Modlin,

I keep looking at the weather for Alaska...my daughter and son in law leave in less then a month for Anchorage...I know it doesn't get as cold there as where you are though....I stocked them up on L L Bean super warm stuff for Christmas..

To everyone who is getting ready to leave..safe travels!!! We leave 6:30 am on Friday...yuck...

If we don't see you at the port somehow, I will see you on Sunday!!
I am sure all the warm stuff will help them acclimate to the winter in Anchorage. I take it they are getting stationed at Elmendorf? You will have to go visit them. Alaska is gorgeous in the summertime! Land of the midnight sun.

Good news! It warmed up to about 0 degrees today. That is warm for here! Pretty sad, isn't it. I cannot wait to feel that warm Caribbean sun...

Woohoo, we got a package from DCL today saying that our next cruise was just around the corner. Now we can start planning our June 1 cruise before we even start the January cruise. :)

Good luck everyone on getting to the port. We'll see you there! I expect we'll be the last ones on this board since we aren't leaving until Saturday morning.

Hi Guys,

We made it home OK as well, tho, I had to park in the road as I had to snowblow the driveway before we could get in. We had 14" of snow while we were gone (along with the cold).

Amy, if I could, I'd like one of the group pictures. I'll PM you with my address.

Hello Mike and Mindi,

We have returned. We pulled into the driveway in Birmingham about 8:00pm CST tonight after a 9 hour drive back from Orlando. We spent last night at Saratoga Springs and took Delaney to the Pirate and Princess Party (which, IMHO, is not as good as MNSSHP), however the fireworks were great and from about 10 to midnight there was hardly anyone in the MK. Our basket/DISbag made it here safe and sound. I still can't believe that we were able to get everything back into the car...

We had a great time and enjoyed meeting you (and Gixer and Bethipooh, etc...). Feel free to PM with your information.

I have a few thoughts on DCL overall in comparison to our trips with Princess, but I'll post those on the main page (synopsis: can't go wrong with either one... DCL shows are about the best I've seen, but the buffet and embarkation need help though...).

Enjoy the BBQ sauce...

Hi everyone,
we are home as well...tired though...I think I need a vacation to recover from the vacation!

We stayed at the Contemporary Saturday night...WOW....it was worth it. And the P and P party was fun, the rain was a bit of a bummer though. It was truly wierd to be walking through the MK and feel truly alone. It did seem empty after 10PM. It was nice to walk onto rides though.

It was fantastic to finally meet everyone, and I truly enjoyed the DIS meet. And of course at times it seemed I was stalking some of you!!! You guys could run, but you couldn't hide. :rotfl:

I plan on doing a trip report, the good and the bad...for the first time, I actually gave some poor ratings on the survey. Our room was horrible, something to do with the pipes...grrrrr..5 nights of no sleep for me...

I got the distag upon my return from Cast-a-way Cay and passed it on. Only about half of the people had received it at that point.

we had a great time and enjoyed bumping into people as the week went on. The Vow Renewal was fantastic and I am planning on doing a trip report in the next few days. I just down-loaded all the pictures from the cruise and have to figure out what to do from here. I just have one thing to ask......When does the ship stop rocking!!!! I still feel like I am moving even now. The seas were definitely moving more than when we travelled on the RCL Explorer in the Western Carib. I think being on the open Atlantic really makes a big difference.

Hope everyone maed it home safe and sound!!!!!

I am truly sorry to everyone that the DIS Tag seemed to fall apart..I know we sent it out shortly after the meet, with 3 of us signing it. I never saw it on any doors when we made our deliveries to the fishes...(it was fun delivering at midnight, I felt like santa) so I chalked it up to possibly being taken by kids, like they do with the magnets.

Glad to hear everyone is getting back home safe and sound. Brett, we got home at 6pm on Sat. and the ship is still rocking for me even now. Stacie, I saw your post on the other boards about your room, I whole heartedly agree, next time we will pick a mid cabin #. Beth, Michael told me about seeing you in line at guest services to complain about your room, how horrible!!!!!!!! Our deck 2 aft room doesn't sound much better, horrible rumbling noises and vibration Gentry had a really rough time of it, he kept screaming we're going to tip over and the engines are going to explode. For anyone on deck 7 on Sun night I apologize for Gentry's autistic meltdown in the hallway. It took him till Tues. afternoon to settle in to all the stimulation, Michael said people were opening their doors to see what all the comotion was, again I apologize.

What a great time we had at the bag exchange, thank you to all who put this board together, the bag exchange and everything else, alot of hard work went into it all and it showed, thank you all so much for your hard work!!!!! We so enjoyed meeting everyone and making new friends.

I tried so hard to behave when we were in line and not make a scene...We do have letters into DCL about the room problem. I hate to admit I did break down into tears once(blame it on lack of sleep) but I know at 2 am, Rick was less then pleasant at guest services..

I have pictures from the DIS meet, just have to get DH to download them to photobucket. Anyone have theirs ready yet?

Welcome home everyone. It was nice to meet you all, albeit briefly.

We had a great time. Once our youngest settled into the club, Neil and I got some time to ourselves which was strange because we haven't really had time together for a l-o-n-g time! By the end of the cruise we kept looking at the pager to see if it was broken as we hadn't been paged! LOL!!

Thanks to everyone for the fish extender goodies. The kids faces lit up when they saw the presents they had received. It was also great to explore the other parts of the ship (and get some exercise at the same time!)

I am sorry to hear that some of you had problems with your rooms. I hope you get a suitable reply from DCL.

Hey guys!!
There are some great trip reports going on over on the TR boards!!

I decided to not do one, given the fact them I am a bit ticked off at the moment with DCL.

That being said, we had a FANTASIC cruise despite the room issue(and transportation after). We enjoyed every aspect of it, and are hoping to cruise again, maybe when the new ships come out. Next summer we will be in Alaska visiting our DD who leaves in less then 2 weeks.

I had a great time at the DIS meet and loved our daily fish mail. Thank you to everyone who participated. I wish you could have seen the look on my son's face the first time he found something in it. Even DS(17) enjoyed checking it.

As soon as I get photobucket updated, I will post some pictures from the meet!

Well i have to say that this was the roughest cruise with disney that my hubby and I have taken. The open Atlantic seas were really rough! at one point i was even a little green. i felt really bad for my sister and brother who were just about sea sick every nite of the entire trip. But overall the cruise was alot of fun. i will post some pics in a day or two...ill even have some on my Myspace Page as well. But it feels so nice to be back in 80 degree weather. We arrove back here on the island of Guam thursday nite. I get to be lucky and go back to work on Sunday and then class on monday. but hope to hear from someone soon.

This was our 3rd cruise with Disney and our 10th all together and the past 2 with DCL has been the roughest we have ever experinced. I don't think they believe in using the stabalizers(sp?). We have sailed the Eastern Carribean at least 5 other times, it is my absolute favorite to sail because the seas are usually so calm. If you noticed on the ships info channel that the seas never went above moderate which isn't all that bad. We noticed that even when it said calm the ship was still rocking pretty hard. This is just one of many other reasons why we prefer RCL and NCL.

Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful trip. I had a blast and so did my little girl. I was wondering how many of you rebooked? I rebooked for the 24 Jan 09 western and and thinking about doing the back-to-back on the 31 eastern.

I didn't have any complaints on the trip at all and my room was awesome. We stayed at the Shades of Green resort on Walt Disney for another week before returning to the freexing white north. It is -20 outside. Yuck. I can't wait for break-up. Anyway, hope everyone had a great time!

Thanks Cheyrl:flower3: I really had a blast the past 15 mo. conversing with all of you. Right now I'm kicking myself in the butt for not rebooking onboard for another cruise. Unlike our govt., I have to keep to a budget. Now, thanks to the govt., the rebate check we get will go towards booking another cruise, although in a few years. We also didn't rebook on board. The kids keep asking to go again. Time to start saving the pennies as we won't be able to take time off school like that again. Its a scary thought having to pay twice as much for the same service to go during a school holiday time :-(

My postcard from Castaway Cay arrived today. We left two with guest services to mail the next time they docked at CC. The one to the UK arrived a week ago. At least it got here.

Hi everyone,

Well I did it. I booked again!

I have been casually looking around and noticed DU had some good group prices on the 8/15/09 sailing of the Magic. Not as good as we got on our 1/19/08 cruise, but good enough, so I booked it.  Going to try a cat 8 this time (on deck 7, forward). Don't know if we will miss that nice verandah, but we will find out.

Anyone any comments on a cat 8?

Kids don't know. Just wonder how long I can keep it a secret? I am hoping until we are at the port! We travel to FL often enough for our homes there that it is not a big deal for them, so it won't be too hard explaining a trip to Florida off. Just how long can I keep quiet about the cruise. I am soooo excited :yay: :yay: :yay:

hi there, my family is currently booked on a may '09 cruise on the magic. we had originally booked for jan '09, around the same date as the cruise you were on, also eastern caribbean. it was a perfect week b/c dd has off 2 days of school so we'd only have to take her out 3 days. but then i got cold feet b/c i was worried about rough seas, bad weather, and whether or not we'd even be able to swim. so i changed it.

fast forward a couple months...

my dstepdaughter graduates next june, 500+ miles away. so now i am torn on whether to switch what we have b/c now dd will be missing 5 days of school for the cruise + at least 3 for the graduation...just found out that the graduation is typically the day before school dismisses, so it is midweek! i think that is the craziest thing i have heard! most graduations around us are on the weekend, mid-week sure eliminates a lot of people who may have liked to have come but can't take off that much time from work. well anyhow, i started looking at alternative dates and actually zeroed in on the first week of july. no conflicts there, but the cost is staggering! so now i am thinking either going back to our original plan of january '09 or moving it to november '09.

so, i was hoping for feedback on how you all liked cruising in january. our dd will be almost 7 so swimming is an absolute must. are the seas rough? really cold weather? any help you all are willing to provide would be great...feel free to pm me if you want. thanks!:goodvibes

For us the weather was fine, warm, but not too warm. We had great days on the ship and in St Maarten and St Thomas. CC day was cool to start with, but warmed up in the afternoon (but we still had a great time). Swimming at CC was cool, but doable. Swimming on the ship was fine.

We took a sweater each in case it was cool and for evenings or in the theaters.

Seas were moderate. You could feel the motion, but not too excessive. It was nice being rocked to sleep :-)

We are doing our second cruise August 2009 - it should be an interesting comparison. BTW - we found a great price for that cruise (8/15/09) which was not as expensive as the rest of the 2009 summer cruises. That may be another alternative for you.

Wow...nice to see this thread pop back up. We went with a large group and all found the weather to be great all week, with the last stop at CC a little overcast, but still a nice way to end the week. The only day we found to be a little hard to take at sea was the night we pulled out...I think everyone just needed to adjust to being at sea. My TR is linked below my pictures so you can see some of the pictures from the week.

Thanks, I am sure we will have a great time (especially as its hurricane season!!!). But we will roll with whatever happens!

I see you popping up on other threads now and then! Where are you planning to go? For us, the US is an overseas adventure - there is so much of it for us to explore. We have done Europe enough for a while (we are from there)! I'd like to do Australia/NZ or the Far East. One place I would love to go is the Galapagos. Better enter that lottery, so I at least stand a chance of winning LOL!

Well, I told my husband for my 50th birthday, I would like to do the Mediteranian....on Disney of course, and I am certain by then the new ships will be up and running with no problems...we have 8 years to save!!;) And we just spent gobbs of money going to Russia 3 times to bring home Alex, so we are broke.....I think I need to win the lottery too.

We have Alaska next summer to see DD and DSinlaw, and after that, we are hoping to get in a quick cruise the summer of 2010 (maybe on RCL..gasp), then save to go on one of the new ships.

DS(college bound in the fall) is going to culinary school, and is seriously hoping to get hired on by Disney in some form, but mainly on one of the ships.
To him, that is his dream job. He was extremely impressed by the galley tour, and met one on one twice with one of the head chefs.

That sounds awesome. You will have to tell us what Alaska is like - I hear it is beautiful!

I wish your DS all the best - its great that he has a goal like that :-) - I know I didn't really know what I wanted to do at that age.

I know what I want to do at my age now....be the popcorn girl at the end of Main Street so I can see the parade everyday and watch the fireworks over the castle each night....now that is a dream!!!!!!!

I have a friend who lives in Alaska, and she loves it there. I am certain your daughter is going to do the same thing....they say there is something magical up there in the air.

Ever since my first visit to WDW I have wanted to work there...the joke in my family is to mean to work there..lol

I think DD is finally adjusting to Alaska, of course she arrived there in the middle of Feb, in the middle of a 4 day blizzard, and the first time driving had a fender bender( nothing serious, she slid into a stop sign:rotfl: ) She said it was shocking to still have snow into late April.

Now that its July she is liking it alot better and said its beautiful. They are going white water rafting the end of this month, and are going to Hawaii in Sept.

Lucky girl.....

You cold always be Cruella or Malicifent....they are some really cruel women....although you are too nice to be them. Remember, you are the one who made the green mickey head!!! Maybe you could be the fairy Godmother!!

Cheryl,
Thanks!!!! I needed some kind words, having a bit of a blue day, missing DD terribly. I miss DS too, but he has been on his own and in college since 18, so him only coming home occasionally is normal.

But DD, lived here, then in town, lunch with her during the week, and dinner and monopoly every Sunday. Sigh...

Thanks for letting me get that out.

So how is the new little man in the house? I bet he is a joy. How are the boys getting along? Good luck, I am a mom of 3 boys...lol I feel your pain.
When you get a chance you need to post a picture of them both!

This is Alex with my niece and her girl friends!!! He loved this.:rotfl:

He is doing well, and the two of have really begun to get along. Max loved Alex for the first 4 days, but then he tired of the attention not on him, and said to me...."I want to send him back, I don't like him anymore!!" Then we were in the pool a few weeks ago, and I asked Max what he thought of Alex now. "I like him" So I asked him if he was certain, because we were still in the 30 trial time, and we could send him back if we wanted to...:scared1: You should have seen his face...tell your kids that I am the evil one!!!

It must be hard not to have her near you, but that's what photos are for, and e-mail, and the telephone, and plane tickets to go there....I am rambling. ;)

Cheryl,

Oh my goodness, he is adorable!!!

What would you have done if Max wanted to send him back, the comment you made made me snort my cup of coffee...LOL

I am over my blues, all it took was cranky Lindsay to call this morning, and the blues left in an instant...I forgot how bad she was when she was tired and grumpy. Her Dh has been away for a few weeks, and she is missing him terribly.

Cheryl,

What a little heartbreaker you have there! Enjoy.

Bethipooh,

Glad you have got over your blues. I am sure your DD feels the same way about missing you and her life there. We moved 4500+ miles across the Atlantic to another country, so been there, done that! But just think, you get to explore another great part of this country with your DD when you meet up.

I shouldn't do this to myself, but I have been torturing my co-corkers all week....it has been an entire year since the cruise... this time last year I was floating in the middle of the Carribean, sipping rum drinks and thinking about 70's night!!!

Hope everyone is well.

Hi Guys!!!
What a difference a year makes...
Stephen is enjoying culinary school with the goal of being a chef on one of the new cruise ships, Michael is surviving middle school.

We are about to celebrate our 20th anniversary on Monday. We took a WDW trip in Dec and have another planned for next Dec.

Our Alaska trip has been put off until 2010...why you ask???

WE ARE GOING TO BE GRANDPARENTS!!!!

DD came home from Hawaii with her own souvenier. They will be coming home to visit with new baby in September. She is due in June. I will be going to see her after she has the baby to help her out for a little while.

I hope everyone is doing well!!

Well, we just got back from doing the same 7N Eastern as last year. Weather was even better this year as Castaway Cay was a gorgeous day. We even saw a few people we remembered from last year on board!

Now to book the next cruise. Hmmm.....

I say this with a heavy heart because we weren't there...but good for you!! I have to say, that was the only piece of the cruise that was a 3 out of 5...cooler weather on cast-a-way....otherwise it was 5/5!!!!

We want to go on the Mediter. cruise next.
