We have to give our deposit by November 11th, so we are still trying to decide.
I sent you pictures yesterday, let me know if you receive them.

I'm here!!!
It's me (Jennifer,32) DH 40, DD 5, DD 3
I booked a Cat 9, room 2120 but considering a cat. 6 or 7.
This will be our 5th cruise. We did two 3 day cruises, just got back from a 7 day eastern, and will be going to the Med. on June 6th.

Jen, hope you can make it! I know it's hard taking the kids out of school. I really struggle with taking my DS out next year. It will be his first year of middle school! I know the elementary school they go to now (and my DD will still go to next year) is pretty easy going when it comes to taking the kids out. They usually just want them to keep a journal of their trip, and she likes to write anyway, so it'll be easy!
Jennifer (wow...2 Jen's. :confused3), we are in a cat. 9 too. Just across the hall from you in 2608! When the dates opened I wanted the 26th, however, I think they messed up on the prices because for the 4 of us, it said it would be $9,060!!! I about had a heart attack, then looked at April 14th, and it was considerably cheaper (by like $4,000). So I booked that one. I was able to get a SPH on that cruise. Then, an hour later, I checked again, and now April 26th was actually cheaper but all the SPH rooms were taken already! :guilty: I thought about it for a few days, really wanting April 26th since it's the day after my birthday, but on the other hand, I really wanted a SPH room. I like the savings and the location by the kids clubs. Well, I finally decided to transfer to the 26th and booked the cat. 9 which is still a bit cheaper than the April 14th cat. 10. I also considered that neither one of us has cruised before, and so far forward (SPH) may not be good. I heard a lot of people get sea sick. I am still on the waitlist for the SPH though, but not sure if I'll take it now if it's offered to me! :confused3
Anyway, sorry this is so long! I am just so excited! :cloud9: Can't wait to get to know you guys better!

Hello all! :cheer2:
Got a quote of $5,100 for a verandah room (Cat. 6) vs. $4,100 for a cat. 9.
Can't decide which to do.....tough decision!!! :goodvibes

11-11-2006, 01:19 AM
wow, where did you get those quotes, if you don't mind me asking? I have a family of 4, and we are paying $4,538.52. Booked directly through DCL. And that is after declining trip insurance and transfers!
Personally, I would go with cat. 6. Only $1,000 more for a verandah and if you consider Disney's price it's only a little over $500 more! Go for it! :thumbsup2

got your PM! Thanks! :goodvibes I will most likely transfer to a TA. I was waiting to see the August rates, but it looks like the Magic won't be in the caribbean at all in August 08, so it's highly unlikely I will transfer my ressie. I WANT THE CARIBBEAN!! I want to go to Castaway Cay!

I am just DYING to do the Dolphin Encounter in St. Maarten, but it's so pricey! It would be over $700 for our family. But it's a once in a lifetime thing...we'll see as it gets closer! My DS wants to do the parasailing in CC, but I don't think we'll do both! Maybe if we do the dolphin encounter, we'll just do something simple in St. Thomas, like the Sky Tram.
Have any of you done the dolphin encounter?
Also, do you guys have main seating? What did you have last time, calmom? I am always interested what people from CA do. We eat pretty late at home, and with the time difference, early seating would be a late lunch to us. However, we are booked on the early for now, since I am worried if I book late, I will change my mind later on and it will be too late! :confused3
Got my confirmation letter along with a postcard from Mickey and you would have thought I won the lottery I was so happy!! :cloud9:

Hi wdwluvrs, great you joined us! You will learn one thing about me over the next 17 months...I am an overplanner, so naturally, I had to make a cruise meet thread soon after I booked. :rotfl: How cool that we are already on page 2! :teeth: I already bought one thing for the cruise...one of those over the door organizers! And I decided that the empty room in our new house is to be called the "cruise room" from now on! Yes, my DH thinks I have lost my marbles!
Hey camom3, I saw in another thread you were asking about the dolphin swim in St. Maarten. So you guys are considering it too? I would really love to do this, but I just don't know if it will be worth the money?! I looked at www.shoretrips.com and the dolphin experience seems to be about the same price as DCL. Are you looking at the swim? I haven't even looked at THOSE prices yet!

Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow cruisers!! Just think...next year at Thanksgiving, we'll only have 5 more months until our cruise! :thumbsup2
Seems like there aren't that many staterooms on our cruise available, esp. considering the dates have only been out for less than a month, so I am thinking that a lot of people rebooked for the last possible date (which just happens to be our cruise!) and will transfer their dates once the rest of 2008 becomes available! :confused3

::yes:: Bingo! I know on our 11/11 double dip a lot of the folks who re-booked while on board picked this date while waiting to see where the Magic will be going the summer of '08. And even though I am one of them, somehow this system just doesn't seem fair to the folks who actually intend to sail on THIS cruise. Isn't the 'fake booking' inflating the cost of this cruise? I know the DCL booking agent had all of us book our rooms as a GTY for whatever catagory we were interested in, so at least we are not 'holding' specific staterooms that someone may really want. I imagine it will only get worse as each new cruise sets sail between now and whenver they release the rest of 2008 (current rumor is January).
I guess DCL does this every time there is an 'end' cruise for their booking window. I wonder if someone who really wants this date should wait until the rest of 2008 is announced and us 'placeholder' people wander off to our later cruises. Would DCL even lower rates at that time? You'd also think the on ship booking agents would encourage people to pick assorted/different cruises as their 'placeholder' spot and encourage them to not just all pick the last cruise.
I fretted about this the whole flight home on Saturday.

I just looked the other day to see how many rooms are available on this cruise and I was shocked to see how little. I mean, it's not like it's almost fully booked, but considering it's 17 months away, it might as well be ;) Then I got to thinking that it's the last 7 day cruise you can book for 2008 right now and I kind of had a feeling it's a "placeholder" for lots of people!
You are right...it doesn't seem fair to people who actually want this cruise! But I guess as long as the people waiting for the rest of 2008 only book a GTY and don't take away a potential room from someone that they may have had their heart set on, it's ok. Not that many people book a year and half out and if the rest of 2008 will be available to book this spring, it should be ok!
I check every few days to see if the price has gone up yet but so far it hasn't. Maybe DCL knows that a lot of people booked on this cruise right now will change their dates later!

Happy Thanksgiving fellow cruisers. Before you know it we will also be making final preparations for our cruise. From what we were told by Disney reservations when we made our reservation was that in all likeliness our cruise may just be the last 7 night caribbean cruise out of port Canaveral. They are hearing what everyone else is that there will probably be a repositioning cruise to somewhere else for the summer of 08. Sense this is a eastern cruise it was a easy decision for us as we wanted a eastern cruise. How were you able to see how many rooms are still available on this cruise is there a site to check. Weather is cool here this morning 31 outside right now.

Rumer on the ship was that 2008 will be announced earlier than anticipated, more like Jan/Feb than spring. The folks on the Med cruises are thinking that DCL won't announce 2008 till the first Med cruise pay off dates (as if DCL is thinking folks may cancel Med cruises in favor of wherever they are going in '08).
There is a possibility that I will be joining you all on THIS cruise if 2008 destinations aren't viable/desirable for me. I initially was considering them moving to Nov of '08, but I know I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! Eighteen months is hard enough to fatham! Plus another 18 months after THAT, would be my 60th birthday....another good reason to cruise again in Nov '09!
Now I need to sit down and comupte exactly how many hours of overtime I need to work to start saving up for all these cruises.
Oh.....I did the Royal Dolphin Swim in Cozumel, and though it's not the same company (I don't think), I can tell you it was AMAZING. It truly is "the experience of a lifetime" and to me was worth every penny (though I was only paying for ONE person). It's a pretty heavy hit to the wallet if you are paying for a whole family. Perhaps this excursion can be Christmas or Birthday gifts for family members as the next eighteen months unfold?

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
I'm going to look into doing the Royal Swim in Anguilla. I want to do it on our own as it looks like the Disney version is when you just stand on the platform and are only waist deep in the water.
I can use some help figuring out to get from the ship to the attraction. It looks like the first available Royal Swim is at 1:30.
At least I have 17 months to plan.

wdwluvr, if they will reposition the Magic for the summer of 2008 and ours is indeed the last cruise before repositioning, I bet the prices on our cruise will skyrocket because everyone is going to want to squeeze in on that last cruise. At least those who don't want to wait until fall when the Magic comes back!
ibouncetoo, hope you will join us after all ;) We originally wanted to go in August 2008 since the kids are out of school still (we don't go back until the end of August here) and mine and DH's anniversary is August 10th! However, with all this talk of the Magic not being in the caribbean at all, we booked April, because I at least wanted to lock us into the cheap prices. IF they do the 7 day Eastern/Western in August 2008, I MIGHT transfer, but I am already so set on April now, I don't know anymore... :teeth: But it looks like the Magic won't be in the caribbean at all that summer, and I most definitely want to do a 7 day caribbean with a stop at Castaway Cay. Even if they do 10 or 12 day cruises in the caribbean, we most likely won't be able to go. My DH owns his own business and he's already moaning and groaning about being away for 8 days! When did you guys want to go in 2008?
camom3, maybe we'll join you for the royal dolphin swim. I really want to do it...either the encounter or swim! We'll see what our budget is like as it gets closer. Did you guys request the early or late seating? 1:30 seems a bit late, and we'll most likely won't make it back for early seating. We booked the early seating, however, I am still a bit torn over it. We eat late at home, due to my DH's schedule and worst case, eating at 5pm is WAY too early for us! I might switch us to late seating, but for now, I am keeping early, because it will be hard to switch back to early later, if I change my mind yet again!

Hope everyone ejoyed the day. Being there is no school i was off today Eileen worked as hospitals never close .Spent the day doing the christmas decorations with my son, the Santa claus parade is going on now as im typing where they turn on the cities christmas lighting. we are early dinning then over to watch the show in the Walt Disney thearter. we are cat.5 deck 7 looking forward to the regata excursion in St. Martin and we are leaning toward the eco jet ski tour in castaway cay. we will be signing up for the beer tasting and the wine tasting on board they hold these on days at sea we are also thinking of the tequla tasting and martini tasting. the gally tour is nice and we hear the chiefs hold a cooking class too... I spent the day putting up Christmas decorations too! We moved into a much bigger house in July, and at the old house, we only had one living room. This one has a formal living room with the fireplace for Santa, and the family room! We hardly ever use the formal living room, but I am going to put up our big tree in there (since it has the fireplace). I felt a bit sad today that we won't get to look at a tree in our family room (where the TV is and we spend much more time), so I went out and bought a 6ft artificial tree. It's not as beautiful as the one in the living room, but at least we get to enjoy a tree in the family room. My DH thinks I have lost my mind! :rotfl2: I bought mistletoe to do some damage control!

Our little travel group has decided on this date for our third Disney cruise!
Hubby and I will be calling Costco tomorrow to reserve. Our friends are waiting until they can use their DVC points.
On previous trips, it has been the 5/6 of us (hubby and me, friend and friends 1 and then 2 kids). This time we're hoping to bring a whole load of people with us, at least one other couple with child and hopefully some family members.

How is everyone doing? I am getting ready for Christmas. I am 90% done with my shopping. I already spent so much money, it's disgusting! The kids seem to want all these expensive toys this year, and I just ordered the Bitty Twins with the stroller package from American Girl for my DD7, but now it says the dolls are backordered until Dec. 13th. I am totally panicking, I am worried they won't be here by Christmas. The stroller and one of the extra outfits has been shipped, and the other outfit is backordered until Dec. 8th! :furious: I was out for 4 1/2 hours shopping yesterday, and people out there are crazy!!
camom3, is it really windy over there too? It's terrible here!! We have a brand new house and it creaked all over the place last night from the wind, it was scary! I couldn't fall asleep until 2am because of it!

I just go and check certain categories, do a "fake" booking and then click on "choose a specific stateroom". You can see the cabin # that are still available and for a cruise 16 months out, there don't seem to be all that many. However, I am sure it has something to do with people using our cruise as a placeholder until the rest of 2008 is released as mentioned before on this thread!

This is my last semester in Grad school, I graduate on the 14th and so we haven't even really thought about christmas at all. I'm not planning on doing any shopping until my mother gets into town on the 12th as I still have assignments to finish for my last class (including a research paper I am avoiding even as I type).

just got a new job!! whoohooo!!!! I'll have the cruise paid off in no time now!! Just got the call today! The only problem is...it's with the school district (office) and they don't usually let you take off when school's not out for break, however, they *might* if you are willing to take off without pay (so they can get a substitute). I am totally willing to do that, and I just hope the principal will let me! I won't be bringing it up to her for a while, it just seems weird to spring it on her right away! Just checking in.
Hope everyone had a great holiday.
I've been busy planning an Alaskan cruise for July 2007. We are going to Alaska for my neice's wedding so I figured the best way to see the state would be a cruise. That cruise will just be me and my 3 girls.

I just made a payment too, and DH will be making another this week! He originally wanted me to pick out a digital camera. I have been wanting a pocket size one to carry around in my purse. I have the Rebel XT but it's big and not something you can always carry around. I told him I'd rather wait on the camera though until closer to cruise date (when I *really* want a smaller one to take on excursions, etc. No way I want to lug the Rebel around) and asked him to make a payment instead in the amount that he would have spend on the camera! So after his payment, we'll have our cruise halfway paid for (well, almost!) It's a good feeling!

Jen, is your cannon Rebel a 35mm I have a canon Rebal 2000 35mm. I got Eileen a Sony cyber shot 5.0 mega pixel befor our last cruise . we are wondering if others plan to dress up for Pirate night. I do not know why but we are not recieving emails to let us know when new messages have been posted. Mike
my name is not Jen ;) but I have the Digital Rebel. Here's a link: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11154 I have it in black though, not silver! I really love it but it's a pain to lug around all day! We go to Disneyland so much that I don't even take the camera anymore 9 out of 10 times. I really want a pocket size one for the cruise, because I just don't want to carry that bulky Rebel around, esp. on shore! I was torn between the Powershot SD900 and the Powershot SD800 IS but now I am going to wait until maybe next Christmas. Paying off the cruise is more important for the moment!

so now that it's been pretty much confirmed that the Magic is going to be in CA for the summer of 2008, how many of you will rebook?
I was waiting to see if the Magic would do 7 day Eastern/Western in the summer, and I might have considered switching since the kids would be out for summer break, but I am not going to go for the Mexico cruises. I am just not into Mexico so much, probably since we have been there several times already! And I *really* want to go to Castaway Cay!
My DH thinks I'm nuts, since we live in Southern California and are only about an hour from the Port of L.A., so we'd save a ton on airfare, hotel, rental car, but I don't care!
The only thing I would be interested in would be a repo cruise, and there is just no way I can justify taking the kids out of school for 2 weeks!

We're staying with this cruise. We chose the date not because it was the last one available, but because we found our cruise in late March to be too cool, and in mid may to be too warm, so we thought late April would be just right. Also, the 28th is our 6th anniversary, so that's a big plus in our book.

Hi Kids! Just letting you know (in case you haven't been following all the rumors on the boards) that DCL is supposed to announce the rest of the 2008 schedule on Jan 17th, with bookings beginning Jan 31.
IF I can afford it, I'll probably be switching to the eastbound FL to CA repositioning cruise through the Panama Canal!

cool, I am happy for you! I wish we could swing a repo cruise, that would be the ONLY CA related cruise I'd be interested in since it still stops at Castaway Cay! However, since we have school aged kids, there is just no way!

we have family in Orlando and they said the weather in April/May is perfect, not yet humid like it would be in the summer month! That's a HUGE plus for me, since I can't stand the humidity!!

I went to my Target today and they didn't have any.
Did it snow out your way today? It snowed at my house - it just didn't stick. Hasn't snowed in our neighborhood since 1989.

no, but it sure is COLD!!! It's in the low 40's right now at 3pm! Yikes! It usually doesn't even get that cold at NIGHT! It's also raining some, so I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we got snow tonight if the rain continues!
Haven't been to Target in a few days, but maybe I'll go and check to see if they have any $1 pirate stuff. They usually have a pretty big $1 selection at my Target, I got a bunch of stuff there for stocking stuffers at Christmas, it was great! Oh and tell them about UTOP and PDFG while you are at it. :lmao:
We don't want to confuse all our new cruising buddies!
Um, but they HAVE been invaded by loons. :lmao:
Ok, here's some background stories.....
U TOP..... It started as just a celebration of TOP's (which stand for "Top Of Page.") On the December 2004 cruise thread we'd celebrate for every new page that was started. Since there are 15 posts on one page, the 16th post would create another page....hence a TOP. Something worth celebrating. The phrase U TOP was coined by my daughter as the phenomenon that happens when you're just posting along and you just HAPPEN to get a TOP.....U TOP=Unexpected TOP. :)
PDFG stands for "Pixie Dust For Gary." Garry is a great man who was on our Christmas cruise. He's a firefighter in Michigan. Once, several years ago, he went into a burning building (not sure of all the details of it) but all the firefighters who went in the building that day ended up very sick....some with liver problems, some with kidney problems, some with lung problems. Garry ended up with liver problems and is now on the national transplant list waiting for a new liver. He was supposed to be on our May '06 Blabbermouth cruise, but couldn't come. He did stand on the rocks at Jetty Park and videotaped our group leaving port ....on the ship he SHOULD have been on. We had had a huge banner made that we zip tied to the railing on deck 4 that said "WE LOVE YOU, GARRY." And we all yelled at the same time "WE LOVE YOU, GARRY." There was nary a dry eye in the bunch and Garry himself ended up admitting he was crying when we did that. So.....we sprinkle pdfg on our TOP's to give Garry the pixiedust that he needs to get a new liver. :)
What else am I missing? Oh, smoothie dad. Yes...also on our Blabbermouth cruise WDWLVR, MarkRG and our family ate dinners together. Night one, Mark and my son Nick ordered smoothies. I didn't even think about it until later, but realized that Mark must have paid the bill for BOTH smoothies. The next night both smoothies were on one bill so WE paid for both smoothies. On the third night, the server asked Nick what kind of smoothie he wanted and Nick told him.....and then the server asked Nick "and what about for your dad????" But Mark is not Nick's dad....Mike is. The server totally did not know who Nick belonged to!! :) Then later in the week, KT asked for cheesecake for dessert and the server looked at Mary and asked if that would be ok. Her response was "it's fine with me." :lmao: Sure it's fine with her, it wasn't her kid!!! :rotfl2: So from that point Mark has been known as "Smoothie Dad." :) When Mark and Mary opted to (GASP) cruise without us on the DVC member cruise, I contacted another DISer and arranged a smoothie to be delivered to Mark at dinner compliments of his Smoothie Son! :)
Ah, it's the little things that turn a regular run of the mill cruise into a DIS family gathering. :) (happy sigh)
Oh, and btw, you'll find that Mary is a MUCH bigger loon than I am!!! :lmao::lmao::rotfl2:

This thread was on 4 pages for awhile and next thing you know it's at 5 1/2 pages.
Uh....the Blabbermouth cruise thread got to 3,594 pages :scared1: and it's still going strong even though that cruise was in MAY of 2006! :) Of course, part of the reason it's continued so long is that we had all planned to do a "Do-over" cruise in June of 2008. We wanted a "do over" because there were so many things we didn't have time to do on our Blabbermouth cruise. But then DCL decided to goof up our plans so we are all now sorta divided on what we want to do and what we can do, schedule wise.

Which in hindsight is very funny. On tip night the servers probably looked at Mark and Mary's tips and thought "man, they stiffed us, two adults, two kids, crappy tip." And when they looked at ours they probably thought "COOL, great tippers....2 adults, yet they tipped us as if they were a party of 4!!!" HA!

Might as well tell ya'll up front....gaRry will ask your blood type to see if you are a good match for a new liver. His doctor told him he can't have a live donor, but so far that doesn't seem to have gotten through to him. He'll take your liver even if you aren't done with it!!! :lmao:

Just want to let you all know that my daughter started a thread for all of the teens and tweens who will be on this cruise. They did this for the Blabbermouth cruise and by the time all of the kids got on the ship they were all really good friends and had found buddies to hang with. Dinners were fun because kids would swap tables and sometimes eat with their friends!!
I encourage you to get your kids involved. Last time we had kids as young as 6 getting to know other kids.

We'll just do "tropical" wear on pirate night. We'll be combining this cruise with a week at WDW (DVC members) and the amount of packing to get in all of those extras is just too much. :)
But I WILL have my door signs....

Hey....looking at that door sign made me think of something....Maybe we need a mascot to send around.
For the Blabbermouth cruise, since it was a "double scoop" at Castaway Cay, we had a "Scoopie" doll that went and visited families all over the country. Then people would report back in and show pictures of what Scoopie was up to at their house. Maybe as we get some more people we should start that up!!!
Here's some pictures of Scoopie when he was at my house:

We always do door decorations and depending on the group sometimes other members of the group add to our doors. Usually the result of jokes that were played on each other over the year or more we got to know each other. Since many of us had been on the 2004 10 day cruise together we had been chatting for close to 3 years by the time we sailed in May of '06.
I will say one thing at this point - the cruise groups we've been part of have let to some wonderful friendships. We've laughed together, we've cried together, we've become family. Still with each new group we've found new friends and I'm hoping the same is true here. Really looking forward to getting to know everyone on our way to sailing together in 2008.

Ohiominnie - my dd has been chatting already with yours. I'll have my dd pm yours with her email address.
Jen
did you notice my dd is already arranging a DIS meet with your dd? we're heading to CA in September for my dh's podcast expo. We plan to do Disneyland (we've never been) and some things in San Diego. I swear we aren't crazy psychos, so maybe by then you'd be up for a meet if you are anywhere close. :)

Hi,
Club 33 is a private club in Disneyland by Pirates. There is a unmarked door by the ride that is only marked with "33". You lift the "33" and ring the bell. Google Club 33 at Disneyland and you'll learn all about it. We are not members but my husband has a connection.
Maybe we'll go to Disneyland in September or meet up with you around there. We live in Nothern Los Angeles County so it would only take us 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours to get there :sad2: (but everything takes that long).
I'm off to play Bunco at 7:30 so I'll be gone soon.

holy cow!!! I go to work, mall, dinner and come home and this thread has grown 3 whole pages. We have been invaded by the blabbermouth! I confess that I sometimes peeked at your thread, because the sheer amount of pages got me curious! You all sound like a fun bunch of people and I am happy some of you are going to be on this cruise!
This is our first ever cruise! I have been begging and pleading with my DH for YEARS to go on a Disney cruise but he just rolled his eyes at me. I guess he hoped that I would eventually give up but no such luck, so he finally gave it!
Showed my DS the kids thread, and he's trying to think of a username as we speak. He's never done this before (message board) so it's new to him! But it would be great if he could meet some people. He'll be 12 when we cruise, his birthday is in November! His name is Josh. I will let him introduce himself over there!
Anyway, my name is Heike, it's German, and those who can't pronounce it (it's like Hi-Kay), they just call me Kay ;) My birthday is April 25th, and the cruise is my best birthday present EVER! I am actually looking forward to turning 34 now! I work part time as an elementary school clerk and love my job!
My DH is Alan, he'll be 36. He's self employed and a workaholic, but hey, someone's gotta pay for my shopping sprees, right? Hey, he knew before he married me that I was a shopaholic!
Kaylee will be 8 in 2008. She is pretty shy at first, when she meets new people, but once she gets to know people, she won't shut up. Kinda like me ;)
Looking forward to getting to know you all...and btw, I love the idea of the buttons! I feel like we're cruising with royalty or something!

Yes, that WDWLVR, once you get her started she just can't stop posting! :lmao:
It took us a long time to try out a cruise. I get pretty motion sick on rides and on my dad's boat (haven't been on it in years b/c I got sick of the same cycle "take dramamine, throw up, fall asleep on the bench, get sunburned." :sad2: Once we went on a Disney cruise though we were HOOKED. Dare I say we've been on 8 so far! Of course, some of those were 3 and 4 days. One was a 10 day (heaven) 'cept they had the nerve to kick me off on my birthday. :sad2:
A little about us..
I'm Karen, I've turned 39 for the first time. It was such a great experience that I think I'll do it several more times. :) I'm a nurse by training but don't ask me anything b/c I haven't had a "real" job in about 10 years! My nursing license is actually inactive now. :) In my spare time (that's when I'm not DIS-ing) I sometimes cook and clean. :) Hobby wise, I like to cross stitch. I have scrapbooked, but I hate the whole hauling it all out to use it then putting it away. I really need somewhere to keep it all out. I'm sure ya'll will find out a lot more about me (whether I like it or not) in the next 15 months. :)
Dh is Mike. He gets to turn 39 on groundhog's day! He's a pediatrician in a practice with 6 docs. Which is why I don't have to remember any of my nursing information cuz I can just ask him if I have a question! :sad2: He will be available to diagnose bug bites and croup on the cruise. ;) Besides his busy practice, he writes a blog and does a weekly podcast about pediatric topics (he talks about stuff or answers listeners email questions.) The thing has grown by leaps and bounds in the six or so months since he's been doing it! Right now he has about 7000 listeners every month and is one of the "featured" podcasts on iTunes! :) So between work, blog and podcast he's pretty darn busy. You won't see him on here much.....unless you read Mouse Matters.....he's the dude who writes that.
I'll write about the kids later.....Mike needs my computer for something. :)

Announcing the web page for this wonderful group! Now just a few things to consider.
One, you will see that at the top it says "Insert Clever Name Here". What do we want to call our group. For our May '06 cruise it was the Double Scoop cruise and we called ourselves the Blabbermouths. What do we want to be known as?
Second, if you want to be included in the gallery drop me an e-mail at marygums@monorailgreen.info Please put April 08 in the subject as I'm doing this for another cruise group as well. Here is the info I like to collect for the group
Name (include you DIS name as well as real name) for everyone in your party.
Birthdays & kids ages (please see that if a child is close to another age they can be listed like KT as a14 for almost 14). Yikes! KT is going to be a teenager on this cruise!
Anniversary date.
Cabin number (if you don't want it on the website or in the DIS navigator that's fine just let me know but we have to have it or we won't make you a button).
Dining - main or late?
Picture - I prefer .jpg Don't send a huge one. 640 x 480 works best. I'll resize down to the thumbnails.
How many buttons you want? They are free so I suggest getting them for everyone in the family. Someone often says that they don't need them for the kids and my reply is that will the kids feel left out at sailing if all the other kids have them.
Do you want a copy of the DIS navigator? yes or no
Why we do this? We started doing buttons on the 2003 Member Cruise. It was a way for fellow DISers to get to know each other. As I said they are free we do ask that you were them around the ship as a way to recognize each other. We started the DIS navigator as a way for everyone to find each other on the ship. That way if the kids want to get toghether to go to the pool or the movies they have their friends name and room numbers.
So there you have it. Feedback is always welcome.

You bring up a great point. Would you mind keeping the first post updated with info for new cruisers. A link to the teen thread is great and if you can also put a link to the website that would be good too. Then if we plan other things like t-shirts etc. we can put that info up as well.

Was thinking about a name for our group too, but I am not very good at this kind of stuff. It's the last Eastern before the West Coast, so maybe that's something to think about? I am sure someone else can come up with something good!
We also may want to wait a bit and see where the dynamics of the group take us. :) :confused3

Winter weather advisory here. Our area is turning into wimps. The snow is ending and I can still see the tips of the grass. So what's that 1/2 an inch of snow and we have a winter weather advisory?? :sad2:
Advisory or not, we have to go out. Nick has Wizard of Oz rehearsals today. The place is about 40 minutes away and his rehearsal is a whopping 1 hour long today. :sad2:
Plus we have to drop Mike's truck off at Toyota so they can give it an overhaul tomorrow. It needs one of everything including tires. :scared1: At least the office covers it. It comes out of his "profits" so it's less money he can bring home, but hey, at least I don't have to see the bill!!! :) Takes some sting out when I don't actually SEE the money going out the window.
Would like to go back to the Apple store too. Wanna take back what I bought yesterday. I thought it would solve all of my problems with having a laptop and not having a keypad to enter budget stuff and Quicken figures. But it doesn't work when you're running Parallels in Mac. Oops. :rolleyes1

Hi all! I just got out of bed about 15 minutes ago! We all like to sleep in on Sundays! Kaylee woke up before me, but came to my bed and just watched TV for an hour! It's windy here today! I have to go and meet up with some other moms from Josh's cub scout den at 3pm. We are making shadow boxes for them since they are "bridging" to boy scouts on Feb. 2nd!
I am really ashamed to say that some of my Christmas stuff is still out, I hope to get it all put away by the time I go! Not too much anymore and at least both the trees and the villages are taken down. Just little stuff here and there!
Jen, hope your DD is feeling better. Poor thing! Last week, I had so many kids come into the office because they were sick and had to be picked up. It's going around, that's for sure!
Mary, I love to scrapbook too, but I am soooo far behind now! I haven't even touched anything since we moved in July!! :scared1: Last thing I did was Halloween of 2005! With my new work schedule I am off Thursdays and Fridays for the most part (if I don't work for someone else), so I hope that at least one of those two days I can get caught up while the kids are at school!
Yikes, Kaylee just came inside with a friend, and I am still in my pajamas!! Better go!

Kay your son will love boy scouts i was one in the early 70's had everything done for my eagle scout but have my service project approved and 4 years at summer camp swam the mile each time still have the badges to prove it bet they do not have Klondike derbys there. we tried scrapbooking for the first time for our June western Magic cruise found we did not take enough photos we are already starting a list of things to take photos of . Just hoping now I do not get the phone call at 4am to come in and plow snow and clean walks befor school can open.. has anyone given thought to excursions yet Ive got the 12 meter regatta picked out Eileen wants to do the spa.

Kay have you ever done a circle journal? I did my first one for the 2005 DVC Member Cruise. We had 7 of us in the circle and exchanged them back the day before the 2006 Member Cruise. For the 2006 cruise we have 23 people doing it and I won't get mine back until May of 2008! I'll be back from this cruise before I get it!
Mike - funny you should mention snow because my DH Mark just left to go check the plant he works at and to see if it needs to be plowed or just salted.
Haven't thought much about excursions yet. Mark said he'd like to go back to Coral World in St. Thomas and try Snuba this time. We did Sea Trekkin the last time we were there in December 2004.
dreamcometrue
01-21-2007, 04:54 PM
well, of course I have thought about excursions! I am obsessive compulsive planner!!
Have any of you been on the Eastern and done the dolphin encounter in St. Maarten? I have always wanted to do something like that, and yes, we could do it at Sea World, but it just wouldn't be the same. It's pretty expensive for our family of 4, but I see it as a once in a lifetime thing. I have to see how much we were able to save for excursions when the time comes! If we do this, we will probably just do the Skyride to Paradise Point in St. Thomas, and rent floats at Castaway Cay. Josh really wants to do parasailing at CC though, so we'll see. I don't think we can do both the parasailing and dolphin encounter. Kaylee will probably not be interested in the parasailing, so maybe I'll do the dolphins with her and the boys can do parasailing!
Mike, Josh is really excited about boy scouts. The troop we picked does some really neat things. They are going to summer camp at Catalina Island off the coast here in Southern California. I am not sure if we missed the deadline for that, but it's a 1 week overnight camp, away from home...not sure if he'd get homesick! He *is* going to outdoor science camp in Santa Barbara with his school in March for 3 nights, so we'll see how he does being away from home! They are NOT allowed to call home either!

Actually only 3 of them are still kittens, they are about 4 months old, we had them fixed before we brought them to the farm I didn't want any additional kittens. We started with Snickers (the mother) she had two kittens last year (rascal & smudgie) and three this year (mittens, gizmo & gremlin), but NO MORE she also was FIXED - (if she had had another litter of kittens she would have been broken)

I guess it is good that they ensure you get him fixed and provide the proper care! But it's hard to wait! Try waiting 5 weeks for a Golden Retriever puppy, or even longer. Our first one, we had to wait 5 weeks, the 2nd one we knew when the female was in heat, then we had to wait to get the pregnancy confirmed, waited through the whole pregnancy and then for 8 weeks after the pups were born. It was torture!!!

what kind of a question is THAT??? Aren't all kittens cute?
A few weeks ago, Josh went outside and found a kitty sitting on our doorstep! About 6 months old, all grey. So cute! I fed it and gave it water and the poor thing was totally starved! Of course, he never left! Well, my DH says we can't keep him, so at first, we just kept him on our front porch, he didn't go anywhere! Kids made him a bed and we fed him every day! I was hoping Alan would change his mind, but no. And honestly, it wouldn't be fair to our other pets. We have one cat and she wants to be an only cat. After my MIL passed away we took her cat in and our cat started peeing all over the place because she was so mad. We thought it would just be a phase and pass, but it never did, so we had to give my MIL's cat to my SIL. At least he stayed in the family! Our cat has been happy ever since! So it really wouldn't be fair to bring another cat in!
Anyway, a friend of mine does pet rescue/adoption, and I called her. She picked him up to get him fixed, get him shots, etc. But then she called and said we'd have to foster him until she can take him to pet adoptions. So he's been living in our downstairs bathroom since Wednesday! *sigh* We let him out every now and then, my other cat is upstairs. For some reason, she will not leave the master bedroom since we have moved in this house in July. It's a huge master bedroom/bathroom, so she has plenty of space! The pet adoptions didn't happen this weekend, so we'll have to keep him for another week! It's hard because the kids get more and more attached to him (and so do I!!)

what kind of a question is THAT??? Aren't all kittens cute?
um. no. we saw a few today at the shelter that were....(shudder)..not so cute. not a fan of the "tortoise" coloring. but yes, most of them were adorable.
We have one cat and she wants to be an only cat. After my MIL passed away we took her cat in and our cat started peeing all over the place because she was so mad. We thought it would just be a phase and pass, but it never did, so we had to give my MIL's cat to my SIL.
oh, I really don't wanna hear that. dd is afraid that a new cat will change the behaviors of our existing indoor cat. we've put off getting another cat b/c dh and i did have a cat once that seemed "lonely" so we got another. cat #1 went from sleeping with us every night and being social, to being rather withdrawn. luckily no litter box issues!!
so we are worried that this will change the cat we have, although he's a very social cat and seems to like our outdoor cat (we live on a couple of acres and this cat just LOVES being outside) he gets along with my parent's dog when she comes to visit.
argh. :confused3
of course, this kitten will be introduced into the family the "right" way. we just dumped cat 2 in front of cat 1 the last time and maybe that's why there were issues.

try to repeat THAT recipe!!! :)

hmmm...that's what we did...dump one in front of the other! Maybe that's why she hated that one! So, what would be the right way to introduce them? I haven't introduced the one that just showed up at our front step to our other cat, since she's only upstairs!

Well, I first heard of it on the DIS when someone found a new kitten and many smart DISers explained how to introduce it to the existing cat. And then today at the shelter we picked up a pamphlet about how to introduce the new kitten to older cats.
Basically you close the kitten up in a room of it's own with it's own food and water and not give it the roam of the house. This makes the new kitten not feel threatened by a territorial cat and makes the older cat not feel like a new intruder has arrived. Then the shelter pamphlet describes how you should (after a little while) start feeding both cats on opposite sides of the door ....both right up against the door. Then give the new kitten the old kitten's bed or rug, and vice versa for the old cat. Then, using two doorstops, open the door just enough so they can see each other and touch noses, but not get at each other.
So a slow and gradual introduction to each other.
Plus, yippie, they each get their own litterbox (we didn't do that last time either)
Hey, found this on the web and it looks like our shelter is using basically this information from the main humane society page:

ok, thanks! Still not sure if we're going to keep the one that showed up here, DH still says NO, but maybe I can gently introduce the two cats and see what the existing one will do!

How was the day of cooking? What kinda things did you make? Learning to cook from my mom is an adventure....."put in some of this until it looks right......some of this until it tastes right.....some of this until it's thick enough....."
try to repeat THAT recipe!!! :)
The only Norweigan foods I know can be found at Epoct in the bakery.....chocolate cake, pretzels with raisins and glaze and almonds, coca-cola. ;)
Good morning,
There were about 30 realatives at my Aunt's house and my dad taught everyone to make Lefsa. Lefsa is a potato tortilla. On the farm they had potatoes but no yeast so they made a Norwegian flatbread. After you cook the lefsa, you put "oleo" (as my dad would say) and sugar and they are actually quite good.
He also makes krunkukles (sp?) a crisp cookie, but we didn't have time. It was really touching that so many people came to carry on "Uncle Andy's " tradation. My dad is 77 and not in the best health so this was great.
When he rests and recovers from teaching everyone how to make lefsa, he's going to teach my girls to make crepes. (I really dislike cooking ...so the girls learn from my parents).
Got to get the littelest one ready for school.

That sounded like it was a pretty fun day. :) The older generations have so much to teach if we just take the time to listen. :)
I make crepes at least once a week! :) Whenever dh is on call during the week he has to stay at the office until he's done seeing patients (this time of year it means 9:30-10pm) No point in me making a big complex dinner for myself and the kids, so I make crepes and we fill them with whatever we want. I like butter, jam, and Reddi-whip. :) Dd likes butter and syrup (she cuts hers up) or butter, Reddi-whip, honey, and cinnamon sugar. Ds likes his with butter, Reddi-whip and Nerds. ;) :rotfl2:
Of course, I probably cheat....I use one of these:

Hi,
I think you do "cheat", however I admire you for making them. When we learn we'll "cheat" too. I know my dad uses soda water and this old pan that he's had forever. Usually we buy crepes at the mall.
Middle dd stayed home today. She's better, but she says she has stomach cramps. I'm a germapho so I have disinfected the whole house.

that's wonderful, Jen! My mother does not like to cook either, and everything I know I have learned from my grandma. I will always treasure the times I have spent with her in the kitchen. I just watched her when I was little and then as I got bigger, she let me help her more and more! I have learned a lot from her, both cooking and baking! She has passed away now but that is something I will always remember! We always had the best talks too while we were cooking! I miss her! :sad1:

Hubby is sick with something stomach related, but went to work anyway. Now he's calling me all the time, telling me how horrible he's feeling!! :sad2: I am not sympathetic. Told him if he wasn't feeling well to come home and stop calling me!
Hope your DD will be better by tomorrow! After my kids heard that dad wasn't feeling well, they tried to fake being sick too, so they wouldn't have to go to school. They felt fine before he called! :rolleyes1 Needless to say, they are both at school!

So far today my kids have finagled (sp) a snow day. You guys haven't learned this about us yet.....we homeschool. The kids have been outside all morning playing in the snow, making a snowman, and shovelling the driveway. It's not often we get a decent amount of snow around here, so I'm letting them go for it. Of course, their dad will get home at 1pm today and ask "did you get your school done yet?" uh....no. :lmao:

Member Gallery Update!
I'm happy to announce that we've had some additions to our photo gallery.
Karen (ohiominnie) sent in a new picture of her family.
Fi (floridahippy) sent in info and a picture of her and DH Pete.
Heike (dreamcometrue) sent in info for her family and is looking for a picture.
Fi - I'm really bad with names and faces as well that is one of the reasons we do the gallery and buttons. Another suggestion for everyone is that if your signature doesn't already have your first name in it that might help. That way as we correspond we can use first names and really get to know each other. After all once we are on the ship I'd much rather hear "Hi Mary" than "Hi WDWLVR".
Jen - I think it is wonderful that you all had a cooking class. Passing on family traditions and something that is often lost in this day and age.

Hi!! Nice to meet you! This is our first Disney cruise too! I am glad I am no longer the only cruise-virgin on this thread! :rotfl: I am kind of shy too at first. But once I get to know people, I won't shut up! :rotfl2:

Hi,
When we went on the Western cruise this past March, we were in Parrot Cay on formal night. My husband was in a tux and I would have liked to have been in Lumiere's or even Animator's.
What night is formal night on the Eastern? My TA's husband passed away about 2 weeks ago so I won't call her for a couple of weeks to request the dining rotation.
Thanks,
Jen

YIPPIE! Someone from the UK! My dd will LOVE to meet you!!! She's 12 and somehow or another she has perfected a British accent!! (see, it IS good if you let your kids watch too much TV!) :rotfl2:
Anyway, true story, we went on a cruise once and KT decided to talk with her accent the first day. She had everyone going....INCLUDING one of the kid's club counselors who was FROM the UK. When they asked where KT was from, she honestly said "London." Ok, so she didn't offer that it was London, Ohio!!! Anyway...the whole first night she talked like a Brit. Then she felt kinda bad for deceiving everyone so the next day she went in and explained that she wasn't really from London, and the British accent was just something she picked up. Guess what....THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE HER NEW STORY!!! They said "you're from the UK" and "you just learned a Midwest accent!!" :lmao:

Sounds like me. I have a terrible memory for things like that. The buttons and photo gallery REALLY help me! :) Once you cruise with Mark and Mary, you'll never want to cruise without them again. What we've done on other cruises is figure out when formal night is and figure out when pirate night will be. Then someone calls someone at DCL who can help us and we link ALL of our ressies together along with requests for tablemates. So we've ended up with an entire section of the restaurants being DISers!! What did we take up the last time, Mary, about 1/5 of the dining room? And that was just us Main dining ppl!!!

No tastings for us. Not sure what we'll do this time. Depends on the airline regulations at the time. My dad makes really good wine, so for the Blabbermouth cruise we brought on about 5 bottles of wine. We asked our room steward to make sure we had two wine glasses every day (instead he brought about 25 the first day!) and we'd open the wine, have some before dinner and then have some later in the evening. MUCH cheaper that way!!!

didn't get a whole lot done here today. kids took the morning for a snow day. whenever we get a late start with school it doesn't go as well. better to get them when they are fresh. :) then dh got the news that not only are his tires shot (we knew that) but his back brakes were shot, and there is some sensor thing going on. Add to that his 90,000 mile maintenance....:scared1: I'm loving that he pays for car expenses through the office!!! bad news to that is dd will have to miss play rehearsal tomorrow evening b/c Mike will need my car for work.
also....after much talking and discussing, the whole family has decided that we REALLY love our cat....
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/ohiominnie/IMG_1707.jpg
and we're all really worried that getting another kitty will change his personality for the worse. today Mowana got lots of extra loving and was very sweet. I contacted the shelter about taking our hold of. Even ds who has a very very tender heart for animals (and cat allergies!) is completely fine with it. I thought there would be tears, but he's been very open about how he doesn't want to "ruin" Mowana. :)
