What internet provider are you with and do you ahve any problems with them? We are changing ours from telewest broadband because we have had a problem with getting on line for over 3 weeks now and after 6 calls and 2 new modems the problem still isn't sorted although they say it is working fine. We are going back to Bt for our phone line so has anyone any suggestions please we are thinking about sky as we have sky tv has anyone used it? Just to prove a point this is the second time i have tried to post this the stupid thing keeps throwing me off! :furious:

BT provide ours, but unfortunately they are not up to scratch here. We have had lots of incidents this year; all caused by their stupidity this year; where we have been left phoneless. Whilst you could argue that the less time spent on the net the better for me, it's not good that my parents who have a business to run go with a phone.

The main incident that occured went as follows:

BT came and fixed a phone cable. This was sort of minor to us; we let them get on with it. However, when they finished they didn't bury the cable afterwards, and so on the Monday a person came along with a hedgetrimmer and SNAP! The cable was cut. No Phone, No Internet. :(

I think after they did repair the cable they still didn't bury it again, but I can't remember how the rest happened. There were a lot of Businesses that were going to sue for what happened, but luckly they managed to get to work quickly!!

SO, if you want my advice go with the one with the best customer service departement!

Have a look here

We're with Telewest (Broadband) and have few, if any, problems :sunny:

DS, on the other hand, has Broadband through BT and has had problems with them for years! :confused3

Me too and when I did have problems a while ago they were very good at sorting them out (even though I did curse about them at the time! ;) )

I would just like to point out that yesterday I had NO INTERNET AT ALL!! After I posted about the whole "I hate BT" thing, the internet claps out on me! I missed all of the Halloween stuff that you guys talked about last night!!

BT said nothing about what happened.. So, as I said DON'T GO WITH BT!!!

We're with BT Openworld and find it a reliable service.

We're with f2s and have virtually no problems.

Sky I wouldn't touch with a bargepole at the moment. My brother has just changed his ISP over to them from f2s - after nearly a month he still has no Internet connection, Sky said there was a fault, then they said they'd located it and fixed it. Now they just ignore him or transfer him to a call centre in the Phillipines.

They're obviously inundated with new users as they are offering a really good package but it seems that they are currently unable to cope with the demand and their Customer Care is appalling.

I am with Demon.

We are a very heavy internet household where at least one PC, or laptop is connected to the net at one time. We also download an extreme amount (about 20 to 30G a week on average).

Demon rarely has drop outs. They have no d/l limit.

My only problem with them is sometimes the customer service can suck. But I have probably called it 3 or 4 times in 4 years so you can dismiss it a little.

we use AOL

had a couple of problems recently.....we're wireless and have 3 computers, bought a new DELL and it didn't agree with AOl for some reason.

Eventually got it sorted....and AOL have given us 2 free months and upgraded our line and service to 8 meg at no extra cost.

While their customer service is cumbersome ( to put it mildly ) they did resolve it after I made THEM ring ME instead. AOL hate to lose anyone and now we have 8 meg at less than £20 per month with no limits....we'll live with it!

We're with Talktalk for our broadband, line rental and all calls including international and its been excellent. I know they've had some bad press recently but our connection went without a hitch, when I screwed up the settings they were really helpful, and its only dropped out once in the past six months (touch wood, cross fingers, and a stroke of the lucky fake rabbit foot!) So its definately a 'no complaints' from us.

I am with Pipex, and to be honest, the service is flawless, but they are starting to crack down on high downloaders, so if your planning to "make the most" of your connection, maybe Pipex would be for you.
To be honest, due to the method BT is forced to use (by Ofcom) to charge ISPs, namely "capacity based charging", nearly all ISP's are cracking down on high downloaders, so all ISP's are going to be pretty similar. Personaly I would stick with NTL/Telewest.
Interesting to see someone class 20Gb a week as "extreme" though, I download that every day (so you can see why Pipex don't like me).

I don't really classify it as extreme, if at all. (teach me to post when tired) Its classed as heavy usage for a home user. The amount we do now is quite light to what it used to be. We have this issue of hard drive space the past month. (we lost 2 x 1TB in a week due to over heating). In about a month, we will back to where you are now. :)

Althought you are right most ISP are finding a way to try to stop heavy users. Those that have no d/l limit with throttle your speed at some time during the day. Or they will add a nice disclaimer in the very fine print where they have the right to cancel your contract, ban you until the end of the billing period or charge you more.

BT are terrible - our internet drops out all the time. It's not just us either - neighbours have the same problem. I called BT about it four weeks ago and have a "fault report" number but so far I've heard nothing - when I call I get told they're "experiencing a high volume of reports" and that I will be "dealt with ASAP". :confused3

Hi which demon product are you with, I'm currently looking to move from Zen as I'm paying £29.99 / Month but only getting 50gb transfer.

The demon site mentions a Fair Use Policy which restricts speed, are your subject to this and has it ever kicked in for you.

I am on Demon Home Office 8000 and pay £24.99. If you don't want a static IP then Home 8000 is pretty much identical at £19.99.

We do know our line speeds drop between 10pm and 6am on Fridays, Saturdays and the day before a bank holiday (so sunday nights) but not by substantional amount. We are talking we might go from a 7Mps speed to a 2Mps.

Zen's limit was starting to annoy me, luckily I have a monthly contract with them.
