained my ankle in Sept) and I walk for 1 minute.

Wow, Krista, you are running pretty fast with your run interval or you have a lightning walk, I don't think I could keep up because my overall "run" will hopefully be an 11:15 ish pace.

I will try and practice a run/walk in the next few runs and see how my body likes it.

Glad, I found this. I would love a pacing buddy to help me make it through the marathon. As it's my first full marathon, I'm not exactly sure about my pace. I'd love to finish in 4:30, but I don't know if that's too ambitious right now. I run between 10-11 mpm in my training runs, and I ran 10:15 mpm for the half marathon a couple of weeks ago finishing in 2:14. Paul, it sounds like we may be pretty close to the same pace. I usually also do a run/walk plan for my training runs. I run 9 min and walk 1. That way when my watch hits the 10 min point, I take a walk. In the half marathon, I think I ended up walking about a min at each water stop.

I was going to try the Clif Bar pacing groups, but I didn't know they didn't stop. I guess I'll lose them at my first walk break.

Oh, that sounds great Carrie!

Now that my running buddy dropped out, it looks like I will be flying solo for the ENTIRE trip. So it will be so nice to have someone to talk to. :thumbsup2

Do you walk at all? I always walk through the water stops.

I may be more like 5:15, but you feel free to go ahead anytime.

Anyone else for the 5:00 - 5:15 pace group?

Now I need a pacing buddy to run/walk the half-marathon, I will be finishing about 2:45.

I am run/walking the 1/2. I tend to run 5/walk 1 (or 2 if I need it). My pace is between 11.5-12.5 minute miles. I have never ran with a buddy, so it would be nice to have someone to pass the time with.

DH and I are doing Goofy but we compete at different levels. We sometimes find it easier to meet up at he finish.

At this point I'm looking at R4-5/W1-2 for the full. For the half, I'm still up in the air. I would love to hook up with orther DISers for a pace group.

Hey Jen, you may be a little fast for me for the half marathon. I plan on taking it really slow, but I like the idea of run 5 walk 2.

Disneybelle, I too an doing Goofy, what time do you hope to finish the half, maybe you could run/walk with Jen and me.

Oh, something else we need to consider is the corrals and red/blue starts for the full and the "waves" for the half. I think it would be pretty hard to meet up if we are starting at different times.

Does anyone know which wave will start the half marathon at 6:00?

For the half marathon, I am guessing that those with bid numbers:

1***** may start at 6:00.
2***** may start at 6:10
3***** maystart at 6:30

For the full marathon, if it is the same as last year, the following bid numbers had the following starts:

The Red start: elites 2002-4000, 6001-8000, and 10,000-12,000.
The Blue start: 101-2000, 4001-6000, 8001-10,000, and 12,001-15,000.

I have bib #23,*** (can't remember :confused3 ) for the half so that would put be in wave 2 at 6:10.
For the full, my bid number is #52** something, so I would be in Corral B at the Blue start.

I'm not sure how the bib numbers will go for the waves, but Wave C is anyone planning to finish in 2:45 or later.

Colleen-I saw your planned times above and you're right in line with me. I'd planned to complete the half in 2:30-2:45 and the full right around 5:00. I agree that meeting at the corrals may pose a problem.

I've never tried a pace group, but will have my first experience next week with the Philadelphia Marathon. They're offering a half this year and I'll be running as a training run.

Yes, our pacing groups will need to find a place to gather. Last year Sara and I met in our hotel lobby and then met up with MelR in the "porta-potty holding area". Basically, after you drop off your gear bag you are funneled into this huge staging area surrounded by porta-potties on all sides.

Groups could essentially meet in one corner of this holding area before heading to the corrals. We were there for a good hour before we made the march down to the corrals, it was great to talk with them while we waited.

I'm planning(hoping) on:

1:55-2:00 for the half
4:20ish for the full

I'm training w/ 5R/1W. Last year I ran alone after trying to start w/ the Clif pace group(no walk breaks) and did the same at the Run to Remember Half in Boston. I know running w/ somebody would make it more enjoyable and easier to stay on pace so...

You know, regardless of pacing, Krista and I would love to meet up with you guys to chat and pass time the morning of the full. That wait time from 4am to 5am seemed soooooo long (and cold) last year.

Colleen--like you said, we could meet up in a corner of the parking lot and stay together at least until they funnel us into the corrals.

Anyone up for this?

Dave (mouse skywalker) - we can certainly keep each other company over the full. I was planning on only walking at the water stations, but extra walk breaks would only help. I think that 4:30 is really fast based on our similar 1/2 times. That assumes no fade over the 2nd 1/2, and recent PR's for the first 1/2. I think 4:45-5:00 is more likely. I figure the crowd will slow us down 10 minutes, and photo ops will be another 5-10.

Maybe all of us near 5 hour people can run together, and the speed demons can take off for the 2nd half? I can honestly say I have no idea how fresh my legs will feel this year after I run the 1/2 the day before the full. I may be totally pumped and ready, or my legs might be lead balloons. Last year I felt great at the start of the full, but faded around 17. At 25 I was barely shuffling along. I will do my best to help all my WISH teammates get to that finish line.

In the staging area, maybe we all meet at tent W around 4 am?

Paul

Paul,

Do they have the family meet tents up in the morning before the races? If I remember correctly, that entire area was empty (the area behind the main stage) minus some trash cans and small tables. I sat out there for awhile by myself to rest between 4-5am last year. I could be wrong, but I think they put the tents up sometime between when we are all corraled to the start area and 8am or so. :confused3

I'm just thinking it might be tough to meet at the W tent at 4am if it's not there yet. :)

Anyone else remember the setup from last year?

I "think" you are right Steve! I think the parking lot porta potty staging area is best. You walk into this area after you drop off your gear bag, correct?

Yes, whoever is interested let's find a place to meet, regardless of pace. After the gear drop area, let's meet in the far left hand corner and chat. Let's plan to do that before each race. :cheer2:

Paul, count me in with the 5 hour marathoners, hopefully I will keep up, but I am thinking after the half Saturday, 5:15 is more realistic.

OK, I am starting to get really excited!

Paul - Thanks for your offer for a pacing buddy. I really like the idea of having a group of WISHers who all plan on running around 5 hours. I think that would work well for me, and if I'm feeling good I can pick up the pace a little in the 2nd half. I'm thinking if I can do 11 mpm, I'll be doing pretty well.

I'll just listen to the experts here about where to meet because I'm clueless.

Yes, wave C is the 6:30 group. I like Steve's idea of meeting up before the full, so maybe we could all meet before the half as well. It was a long cold morning last year and with the wave start this year, that adds an extra half hour to some of our wait.

Maybe we could all exchange cell phone numbers to help find each other?

I would love a running buddy, but I'm right at a 2:45 finish with my pace right now and doing R4/W1. I don't want to slow anyone else down

Mel and any other 2:45 Half finishers. I would love to meet up with you. This is my first time, so I have no clue what to do. Tell me where to meet and I will be there.

Mel - you most definately won't slow me down. I am by no means a speed demon. Since this is my first time, I may slow myself down to take pics and such. I no longer have any fears of being swept, so I might as well use my extra minutes to enjoy myself.

I have been thinking about this same thing. It is such a mental thing for me to finish a race and I need someone with me. I'm a runner who has to keep my mind on something else! I do like to talk and run---but you dont have to respond! I found someone almost halfway throught the Disneyland 1/2 and it made all the difference in the world to finish together. We kept each other going! (Thanks, Rosa) I finished DL at 2:24 and would love to finish the WDW 1/2 a bit faster than that. I have trained with some walk breaks but haven't run races with them. Am considering it this time though. Anyone want to run with me at about 10:30 minute/miles??? Debi

My bib # is 25169

I cannot commit to a pace or finish time at this point, but I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to hang out pre-marathon with WISH'ers. It really helped pre-Goofy to pass the time with friends before the start. It is also great to see a familiar face in the corral just to talk and psych each other up. I loke Colleen's idea of the port-a-potty area meeting space. We shouldn't be too hard to spot with out WISH shirts on.

Do you walk at all? I always walk through the water stops.

We always walk through the water stops, although we don't always take them all. I think we did on the last half, though. I also slow down a bit about every 4 miles when I take my Gu (4, 8, 16, 20, 23). Not walking, but pretty slow.

I'm hoping to finish in the 4:30 range. I would love to go a little faster but I also know I might be a little slower, depending on the day. Last week I ran 16 miles at 9:47 pace. Yesterday I did 12 miles at 10:30 pace. I generally run the entire time, stopping only for water and energy breaks. This will be my first marathon. My 1/2 in August was 2:01.

Paul, Dave it sounds like we might be pacing about the same, at least to start. I would love to run with any team members to keep me going.

Somehow I seemed to miss this thread....

I'm hoping to go about 2:05 for the half and 4:30 for the full. I don't know that I'm ready to commit to those times, but that's what I'm hoping for now. I do take walk break through the water stops and then whenever I feel the need on top of that.

I would love to meet with some folks pre-start for both races.

Thoughts on the Half Wave Start:
I'm thinking it's going to be by estimated finishing time,
Wave A: Maybe those who will finish sub-2:00
Wave B: 2:00 to 2:45
Wave C: 2:45-3:30

The short time between wave A and wave B leads me to believe that Wave A is a pretty small group.

Any really slow folks out there up for this :) You know.. some who want to live on the edge and just in front of the sweepers? Cause I know that's where I am going to be! LOL! My goal is to just finish! I kept up a 15 minute mile in the Minnie Marathon... which I was really pleased with.. since I mostly walk.... But I did have a great walking buddy who really motivated me to keep moving! That really makes all the difference I think! So... I am more than happy to hang with the walkers... if anyone wants! :)

Plus, we might just be by your side the whole time :) Beating the sweepers really is our only goal time-wise.

Sunny - :teeth: I hope you know I didn't mean anything by my statement. Now that I've gone back through these posts, it does look like I was quoting you but I really didn't mean to. Honestly! I meant my statement as more of a teasing for you faster folks. :teeth:

You are right, though. Slow is a relative term. I was having lunch with some running friends the other day and they were cracking me up with some of their statements about how slow their paces have become. These ladies usually run about a 9-10 min mile. Some of them are slowing down to an 11-12 min mile. Gasp! :rotfl2: But to them, 11-12 min is slow. They keep trying to get me to run with them now that I've taken up this sport (I mostly walk  ) but there is no way in heck I could keep up with them.... right now. ;)
