I read up in the Daily Mail (at which I thought it was a big lie, but I found on the bank of england website about it so it is definitely true now) that they are replacing the person on the face on the £20 note. It is being changed from Sir Edward Elgar to Adam Smith.

I am pleased with the change as I have no idea who Sir Edward Elgar is, but I do know who Adam Smith is. If you are an economist like me, you'll know that Adam Smith is like a God to economists. He is the "Founding Father" of Economics, so to speak, and a lot of works are based from his theories.

Forgive me for my ignorance of Edward Elgar, but I am really glad that Adam Smith is the one replacing him instead of someone I have no idea about. :woohoo:

I saw this on the Scottish news last night. Adam Smith will be the first Scot to appear on an English note. He already appears on the Bank of Scotland £50 notes.

By the way, Elgar was a VERY famous composer. He wrote the Pomp and Circumstance marches which I'm sure you'd know if you heard them.

I heard them 5 seconds ago; they seem familiar to me. I am having a Deja Vu moment just listening to them.. :goodvibes

I wonder where I could have heard it.. :confused3

Hmmm, so this has been on the news & in the paper. Shame nobody thinks to tell the people who work in banks! We never get to know this sort of stuff until a customer ask's why so & so is happening. We could switch from Sterling to any currency in the world and I guarantee you bank staff would be the last to know!

Oh it's easy. You just photocopy one then use really good quality coloured pencils to shade them in. I'm a teacher so I use it as an early finishers' task. If any kids are done with their work, they get busy on their teacher's fake money. It's the only way I know to make teaching truly profitable :rotfl2:

He also wrote the music to Land of Hope and Glory (Arthur C. Benson wrote the words), to compliment the voice of my Great, Great, Great (another great?) Aunt, Dame Clara Butt. For those of you who don't know her, she's at Warwick Castle with the Prince of Wales (the tall one - 6' 2" in her stockinged feet).
