Thanks for the Pixie Dust...I seem to be the only one stressed here. Chris says it is going to be fine. He doesn't feel that it is anything major and at the most he says it could take a couple days to fix even with ordering parts. He also said worst case scenario is that we leave on Sat Morning...does he know how much stress that is...I waited like 409 days for this vacation I refuse to wait one more day...lol! I am so happy we weren't planning on driving straight to the cruise that would be real stress:rotfl:

Lots of pixie dust that everything is just fine pixiedust: !!! I would be very stressed too but better to find out that there is a problem and have it fixed now instead of finding it when you were on the road!

Good morning everyone. Time for a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Looking for a spot kind of off the beaten path where you can relax, read or maybe listen to some tunes? Well then head on up to deck 9 and the Cove Cafe!

If you are also into specialty coffee drinks this is the place for you as well.

It is adults only and has large woven chairs outside and inside has a collection of big comfy chairs. There is a large screen tv, some games on the tables, I even saw a couple of music listening stations.

There is also a case inside that has yummy pastries during the day and some cheese and crackers in the evening.

If anyone is a smoker there are ashtrays available for use at the outside tables. For those of you who aren't smokers I would avoid the area in the evening. It seems to be a popular area for cigar smokers.

Mary (or anyone else) do you have any idea what time in the morning the cove cafe opens? I fantasize about going up there in the morning by myself and having a quiet cup of coffee before everyone else wakes up!

There is always a rental---worst case scenerio.

Just wanted to say "hi" and see if I'm the only one who hasn't started packing yet? The packing will begin this weekend...otherwise I might need something that I would have to end up digging out of the suitcase!

We haven't started packing. At all. This weekend is laundry (to fluff up all the stuff that's been crammed away so long). THEN we can start thinking about packing.

I do have my lists out, and we could start gathering things like goggles and LRC, and sunscreen. But we've had SO much going on lately we just haven't had time.

There is smoking on this ship? I thought it was non-smoking :(

The coffee costs money but the pastries do not?

You said there is outside seating, but children cannot sit with you?

Welcome!

1) Yep, there are designated smoking areas, one of them is the area outside the Cove Cafe on Deck 9. Don't smoke, so not too sure where the others are, but there arn't too many and are not too obtrusive.

2) Yes, same as if you were getting a drink at a bar, this is a coffee bar, they make all kinds of coffee-based creations. The pastries are in a nice display case next to the bar. If you're looking for just straight-up coffee or tea, there's a free drink station near the buffet on the other end of Deck 9 that has those along with the soft drinks.

3) Directly outside Cove Cafe? Nope, it's in the adult-only section of Deck 9, but there's plenty of seating a few steps away on the other side of the screened dividers that separate the adult area, or up on Deck 10.

Welcome aboard! Is this your first cruise? If so you should know there are some areas of the ship that children aren't allowed in. The Quiet Cove pool is for adults only as is the Cove Cafe. Also on the island Serenity Bay is for adults only. Disney is definately about families but I think one of the things they do best is keep the adults only areas just for adults.

Oh, it is. :) Just that subtle hot that you don't get till you're about halfway thru, and wasn't really expecting it.

There's a huge grocery store near us that is totally asian called Super H mart (http://www.hmart.com/index.asp). I don't get into the cooking from scratch part too much, as normally after a workday I don't want to fuss with all that, which is too bad as they have a fantastic meat and seafood deli. But they have a lot of interesting prepackaged things, and noodle bowls are a.. prolific item there to say the least. Usually they have some kind of 'hot' indicator on the packaging, but this one has very little words of any kind in poorly translated english so I really didn't have any idea how strong it'd be.

I guess, as usual my joke went over THAT well. To get it, you have to have seen the movie The Fifth Element with Bruce Willis, when Chris Tucker was trying to get soundbites for that live radio show thing he was supposedly doing.

The lunch buffet every day has a different theme, and the dinners have some ethnicity to them too! :)

Today’s temperatures -- highs and lows -- are on record pace.

If you wondered if the cold weather this morning set a record, well, close — the 47 degrees today tied the record low set on this day in 2004, according to meteorologist Matt Bragaw of the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

What’s more, the high today could tie the record for the lowest high temperature set in 1950 — 68 degrees, Bragaw said. The high today is forecast to reach the upper 60s, so we’ll see.

On Wednesday, Brevard County can look for the high to be in the mid-70s, which still would be lower than normal for this time of year, and a low in the mid- to upper 40s, Bragaw said.

Things will seem back to normal on Thursday, as the temperature is expected to reach the mid-70s, and then climb into the 80s on Friday. The lows for Friday and Saturday will be in the upper 50s, Bragaw said.

Good morning everyone. Time for another Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip(s) Of The Day

This is the one I usually do last but with some people leaving up to a week early I thought I would do it now. It is a collection of little tips that may help with any last minute packing. Things you may want to bring depending on your own tastes.

Shampoo, conditioner and body butter are in your bathroom in small tubes (just under 3 oz.) They are by H2O+ and are very nice. You may or may not want to bring your own favorite brand.

Both the tissue and toilet paper on board is not of the highest quality as far as softness. Again you may want to bring a favorite brand if that is important to you. If you do however I would suggest using the TP sparingly - remember that you are on a ship and it has to break down faster and better than what is used on land.

There are not a lot of outlets in the room so some people like brining an extension cord to plug things in.

If you need a hair dryer with lots of power it is suggested you bring your own as some people don't like the ones onboard.

If you like to know what time it is at night you might want to pack a small travel alarm clock. The one we bring lights up by pushing a button and gives a little extra light.

Don't forget some singles for room service and quarters if you want to do laundry.

Most of all don't forget your important documents and id's.

Last but not least - bring a sense of adventure and prepare to have an amazing time.

American Idol Report, from another website:

I love when people come together to make something special happen for someone else.

According to reports, David Cook’s brother, Adam, was in attendance last night and will be tonight. David’s brother recently suffered the setback of a second diagnosis of brain cancer. He is undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and as much as he has wanted to fly out to California to support his brother, his health has simply precluded that from happening. Doctors have said he is too ill to travel commercially.

Enter family, friends, and big hearted businesses...

Adam and his wife, Kendra, flew Sunday to California, accompanied by medical personnel – the private charter jet, medic, and nurse all paid for by Clarion Health of Indianapolis.

They are staying at a hotel directly across from where Idol tapes – the cost being absorbed by B102.7 radio station in Terre Haute.

Laughter may indeed be one of life’s best medicines, but so, too, is the presence of those we love.

Kendra has said, "The excitement of seeing his spirits lifted so high has been wonderful."

THIS is what I mean when I tell my kids that the good people of the world still outnumber the bad. THIS type of outpouring, support, and willingness to step in to make this extraordinary trip possible is the heartwarming, human, beautiful kind of story that typically gets drowned out by the constant political pissing contests, war reports, and terrorist alerts in which we have become so mired.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Cook family as they continue to support Adam in his fight to beat his cancer back into remission. And my thanks are with everyone who has made David’s and Adam’s reunion possible. You done good. Not just for them, but for every decent person who stumbles into the potholes of doubt about just what this world is coming to.

There is a change machine in the laundry room but I've heard that it is sometimes broken. You can of course get change and bills broken at guest services as well. I just like to come prepared. So I'll have some dollar bills for room service (not that we use it that often), some quarters in one case for the laundry, and of course my dimes in another case for LRC!

LRC stands for Left Right Center. It is a dice game that we've played with our friends from Ohio on past cruises. We're bringing our dice and our dimes this time as well and anyone from the group is welcome to join in a game. We don't have planned times it is more of a spur of the moment thing.

I've seen on some of the other forums that people bring liquor with them when they first board the ship. What is Disney's policy about that? Is it allowed, and could it be brought on packed in a suitcase? Don't want to break the rules, that's why I'm checking first.......

Since we are driving to Cape Canaveral from Montz, LA., we are leaving next Thursday, for a 2-day leisurely drive (we could make it in 12-14 hours straight if necessary). That will be my DH Bill's 70th birthday. Even though we will "celebrate" it on the road, I hope to have a better party onboard! Can't wait to meet y'all.....

Be sure to catch at least one of the IMAX movies. I haven't seen the Space Station Movie but we all enjoyed “Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D” – narrated by Tom Hanks.

Travel time from the KSC Visitor Center to the port is about 25 minutes.

Oh and another question about transfers. I booked my flights separately from the cruise line, ie did it on my own. Disney has all the information re flights since we are getting transfers through them but I just changed my flights to a day earlier. We are staying at the airport Hyatt the night before the cruise leaves. Do I need to let Disney Cruise Line know or should I just show up the next day at the airport to be transfered to the ship? Or will Disney be notified of the change in flights? Thanks

Ok here is the big van update....
Just got back from the dealer, the power steering pump is broken as is the steering column. I am so happy we brought it. He said we could drive with them broken (we have been anyway) but we are 1500 miles away from being out of warranty. If we waited to get back to fix it we would have been out some big bucks. They have all the parts in they need and I should be able to pick it up tomorrow night. Thanks for all the Pixie Dust it really worked.

I'm going to assume you're plugging them into a USB port on the computer. You need to go to a local electronics store and find something like this: USB charger (http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?&langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&productId=201502&cmArea=SC3:CG75:DP803:CL162053)

You'll also need to pack a short extension cord as the plugs in the cabin are by the desk and are too close to the desktop to plug in those cube-type power packs.

I believe my DW is bringing some tequila. :faint: I'm not sure, but I don't believe they want you putting bottles in your suitcase - that is, carry-ons are okay.

You believe correctly! :thumbsup2

Here's what's confusing.
If you read the cruise docs it says no beverages brought onboard.

However:
In actual policy no beverages in the checked luggage is the rule they enforce now. I'd guess they've had too many messy incidents in getting the checked luggage up to the cabins. You're free to carryon whatever you like as long as it's sealed and no ice, as they will be putting the bag it's in thru an airport scanner.

Hello Everyone! I'm a late joiner :surfweb: .

I (Tasha) will be travelling with my husband (Mike) and In-Laws (Linda & Wayne). I can't believe the cruise is almost here :woohoo: .

Question for you...Last time I cruised, I use the patch behind the ear to avoid sea sickness however it did funny things to my eyes so I wanted to try something different. I'm from Canada and unfortunately all our motion sickness meds make you drowsy. Is there medication in the States that I can buy that won't make me drowsy? I don't want to spend the cruise sleepin' .

Hm... the big consensus from the main forum has always been Bonine, but I do think it's one of those sleepy things and I also think you need a prescription.

Now, my question which may be redundant, are you doing this as a preventative against the unknown or do you have a history of seasickness? The reason I say this is if it's in the unknown category, you may be just fine. Even motion sickness doesn't guarantee seasickness. I get really motion sick in those virtual motion simulators, can't ride most of the coasters at WDW, and even if I'm reading while in a moving car I'll start feeling green. However, being on the ship, even when it's really moving(which is rare) I'm fine. I know that's no guarantee, everyone is different, and you should do what you feel is best, just giving a little advice. :)

we stocked up on Bonine since I have no idea if any of us will get sea sick. I heard that Bonine is non-drowsy whereas Dramamine can make you drowsy. I am hoping we won't need it.

I get horribly sick on small boats on Lake Erie. I don't ride many roller coasters. And I tend to get car sick unless I'm driving.

We ALWAYS take Bonine (one in the morning, one at dinner) just in case. Maybe we don't need it. I dunno. But I'm afraid to not have it. It doesn't really make us drowsy at all taking it one in the am, one in the pm. I mean, sure, I'll fall asleep in a lounge chair on deck 9, but I DON'T think that's because of the Bonine! :lmao:

And it is OTC. You'll find it by the Dramamine.

There was one time I did get a little seasick, but we had 20 foot waves and there were barf bags in every bathroom, so I don't think it was the Bonine not working. ;)

Cool, UTOP!

I get seasick if I just look at the ocean... Ok, not quite THAT bad.

We just sailed on May 27 and had rather rough seas the first day (10 to 12 feet swells). I didn't get dizzy, nauseous, nothing. :cool1:! However, I witnessed others who did get sea sick.

Here is what I did:
1) I wore a patch; applied behind the ear at 11:30am the first sail day.
2) I ate a non-greasy breakfast. Nothing heavy; just oatmeal, banana, and
toast. No sausage or bacon or pancakes/syrup. No eggs.
3) I drank coffee first thing when I woke up. :coffee: (see #5 below).
- Coffee is a diuretic. I drank it so I wouldn't get the caffeine headache.
4) I took 500mg ginger root capsules (the nite before the cruise, the morning and afternoon of day one). Eat something with these!
5) I drank a TON of water before we set sail. I was milking water like there was no tomorrow. One hand always had a water bottle. No joke, I drank at least 3 full water bottles worth before we set sail. And yes, I did have to P a lot. :scared:
6) Upon boarding, we hit the buffet. I didn't eat anything too spicy/heavy. Again, I ate more bread/butter.
7) I stayed away from any alcohol the first day.

I'm not exactly sure which of the above contributed the most to my safe journey. Perhaps a combination of some things.

Good luck. I hope this helps. :teacher:

Repeating my post.

Thank you for very for the welcome wishes & suggestions!

On my first cruise I spent the first night feeling yucky and missing dinner, on the second one I wore the patch for 2 days then took it off and felt fine. So just in case I wanted to have something for the first day at least. No need to spend your cruise being sick if you don't have too ;) .

I'll pick up some ginger tablets & bonine this time, thanks again!

Good morning everyone - time for another Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Today's tip comes from Karen (ohiominnie) who writes:

If you have linked dining with some other family and are expecting to be at the same table...find them in the terminal and verify that ALL of your KTTW cards have the same dining rotation and, very important, the same table number!

On the 10 day, we didn't look and when we were walking down to dinner we looked at our cards...we were table 25....my parents were table 41 (or something) OOPS!! We went to the check in desk and they were able to get us all at table 41 without a problem, but for a few moments we thought we'd be eating dinner far from my parents!

Thanks Karen - great tip. Remember that if you aren't at the same table you can go to one of the clubs and ask for changes. You should get a paper at check-in which tells you where to go.

We're another Canadian family!!:thumbsup2 We bought some GRAVOL chewables for the kids and some adult GRAVOL for us as well! Last year when we cruised the Disney Magic Western we brought the Gravol for everyone and the only one who ended up taking 1 pill the whole week was my DD. By the way...the Gravol worked for her in 20 minutes, with NO drowsiness!
I heard about the ginger pills, but not sure if they're good for the kids!?!:confused3

LOL - I seem to be the only one in the family who experiences motion sickness. Mind you, I can ride a roller coaster but I can't ride anything that spins or those inside simulators.

So I bought the ginger pills that you swallow for myself. Nobody else in the family will be taking these. Maybe someone else has a suggestion for getting some ginger for kids (e.g., ginger ale, ginger cookies, etc.)

From another website:

Motion Sickness

Several studies suggest that ginger may be more effective than placebo in reducing symptoms associated with motion sickness. In one trial of 80 novice sailors (prone to motion sickness), those who took powdered ginger experienced a significant reduction in vomiting and cold sweating compared to those who took placebo. Similar results were found in a study with healthy volunteers. While these results are promising, other studies suggest that ginger is not as effective as medications in reducing symptoms associated with motion sickness. In a small study of volunteers who were given ginger (fresh root and powder form), scopolamine (a medication commonly prescribed for motion sickness), or placebo - those receiving the medication experienced significantly fewer symptoms compared to those who received ginger.

Conventional prescription and non-prescription medicines that decrease nausea may also cause unwanted side effects, such as dry mouth and drowsiness. Given the safety of ginger, many people find it a welcome alternative to these medications to relieve their motion sickness.

What time is boarding? And, when we board will our rooms be ready or do we have to wait a bit?

The port opens at 10:30. Upon entry to the terminal building you will be given a group number. Boarding will happen somewhere around noon, as soon as the port authority has cleared the ship to do so. At this time they will start calling group numbers, it really moves along smoothly. Staterooms will be available starting at I believe 1pm(might be 2-I'm not entirely sure), all access to the stateroom areas is roped off until then.

Announcement from Passporter -

The Disney Cruise Line has joined several other major lines by announcing updated smoking regulations for its ships. Starting Saturday, April 19 on the Wonder, and Sunday, April 20 on the Magic, the new policy extends the no-smoking policy to every indoor area, including the clubs in the adult entertainment districts on Deck 3 forward (Diversions, Cadillac Lounge, Beat Street, etc.). Smoking is still allowed on guests' private verandahs. The outdoor smoking areas have been moved from port to starboard. Those are the deck 4 promenade, and outdoor areas on decks 9 and 10. The comfy smoking area immediately outside the entrance to the Cove Cafe on Deck 9 forward has been moved to the opposite side of the deck, as it was on the port side. As always, smoking is not allowed anywhere near the Mickey Pool.

Please allow me to give friendly advice to all those visiting WDW prior to the cruise. I really just want to maximize everyone's vacation.

EPCOT stands for Every Parent Comes Out Tired.

This really applies to all the parks.

Take your time, keep up your energy, and listen to your kids. They will tell you when they are tired (and it usually isn't polite  ). I've literally had to carry my kids to the car. :scared: Remember that there is nothing wrong with just picking a shady spot and hanging out for a while; or choose an indoor show that will allow you to sit in the A/C for a while.

I've seen the look of exhaustion on people's faces after a day at the parks. That look is burned into my memory. I've also seen the stress - especially after waiting in line in the hot sun for hours. Remember my recent post about the lady who is facing many years in jail for starting a fight with someone who she thought was breaking in line.

The best time to go to the parks, if you can manage, is when the park opens. If possible, get there as close to opening as possible. It is cool outside in the morning and the lines are short. Then, by the time it starts getting busy it is time for lunch. That's a good time to relax in the A/C. After lunch you won't mind standing in line because your stomach will be full. Anyhow, that game plan works well for us. If you can't get to the parks early, just set your expectations accordingly - that is, you won't be jumping on anything quick.

I hope this doesn't come across as preachy. But, we've had annual passes to Disney, Sea World, Busch Gardens, and now Universal Studios. I feel obligated to pass along my experience.

Hey Tinkertoo..... a little piece of advice.... there's not that much room for luggage! Supposedly, there's room under the bed, but ours didn't fit. I guess we had some monster suitcases! :confused3 We had suitcases everywhere! 2 in the closet, and 2 at the end of the bed!

Good morning everyone. Time for a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Making a list of who to send a postcard to from Castaway Cay? Don't forget yourself!

A postcard from Castaway Cay is a great addition to your scrapbook and will bring back the memory of the cruise after you get home. Have each member of your party sign their name - the kids will love it!

You'll find a few free postcards in your desk drawer in your room and a wider selection up in the gift shop.

You'll need cash to mail them (one of the few things on the cruise you'll need actual cash for) so don't forget to take some with you on the island.

The post office is right where you get off the ship and there are often characters there posing for photos as well.

One thing to remember - patience. The postcards come on island time - which means it could be a month or more before you get them! But it is worth the wait!

Earthquake rattles Illinois

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake, centered 127 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, shook southern Illinois at 4:36 a.m. (5:36 a.m. ET) Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. People as far north as southern Michigan and as far west as Des Moines, Iowa, reported feeling the quake.

Any crazy cruisers feel this?

Hello from the Warren Family! We are narrowing down on the packing and really appreciate all the great ideas from the board. We are looking forward to meeting everyone at the DIS meet. My DH saw the posting some one did on the parade in St. Maarten (which I took as a good reason to stay on board by the pool). DH decided that this would be a very exciting event to attend. He did some research and even found some kind of local "fair food" event. If anyone is interested in going, I am sure he can tell you all about it at the DIS meet.

Safe travels to everyone heading out!

This is something I have dreamed of and wanted for so long and now it's HERE... we leave in ONE week!! I called the limo company yesterday and moved our pick up time from 6am to 5am. The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation puts high emphasis on its Grand Parade or Senior Carnival Parade, as being one of the most spectacular events of the entire carnival season as per street parades / jump-ups as this showcases the creativity in costume designs and dance from local participants as well as international participants. Carnival's Grand Parade is a unique multi-cultural event that celebrates the traditions of many countries and cultures around the world. The floats are spectacular, the music and costumes lavish and varied. Beautifully designed floats depict rich multi-cultural themes, and often feature performers that excite and entertain the crowds.

Over 12 troupes line the streets each with up to 300 members dancing in fantastic creative carnival costumes, while local musical artistes perform soca and calypso music for the revellers' entertainment as well as the onlookers.

The Grand Parade usually travels along the Bush Road towards Front Street and then to the Walter Nisbeth Road, through the streets of our capital, Philipsburg and culminates at the Carnival Village. Thousands of spectators line the streets and often get little gifts from sponsors of the Grand Parade who display their products as well. The event is covered by local and international mediahouses, where they explain the interpretation of these costumed revellers and participants in the English, Spanish as well as French languages. The Grand Carnival Parade can also be seen on local television as well.

Has anyone mentioned the Carnival in St. Maarten while we are there? If so, it bears repeating.

April 29th is the day of the Grand Parade on St. Maarten, and there will be 5 ships in port that day, including one of the largest cruise ships in the world (Liberty of the Seas). That equals nearly 13,000 cruise passengers mobbing the island. That's not to mention the traffic problems you will have coming back from the other side of the island during the parade.

I think it's going to be an amazing trip, and the parade sounds like a lot of fun. Just be aware of what's going on, so you're not stuck watching your boat pull away while you stand on the dock.

Kay, here is some more information to consider. We were going to rent a jeep to drive around the island, but now I'm having second thoughts. When we get to St. Maarten we're going to make a quick decision whether we can get the jeep back in time (for example, time and route of parade) - but if there is ANY doubt, we'll probably just stick around and watch the parade. The last thing I want is to be stuck on the dock watching the ship pull away. Ugggh - that would suck big time.

Mom and Dad and sis are doing a fishing excursion in St. martin and hubby will probably find a casino. I will be in charge of 2yo Owen so if you see someone going crazy, look for me. Just kidding, looking forward to it but we are still hoping he will get in the club since he is sooo big for 2 and close to 3

It means Pixie Dust for GaRRy

gaRRy is an old friend who's cruised with us in the past. He's a now-retired firefighter, who, after dealing with a very toxic fire(he said the smoke took the paint off the fire truck!), he and others from the co have since had health problems. In his case he's on the donor list for a liver now. So it's just a warm thought for him and others who're in need of a good bit of luck right now.

To add on to what Mark already said. Back on the Blabbermouth thread we would celebrate tops and UTOPS. When Garry got put on the transplant list we started added PDFG to help Garry get to the TOP of the transplant list. On our last cruise two of our members had small gold color PINS that spell out PDFG and gave them to all our DISers. I still have mine on my lanyard. Garry couldn't join us on the cruise but drove down from Michigan to see us all off. A member had a large banner that said "We love you Garry" and we hung it off of the railing on deck 4 and instead of going to the sailaway party we met on deck 4 to wave to Garry. When we passed him we all shouted out how much we loved him. There were a lot of tears that day!

Hi everyone that wanted to hear more about my DH's research on the food stalls that will be open during Carnivale. The area where the food stalls will be is called "Carnival Village." First, here is the general web page for the event: www stmaartencarnival com (you will have to take out the spaces because I could not post the message with the real link since I don't have enough history of posting according to the DISboard)

He printed out the food stall info and I am not sure what site he got if from, but here is what it says: "Carnivale Village is an area two blocks from Front Street that houses more than 100 food booths. Carnival Village is a large open area which is converted to a Mecca of sights, sounds, shows and local culinary treats. In the 'Villiage' more than 100 booths are erected and patrons keep themselves busy preparing mouthwatering dishes like conch and dumplings, Johnny Cakes, barbequed chicken, and a host of spicy soups which are said to all have aphrodisiac qualities." (...which is probably why my husband is taking me there!)

The site also said they take American dollars and it taughted St. Maarten as the "Gastronomic Capital of the Caribbean" with local foods as well as "first class French fare cooked by famous chefs imported from Paris."

I cannot vouch for the safety or cleanliness of this locale...but, I do think my husband printed a map to take and I will ask him to bring it to the DIS meet.

Someone please volunteer to go with my husband so I can eat the nice industrial food on the ship!:worship:

Breakfast and Lunch are open seating on every day except for the Character Breakfast and your last morning. For the Character Breakfast you will be told by your server the night before. For the last day you will get your breakfast time the day before and you will be in the same resturant as you were in the night before.

For all the rest you have the options of eating at Topsiders (buffet) or one of the sit downs with open seating.

There are no set times. I think there are breakfast options as early as about 6/630. Breakfast nearly runs into lunch. Lunch nearly runs into dinner. Places like Pinnochio's (pizza) and Pluto's (burgers/hot dogs/fries) are open most of the day...

Hey, not all of us are yankees! Neener :-p I guess I deserved that after all my Air Conditioner comments.

It's great that we have such a mix of people in our roll call. Folks from Potato Land, Cajun Country, the Nawth Eeast, Californ-eye-Aye, Oh Canada, The Sunshine State, the southeast, and Utah. Then we've got large families (like the reunion) and couples. All age groups are represented, even with my miscalculations. I think if you're going to be around, in and out of the pool, or you're going to grab your lunch at the buffet, that it's ok to save a chair. I think the problem is when people go out at 6:00, put a towel on a chair and then go back to bed, go to breakfast, and then come to the pool and wonder why their chair is taken.

So yeah, short periods of time.....cool.
Leaving all your stuff so you can go to lunch, play bingo, and then shop in port....not cool.

Okay, let me set the record straight, and this comes from a NATIVE! Only the tourists go down in the French Quarter and show their "stuff" for beads. That was really started within the last 30 years, and is about the only sight that makes the evening news. All of the residents go to the parades (most with their families) and catch the beads thrown from the floats. On this cruise, however, to get some beads, you must show me your......

Good morning Cruisers

We sail in 1 week!

Well it is already Saturday here in IL and since I couldn't sleep I figured I might as well get it posted! I normally would do a daily countdown at this point but since Randy has been doing such a good job with that I'll turn it over to him.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

For you morning persons don't forget that you can head up to deck 9 and the drink station for your early morning coffee.

For those who aren't morning people or for morning people who just want to relax - have room service deliver you a fresh pot. Just hang the menu outside your door before you go to bed.

Also to get your day started in a Disney way. Ask for a wake-up call - Mickey will call to start your day for you!

Good morning!

I am looking forward to meeting the Cajun Cruisers. I lived in Metairie for a while when I was growing up. Those family oriented parades were the BEST! (Back in the 70s!) Where Y'At, Warren Family! Can't wait to meet you, and everybody else. I'm so glad my DDIL Dawn discovered this forum before we left! It's so much more fun to cruise with friends, even those newly-met.

As for the Mardi Gras beads, when I went next door to DS Chris' house to raid their stash, I was informed that the stash no longer existed. So I guess I'll have to scrounge around for some. That shouldn't be too difficult, as everyone in southeastern La. has an attic full!

To get you in the mood, here's a little bit of Cajun humor, featuring Boudreaux (pronounced Bood - row):

One day Boudreaux, his wife Clotile, and Boudreaux's friend, Pierre went to the city.
While Clotile went shopping, Boudreaux & Pierre decided to go check out one of them tall buildings.

Inside the building, Boudreaux & Pierre came to these big golden doors.

Boudreaux says,"Wonda wot dees doors lead to?".

So Boudreaux & Pierre stare at the doors for a few minutes until an old woman comes up to the doors. She pushes a button near the door, the doors open, she goes inside, & the doors close.

Boudreaux & Pierre watch as numbers above the door start to change from "1" to "2" to "3", then the numbers stop a while then change again from "3" to "2" to "1". Then the doors open and a beautiful young woman walks out!

Boudreaux tells Pierre, "Mais you saw dat!? Hurry up--lets go find Clotile so we can put her in dere!" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Enjoy!

No Karen you didn't scare me off in fact I have high hopes of meeting up with you and your family on the ship and having lunch etc.

I am missing the meet simply because of the time. We intend to go to one of the parks at DW and then turn in the car around 2:30 PM. Bearing that in mind we should be being processed when you guys are meeting. If I see any of you wearing a green Mickey head I plan to say hi and talk to you for a short while. Who knows if we hit it off we might even mutually choose to hang out together.

I just wish I had contected with some of you and was going to be sitting with you at the same table in the dining room. If anyone still wants to do this please let me know. We are a family of 3 with a five year old daughter.

As for the Mardi Gras Beads are concererned I have a whole ice chest full of them plus additional ones and I have never showed my stuff for them nor will I! Although most people think New Orleans is the home of Mardi Gras because their celebration is bigger it actully started in our country in Mobile, AL, my birth place. I lived there throughout my childhood and go down there for Mardi Gras every year (in fact I am even in a Mardi Gras organization). Some New Orleanians will tell you it began in Mobile and some won't. I discovered this when I went to the BCS national championship this year. I do love New Orleans though!

I have read that the water "is safe to drink right from the tap" in fact I might have read that on the board here. . .my question is. ..and I apologize if it has been posed before, but do any of you frequent cruisers bring along a santizier like a brita pitcher thingy? I picked a "slim line" pitcher up at our local Boscov's for $10. It does 40 oz at a time and is good for something like 2 months or 40 gallons.

In everyones professional opinion, is this something I should be packing along with the kitchen sink??

oh. no.. you asked for the professional opinion, now you're in trouble. :rotfl:

Guess what part of my job is? Maintaining water quality for the boilers we have at work. Shipboard is actually superior to the water I provide to the boilers. We have an undersink filtration system here at home for drinking water(which is also municipally treated, not from a well so it's not very mineral-heavy to begin with) and shipboard is equal or better. No experience with Brita specifically, so can't give you a better answer. You can bring it however, if you want to feel more secure.

All water onboard is produced from ocean water thru a process called reverse osmosis(check out Wikipedia's definition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_osmosis#Drinking_water_purification)) that is better than what most municipal tap water processes apply. There is also a water selection among the fountain choices up on the deck 9 drink station that I've been told has added filtering of some kind.

We personally usually only bring a wide mouth sport bottle that we pack with ice and top up with onboard water for excursions, making sure we wash it out very well between uses.

Thanks Mark, you have calmed my fears about the water . . . my DH (also Mark) also told me that I probably didn't need it, but told me to go ahead and get it if it made me feel better!

And it does not surprise me to be in trouble, . . . I am always in or causing trouble. . . in some good natured way. . . mind you. :dance3:  :dance3:

You should see our living room now. On one side are all the suitcases. On the other side are boxes of dishes, plates, flatware, and everything else you might store in the kitchen cabinets. Why - we're remodeling our kitchen.

Here is a photo of the old kitchen (everything ready to be ripped out):

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb105/sunturtle02/Oldkitchen.jpg

The new cabinets are being put in as we speak (or as I type). We chose maple wood with a medium-light stain. The countertops are going to be quartz.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Today's tip is for those of you who scrapbook. Each night you will get a navigator in your room showing what will be happening all around the ship the next day. Get out your pens and highlighters and mark up what you and your family want to do!

Yet do you really want a marked-up copy in your scrapbook? No need. Extra copies are available at guest services. This is also helpful if you are out and about on the ship and forgot your copy.

Also remember back on one of the early tips when we talked about the color coded luggage tags you get at the end of the voyage? Well they have different characters on them. There will be boxes of them at guest services that last day. A set of these make great scrapbook embellishments.

Watch out for those breezy cloudy days. You can still get sunburn and not even know you're burning. Most of the UV rays pass through the clouds.

But I'll do my best to keep the rain and thunderstorms away :wizard: Everyone wants a fun sail-away party.

Not feeling stressed though cause we're going to WDW!!!! I hope all of you have safe and uneventful travels and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on the boat!

I dread the flight so much :( We leave LAX at 8:35 and won't get into Orlando until like 4:20 with the 3 hour time difference!

WHAT? You don't get in until just after noon?

Ok, we'll wait for you. I'm going to email you our cell numbers to make sure you have them. :)

12:05 according to AA and you knew that.

Got your e-mail and just replied. I had you and Mike both in my phone but not your new number. All updated.

Yikes! No more snow! Though with all the groundings AA was doing we were developing a plan to rent a car and drive down if needed. If that was the case you wouldn't be waiting for us as we'd get there sometime on Saturday.

I realized I never did show our door signs as promised.

They were made for our May '06 cruise but are still in good shape so we'll be using them again.

Good morning everyone. Happy Monday!

I've used up all the tips of the day I had on file. So today if you don't mind I will just give some advice based on 10 past DCL cruises.

No matter how prepared you think you are double check your paperwork and id's before leaving home to make sure you have them. If you didn't fill out your paperwork online make sure you fill it out before getting to the port.
If you can get to the port early do it. It will give you time to look around, take pictures, see some of the characters, and you just might meet up with some of your fellow DISers.
If your kids are eager to use the pools have them dressed with their swimsuits under their clothes. You won't find the pools any emptier than you will on this first afternoon.
Make sure that you head to the safety drill in a timely manner. The quicker everyone gets checked in the quicker it will be over. Also it is a good idea to talk to your kids well before the drill to prepare them. Let them know there will be loud horns blowing.
If you want to be up close for the sail away party head to the Goofy pool on deck 9. A dance floor covers the pool and you will be right in the action. Want to watch instead of dance? Then head up to deck 10 for the party.
As we start to pull away check out the outside of the terminal. There will be some CM's with a nice little good bye for you.
If you are going to miss any dinners due to Palo or the decision to eat at Topsiders please be considerate of your serving team and let them know ahead of time.
Speaking of being considerate. Don't hog pool chairs. They are not to be saved. Sure you can put your towel and book down to go get a drink or to use the pool but doing that at 7 am and then showing back up at noon is a no no and your stuff should be removed.
Respect the adult only areas. If your child wants attention please don't go there to escape only to have the child keep coming and whining for you (this really happened on one cruise). It is not fair to the other adults there.
Remember this saying on Castaway Cay: Take only memories and photos and leave only footprints.
If you can't make it to the disembarkation talk you will find it on your TV that afternoon/evening.Most of all if you do nothing else please go into this whole thing with the feeling that you are going on a great vacation with family. There are things that can't be controlled like sometimes missing Castaway Cay.

Ok off my soap box.

Good Morning Crazy Cruisers!!! I would have posted sooner, but we have been a little busy. We arrived very safely on Saturday morning. There was a caravan of four families all driving together and that made the trip alot of fun. The miles passed very quickly trying to keep up with each other and meal breaks were much more relaxing having other adults to talk to and not feeling rushed to to back in the car. The weather is absolutly beautiful!!! We did MGM (or whatever its called) yesterday. It started to get a little hot in the afternoon so we were just there till about 3 then came back to resort and used the pool, BBQ'd with the friends and, sat around the fire pit roasting marshmallows! Well its off to Epcot my favorite park today. I am counting down the minutes till Saturday!

We also have that in the back of our heads. I'd hate it, but we'd get down there......somehow.

mary mentioned about checking your paperwork to see if it is all there. well, this is a true story.
my dsil and her husband and two grandchildren bookd a cruise. 4 day cruise with dcl. dsil did not check her paperwork to see when they were leaving, she thought she would just leave it up to the car company they had hired who would call them 8 hours before pick up. she thought she knew the date so was prepared to leave on the monday. car company forgot her so did not pick them up sat. night to take them to the airport. long story short, they missed the boat and had to fly to bahamas to meet it. :headache:
can you just imagine. should have directed her to the dis don't you think.

Welcome to Florida! :thumbsup2

If you get a chance, try to go back to ex-MGM in the evening to see the Fantasmic show. Its one of our favorite park closing shows.
